@@BrettPapa Yes I know it would be and time consuming, however, you are one of the very few EVH masters that can teach extremely well. Thanks for all you do to help put an EVH smile on our faces!!! 🙏🏼
Thanks for braking this down. I had some trouble working out the details. I like your enthusiasm. Just did a build from a plain painted Strat body, and parts. Now I have a guitar I can keep down-tuned. It makes this much easier.
Great lesson Brett! Love the help with the nuances. Oh the things I've been missing over the years. I wore out this album with the "lift the needle, drop the needle, repeat over and over and over and then some!
Amazing analysis and your love of VH really shines through here! Really great attention to nuance and detail. Also, I like that you called out Eddie’s unusual tremolo picking technique. I call it “the hummingbird” because the continuous smooth motion and fixed yet floating position reminds me of a hummingbird. Lol. Thank you for this!
brett hands down this was the best lesson on this song which is my absolutely fav VH song thank you for this it made my day with this vid stayed up most of night practicing it thanks brother
got my Frankie from Sweetwater as soon as they came out and YOU are correct...plays and sounds killer.....DON'T know why it took you SO long to kick out these VH jams... Feel Your Love Tonite was one of your first VH lessons BUT you totally "da Man" Brett......luv ya brah!!!!!
Thanks! 74 JMP 50 watt Marshall, Boss 7 band EQ, Rockett Jeff Pedal (archer version), into a UA OX with a 412 cab sim. Touch of EQ in post and then also added reverb and a tape delay in post.
Bret? I bet it took you forever to diagnose this and figure it out. True? Great job. One of my favorite songs. Eddie was amazing, there will never be another one like him again. Thanks
@@BrettPapa I've got an Ibanez with Gravity Storm pickups in it, Steve Vie wanted his name on them. I really like them. Not sure if you have heard how they sound but, "wow", amazing. Now if I could just be able to play better. LOL
Thanks! 412 punch cab with a 57, 160, and stereo condenser. All with bass roll off. 57 3/4 up and the 160 1/2 way. Room to taste because the verb and delay were added in post.
I play the repeating lick a little differently. I keep my index and middle fingers in place and move my ring finger on and off the middle string so I can play the riff repeatedly without moving around all that much.
Hey Brett You Are So Right About That Guitar It For Is So Sweet I Just Bought About 2weeks Ago Used A 2021 With A Hardshell Case EVH for 1500 I So Love It I Want A Black and White Striped One Next An I Will Be Happy An Like You I Grew Up Listening To Van Halen An I’m 58 An Still Love This Day
Pretty close Brett love that guitar I want one but I like the Kramer from the 1984 Era via jump and Panama video. Your notes pretty close maybe a smidge fast from adrenaline. Eddie often imitated never duplicated. His sound was in his hands an unorthodoxed style of timing writing an feel. I'm still heartbroken over his passing. Keep Jamin Papa Love it and your channel I still want a ÷by13
Thank ya! If anything I had to slow it down a touch lol! It's pretty fast and I was barely hanging on haha. Can't go wrong with a Divided by they are world class amps!
Thanks so much for your advice and lesson on Rythym playing recently. Wow though I really feel terribly inadequate in my effort to improve. My desperation to be a serious player is mounting though. I didn’t start last night in my journey although I feel like it at times. Still working at close to 65 limits my time most days getting 2-4 hours of practice, but wow 12hrs for us merely mortal players would be almost impossible 🤔. But to make a huge improvement is it really rythym? Ok, I’m all in!
Hey!DONATED¡! All right! Nice job Brett sounded really good! Reminded me of Marty who owns Motor City guitar also a is a Eddie player. You guys got the tone perfect! Unfortunately Eddie didn't fall in my wheelhouse. I was about a decade or so before. Eddie was kinda like a Jeff Beck only higher energy. I guess whoever makes the most sounds on a guitar that sound Goodwin's?
@@BrettPapa Yay! Having my 4th and most serious Cervical Spine surgery on Tues Mar. 29th. I hope to be able to play correctly again but you know, No Guarantees!! Right now my left hand will not let the fingers "arch" over the strings so I have to just bar them across the neck and strings. Strange but at least I get to noodle! I love music so much man.
BRETT PAPA, can you make a video lesson only about EVH top 10 trademark Habits? I'm not sure what that scale is called that he uses often that is one fret behind the pentatonic box which its a composite scale but it has outside notes out of key notes
Dude, you're such a great player, and humble about it, but after hearing that scale on 21:02, I'm convinced that Eddie Van Halen was the Antichrist 😂🤯🎵
You finally got an EVH, congrats! I have the Bumblebee. The guy I bought it from had a Seymour Duncan 78" in it. He gave me the Wolgang too but I haven't tried putting it in yet. The pick slide combined with the regular slide is so key, Eddie does it so cleanly. Best pick slides ever. VH II came out the 23rd of March 79 so good timing on this one!
They are so awesome! That is hilarious on the date of the album I had no idea. One of my favorite VH albums. The playing is fantastic from top to bottom.
@@BrettPapa Yeah I mean, you can't really beat the first two albums, its a right of passage. I think most if not all of the songs from VH II were already written pre-1979 but Warner Bros. wanted to release two albums of course. The release date of 5150 is around this time of year too.
I never appreciated the complexity, and creativity of Van Halen's playing, until you broke it down so us mere mortals could understand it🤯
Yep he was the king!
My favorite solo that Ed ever played…So melodic and intense.
Yep one of mine too. Straight up fire!
Edward came to us from the heavens. Love it.
Yes he did!
O.M.G. You get better and better and better! My face is melting just watching the intro. God bless you and Eddie.

Hey Brett, do you use a particular pick/gauge for Van Halen stuff?
Not usually. I typically just use a thin or medium pick and 9-42's. All of Eddies real picks that I have are thin or mediums as well.
Nice buddy! You sure found the brown sound.
Thanks Brock!
Brett , is that a Headstock Tuner , and if so what brand? Thanks.
Yes. TC Electronics are my favorite headstock tuners. They are listed on my Sweetwater page in the description box. Most of the gear I use is.
I think he does the c note pull of to a from the riff twice!
Hey Brett, you rock thank you ! Did you tab it somewhere ?
