Thanks for this, I just rescued my SAM with the help of this video, tail lights stayed on after pressing the brake pads, scan showed 20 error codes, so I pulled the SAM and it was full of water, the previous owner had wrapped the SAM with a plastic bag which made it even worse as the bag was filled with water. Water ingress was from the vent at the rear right side facing the bumper (apparently a known and recall issue), So right now I have a temp fix, had to pierce a hole in a rubber plug below the SAM unit, till I have time to drop the bumper and fix it properly, so should have no water in there for now as the water drains out just above the rear muffler to the ground, so will sort that out to avoid rust issues.........thanks again LM Auto Repairs!

A plastic bag can literally be a death sentence for your SAM especially after too much time has passed. It's incredible what some people try without completely thinking things through. Good luck in the future.

After cleaning the rear SAM do you coat it with any dielectric grease or anything to prevent future corrosion ? Wish we could all find a man like this to take the time and initiative to actually repair a car rather than just push us into buying an expensive replacement. Well done sir!

The owner of the car just told me that he called Mercedes and asked about their price for the repair, just out of curiosity. They asked for the chassis number and called him back 30 min later. They would have charged 600 EUR for a new SAM, plus 300 EUR for the exchange, plus taxes.
I do not want to bash Mercedes here. I understand that they have to charge as high as they do. I just hope they spend enough of that money in the R+D department and not give it to share holders only.

@@Spacecraft_Repair The water comes in through the gaskets of the rear lights. You can buy a set of new modified gaskets from Mercedes for the rear lights (I don't recall if this was already mentioned in the video above, sorry).
Apparently this solved the issue with the rain water leaking into this part of the chassis. Part numbers are: A1648261691

Did You cover both sides of this SAM PCB plate (same with front SAM) with poliurethane lack? Did You recover proper sealing of 2 blank caps rear left and right on top of D pillar (under outside plastic cover)? That causes this problem with humidity both sides in trunk under left and right panel lining and damages SAM because through this caps each ML has water leak to inside.

Hi, Thank you very much for this video. I've removed my rear SAM from a 2007 ML320CDI but have been unable to clean underneath the plastic towers. How did you remove them? I tried following the links in your description but they take you to an ebay page that says the item is sold out. If using a heat gun does that mean that they are melted in place with those black plastic pins that stick through the back of the board? If that is the case, how do you reattach once you've melted them off? What % alcohol did you use? I used CRC QD Electronics Cleaner and it's been less than perfect at removing everything.

Okay I found out myself. The sides of the black comnectors have clips on each side that need to be pressed in.. than press the first connector through the housing and continue to all have been done this way.... of course first the side clips must be pressed in to take the two pieces apart

Did you find the cause of the leak? I did the same thing to my GL several years back. Cleaned, reflowed, and reassembled. I did replace the taillight gasket at that time, but I did not see any signs of water intrusion. I am wondering if there is another source of water intrusion I have not found. I reached into the rear well where the sam is located, and it felt damp. I don't know where the water is coming from. I ended up sealing up the whole Sam unit into a gallon zip lock bag for peace of mind.

Hi, I have a 2008 Mercedes R-350 4matic and I'm having problems with my tailgate. Opens with remote, door button & tailgate handle, but doesn't close from none of this options not even from tailgate button. When I pressed any of this doesn't do nothing at all, no noise, or anything to let me know that its sending the signal. It's like if its death. The only thing it does it's that the tailgate button light its on.
The last time My tailgate stopped working, I pressed the close tailgate button, but door only closed halfway, then it open by itself all the way (like if there was sensing something on the way), then I tried to close it again, and it will come back to open position, but not all the way. So I keep pressing it a couple of times, I pressed one time, then I hold the button to see if would open all the way, then I keep pressing it a couple of times. This happens like 3 times, then it stopped. What I don't get it's why opens, but doesn't close.
I checked the tailgate lift control unit module inside board but looks like new. Then I also checked the rear sam board and looks like new too.
Do you think I unprogrammed it, and now needs to be reprogram?
Can you please help me to troubleshoot. Thank you.

      Not necessary... but advisable...
You most likely will need to get it coded to the car... unless you were lucky and that came from a car with the exactly same options as yours...

Do you have to clean under the plugs ? I mean when its just the corner of the board corroded thats why i dont looked under the plugs because there can't be water damage logically.

I’m having the same issues with my 2010 s550. The only thing that appears to work is the radio and the dash illuminates. I changed out both Sam Units, and my car still acts as if a battery is not hooked up to it for anything else to work. What do you think can be the issue?

I’ve got a c200 2005 Auto Diesel 3dr hatchback, engine wouldn’t start, I’ve changed the ecu, steering column module and key transponder.
The car is now running but I have esp light coming on, central locking not working, abs light coming on and all brake lights staying on.
I’m guessing that my faulty ecu has sent a corrupt signal down the can bus line to the rear SAM module and shorted some things out.
If you see my comment, I’d appreciate your opinion on my idea?

You need to scan the car to start with...

LM Auto Repairs ive scanned the car lots of fault codes from the front and rear SAM units, also the no communication code that you had, with the rear SAM unit, I have a B01055 and B01048 for the brake lights, that relate to the rear SAM unit and judging by your video the central locking is also controlled by the rear SAM unit the esp and abs, mileage could be to do with the instrument panel, needing syncing with the replacement ecu but it could also be related to the front SAM unit. Thanks for the reply, there are a lot of poorly shown RUclips videos, yours was the only one I found that was useful 😊👍.

    • @916hayabusa
      @916hayabusa 4 года назад +1

LM Auto Repairs the replacement ecu is causing a problem with the instrument cluster, I think because of the vin discrepancies but I think that my problem with the brake lights, central locking, lies with the rear SAM unit.

hi could you tell me wich pins on the sam ( named also n10/3) controls wipers on slk320 r170 ?
problèm is wipers don’t want to stop when i turn them on (constantly running need to turn off ignition to stop them )
and culprit is sam as when i remove sam to swap with an other sam all work good
i open the sam but is in very good condition with no corrosion at all so it is probably an invisible little scratch somewhere that is why i need to know wich pins are involved about control of wiper in order to check very carrefully

      Hi
Just with the soldering iron you gona struggle... as you need to heat several pins at the same time... preferably remove as much solder as you can... either with wick or with a desoldering station...

      @michalrobak3452 6 лет назад +1

      @@michalrobak3452
      Ah... lol
You need to start to heat all the pins... and then slowly start to pull on the other side... it can be tricky...
More times you heat more temperature you might need to remove them... so try to go for it and do it all at once...
I will might make a video showing how I do it....
