Brilliant writing 😂 this scene does a great job highlighting the casualness of overlooking the hard labor of housewives while not falling for the easy trope of making the husbands villains. They are unable to see their wives’ perspectives because of their own pressures, responsibilities, issues, etc. The only way they see where they’re coming from is by being challenged in this light hearted dinner game. This scene also adds to the growing tension and disdain the main husband has for the wife. Great job capturing the nuance. Love it.

I love this because it really does show that there are a lot of things that go into the day today that are one person's responsibility the other person doesn't understand. She makes these beautiful napkin designs every party because that's her task that's how they divided labor but because he's never try to help her he doesn't understand what goes into it. It does. I love seeing things like this from the other side. I can see what goes into the parts I'm not too much involved in, and I can see our strengths. 😊

Women used to do obviously helpful stuff like cooking, sewing, knitting, and other little but necessary things, but in the early to mid 1900s, innovations and technologies made all of that WAY easier (such as refrigerators, electric ovens and other tools, and larger varieties of ready-to-use foods at the grocers). With all of their old responsibilities made so much easier, women began spending their free time on trivial stuff, such as folding napkin swans for dinner parties, in order to feel useful. Their husbands noticed that their wives were spending o much time doing useless stuff and instead of appreciating it (and the other remaining traditional housework), they began seeing their wives as materialistic and vain, and started losing respect for them. The entire 20th century was a very chaotic time for marriage relations.
@@justaway_of_the_samuraiand on the flip side, men started to struggle to pull in enough money to support a household and started paying put a whole lot of time into useless hobbies (look at the huge crowd for gaming). Technology was too much for traditional marriages.
@@NONAME-hz1se True. The uncertainty of the continuously changing labor market left a lot of men (and subsequently their wives) stressed and seeking to release it in unhealthy ways (gambling, alcoholism, or worst of all spousal abuse). It also didn't help that the labor market was beginning to be more flooded with extra laborers, such as women that were recently freed from housework responsibilities, and immigrants from abroad, such as the Irish.

@@merioceann i honestly really liked her sections. i think the difference between the dynamics of that relationship and the other two made it different than if it were just two or three traditional couples. to me there’s a huge emotional difference between experiencing betrayal in a situation you have little to no knowledge of vs a situation that you helped create, facilitate, and are now being excluded from and essentially punished for trying to involve yourself in. i could be wrong but from my observations from watching this season a million times that’s what i gathered.

I bet you she would actually have more fun like that if he wasn't the way he is. I mean, she's bringing up the mood of the party, and everyone is enjoying her company, and he's just looking at her in disgust. (Spoiler) The show is "Why women kill," and in this scene, I think I remember she accidentally ate an edible, and that's why she's like that. She is usually more reserved, quite but very polite so it was great to see her have fun. Also what I meant by "she'd have more fun if he wasn't the way he was" is that he cheats on her and she found out and he just isn't there for her but pretends to be a good husband. Also, if I remember correctly, they loved her and told him to bring her back when they do that again sooooo really, he should be grateful she was there.
@c.l4219 True, I definitely agree. I think because of the time period, she strived to be a good wife and be loyal and doting, and also the guilt she has about their daughter especially since he blamed her for it is what caused her to stay. And then plan everything out for revenge. But if she had never met him and had someone else, it would've been perfect for her. He never saw her as a human being.

He learns that something he thought his wife did was easy is actually hard and that could teach him to appreciate what she does more.
And vice versa. Husbands who fix cars, washing machines, and other complicated or tedious items should also be appreciated by wives.

All he thinks is if it was that hard she'd stop doing it because she doesn't want to put in that extra effort it's not that big of a deal but it is that detail makes things look so much nicer it's challenging the husband to do it that is chef's kiss it's so good give them a little bit more appreciation for his wife
It does. I love seeing things like this from the other side.
I can see what goes into the parts I'm not too much involved in, and I can see our strengths. 😊

I like how the other dudes are just having fun tryna figure out how to make a swan 😂
It's very sweet. They seem like good company 😂
This is the cause of the issues the men stopped appreciating what women did and expecting it 24/7 without help
Amen...

I bet you she would actually have more fun like that if he wasn't the way he is. I mean, she's bringing up the mood of the party, and everyone is enjoying her company, and he's just looking at her in disgust.
(Spoiler)
The show is "Why women kill," and in this scene, I think I remember she accidentally ate an edible, and that's why she's like that.
She would be happy if she would have never met him.... Or finally has the strength to leave him.
Thank youuuu!! I kept looking for a comment that actually said the name of the show but couldn't find any!
