It's not depicted as wholesome the boys family literally tries to kill her over it cause the mother probably thinks she's been doing it with him since before he was 18 and almost everyone chastised her for the relationship when they found out.
Do not tell me you haven't seen this trope in movies except gender reversed it happens a lot more than you'd like to admit. It's still gross no matter the gender. No one said it's a wholesome movie plot, this is the only thing audience hated about simone.
