I just wanna thank you, Marty. I get a little emotional when I watch you re-animate our beloved Eddie. You do him justice. Your tutorials are a fitting tribute to him. So, as follower, subscriber and student, I sincerely appreciate you, your talent and passion. I know there will never be another Eddie but, thank God for you....
Oh man, thanks Eric! I try my best and there will never be another Eddie for sure. I really appreciate the comment and kind words. Best of luck with guitar and I really am happy you find value in the videos. EVH forever man! 😎🙌

Excellent Song, one of my Favorites on VH II, next to Outta Love, Dance the Night Away, Bottoms up, Ok They are all good! . Thank you for the lesson! Hit that Like Button all.
What a good day! A Friday off and now I get to sit down... have nice cold one and watch Marty give us a GREAT lesson on Van Halen! ( one of my favorite songs too... I also love the solo for Loss of Control. You can just hear those planes dog fighting in that one heh heh heh )
WOW! You certainly keep on bringing it Marty! Thanks so very much! A Sunday afternoon session for me to clean up how I have been playing this AMAZING song. Appreciate YOU! Thanks so very much! Brian
Hey Marty. You may not see this comment, but if you do, these lessons are great! Your explanations and tabs are very helpful. I’m having such a great time playing along and improving at the same time! Keep it coming and thanks!
Thanks Marty for another awesome EVH Master piece break down. EVH FOREVER 🤟🤟 It's all the small details that made ED'S playing stand out among us mere mortals!!! Yeah Marty how about Take Your Whiskey Home Lesson? Thanks for sharing the love my brother 🙏
Thanks Ron! So happy you liked the video. I try to break stuff down in a comprehensive way. (How I would get it). Glad you liked it and also the channel. 😎🥂
Awesome tutorial as always Marty🎸🎸 It’s always interesting when you say how Eddie preferred or liked certain things. It really brings the tutorial together🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks Jackie! I am trying to bring a little personality and perspective into the lessons. I really appreciate your support and super nice comment man. Glad you enjoy the videos! 🥂
Marty very informative, as always you get into the weeds which is just as important as going thru each note. Love to get an explanation on your PC rig in the studio, monitors and any extras you could share it sounds great.
Thanks so much. I do get a little on the weeds lol. But that’s where the good stuff is (I think). Sure thing man. I will do a video on my setup. It’s pretty simple but effective. 😎🥂
Loving your stuff. You've really helped me, a bad guitar player, have some fun and actually learn a few VH licks. Never thought I'd be able to do it. Thank you. Working a lot on 5150 recently. Have watched the video over and over.
This is what was in the background of my teenage years. Van Halen, Dokken, Ozzy, Priest, Maiden, Sabbath and all those bands of similar style. When I hear one, it's almost like a time machine, every track has an exact memory it takes me back to. And as well as you teach/play them just makes me happy
Thank you Sir. The patience & details needed for this is much appreciated. I’m no guitar master but this lesson was on point. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺
Great job brotha as always!! After watching you on RUclips for a while I just realized your the Mary from Megadeth! LMAO I knew I liked you for a reason!! Keep up the Great work!! And I also agree 💯💯 percent with you that Edward was the GOAT 🤘🤘no one had the swagger, feel for the groove ,,mojo "whatever you wanna call it" like him!
After the three ”chuggs” on the intro riff doesn’t Eddie play a G on loose D and G strings then an A on the D and G strings second fret? Then isn’t the slide from D to E 5th to 7th fret on the A string?
You do a cracking job on the volume swells too Marty -the traction on the Frankie is obviously I lot quicker thank mine - as I use the Mad Hatter Terminator solderless system - which really very good , other than volume swells are a bit tricky at the speed Eddie did them !! . Love these videos - any chance you could do Light up the Sky please ??
Great channel, playing & sharing - I DO SEE Eddie live , playing the climb up E power chord (no F chord) then finally the S T R E T C H up to G. Ring fing stays on 7th fret. Cheers!
Marty repeatedly says he teaches you how he hears it, so I hope he’s not offended when I say this lesson is not without inaccuracies. Do your research everyone, watch Ed play it live. Repeating other people’s mistakes is on you.

Thank you for doing this song, good lesson and tone. I have a Peavey 5150 amp. Should I be driving the Pre-amp volume or the Post Gain volume to get the sweet distortion this and other tube amps are know for?
Hey man, thanks so much! It’s been so long since I’ve had the Peavey EVH. It’s a gain monster. Eddie didn’t use a tone of gain so I would start with a gritty tone and slightly begin to drive it more and more using both until you find it. The mids up a bit higher than normal. Not so scooped on EQ helps me too.
Another excellent lesson - thanks Marty - love your style .Great sound too . Interesting point you raise about the chord changes under the solo , do you think Eddie came up with those and then created a solo around them ? as it does seem a well structured solo . Just another example of the genius Eddie was.
Thank you Rich! I totally think Eddie came up with the chord structure. He was genius, but he had a formula and it worked. I think Al made this chord changes and modulations come to life. The groove over his solos was always next level. It really lifted the song so Eddie could shine even brighter! 😎🤟🏻
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker Hi Marty , thank you for the kind reply - I always have thought it was pretty incredible that as a young guy prior to VH1 he had so much material ready - that eventually found its way onto the first 6 album- how I'd love to know what he forgot !!!

Hey John! At this time I don't do lessons simply because I just don't have the time to squeeze it in. I would love to, but there's just not enough time in my schedule and that's no lie. Love your rabbit holes, especially when you theorize that Eddie liked certain chords and areas of the neck. Always thought when playing the E to F you chunked the bass E on the A string when playing the E And the F, kinda a F over E. Anyway, thanks for another great lesson, I miss Eddie too.
Thanks man! It’s possible it’s played that way? So many of these songs I’ve played for so long I may have adapted my technique. Lol. I have analyzed Eddie’s playing so much (as we all have) that’s what makes me go down these rabbit holes. 😂. My own theories. 🎵🎵
Hey man, thanks! Honestly.. I used a Fractal Ax8 with a Friedman BE patch. I think the secret sauce is I run stereo and use a stereo delay and reverb in Protools. I don't use any fx going in to the protools. Just a Friedman cabinet Ir loaded in the ax8.
@@fuheroes I typically keep my gain levels in the middle. Boost my mids to like 7-8. Bring the treble to 5. Bass 6. Set my amp with a little grit. Also.. did you know there is a hidden gain knob inside the be pedal? Take the back off. I recommend turning that gain knob down a little. To like 3-4. It's a small knob to twist. 🤟🏻

The verse chords aren’t E to F (chromatic), rather, the ascending chords retain “E” in the bass, adding to the tension. You can see him doing it live. Also, what version is this based on? The “breakdown” part really sounds like it’s missing a part (open pull off to g string perhaps?)
