Yup. She may have wanted to kill him for the cheating. But what sealed hos fate. What she could not forgive was the utter betrayal of him being responsible for the death of there child. And letting her think it was her. Berating her for it. Gaslighting her for it. And then continued to cheat on her.

The daughter died because he had his mistress over to the house and she left the gate open. Her husband had continually blamed the wife for their daughters death for years. Eventually the old mistress needed up calling the wife on the phone and told her what happened all those years ago and how sorry she was about what happened. I think the husband knew that it wasn’t his wife’s fault but blamed her anyway as a form of emotional manipulation. And continued to cheat on her with other women. Not a very good husband. 0/10. Would not recommend.
ETA: mistress talked to her in person - not on the phone. I had misremembered! And the husband definitely knew it wasn’t the wife’s fault the whole time.
    ETA 2: show 10/10; husband 0/10

What I like about this scene is that based on the words she uses you can interpret it as she didn't even expect him to tell the truth, she just wanted him to stop blaming her and encouraging her to blame herself for their daughters death. She doesn't say, tell me the truth" she says "come up with some other explanation". At no point does she day anything to make it really obvious that she knows the truth and just wants him to admit it. She leaves her statements open ended enough that he could have weasel out an explanation that absolved her of blame without necessarily telling the truth. She says, "is there anything else that happened" not "I know what you did." But he continued to blame her for something terrible that was his fault.

She had told him it was important to her and had fairly given him not just one but two opportunities to save himself by finally doing the right thing but he refused to take it so now he had to face the consequences of being a scumbag.

Mainly the men, in my experience .
Though, that's applicable to NOW (a bunch of those "red pulled" "men", & INCELS, & _other_ misogynist PsOS).
      I was not yet born,in the 1950s.
But, I was raised in a patriarchal, misogynist fundamentalist cult.
      I know male s*xist b@$tards.
However, I'm sure there are men who have tangled with women who want a protector & provider...
...& don't want to do their part.
Relationships & marriages aren't going to be effective if they involve arrogant, entitled s*xists,
& people too lazy to care about their partners & THEIR needs,
nor those who uphold decency & integrity.

He let his wife think it was her.

Well he did not do it to maliciously kill his daughter but he indeed had very malicious affairs going on that caused his daughter to die, such as cheating. His fcking mistress left the gate open and he gaslit his wife into thinking it was her fault just so he wouldn't be caught cheating. As if that wasn't bad enough, he kept reminding her how it was "her fault" every single damn time he wanted to put her down.
I suppose you're right; it probably does not matter whose fault it was unless whoever it was did it maliciously. But I guess you should tell that to the "husband" first.
