- Harrison Butker is responding after Serena Williams called him out at the 2024 ESPY Awards for his controversial commencement speech earlier this year. In a statement to NBC News, the NFL player says the tennis legend used the moment to “disinvite those with whom she disagrees with from supporting fellow athletes.” His comment comes after Serena, sister Venus Williams and actor Quinta Brunson spoke onstage and encouraged everyone to enjoy women’s sports as they would any other sports, with Serena adding, “except you, Harrison Butker. We don’t need you.”

I have always thought Serena was classless. Harrison on the other hand, full on class!!!
he is full of something it is not class. but then again that depends on what your definitions of that word is . because it could mean a different definitions for anyone. people have the right to express. their thoughts. name calling is classless.
Soul is more important than class and he seems to be lacking in that area. His speech was the opposite of classy.
So, all women want a career? Not true. Some do want to be homemakers. True, some want a career, but are needed as the care givers. It's not a perfect world and not everyone has millions of dollars to live thier life the way they want. Because you make more money, that doesn't mean you are right.
I would not leave my child to babysitter today. I was blessed to have very wonderful, protective child care when I needed it, but it seems the world has gotten unhealthy and I would constantly worry today.
I would have preferred to stay at home, but bills had to be paid and you have to comply.
I don't think he said anything wrong. He did not say 'all' women. What is wrong with...that some women go on to higher education in hopes to meet and marry thier significant other? Nothing. DON'T put all people in the same mold. Some will work, some will not. Just because you believe you want your life a certain way, doesn't mean everyone has to follow suit and also, life rarely turns out the way you thought it would be. Remember, he didn't say all women.
And, don't insult women and even men who choose to stay at home and be the stay at home care giver and are happy with thier choice. It's a honorable position.
He basically said a woman isn't whole unless she gets married and has a family. Nobody opposed to his viewpoint has said that women MUST have careers.You've deliberately twisted both arguments.

You missed the point. She put her career first. She didn't get married until she was 35 and she didn't have her first kid until she was 36. I'm not a tennis fan so I'm not sure at what age they usually retire, but it seems about the right age to retire. She did everything on her own terns and decided not to throw away a promising career in tennis to start a family. That's the whole point

Had 3 jobs, single mom and still think being a mom is the hardest and most rewarding job there is. Maybe think about what you say before you put down women. That's exactly what you just said. Sad
@@abryanish I don't think being a mother is the most rewarding job. I didn't have any kids nor do I want to have any kids. A lot of women don't. In Butker's speech, he congratulated everyone on graduating university but that the most important role for a woman is to be a mother. So these woman that graduated $80,000 in debt are supposed to forego their career to start pumping out kids. Women can do whatever they want. It's not 1952. Women can stay home and start a family or they can not. It's entirely up to them. But it should be a decision made between partners and not some over paid football player giving a speech at a graduation ceremony. Serena turned pro when she wad 14. She waited instead of retiring at 25 to start a family. She's not a hypocrite. She did things her own way, which is exactly the way it's supposed to be done.
