The heat seems to kill the displays really quickly. Escpecially in Australia, if you don't have one of those windshield reflectors up while parked in the sun, the screen fades terribly. Usually it will come back again after a few hours in the cool.
Similar...I asked the mb dealership to remove my B200 2011's instrument cluster to clean the inside of its plastic window but they said they couldn't do it! I like my car pristine so with this video I'm going to make the attempt. 🤗
Man, thanks for your patience. great job. Don't want to anoy you, but get a hold of some cheap mounts for your phone to show us you working your merc with two hands. Thanks. You can get those mounts for 1 - 2 usd and they are great for the money.
Very welcome tho I wish my "first video I ever made came out better in qaulity". I'm happy it can help you out as I to struggled with the screen during the day time.
Love the videos and knowledge. Just picked up a W203 and will definitely subscribe and keep watching on for more videos to help me with mine. Really need advice for wheel options and fitment to get mine on point.
I have a 2001 e320. It has 3 screens. The left is the ambient temp. It is completely dead. The right is digital clock and gear position. It is almost dead. The larger center is faded bad. Do you know if all three are hooked in the same way? I assume the cluster comes out the same as you showed.
Hello, nice video! I got a question, is it possible to upgrade this cluster with the digital one (w203 2005+)?? The thing is that the base of this cluster on the video is curvy, is there a way to handle it and upgrade it?
Thank you! This was my first video made. So i have improved some. It is possible but is a good amount of work. Plus you will need star/DAS to resink new cluster. A lot of work to most not worth the effort.
Thanks for the video. So if I just go get a while cluster at the junk yard will that work also? I heard of the cluster is not programed to the car the car won't start?? With any luck lol Can I just pay you to do this? What city you in?
Keep in mine these vehicles are 10 to 16yrs old. You wont have to worry about it for another 10yrs or more. It's worth it and needed to see your engine temp display on this model type
Yes they are comparable to the orginal but of course heavy heated enviroments degrade the lifespan of the lcd display. As the pixels are worn down by UV rays.
When I did this the SRS warning came on, however no fault codes are read ( Mercedes Shop ). I've read of this happening in other comments but never a sulotion
Hey, i also have a faded screen but mine popping up the malfunction by warmer weather.. and then it suddenly shows “display faulty” visit workshop, do you have any idea what that’s all about? Please help!!!
Internally the display tends to have failed solder points. Taking it apart to inspect it could help. Look for broken or loose solder connections also replace the screen
@@PANZERSGARAGE I mean that my mercedes w203 instrument cluster out of power .no lights no gauges . Check fuse number 42 .it is good .battery good . What will be possible issue ?
You DO NOT push down on the tabs to remove the LCD - that is the way LCD's are damaged on removal, as you cracked the one you took out!!! Just push the LCD upwards towards the top away from the tabs (while still flat in its original location). This will give you enough room to simply lift the LED panel out. It's no wonder I've seen other youtube videos where the person making the youtube clip breaks at least one, and at times both of the bottom locating tabs.
Not sure if you noticed, but the screen is toast so regardless it being cracked or damaged is not important. But good info to add just word it more informative than !!!!!! Your thoughts and suggestions.
Does anyone else have the instrument cluster that has rips and tears around both the edge of the tach and speedometer? At night, light leaks from behind because of the rips.
@@PANZERSGARAGE I’d appreciate it if you could email to me at JackEnrod@juno.com. The rubber around the LCD is also deteriorating with little white spots. My 2002 has less than 80K miles and lives in a garage. Mechanicals are bulletproof. Materials are crap.
That would be your LED back light which is separate from this LCD display. It can desolder due to heat and age but sometimes connect again when is touches. For the LCD Its best to replace and simple to do.
its most affects those in high climate tempatures. Most UK Euro areas dont see 106 degree climates, also Euro spec models have better build materials on some electronics and items

The shitest clusters you will find in a merc, believe me, it's a utter disgrace the mercedes clusters are giving such alot of problems, I owned cheap cars that never gave me any cluster problems. Merc c220, w202 Allegiance, and c180 111, giving me endless cluster problems.
A German learn from a American about his car. I call it gracefully. 🤣. Great videos you do... Very sympatic. Of course, you drive Mercedes. Thanks.
This is the BEST TUTORIAL I came across, I consider myself detail-oriented and followed Panzer step by step and executed this project
