2021 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 236TH Toy Hauler Travel Trailer
Though this model is obviously HEAVILY influenced by pre-existing models like the Grey Wolf 22RR Toy Hauler Travel Trailer and Wildwood FSX 210RT model with a similar layout it still managed to feel "uniquely Jayco."
I can't exactly put my finger on it, but there's something SUPER .... "beefy" about this model. In typical Jayco fashion they've built a layout similar to what you've seen before in the marketplace, but a little bit heavier with some bulkier construction to show for it.
They NAILED the execution of this layout thankfully! A few features that really stuck out to me were the steps for the option ramp patio which seriously improves the "flow" of the floor plan when the patio is in play & something I've not seen other builders in this class/price point match.
Additionally, the decision to use mechanically folding sofa/bench/beds in the rear seating/garage area instead of the free-floating-cushions often used by most suppliers took this one over the top for me! The extra 3" of interior height also might make or break the difference when loading taller toys!
Then you remember it has all those Jayco special qualities like Goodyear tires, an UNMATCHED 2+3 year warranty, & plywood instead of OSB in the roof/floor construction & I think you've got something that not only fits SAFELY and comfortably within the realm of half-ton towability but also is poised to hold up long term!

If someone(anyone) told me that you were lazy, I wouldn't believe it. I know myself. 2 videos(on average) per day! That's the Most I've ever seen! Before that was maybe 1 per day. Also Informative, because not Everyone has a high level of R.V.'s. Good job. Thanks.
Another good vid. We bought the FR 190RTX thinking the setup was better. Took it out one weekend and decided to trade it back. The big windows on the 190 were great. But they would cook you in warmer weather. Unless you were plugged in. We dry camp or boondock. Which leads us say the new 12v fridges are big, but not for the lone campers like us. Too difficult to keep a charge on the battery. We hate to run any generator. Also the 190 had very little air flow because windows are solid glass.
Soooooo, we traded for this Jayco. Definitely better built. More screen window area. We got the LP fridge, a must if you boondock.
Yeh it cost us a little penalty, but we feel for long term it's worth the hassle.

I would agree on the towel hooks, but I feel that would be a buyer add-on with command strips. I could also see a smaller cabinet above the toilet for some storage as it looked like a mirror and not a medicine cabinet.
They hang on the shower, there is a curved bar that allows you to hang, but yes agreed.
A few “Drunken Octopus” hooks would be great!
Sometimes it doesn't need much. Just needs SOMETHING

I have never been a fan of or needed a toy hauler but this one is something I think I would really like.
There's definitely something about this one. It's definitely technically a toy hauler... but... it also doesn't FEEL like a toy hauler.
I could see myself and my wife with something like this. Room for the bikes. Sleeping space for the kiddo perhaps. Meanwhile during the day we just have an awesome living space
This is a great toy hauler! It comes with tons of features that are appealing to most people looking for a smaller toy hauler and actually has a pretty plush feel to it for what it is. I looked at it pretty seriously myself before going with something that was just a little bit lighter and had a floor plan that was a little more appealing to me. But you cannot go wrong with a Jayco.

At least they had the sense to put the walk in door in the front of the coach so you can get in with the toys loaded. Nice rig
It's a smart layout. Again, really it's Jayco taking a stab at something Cherokee has been building for years -- but I think they did a good job putting their on "flavor" into the sauce.

Wow this is a great trailer. I have been looking at rigs for full timing in the futre and had settled on a toy hauler since you can customize it so much easier than a fitted out trailer. This one is awesome! I love the kychen, underbed storage and all the other storage too. All this in a lighterweight hauler! Your reviews are great, so much info and love the garage-mahal term. :)

I like this...I'm in Louisiana but want to go to Michigan to get this, but I've no truck to tow it back.
Wow! Love it. Getting really close! Still considering all sorts of RVs but a smaller trailer likely makes the most sense for us but I've still pined for a toy hauler. The Outback is cool but still pretty big and more $$$. I really want to be able to hold a couple of kayaks and bikes. Looks like plenty of room here. May have to take a ride out to Michigan one of these days. The only think I wish it had was the 10 cu ft DC fridge but I guess you can't have the world. Since I'm new to this, how hard it is to lower and raise the ramp for loading/unloading? A hand crank or power crank? Or counter-balanced somehow like spring load cables? Keep'em coming!

Spring assisted. You still have to put in some effort, but it's not like going to the gym
Josh, I'm curious if my two adult sized sons could sleep comfortably on those separate rear benches as they wouldn't like sharing a bed. They're both pushing 6 feet.
Nice vids...straight forward and to the point with just enough flair. Would be great to some specific internal dimensions (that you actually measured) of the garage or better yet an example of loaded bikes with their dimensions. For those of us with multiple bike setups, we are always trying to figure out if we can get them strapped in to those fixed anchors. Having a couple demo dirt bikes with bar and wheel base #s included would make it easy to estimate fit (and you would be one of the only dealers that goes through this extra step....just a thought. Thanks!

Being a jayco owner I really want to love this one, I’m stuck though. I really like the small toy hauler idea and layout. If it was just a tad longer and slightly more storage. Oh and cabinet doors on all the cabinets and not nets on some. But I also understand it’s the SLX so it’s not going to have it all. Great video and jayco 👍
They make a slightly longer version as well like a 26RR Grey Wolf too. Just hasn't landed yet.
I really like this trailer. I agree that it needs a towel hanger in the bathroom. I suggest one on the door, so that some shelving can go in the corner above the toilet for more storage.

No *factory* rear curtain swap options. Aftermarket accessories could offer about anything though
Single guy currently full timing in a smaller class C. Definitely looking to move to something like this. I love the class C but I lose my house when it needs maintenance on the road.
Benefits both ways, but personally I am very, very much in the camp of the towable RV sector for my personal preferences for similar reasons.
How do you keep the cold air in? There's no hard door on the back once you flip the deck down.

I really like how the sofas do not touch when they are down into a bed, that way our 2 teens can each have their own bed when we are at races. Do u think this could fit 4 dirtbikes? It looks like it might be a bit small for that. We love our Jayco 28.5 bhok but we can't keep triple towing!
I suspect you could probably 4 four dirt bikes in here, but I've never tried anything like it.

I've had a few people ask similar things about a Grey Wolf vs. Wolf Pack. While not impossible I think the sizing difference between this and an Octane explain why you don't see Happi Jac beds in this segment.
That 222 is also significantly taller inside which gives it the room for that happi jac bed system to be a little more function. In a smaller ceiling camper like this it would be constantly reducing your loading and walking height (which is why these "Crossover camper/toy haulers" don't usually have that feature)
@@JoshtheRVNerdI spoke with a jayco rep and he claimed the same. So I then spoke with Nick at Wildwood FSX concerning the 190RT toy hauler. They at Wildwood are considering putting in a single flip up/down bunk in the back. Not going to hold my breath on it actually being put into production but it might be an option for people that don't need all the extra weight, height and width. Nick was very understanding and took time to brainstorm ideas. Wishful thinking for 2021. Thanks for the response, as the almost perfect camper hunt continues.

I think you should order in a 500 w solar panel system with lithium batteries (battle born) to give customers a idea of what they can create for their off grid/off road adventures.
We've done just about anything and everything... but it's so individualized and custom. It almost creates as many questions as it answers... maybe moreso.

Residential refrigerators and off grid camping are oxymorons, unless you run a generator all day long? A 2 way fridge or a 12 volt fridge with 2 batteries and solar panels are the only option?

I do agree it's not the ideal setup for a toy hauler. I see why they did it in this one, though. There's not really good places for cabinet venting in this model.
They kept the floor vents out of the garage thankfully & have them in a direct-line track to make sure they're effective at least.
as you get older you don’t need all the toys but you do need a good bed it would be good if you take the grandkids and their bikes

I have a 210 RT so far so good. I haul a bike that weighs 972 lbs give or take.

If my scrawny computer nerd chicken arms can do it, then I feel confidently nearly anyone can. It has a spring assist so you're never really heaving weight like some wacked out episode of the world's strongest man
I’m a Jayco fane and I know it’s a lower Escalon than the full Jayflight. But not putting a medicine cabinet is just not right. Appreciate you Josh. Tell Jayco to charge another $200 and put the medicine cabinet.
Funny you mention it -- I always wince a bit at the idea of a mirror-only. Even a less expensive plastic medicine cabinet would be something there...
Wildwood does something like that in Xlites. It's not fancy, but it looks the part and keeps your pill bottles & bandages organized.

Love, love, love these smaller toy haulers. Wife and I want one, but we're having a bit of an issue that maybe you, a far superior RV person, could answer. What is the smallest toy hauler available that is (a) tandem axle, and (b) has that electronic bed/bench thing in the rear? It's just the wife, me, and the little 1 year old so it doesn't have to be "all the craziness."

Question. Deck deployed, chairs in position, cup holders occupied and then mother nature tosses in a massive downpour. Are the materials used for the deck and deck attachment areas designed to be able to handle some "heavy moisture"?
Jayco actually uses azdel on the drive-on layering of their ramp doors. I should've talked about that.
Ideally you definitely want to get it closed ASAP. But if you got hit by a freak downpour then close it up and towel it down. You'll be fine.
Do you know how tall the garage door I know you said it was 6 foot nine inside, my side-by-side is 78 inches.
You typically need to account for about 6 inches from the ceiling down to the garage door opening. But that’s only a general rule of thumb. Our team is always happy to hard measure anything to verify for you at 800256-5196
just curious, im not familiar with toy haulers, but i am liking the drop down patio idea, BUT lets say i wanted to load a quad or golf cart how do i lower the ramp? again not familiar and this is probably obvious to most
Those cables holding it up? There's just pins securing those cables to the ramp deck. So you fold the ramp gates out of the way, lower the ramp, and load up!

I think if this were a larger class hauler, then you'd see those things. I would agree they're good features for any hauler though

This is the best camper I've ever seen . How do you get on the roof to do a roof inspection ? Is it a walkable roof.
Like most things in this class you’ll need a separate ladder to get to the walkable roofing

Medicine cabinet in bathroom and a fold out/flip out retractable side mount roof ladder are 2 things on the inside I would add. Other than that maybe my truck in front of it.

Thanks for the videos, Question I have 2022 Colorado 3.6, 7000 lbs tow capacity. Curb weight for the truck is 4520 lbs. It is only my wife and I in the truck pulling a 950lbs motorcycle. Is this a good fit ? Thanks for your help.

@@martindavies4791 Partially due to size. It’s a little bit large for medium size pick up. It will assert its presence against you on the road.
But also weight. The GVW of this trailer is greater than your maximum tow capacity so it’s possible you could be overloaded. Even if not, then you’re going to be extremely close to your max. It feels like burning the candle at both ends and sweating bullets while doing it
What is the current caring capacity of the solar prep?
I apologize in advance because I’m still very much and have us in terms of solar things. So I can do to keep up with all the trailer things and clerical responsibilities that I have on a daily basis
From the factory you can get 100 white package. I will leave you can add a second hundred white panel. Beyond that I do not know what the gauges of wiring can support
Not many 1/2 tons can do that tongue weight plus cargo plus passengers . Most payloads for 1/2 tons is in the 1400-1800 lbs range .
would a 3/4 ton do the job easily?
@@eirika2001 -- Frankly, I wouldn't tow w/ a 1/2 ton; MINIMUM 3/4 ton, IMO.

Remember it's a toy hauler designed to have a load behind the axles which creates a cantilever effect. Factor in WDH'ing and you're solidly within ½ ton capabilities.
There's more to all of this than just a few specs on a spreadsheet :)

The upholstery looks like it was stitched by the blind. The refrigerator is smaller than a yeti. And the only way you can see a flat screen is if your sitting in the sink. They don’t view from the side worth a darn. Just wait till you bash your skull on the over hanging cabinet Above the bed. Nice trailer.

We toured this one and really liked it. Seems very well made. It’s small and if it was just a little bit bigger would like it better. Concerned how difficult it will be to put our motorcycle in it. Really like the sturdiness of it.
Usually loading and writing up the ramp is not the trick on these. It’s a little tricky going backwards down the ramp. The front brake is your friend

It is not. Just a basic-level camper that doesn’t have access to higher end features like that
No drop down queen in the garage? Bummer. Is there anything under 30’ that has a ramp/patio with a drop queen?
It may not be as obvious on camera but this is a smaller size that doesn't quite fit that feature. It's not impossible to fit a power drop bed, but you couldn't clearly walk under it
That's one of those big differences between something like this which is a normal camper with a ramp vs. a true toy hauler

Jayco actually uses azdel on their ramp doors, but this is a conventionally constructed camper -- not an azdel laminated model. They do not offer this layout in an azdel laminated style model

I’ve never seen those available on anything except extra tall and wide toy hauler doors. I don’t believe a supplier is currently creating anything for smaller models like this

Heated: No. Not on these "SLX" models.

I hardly ever see a toy hauler layout that you don't have unload the motorcycles to use the camper ?
You need to usually find a longer length to have the room for it. Private garage models are popular, but they HAVE to be longer/heavier/more expensive. Small campers like this have an "open garage" which is great for length/weight/cost, but means everything kind of overlaps.
