I just want to say Uyen's crocheting skills is NOT THE NORM! She is one of those really gifted in crocheting because soooooo many projects can't be done in the time that she does it for NORMAL PEOPLE LOLOLOL and her learning how to crochet is at some ridiculously quick pace hahah, so pleaseeeeee set your expectation super low and not because you've seen one of her videos because I take 4h to make a tiny airpods pouch while she takes only 3h to finish a huge jellyfish stuffed toy lololol it's not normal! 😂😂😂
And for me 4 hours is way too much for a tiny piece. Crocheting experience varies due to the hooks, the yarn, the stitch, the gage. So everyone has their own times 😊❤.
Omg yes! I started a small amigurumi project, spent 5 hours over 2 days, and only like 1/4 of a small toy was done. Then day 3 came with a horrible neck pain and therefore a headache. That’s how I started and stopped crocheting in 2 days 😂
Uyen i crochet since i am 10 years old and i am 30 now. I could never crochet such an animal in one hour in this quality. Please be aware u are very talented
I'm pretty sure that Uyen took the easiest amigurumi to rate^^ Like those jelly fishes look very simple. But it always depends on what you want to make and how many parts are to sew in. I just think Uyen enjoys crocheting so much that she does't see how the time flies by xD

Crochet is not an easy hobby....she is exceptionally gifted. Those soft toys that she is saying she make in an hour or so...takes 6 to 7 hours atleast even for experienced crocheters, especially the quality of her work.....she is gifted!
One hour is very fast. My smallest, fastest animal to make takes at least two hours, but I guess the tiny cats she has made probably take about an hour or so Edit: since this is still getting likes, I thought I should clarify: my smallest animal to make is an axolotl, so there’s a lot of tiny things I have to surface crochet on and then hide the ends
ive been crocheting many years and making the animals (called amigurumi) can get quite tedious. you need to know not just one stitch but also increasing, decreasing, how to join and change colors. the legs and arms are also small sometimes. I would not recommend a new crocheter to start with amigurumi unless you are extremely ambitious! 😅
@@leaveittoleftyi think it depends. I teach crochet and typically start with amigurumi. Blankets or wearables can be discouraging to new crocheters because progress is slow but amigurumi gives you a finished product much quicker, which can be immensely satisfying for a beginner. It would depend on the person I think. :)
Board games are recommended for learning patience, waiting for your turn, working collaboratively, lots of learning d pending on the game, it all depends on the game

That’s actually how it’s taught in school! Since Latin is a dead language in Germany Latin is pronounced with German pronunciation rules, I’ve been told in France they pronounce it after French rules, etc.
@@chilins8083 In the US, we usually sing (and say) Latin as what we call "Church Latin," which is closer to Italian pronunciation. But once I sang Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, and because he was German we were asked to sing the Latin as if we were German, which was interesting.

I've been crocheting for years and don't find animals like that easy at all. I still mess up even way simpler patterns. You must be really talented! Cause for us normal folk it's not that easy, I swear 😂
A hobby I'd recommend is embroidery! It's really easy in my opinion and not too expensive. You just need some yarn, a needle and an embroidery hoop, which aren't too expensive. I just watched some tutorials on RUclips for different stitches and then jumped right into embroidering on some old clothes of mine that I wasn't wearing much any more because I got bored of how they look. Now I wear them again instead of buying new ones, which is cheaper and better for the environment too. ^^"
That's the latest hobby I'm into, as of last month, and it's very nice indeed. It relaxes me and calms my mind (which tends to race with thoughts sometimes). 😊
I disagree about the board game cost. You only buy it once and you can play it forever. I'm a hobby baker and I can easily spend a $100 baking for a holiday, birthday, general party. That's for ingredients only, not counting if I wear out a tool or decide I need a new pan. Board games, I might spend up to $100 for one game, but it will be played several times a year.
Board games are very expensive in my country like 1/9 of you entire month salary, if you want them to be in original language the price can go up to twice as much as your entire month salary
Boardgames are very expensive up front even though they last a long time, often for many years (if not getting tired of it), but considering the upfront cost of purchasing each game, I do consider it a very expensive hobby if having more than say 1-3 different games. I'm not into boardgames myself, haven't really played any since childhood. I'm a computer game player though (mostly FFXIV) which can also be an expensive hobby mainly because of the hardware needed (gaming computers or computers powerful enough for current games don't come cheap after all) and the games can cost a fair bit as well, but like boardgames they can provide entertainment for many years. FFXIV cost me I think about €70 to buy (in total, including the latest expansion that was released a few weeks ago), and then there's the monthly subscription cost of about €12, and the occasional replacing controller (while I play on a gaming laptop, I use a controller because it works better for my hands vs mouse and keyboard). Definitely not cheap but giving so much joy and I also met the love of my life in FFXIV little over 2 years ago now when I was new to the game :3
Btw, board games can sometimes be borrowed from a local library. Not sure whether it's a thing in Germany tho... It's free and if you have some board games you've bought but no longer enjoy playing, they can be donated to this same library
My cousin is really into strategic board games and those can easily go forom 20 euros to over a hundred euros per game. And that's not counting the ad ons to make the game more interesting. Its true that these games can be played infinitely after buying but meany people like myself do get bored of playing the same game after 50 rounds. So if you want to have boardgames as a hobby and actually own the games (and not just rent them to play once), it can get really pricy.
tip if you wanna start ukulele and you don't have a lot of money: get a really cheap ukulele and buy a set of good strings, and replace the cheap strings immediately. It's very easy to change the strings and it makes a world of difference for the sound!

I have re-strung a guitar before and it's also simple and I think it can be said that good strings can do A LOT of work towards a cheap instrument sounding better! Of course, if you do have the money to invest in a good instrument thats the best course of action, but if it's about getting the most out of little money, I'd say go for it
I would recommend paying enough to get a playable guitar. Yamaha has a wide range but anything decent will work. If it is too hard to play it will discourage you IMO@@hollywebster6844

Das merkt man daran, dass sie sehr schnell gelernt hat zu häkeln und das auch schnell und mit Maschen, die sehr sauber aussehen. Ich häkel seit über neun Jahren, begann mit elf und habe vier Jahre gebraucht, bis ich überhaupt richtig häkeln konnte… also ihr lieben Häkelanfänger, orientiert euch nicht an Uyen oder an anderen Leuten, die sehr schnell lernen, denn bei den meisten sieht das Ganze anders aus❤ also kein Stress, es wird!
I’ve been crocheting over 50 years now and I’m always learning new things 🥰 endless possibilities~I just made my grandson a Large Bulbasaur today and making my granddaughter a 3’ Bluey tomorrow in between making sourdough bread cutting up my garden produce. Always something different. Just clean as you go and you’ll never have a mess 😁

I must defend boardgame's benefit ! it has been proven that it keeps your brain young : Regularly playing stimulates brain areas that can offset the risk of life-changing conditions like Alzheimer's and dementia, or at least soften the blow a bit. so lets correct it to 5/5. especially since it has the other benefit to allow to make easily new friend and bring people together and allow introvert to be part of it. I love your boyfriend garden ! so nice to think abouts the little animals.
About board games: The benefits of playing board games with friends and family are great. You learn social skill, communicational skill. It is a great time to spend with kids.

I was thinking even the amount of yarn that she does have would get expensive. Maybe she can get it very cheaply at a dollar store, but I imagine that isn't the quality you'd want for anything other than plushies which aren't handled or washed very often.

My hobbies are knitting, baking, plants/gardening, and a few more. You can do all 3 cheap or expensive, depends on your own priorities. The first knitting needles and yard I bought were 1€ each, nowadays it's 5-10€ and 2,50-5€ (which is still on the cheap side). You can also do them easy or complicated. Follow a pattern or write your own? Do colourwork, cables or knit plain? Same with baking, I have a 20 year old hand mixer that cost 5€ back in the day. Still works but I recently replaced it with a higher quality one which was on sale for 20€. Pans you can get for 5€+, the best scraper I have is from ikea 1€. Yet again same with gardening. You can use cheap 2€ dirt/soil from a supermarket and it will work, or you can buy it for 10€+. Since I love my hobbies and have enough money I usually buy higher quality utensils, but I was also doing all hobbies when I was super broke. And since I' m doing all hobbies to craft stuff for myself I don't actually know how useful I'd rate them. Very? As I always have sweaters made of 100% wool for 10-20 € which would cost about 100€ in a store. And I forgot to buy bread today, but can bake my own. Gardening: To make the yield really count you'd have to have a rather big garden which I haven't, but it's nice to be surrounded by plants.

My grandpa is really into gardening too although he can't do as much due to his age. He got up at 5am to bike to his garden at 6am. Came back in the early evening, bringing flowers and other stuff he grew. At the 50th wedding anniversary from my grandparents my brother asked them how they made it spening 50 years together. My grandma said "50 years? Well, he wasn't here half the time so it was easy!". I love their sassyness 😂
You can also turn clothes into other clothes when sewing! I highly recommend! I like to go to secondhand stores and buy clothes that catch my eye, but either dont fit my body or aesthetic exactly right. Then I turn them into cute stuff that does. It's easier, cheaper, and arguably more fun than completely making a garment from scratch!
About dancing: You could try learning social dances which are danced with partners (traditional, latin, swing dances). I'm currently learning the swing dance Lindy Hop and having lots of fun! Some dance clubs host free social dances every week, where everyone can learn the basic steps.
Uyen, you are extremely talented and you are unknowingly setting us up for failure and frustration, when we discover we can’t just crochet away and have a cute animal after an hour, or just know how to fix our clothes with the sewing machine. Some of the hobbies I already failed (gardening or baking), I think my only hope are the sick insects but I don’t think I would enjoy petting them…
Sewing really isn't easy, though fixing clothes is still really worth learning I think! There are so many good tutorials out there today and something simple like shortening pants really is feasible even for total beginners. Lengthening or making a garment bigger, however... much harder. Or working with stretch fabric, ugh.
My stepmum also learned crocheting very fast when she was pregnant she made me a dinosaur it was kind of goofy and cute but her second one was for my sister and it was very good, it was like she was a professional already. But I tried to learn and could not even make a one chain for 50mins straight. I think your a very talented person
I agree with German boyfriend - great social tool and also very relaxing. And you can game regularly without having so many games. So you can vary your collection based on your free cash -whereas yarn is expensive, there aren’t really any way to do that hobby if you are short on cash, but you can play a game you bought ten years ago.

A hobby I found easy and cheap to try out for a start is needle felting. IMO the results are cuter than crochet because it doesn't have that pattern on the surface and is more smooth and fuzzy. There are lots of craft kits on Amazon below 10 bucks, I got myself an orange kitty one to see whether I'd like it. It's easy to do while listening to a podcast and chilling (I listened to all of the Magnus Archives while making a tentacle monster). The main drawback is that poking yourself with the needles is very painful, so clumsy people like me are best off wearing finger guards or keeping eyes on the work at all times. Like most arts/crafts hobbies, it tends to get expensive if you get really into it, but that's no different from crocheting. I think that even less artistically gifted people can produce something cute, even if it doesn't come out exactly like the picture. For me, I was so proud that my orange kitty turned out just as cute - maybe even cuter - than the package promised. I have an art degree, but still, that NEVER happens with a new skill! The cat is now sitting in a planter at our home, and I subsequently also needle felted a cat for a friend who I catsitted for, made from the fur of her cat that I brushed out. She loved it and it was a great gift!

I started photography because I love birdwatching, but taking good photos is too hard for me. After two years of trying I quit. Gardening is too exhausting and demanding for me. Baking is literally chemistry so if you're frustrated about things being inconsistent just look a little deeper into what that ingredient does and how they interact so you can make spontaneous decisions in baking and still have successful results. Xx x

Photography is a really awesome hobby!!! im a wildlife (mostly bird) photographer and use the Sony α7III with a 200-600mm lens. I know the price and skill can be intimidating, but I find it extremely awarding. I love going outside and trying to find the most interesting animals I can! It’s a good excuse to go hiking and/or walking whenever it’s nice and sunny out.
I've just started learning how to crochet this week. It is hard but I am getting the hang of chaining. It's really nice to listen to other people's hobbies even if I'm not going to pursue them myself, it is still nice to see that it makes people happy.
I started crocheting after watching the absolute joy Uyen had while doing it in the last year. Last month I finally caved in, and I’m 2 projects in and very happy ☺️ I made a checked sleeve for my kindle and a tulip book cover!
I don’t know how common dishwashers are in Germany, but when I started using a dishwasher after baking it was a game changer. Defiantly helps handle all the bowls, spoons, etc that pile up while baking

At my hometown in the south of Germany there is a Board Game Verein. We meet every week and play a lot of board games. During summertime we also meet in the park and do outside games. I got many new friends there!
@akanshayadav8699 Yes and no. People with ADHD have the ability to learn and become really good at something very quickly. So we really don't have to "stick" to them as long as most people and our hobbies tend to rotate around our lives for the long term.
@@akanshayadav8699 I have ADHD and I have a main hobby (sewing) but also frequently try new side hobbies. They're usually skills that are related to sewing (knitting, crochet, embroidery) or something that's useful to me (cooking, crafting, etc). There's absolutely nothing wrong with not sticking with a hobby. You don't forget everything you learned whilst engaging in that hobby, and once the passion/enjoyment is gone there's no reason to stick to it. Others might find this very relatable; I can master a skill fairly quickly but once I do master it and have ran out of ideas to make with it, I often lose interest in it and it goes into the memory bank for future reference. I do revisit old hobbies when it becomes relevant again. Then it's also much easier to get the hang of it again.
I have been crocheting for 35 years and took time to teach both my daughter's, some niece's and friends. You have a real talent! Your stitches were very even after like 1 project! It takes most people to get stitches that straight a year or 2! Keep it up!

I always love people trying something new and trying to motivate everyone to do a new thing. Not everyone is a prodigy so fail a couple of times until you can do something new is totally normal. This year, I tried cross country skiing and ice bath for the first time. Fall down for about 20 times but I'm okay with the ski now 😅

Those insects were really cool!!! It's so important to have hobbies you love. It helps keep boredom away & helps with mental stability. For those of us who are disabled and can't get around very easily, hobbies are really important because we are confined to our homes a lot!!

Learning to crochet helped me stop smoking cigarettes! It’s hard to smoke when both hands are busy and it keeps you from the anxiety and wanting to eat! And like you said, it’s easy and you see results quickly. I wouldn’t start with that animal, Beanies or scarves are VERY easy!
Such a cute and inspiring video! It's very important to have hobbies and experience new ones every once in a while. I know some people without any hobbies and I think living this way is very boring. But as a beginner in sewing, I have to say it's one of the most frustrating and hard hobbies out there... I like it very much and I enjoy making things, but it's definitely not easy.
Hated crochet so much at school. Can't imagine liking it. Plus difficulty level is higher when you have cats trying to steal the wool 😂 Love baking. Made a trial cake to try a recipe and try a different kind of sugar for a co workers birthday. I learned the basics of crocheting in school during the Textiles Werken class. With my untreated ADHD at the time, it frustrated me to the point of tears, and I hated every single second of it. But if you don't have the same developmental disorder like me, I can imagine it to be a relaxing, therapeutic activity.

Yes, I have grand aunts who could potentially whip out crocheted (or knitted) projects like that in a day, but their hands have learned to move at lightspeed after literal decades of muscle memory skills. Meanwhile....Uyen, I want the recipes to the Asian cakes please! Cus I am trying to eat plant-based without dairy so what you describe would be awesome. ( love to bake )
You can see how important it is to have different hobbies, and how well its works when each partner has their own interests but I find it so cute and important how you also have hobbies you do together and how you two participate in each others interests without pushing each other into “having” to like what the other person likes. You got such a great balance in your relationship 🫶🏻
In Canada (where I am), we have board game cafes where people can pay to play and they have a wide selections so you can try out games before investing in any.
I absolutely second mending and alternations as a satisfying and cost-effective hobby. I can make nearly anything last forever and things that don't fit, to fit perfectly. Visible mending is especially satisfying. It's how it turns textiles into living items, that have history and soul. I love finding secondhand items with mends, it makes me feel like I'm continuing the love and use of that item, it gives connection to others who might be gone.
My husband just bought a bread maker. I asked him to buy me a "healthy" (good ingredients and no preservatives) loaf of bread when he was at the store. He came home without the bread and told me that he just could not force himself pay $10 for a loaf of bread. So he spent $150 on a bread machine, $16 on 1 bag of organic flour, etc., etc. He made 2-3 loaves a day trying to prefect the recipes and playing with his new toy. I just bought a $60 bread box to keep the multiple loaves we bake. In the end, we decided that a bread machine is not much better than making the bread by hand in the oven. But it's a fun hobby, and the bread is 🤤 but I'm not sure it's cheaper than buying bread.
My bff has a breadmachine, but she prefers the free form loaves she bakes in her oven so she just uses the breadmaker to mix and knead the dough. She doesn't have a standmixer so it makes sense for her to use the breadmachine for that. My mom on the other hand uses her breadmaker as intended. She buys really good flour though at our local mill and has made bread in her breadmaker for years, so her bread comes out pretty well. We now have a local store than sells day old bread for 0.25 euro a loaf, and my mother has made bread less frequently in the machine as a result. I recently started baking with the "artisan bread in 5 minutes a day" method. I've had the book for over a decade before I first tried to make the bread with it. My results so far have not been spectacular, I still need to figure out how to control the moisture level of the dough. They were all edible though.
I love the no knead method of making bread! I do 500g flour, 1tsp yeast, 1.5tsp kosher salt & 340g water. Mix it up before bed and bake in the morning.
I agree that baking is a very expensive hobby - but not for the utensils (you pay once and can use it for many years to come). It's actually the energy costs and the ingredients. Depending where you live, eggs can be crazy expensive. Or when you have improved, you'll be looking for the highest quality ingredients (because you know that it makes the difference). I stopped baking years ago but would to start again some day.
I am sorry you didn't like sewing clothes. I actually love it. I can imagine taking a class would be a good way to learn enough to be successful. I agree it is super useful! I make all my daughters' dresses almost. 😊
Dancing is supposed to be moving your body the way it wants to be moved! If you think youre bad at dancing it may be because youre too focused on your left and rights and on learning choreographed sets of moves to try whatever the popular dance of the moment is, instead of just feeling your body and listening to it and allowing it to feel the music its own way. Of course there are group dances (i danced competitively for a decade i have no problem with choreo'd or troupe dances, and ive done guided zumba also) and if that floats your boat then thats a wonderful social opportunity! But i think everyone who wants to dance would be better at it if they learned to let their body guide them naturally before going for specific sets of moves that you have to remember specific timings of too
No no no, I'm already drowning in hobbies, don't tell me more 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I did crochet and switched to knitting, but did cross stitch since I was a teenager. My more recent obsessions are paper crafts with creative journaling topping the list right now. This is on top of playing music, reading and photography. Not enough hours in a day!
All in all, I think this is a really sweet and lovely video. As a person with many hobbies, it was nice watching someone talk about what they enjoy and why they enjoy it. Would definitely encourage people to pick up a hobbie or skill, whatever it may be, because it encourages you to improve upon yourself and to be forever learning and exploring. @@Fandoms4Life I crochet, knit, sew clothes and felt ornaments/animals, embroider, crossstitch, beadwork, garden, arrange flowers for events, read, bake, cook, craft with my kids (paper mache, paint, clay, make cardboard structures), teach an after school STEM program for kids, learn ASL, watch RUclips 😂 I do rotate through them and usually have several ongoing projects at once.
For people looking for easy instruments - I also recommend ocarina and kalimba. The benefit of those also are that they are very portable; I can slip the ocarina in my pocket on a hike and serenade the trees ❤
When it comes to sewing it's also important to know, that you need to buy fabric, and if you want to wear something of good quality it is VERY expensive. Especially since there is a possibility that you can always mess things up and end up wasting 2-3 meters of fabric because you've cut it wrong or because it doesn't fit and you don't know how to fix it.

The first crochet plushie was about an inch X 2 cm and it took me over an hour, and if I sewed the pieces together it prob would take 2 hours

I started a small amigurumi project, spent 5 hours over 2 days, and only like 1/4 of a small toy was done. Then day 3 came with a horrible neck pain and therefore a headache. That’s how I started and stopped crocheting in 2 days 😂

I think she uses pretty thick yarn and hooks which make crocheting go way faster than if one works with thinner yarn

Crochet is not an easy hobby....she is exceptionally gifted. Those soft toys that she is saying she make in an hour or so...takes 6 to 7 hours atleast even for experienced crocheters, especially the quality of her work.....she is gifted!

One hour is very fast. My smallest, fastest animal to make takes at least two hours, but I guess the tiny cats she has made probably take about an hour or so

ive been crocheting many years and making the animals (called amigurumi) can get quite tedious. you need to know not just one stitch but also increasing, decreasing, how to join and change colors. the legs and arms are also small sometimes. I would not recommend a new crocheter to start with amigurumi unless you are extremely ambitious! 😅
@@leaveittoleftyi think it depends. I teach crochet and typically start with amigurumi. Blankets or wearables can be discouraging to new crocheters because progress is slow but amigurumi gives you a finished product much quicker, which can be immensely satisfying for a beginner. It would depend on the person I think. :)

That’s actually how it’s taught in school! Since Latin is a dead language in Germany Latin is pronounced with German pronunciation rules, I’ve been told in France they pronounce it after French rules, etc.

A hobby I'd recommend is embroidery! It's really easy in my opinion and not too expensive. You just need some yarn, a needle and an embroidery hoop, which aren't too expensive. I just watched some tutorials on RUclips for different stitches and then jumped right into embroidering on some old clothes of mine that I wasn't wearing much any more because I got bored of how they look. Now I wear them again instead of buying new ones, which is cheaper and better for the environment too. ^^"
That's the latest hobby I'm into, as of last month, and it's very nice indeed. It relaxes me and calms my mind (which tends to race with thoughts sometimes). 😊

I disagree about the board game cost. You only buy it once and you can play it forever. I'm a hobby baker and I can easily spend a $100 baking for a holiday, birthday, general party. That's for ingredients only, not counting if I wear out a tool or decide I need a new pan. Board games, I might spend up to $100 for one game, but it will be played several times a year.
Board games are very expensive in my country like 1/9 of you entire month salary, if you want them to be in original language the price can go up to twice as much as your entire month salary
Boardgames are very expensive up front even though they last a long time, often for many years (if not getting tired of it), but considering the upfront cost of purchasing each game, I do consider it a very expensive hobby if having more than say 1-3 different games.
I'm not into boardgames myself, haven't really played any since childhood. I'm a computer game player though (mostly FFXIV) which can also be an expensive hobby mainly because of the hardware needed (gaming computers or computers powerful enough for current games don't come cheap after all) and the games can cost a fair bit as well, but like boardgames they can provide entertainment for many years. FFXIV cost me I think about €70 to buy (in total, including the latest expansion that was released a few weeks ago), and then there's the monthly subscription cost of about €12, and the occasional replacing controller (while I play on a gaming laptop, I use a controller because it works better for my hands vs mouse and keyboard). Definitely not cheap but giving so much joy and I also met the love of my life in FFXIV little over 2 years ago now when I was new to the game :3
Btw, board games can sometimes be borrowed from a local library. Not sure whether it's a thing in Germany tho... It's free and if you have some board games you've bought but no longer enjoy playing, they can be donated to this same library
My cousin is really into strategic board games and those can easily go forom 20 euros to over a hundred euros per game. And that's not counting the ad ons to make the game more interesting. Its true that these games can be played infinitely after buying but meany people like myself do get bored of playing the same game after 50 rounds. So if you want to have boardgames as a hobby and actually own the games (and not just rent them to play once), it can get really pricy.

tip if you wanna start ukulele and you don't have a lot of money: get a really cheap ukulele and buy a set of good strings, and replace the cheap strings immediately. It's very easy to change the strings and it makes a world of difference for the sound!

I have re-strung a guitar before and it's also simple and I think it can be said that good strings can do A LOT of work towards a cheap instrument sounding better! Of course, if you do have the money to invest in a good instrument thats the best course of action, but if it's about getting the most out of little money, I'd say go for it

My hobbies are knitting, baking, plants/gardening, and a few more.
You can do all 3 cheap or expensive, depends on your own priorities. The first knitting needles and yard I bought were 1€ each, nowadays it's 5-10€ and 2,50-5€ (which is still on the cheap side). You can also do them easy or complicated. Follow a pattern or write your own? Do colourwork, cables or knit plain?
Same with baking, I have a 20 year old hand mixer that cost 5€ back in the day. Still works but I recently replaced it with a higher quality one which was on sale for 20€. Pans you can get for 5€+, the best scraper I have is from ikea 1€.
Yet again same with gardening. You can use cheap 2€ dirt/soil from a supermarket and it will work, or you can buy it for 10€+.
Since I love my hobbies and have enough money I usually buy higher quality utensils, but I was also doing all hobbies when I was super broke.
And since I' m doing all hobbies to craft stuff for myself I don't actually know how useful I'd rate them. Very? As I always have sweaters made of 100% wool for 10-20 € which would cost about 100€ in a store. And I forgot to buy bread today, but can bake my own. Gardening: To make the yield really count you'd have to have a rather big garden which I haven't, but it's nice to be surrounded by plants.

My grandpa is really into gardening too although he can't do as much due to his age. He got up at 5am to bike to his garden at 6am. Came back in the early evening, bringing flowers and other stuff he grew. At the 50th wedding anniversary from my grandparents my brother asked them how they made it spening 50 years together. My grandma said "50 years? Well, he wasn't here half the time so it was easy!". I love their sassyness 😂
You can also turn clothes into other clothes when sewing! I highly recommend! I like to go to secondhand stores and buy clothes that catch my eye, but either dont fit my body or aesthetic exactly right. Then I turn them into cute stuff that does. It's easier, cheaper, and arguably more fun than completely making a garment from scratch!

Sewing really isn't easy, though fixing clothes is still really worth learning I think! There are so many good tutorials out there today and something simple like shortening pants really is feasible even for total beginners. Lengthening or making a garment bigger, however... much harder. Or working with stretch fabric, ugh.

I agree with German boyfriend - great social tool and also very relaxing. And you can game regularly without having so many games. So you can vary your collection based on your free cash -whereas yarn is expensive, there aren’t really any way to do that hobby if you are short on cash, but you can play a game you bought ten years ago.

Uyen's frustration towards dancing being hard is so funny
A hobby I found easy and cheap to try out for a start is needle felting. IMO the results are cuter than crochet because it doesn't have that pattern on the surface and is more smooth and fuzzy. There are lots of craft kits on Amazon below 10 bucks, I got myself an orange kitty one to see whether I'd like it. It's easy to do while listening to a podcast and chilling (I listened to all of the Magnus Archives while making a tentacle monster). The main drawback is that poking yourself with the needles is very painful, so clumsy people like me are best off wearing finger guards or keeping eyes on the work at all times. Like most arts/crafts hobbies, it tends to get expensive if you get really into it, but that's no different from crocheting.
I think that even less artistically gifted people can produce something cute, even if it doesn't come out exactly like the picture. For me, I was so proud that my orange kitty turned out just as cute - maybe even cuter - than the package promised. I have an art degree, but still, that NEVER happens with a new skill! The cat is now sitting in a planter at our home, and I subsequently also needle felted a cat for a friend who I catsitted for, made from the fur of her cat that I brushed out. She loved it and it was a great gift!

I started photography because I love birdwatching, but taking good photos is too hard for me. After two years of trying I quit. Gardening is too exhausting and demanding for me. Baking is literally chemistry so if you're frustrated about things being inconsistent just look a little deeper into what that ingredient does and how they interact so you can make spontaneous decisions in baking and still have successful results. Xx x

Photography is a really awesome hobby!!! im a wildlife (mostly bird) photographer and use the Sony α7III with a 200-600mm lens. I know the price and skill can be intimidating, but I find it extremely awarding. I love going outside and trying to find the most interesting animals I can! It’s a good excuse to go hiking and/or walking whenever it’s nice and sunny out.
I've just started learning how to crochet this week. It is hard but I am getting the hang of chaining. It's really nice to listen to other people's hobbies even if I'm not going to pursue them myself, it is still nice to see that it makes people happy.

I don’t know how common dishwashers are in Germany, but when I started using a dishwasher after baking it was a game changer. Defiantly helps handle all the bowls, spoons, etc that pile up while baking

At my hometown in the south of Germany there is a Board Game Verein. We meet every week and play a lot of board games. During summertime we also meet in the park and do outside games. I got many new friends there!

@akanshayadav8699 Yes and no. People with ADHD have the ability to learn and become really good at something very quickly.
So we really don't have to "stick" to them as long as most people and our hobbies tend to rotate around our lives for the long term.
@@akanshayadav8699 I have ADHD and I have a main hobby (sewing) but also frequently try new side hobbies. They're usually skills that are related to sewing (knitting, crochet, embroidery) or something that's useful to me (cooking, crafting, etc).
There's absolutely nothing wrong with not sticking with a hobby. You don't forget everything you learned whilst engaging in that hobby, and once the passion/enjoyment is gone there's no reason to stick to it.
Others might find this very relatable; I can master a skill fairly quickly but once I do master it and have ran out of ideas to make with it, I often lose interest in it and it goes into the memory bank for future reference.
I do revisit old hobbies when it becomes relevant again. Then it's also much easier to get the hang of it again.
I have been crocheting for 35 years and took time to teach both my daughter's, some niece's and friends. You have a real talent! Your stitches were very even after like 1 project! It takes most people to get stitches that straight a year or 2! Keep it up!

I learned the basics of crocheting in school during the Textiles Werken class. With my untreated ADHD at the time, it frustrated me to the point of tears, and I hated every single second of it.
But if you don't have the same developmental disorder like me, I can imagine it to be a relaxing, therapeutic activity.

You can see how important it is to have different hobbies, and how well its works when each partner has their own interests but I find it so cute and important how you also have hobbies you do together and how you two participate in each others interests without pushing each other into “having” to like what the other person likes. You got such a great balance in your relationship 🫶🏻
In Canada (where I am), we have board game cafes where people can pay to play and they have a wide selections so you can try out games before investing in any.
My daughter does that! She also has a group of friends who get together almost weekly to play different games. Also Canada.

I absolutely second mending and alternations as a satisfying and cost-effective hobby. I can make nearly anything last forever and things that don't fit, to fit perfectly. Visible mending is especially satisfying. It's how it turns textiles into living items, that have history and soul. I love finding secondhand items with mends, it makes me feel like I'm continuing the love and use of that item, it gives connection to others who might be gone.
My husband just bought a bread maker. I asked him to buy me a "healthy" (good ingredients and no preservatives) loaf of bread when he was at the store. He came home without the bread and told me that he just could not force himself pay $10 for a loaf of bread. So he spent $150 on a bread machine, $16 on 1 bag of organic flour, etc., etc. He made 2-3 loaves a day trying to prefect the recipes and playing with his new toy.
I just bought a $60 bread box to keep the multiple loaves we bake. In the end, we decided that a bread machine is not much better than making the bread by hand in the oven. But it's a fun hobby, and the bread is 🤤 but I'm not sure it's cheaper than buying bread.
My bff has a breadmachine, but she prefers the free form loaves she bakes in her oven so she just uses the breadmaker to mix and knead the dough. She doesn't have a standmixer so it makes sense for her to use the breadmachine for that.
My mom on the other hand uses her breadmaker as intended. She buys really good flour though at our local mill and has made bread in her breadmaker for years, so her bread comes out pretty well. We now have a local store than sells day old bread for 0.25 euro a loaf, and my mother has made bread less frequently in the machine as a result.
I recently started baking with the "artisan bread in 5 minutes a day" method. I've had the book for over a decade before I first tried to make the bread with it. My results so far have not been spectacular, I still need to figure out how to control the moisture level of the dough. They were all edible though.
Brot sollte nicht unbedingt billiger sein, auf jeden Fall aber ist es besser. So schlecht wie gekauftes Brot kann man es gar nicht backen
I love the no knead method of making bread! I do 500g flour, 1tsp yeast, 1.5tsp kosher salt & 340g water. Mix it up before bed and bake in the morning.

I agree that baking is a very expensive hobby - but not for the utensils (you pay once and can use it for many years to come). It's actually the energy costs and the ingredients. Depending where you live, eggs can be crazy expensive. Or when you have improved, you'll be looking for the highest quality ingredients (because you know that it makes the difference). I stopped baking years ago but would to start again some day.

I am sorry you didn't like sewing clothes. I actually love it. I can imagine taking a class would be a good way to learn enough to be successful. I agree it is super useful! I make all my daughters' dresses almost. 😊

Dancing is supposed to be moving your body the way it wants to be moved! If you think youre bad at dancing it may be because youre too focused on your left and rights and on learning choreographed sets of moves to try whatever the popular dance of the moment is, instead of just feeling your body and listening to it and allowing it to feel the music its own way. Of course there are group dances (i danced competitively for a decade i have no problem with choreo'd or troupe dances, and ive done guided zumba also) and if that floats your boat then thats a wonderful social opportunity! But i think everyone who wants to dance would be better at it if they learned to let their body guide them naturally before going for specific sets of moves that you have to remember specific timings of too

I did crochet and switched to knitting, but did cross stitch since I was a teenager. My more recent obsessions are paper crafts with creative journaling topping the list right now.
This is on top of playing music, reading and photography. Not enough hours in a day!
All in all, I think this is a really sweet and lovely video. As a person with many hobbies, it was nice watching someone talk about what they enjoy and why they enjoy it. Would definitely encourage people to pick up a hobbie or skill, whatever it may be, because it encourages you to improve upon yourself and to be forever learning and exploring. @@Fandoms4Life I crochet, knit, sew clothes and felt ornaments/animals, embroider, crossstitch, beadwork, garden, arrange flowers for events, read, bake, cook, craft with my kids (paper mache, paint, clay, make cardboard structures), teach an after school STEM program for kids, learn ASL, watch RUclips 😂
I do rotate through them and usually have several ongoing projects at once.

I do a lot of sewing, but you can even sew just with a hand needle and thread. It’s not fast, but it’s very relaxing.
For people looking for easy instruments - I also recommend ocarina and kalimba. The benefit of those also are that they are very portable; I can slip the ocarina in my pocket on a hike and serenade the trees ❤
I love dancing as well! It is a work out though. If the dance classes aren't working, try a game called Just Dance.

When it comes to sewing it's also important to know, that you need to buy fabric, and if you want to wear something of good quality it is VERY expensive. Especially since there is a possibility that you can always mess things up and end up wasting 2-3 meters of fabric because you've cut it wrong or because it doesn't fit and you don't know how to fix it.
