Another thing you can do if you have a dust issue is just go around the edges with a vacuum to suck out any loose dust. You don't even need to touch your PS5 if your vacuum really sucks it will pull that edge dust right out.
It won't touch the caked dust, that's why I get it serviced properly by a technician every year or 2 now - especially as mine is a day 1, LOTS of screws and I'm lazy 😂
I had this issue and my PS5 disc version would shut off with no warning after about 20-30 minutes of playing any PS5 game. Each time it shut off, I had to unplug and replug the power cord to get it to turn back on. I initially did a basic cleaning of the fan and the area around it and was still having issues. I decided i would purchase a small vacuum cleaner and really get in every corner and crevice of the console before sending it in for repair after a few months of only playing PS4 games. After taking it almost completely apart i shined a flashlight inside of the console and toward the direction of the disc drive i could see a black plate/grate that was pretty far inside and had air holes that were completely covered in dust. My vacuum couldn't fit deep enough into the console so i used a toothbrush to loosen the dirt on the grate and then used my computer power duster to clear all the dust out. After putting the console back together I've been gaming for hours at a time and haven't had a single issue with it shutting off with PS5 or PS4 games; as of today that was a month ago!
@@LIKKLEBENWILLY happy to hear it, I’m pretty sure this is the fix for this issue. Whatever that grate is inside the console, it’s imperative to keep it clean and free from dust.

New update!! My ps5 kept doing this and I'd tried absolutely every hint that was in all these videos. I CAN CONFIRM that this works! I was trying to play the new Witcher 3 update and couldnt go 20 minutes before it shut down. I had already popped the cover and blown the dust out. Then I got to thinking about these dark plates ... I was gonna have to wait a couple days for them to come from Amazon and was gonna cost £40 so I was a bit wary.. so I popped the cover off and exposed the vents and just turned it on and started playing. Guess what? Not one crash!! In fact what was weird was while the cover was off the fans actually pushed this ball of dust out of the hole in the middle of the ps5! So yeah. If you wanna check this works before buying the plates. Just use your ps5 without the original plates on and see what happens!
@@aidendorion5694 I just took the regular plates off, let the ps run with no plates. Theres a nice cool breeze coming out of it now and it doesn't feel anywhere near as hot. And most importantly has not crashed on a regular basis. You yeah. Works.
My PS5 produced the first 6 months, overheats even on a cooling station, half off the laminated desk, plugged directly into wall outlet, yet only on the new MW2, DMZ and Multiplayer. I’m guessing a good air can clean job, and if that doesn’t work imma lay it sideways and also buy them plates. Great multi-informative video.
@andre Coles I just had this same issue happen to me 2 days ago. I've tried everything i've seen online and nothing has worked. I load up Warzone 2 and after about 10 seconds of being on the home screen my ps5 turns off. Could it just be a bug with the game? every other feature and game works perfectly fine. so annoying, idk what to do!
I had this issue while playing big ps5 games. I used an air can on the fans and I has a load of dust caked onto the power supply righer where the lower dust catcher is. Highly recommend checking the bottom dust catcher and making sure non of the holes on the power supply are covered. It's been about 3 days now and I haven't had an issue. Knock on wood it doesn't happen again
Yeah I had the original when it first came out over and it never ever over heated since I got this new one I can tell the difference thank you for this
If you have a vertical stand, the heat blocks the air of the bottom of the console. I took the stand off and it hasn’t shut off since. I hope this helps 😊
Ive been having a similar issue recently whilst playing battlefield was wondering if it was because i had it vertical on stand on carpet, and ive tecently cleaned out the fans too

Yea that means the ps5 is probably corrupted and you might need a new one or try to get it fix idk that sucks tho smh thank god I never had any problems with my ps5
I just ordered the black darkplates and the cool black skin to go with it. Thank you for the great video sir, I have set my unit flat out more in the open for air flow and lifted the cover for now and it's been playing for nearly two and a half hours without shutting off. Seems better air flow for the fan is key. Been using a couple ice packs too, hopefully they're not needed with the better airflow. We'll find out...
This happened to my PS5 Slim Disc. Bought it from Target to play Spider-man 2. It would constantly turn off after booting up a game. Tried every solution you could find on the internet. Couldn't find anyone else having the same problem as me. In the end, I went back to Target told them my story and thankfully they took my word and swapped it for a new one. The new PS5 was much better. It was the first one that was defective,
Cleaning consoles and things is a good idea but the main reason these shut down is when it’s super hot weather. It’s just bad design, 40 degree heat outside and it will shut down unless you do something external to cool it.
Mine was also doing this! I cleaned out the fan and vacuumed inside the hole, it still shut down after and then I thought I'd try laying the console horizontally- hasn't overheated since! My theory is the liquid metal fighting against gravity and ending up on the bottom half of the chip so it's not covered. Consoles in general have never had a great track record when stood vertically, ps2 was notorious for it! Also I don't recommend blowing canned air into the fan while it's still in the console, it will just force dust deeper inside making it worse long term. Unplug the fan and take it outside, blast the blades with the air but don't blast it into your console !
So I actually found a fix for my personal PS5 and the solution sounds crazy but its more technical than it sounds. I lay my PS5 flat now. I used to always have it standing up and ever since I changed it, it's been working with no shut offs. It has to do with the heat sync and liquid metal inside the PS5. Somehow laying it down has helped me eliminate the problem completely
The power strip is used to protect your devices from power surges! Thank you for telling my friend not to plug his ps5 into a power strip now they have to save money to buy a new ps5! Just so everyone else knows power strips do not cause problems with overheating if a cord you plug in is overheating then the cord should be replaced. A power supply should not cause your ps5 to over heat unless there is something wrong with the cord or the ps5.. I hope people learn from my friends mistake and do not listen to this guy! Also the black panels do not reduce heat in the ps5 it has already been tested!
Just copped a ps5 2 days ago & I’ve already had more than 7 shutoffs + green screen of death. To think paying $500 retail & it doesn’t operate correctly. Sony really scammed us.
If your PlayStation 5 is overheating you need to clean the PlayStation it’s doesn’t matter what version rather it was the day, one release or a current release if dust gets inside of your system, it will cause it to overheat reasons why it shuts off is avoid major damage to your PlayStation
If y’all still having this problem with overheating your ps5 needs more ventilation. Lay it down and take the front panel off especially if you have the older model of the ps5 it might not be the most aesthetically pleasing but it works trust me the more airflow you have the more unlikely it would overheat and turn off.
@@nothinghere6434They do this out of the box. A dusty console will make it worse, but they crash at a room temp of about 74 degrees Fahrenheit even when clean. I've tested on 4 different ps5s now and if there isn't cold air blowing on the console and the room is around 74 degrees it'll overheat and crash. No amount of cleaning can change the fact that the original PS5 heat sink does not properly disperse heat.

They are silent because they know that they made a mistake, chief architect Mark Cerny was overzealous with his ambitions. PS5 has a too far stretched OC and frequencies, that is where the problem resides... along with some software bugs.
yesterday i just bought my first ps5 and 30 minutes after starting it up i was in middle of playing a game and the ps5 just completely shut off. i tried for over 2 hours trying to get it to turn back on it was on top of a stand nothing blacking air flow or anything. i did everything. i tried a different power cord, tried putting a game cd in, unplugged it for an hour.. i watched video after video i tried everything. this morning i plugged it back in still nothing. went to wal mart and exchange it and got the new ps5 home had a little scare i plugged it in and it took about 2 minutes for me to get it to power on but after that so far no issues. played it for over 2 hours so far so good.
I noticed it only happens during intensive games. I could play MW2 multiplayer all day long but the moment I jump on Warzone it crashes after 3-4 games. I also had the same issue with Elden Ring (Another very intensive game), all in all, it's extremely frustrating. Especially deep into a Warzone match
I used that duster you was talking about on my ps5 to clean all the dust inside surprisingly it worked for half a game of Call Of Duty but the fan was super loud then and it just shut off im lost for words
i suffer from the same I've done everything I've seen. with the exception of getting the panels mentioned in the video. was thinking about just playing without the top/front panel off. super frustrating
Which models are suffering from these issues? My PS5 is a CFI-11XX series. I haven't updated the firmware as it's still on firmware 4.50 and I haven't been able to buy PS5 games but played lots of PS4 disc games and never had any issues yet.
I have tried a few things people have recommended to no avail, but I am skeptical of this fix. It makes sense in theory, but mine will randomly shutoff even when it is in rest mode. I have a hard time believing that it's overheating in rest mode. Just my thoughts but it certainly is driving me nuts though, and it does it basically every single day lately
It’s gonna get worse dude don’t ever use rest mode my console just broke because I neglected it putting it on safe mode a bunch don’t do it these things arent built to last nothing is so your just shortening the life of it. That and cleaning it that is.
Mine not long ago, flashed the overheating message while I was playing Spider-Man 2, all I did was push ok and the game resumed; my PS5 never shut off though. So I shut it down to give it a very long rest.
@@vqvq5559 yes I had to take the console completely apart. Blow out every heatsink and the power vents as well as clean fans. So far no crashes have been on for bout an hour and a half.
To be honest, using a can of compressed air on the vents of the PS5 while the console is still screwed together really only redirects most of the dust to stick to the motherboard. Trust me, I know this from experience. The best way to handle dust near the vents, specifically dust in the heatsink, is to disassemble the entire console very slowly and carefully and then use the compressed air in the heatsink and maybe the fan too if you want to. Typically, I just use a little brush I own on my fan.
@@gurungz111 yeah :) it had a lot of dust inside the fan, so I cleaned it. And then after turning on the PS5, I rebuilt the database and cleared the software cache, now the PS5 is super fast and silent. 😃✌👍 Thanks
Same issue here and I’ve tried everything!!! The only things I haven’t tried is opened everything and cleaning the power supply that will be my last option as it’s a major hassle. This cover is a great idea but it’s $70 so I checked Amazon and found a back fan option with good enough reviews for $30. I will see either way it does seem is a heating issue with PS5 games as those pull more power and are way more demanding. PS4 games work fine and also some PS5 games work fine too for me like GTA and GT7 on disc, Death Stranding Director's Cut works fine too but MK1, Horizon are BOOM turns off automatically after I’ve timed it 40mins-1hr tops. Don't know if it's because most of games are digital but tbh that shouldn't matter anyway as GT7 even though it's my only disc and works fine no hard unplug crashes...it's still a massive demanding game. So yes these covers will be my next option if the back fan doesn’t keep my PS5 from turning off I’ll update this if it works for me. Edit: So get this it was the fan lmao I took off the plate where the fan is and played without it and it worked just fine. I need to get these plates because the back fan was a waste of money. For now I gotta play without one plate and so for others who are going thru this please try this…remove the plate where the fan is and see if it stays on for over 40mins. Mines went on and on for hours no problem. So yup these plates with venting openings was the answer major THANKS !!!
Had this issue when I play my career on 2k(grinding new builds) and now playing eldin rings it does it more frequently. Clean the fan and everything. What gives man
Its normal, also that why I not gonna buy Ps5... This is big problem because all new Ps5 series have overheat problems... 3 days back when I go in store where they selling consoles etc they have 6 ps5 and also 3 ps5 behind cash register all 3 consoles have overheat problems and those are new versions or model... In full store they only have 1 xbox console and 0 returns... Xbox s and x better console for this generation also those consoles dont have overheat problems...

I’ve owned a PS5 since launch and I’ve started to keep in mind how the PS5 reacts. First off the majority of PS5 games shut off after playing for 15-30mins especially fortnite like literally it’s not playable… but something like GTA V and NBA 2K22 on PS5 takes like 3-4 hours to shut off. And Second this NEVER EVER happens on PS4 games well there was this one time where I was playing red dead and it froze and shut off. So here’s the weird part in order for the PS5 to not shut off …your room or wherever your PS5 is has to be cold. like as for me I leave my window open in my room and it gets cold asf and I haven’t faced that problem since and also make sure to open the white side plates and remove the dust around the area of the fan every 3-4 months it depends on how much you game it tbh…It shuts off CONSTANTLY in the summer heat so around that time PS5 games become very unplayable for me, I hope this helps someone

I found out other day my new fan wasn't turning I had to go buy small washers and I added 2 each one for behind the fan so it's lifted up some plus one behind the screws and now the fan is working again. The console gets hot but I haven't had it say overheating or shutting down and I played 2k23 for few hours today and watched a movie and nothing happened.

That's the problem though. Ps5 shares same dodgy cooling design as ps4. Both consoles work better in horizontal and are prone to over heating in vertical

So buying the dark plates actually works?

Wow Sounds like a lot of people got defective ps5 rip
This happened to my PS5 Slim Disc. Bought it from Target to play Spider-man 2. It would constantly turn off after booting up a game. Tried every solution you could find on the internet. Couldn't find anyone else having the same problem as me. In the end, I went back to Target told them my story and thankfully they took my word and swapped it for a new one. The new PS5 was much better. It was the first one that was defective,
the quality of this video is ridiculous🔥
Got my PS5 first day release I use it everyday even to watch my TV and this just started happening about a month ago thanks so much for the info💥💥💥💯
Did This fixes your problem?
Same situation here! Can't play for longer than about half an hour before it shuts down on me
I have the same issue both my power cord and HDMI cord are hot when it randomly shuts down
So I actually found a fix for my personal PS5 and the solution sounds crazy but its more technical than it sounds. I lay my PS5 flat now. I used to always have it standing up and ever since I changed it, it's been working with no shut offs. It has to do with the heat sync and liquid metal inside the PS5. Somehow laying it down has helped me eliminate the problem completely
@@sleepykhani lol I'll give a try bud thanks for the"technical"advice..
Just had for 2 days and it wanted to shut down 😢
If your PlayStation 5 is overheating you need to clean the PlayStation it’s doesn’t matter what version rather it was the day, one release or a current release if dust gets inside of your system, it will cause it to overheat reasons why it shuts off is avoid major damage to your PlayStation
Ps4 for 8 years never had this problem . Ps5 after 1 month was already "over heating" .
Yooo lmao @ 0:42 gave me PTSD😂 like “not my phone now!”
I think my PS5 is starting to have this issue. I can’t even play MXGP 2020 properly because it shuts down in the 1st race.
If y’all still having this problem with overheating your ps5 needs more ventilation. Lay it down and take the front panel off especially if you have the older model of the ps5 it might not be the most aesthetically pleasing but it works trust me the more airflow you have the more unlikely it would overheat and turn off.
wym front panel? like the little grills inbetween the white panels and black main piece?

Better tip: clean your console.
@@nothinghere6434it doesn’t work I bought an air cam online and a os5 cleaning utensil got all the dust out and it didn’t do jack
I'm convinced it's to do with the liquid metal shifting and causing hot spots on the chip.
clean it and take the fan out if it still does it your heatsink is shot two options take to playstation and let them fix it or you have to buy a new one

That's the problem though. Ps5 shares same dodgy cooling design as ps4. Both consoles work better in horizontal and are prone to over heating in vertical
Yeah but the original design was to inhibit dust. With the intake directly over the fan intake it will suck in dust a lot faster. So it’s a double edged sword. I’ve had to put a fan on mine.
