    very informative video, i have a c230 coupe kompressor 2002 and my speedometer isnt picking up, everything else works, i see some movement on the arrow for the speed on the instrument cluster when i start the car, which gives me the idea that there is maybe a short somewhere in the SAM, i will work on it soon and come back with an update.
    i hope its just cleanable corrosion on the SAM...

    Everybody, clean out your rainwater drains regularly on any model benz, even if they are pampered and kept inside. I've had a 2005 CLK320 break down because of this, and the fact the prior owner lost the fuse panel cover and the water drain and redirection pan that sits directly above it, all of which are situated under the hood cowl vent. Also a 2005 C240, on which the plastic bulkhead that allows coolant to pass through the firewall, then further on through the heater core, disintegrated, which dumped coolant into the space between the cabin firewall, and the engine bay firewall, which happens to be right where the front SAM and the ECU and TCU live. I got lucky and realized what was happening when I looked down and it was over 300 deg F outside and I was going almost 150mph, which I was stopped and it isn't quite that hot in Texas...lol. I just unplugged the battery and removed those modules and cleaned them...

      That drain pan above the Fuze box is crucial. Also the Fuze box cover must be clamped down tight to keep the moisture out ,it also has a seal on it

      were you living on the planet 'Mars' at the time ? C'mon dude 300 deg F , and your still in 1 piece? and the local speed limit in Texas is permissible at 150 Mph ?? and the fed's just saw a fleeting cloud of dust wiz by, maybe i need to move to Texas too 🤔

    • @thebearofstars
      @thebearofstars 11 месяцев назад

      no dude... lol . the point was that those reading were not possible, and my ecu was neck deep in coolant at the time, but somehow it didn't ruin it.

      the 150mph and 300 F readings were noticed when i stopped at a stoplight, and the car was running funny... i was lucky that i noticed it and was able to turn the car off and unplug the battery relatively quickly. i do love a tall tale, but no c240 i know of would feasibly go that fast, but if you read the paragraph i wrote again, you will see that i stated that i was stopped at the time i noticed the erroneous readings.

    I find it a lot easier to number each plug with a paint marker before taking a high resolution picture of the plug layout. That way there's no questions as to what goes where.

    Would the peeled lip of cowling, for your car windshield, allow more than normal amount of moisture, in the area of SAM?. My right hand side headlights & signal lights begin to intermittently come off & later on. Would cleaning circuit, with a little bit of WD40, be better as it should be able to give a layer of protection against corrosion. Regards.

    Hello I have a question, none of my signal lights are working also my left headlamp isn't working. I think it's caused by a bad jumpstart where I accidentally put positive at negative :(. And so I changed the battery, but these are now my problems. I also can't find any fuse for my signal lights. I have a Mercedes viano w639 2006. Might the problem be with the sam unit?
    Thank you :)

    If the steering wheel is on the other side, it's not that easy...
    The rod for the windshield wiper is also too much in the way when cut open and you can't get the module out. No matter what you try.
    You can only let the windscreen wipers move vertically and then you're good to go. However, if this does not work as can be seen here and also unfortunately for me, as I had to find out, you are unlucky. Or can the windscreen wipers be raised externally somehow?

      Hi, check if any of the other light bulbs are blown

    • @thebearofstars
      @thebearofstars Год назад +3

      If the bulbs are all good, like the host here has suggested, try cleaning your ground wires. Find the bunches of brown ground wires, take the nut off the grounding post and remove the wires from said post. Clean off the corrosion, one by one, from the wire end connectors with a wire brush and or sand paper and treat them with battery terminal post protector. Do the same to the ground post, and the securing nut on the chassis side as well. If you want to be very very thorough, which I do advise doing, repeat this process for all the grounding points in the car. When these Benz's get to be as old as ours are (I have a 2007 CLK550, and a 2002 CLK430, which reminds me the 430 is a classic now! And so am I hehehe!) the corrosion is quite invasive and prevalent. Cleaning all the grounding points will also help keep the modules you currently have happy and cool, as bad ground wires increase resistance across the entire circuit as a whole, which causes heat buildup, and premature failure of expensive modules and electrical components, alternators, and batteries... Not to mention tow truck bills, headaches from being late to work or an upset friend/spouse/other etc etc... Sorry for the verbose reply but I hope it will help someone out somewhere sometime. Happy Benz-ing!

    about 2 weeks ago I trim off the cracked strip of rubber for the whole length of the cowling of 1.6m. There will be a gap of 5 from cowling to glass
    Remove wiper & clean the cowling & windshield and left it dry for 1 day.
    Then stick on rubber seal of 27mm width bought online. Key in google "Seametal 27mm rubber roof sealing tape" for less than USD3 for 2m length.
    Cut a short 6" length of sealing tape. Trim it correctly to fit the corner of the cowling to windshield. Use this as a testing strip. Peel the red strip from the 3M sticker to stick it. 😂😂😂
