Wolfie doesn't sing as well as Mike. Part of what made Van Halen unique was the vocal harmonies, and Mike had a big part in creating that sound. That's a fact. If you want to rip on Mike, I can't stop you, but the biggest reason why Van Halen was a trainwreck for all those years is Ed being out of his mind on booze and drugs. That's not Mike's fault, or Sammy's fault, or anyone's fault but Ed's.
Mikey must've been so happy to finally have a chance at singing lead. I'd say Van Halen could've done pretty well with him as their fourth singer after Gary left.
A lineup with Michael Anthony front and center as lead vocalist & bassist and surrounded by the VH family (with Wolfgang on rhythm guitar, backing vocals) would’ve been great...

He's insecure about people not giving him enough credit as a guitarist, when he completely revolutionized the guitar (and everyone knows that) and he's insecure that people give Michael too much credit for VH backing vocals, which Mike totally deserves. Dude needs to enjoy his life.
Eddie was the lead vocalist before Dave joined, so he sounded great throughout along with Michael on background vocal. Nice to see Mr. Anthony have a chance to step into the limelight.
All these people saying Mike should have been the singer...Do some reading; learn the history. When the brothers recruited him to replace Mark Stone in 1973, he had been singing in his band, Snake. Upon discovering they already had a singer, his feeling was, "Great! Now I don't have to do all the singing anymore!" When he ended up harmonizing with (perhaps more like covering for) Dave on nearly every song, he thought, "Dammit! They've got me singing every song again!" The point is, he probably didn't mind doing it (and he would do Dusty Hill's parts in "Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers" while Dave took the Billy Gibbons vocals when they covered it live), but it's most likely Mike wouldn't have wanted to be the lead singer.
Just my opinion I think Eddie wanted to be around his son as long as he can. He needed Wolfie to watch him and keep him sober. I think Eddie knew he was sick. Just my opinion.

Eddie Van Halen in interviews has said he’s not a good bass player and this and that. My question to EVH is if he didn’t think MA was all that great in the first place, why would you have in the band? To me, don’t go around saying what a bad musician your band mate is when you’re the one who put him in there to begin with
Mikey can sing that much has been known, but it’s so weird hearing him sing in a lower register, I’m used to hearing his typical higher pitched background harmonics on the records! His high pitch chops are next fucking level, and go amazingly with Eddie’s accompanying backing vocals

Gary Cherone’s religion prevents him from singing about drinking, partying or sex. That’s why Michael Anthony sang Somebody get me a doctor, Sinners Swing, Finish What You Started, Poundcake and other VH party songs. Ultimately this would lead to the Van Halen brothers terminating him. This is why Extreme has no party songs, they only write “safe” love songs like More Than Words and Real Men Cry Real Tears.
As a Bass player lead vocalist/Tenor. Just like Mike, He was a Big contribute to Van Halen. And Eddie knew it that’s why he was picked up into the band. Mike has hardly got the credit he deserves. And regardless of what Eddie Van Halen said about him slamming him so I can get a son in there who do you have no experience like Mike did Mike was the man that band and no other. I've played guitar for 25 years. And it falls behind all the DLR albums (aside from maybe Diver Down), 5150, F.U.C.K. and Balance IMO... I enjoyed his playing on it...but it's far down the list for me.

I first heard about VH in HS. One of the hottest girls in school was in my art class and came in one morning telling everyone about this great new band, and how one track was so cool.....her name happened to be Jamie.
Mikey is so underrated. Eddie's diss was such an insult to the loyalist bass player ever. I used to play with an egotistical asshole. LoL I know just how it feels.
