- I'm playing the Vodka Game, I've got to put these 10 glasses of vodka in order from cheap to expensive or else I drink The Punishment Drink...
People have been asking where to buy some of the bottles I use on the show, Here's a start:
bit.ly/H2D-Spirits-Vodka
At long last an episode all about vodka. They gave me ten glasses and put letters on them, I didn't know what was inside, I had to taste them and put them in order from cheap to expensive. And some of them were very cheap. None of them were VERY expensive. This episode was not fun to film. And the worst thing is, that if I don't score enough points in this game I've got to drink the Punishment Drink. I also do not know what's in that. I let everyone at the shoot with me put one ounce of anything they wanted in a glass together. This episode is going to be a doozy, so let's get it over with.
Slowly but surely, I'm starting a mailing list so that I'm not fully dependent on YT's algorithmized notifications system. If you'll sign up, I promise not to abuse your generosity, or sell your info to anyone. It's over on the blog right here:

Well. Now you have to make a palatable version of The Punishment, now that you know what's in it...
Tell me, have you tried Ukrainian vodka?
The everclear is priced wrong if you dilute it to 1/2 the strength it should be 1/2 the price.
Still less dangerous than the Toshiki Drinking Game.
Maybe the Bourbon Game is in the future?

Yes.
I wish they'd kept it for the scoring thing. I found it hard to track without that specific form of key.
Blink twice next episode if you're being held captive
I can't imagine a more unfair game.
Everclear is a complete curveball same with the Stoli
Grey Goose is expensive af. But is basically just Gary's Good Vodka with better marketing.
Fucking respect for scoring 80/100.
As soon as he said it’s sweet, to cover up the acetone I knew it was grey goose
he needs to cut the bs and do his damn show ....
@@robertbrindle8901 this is the show lmao what are you talking about he can do what he wants
I mean, if it has half the vodka it should count as half the price
@@0Clewi0 your drunk man go home.
since everclear was mixed with half water, they should have halfed the price point since its effectively twice as much volume, making it the cheapest
I agree they should've lowered the price point since it was diluted, but the cheapest one was 7 dollars, half of 17 is 9 rounded up.
I thought so too, but at one point during the video they said the price for the bottle was $35.
@@Dextline Everclear is not $35/bottle
Depends on what state you're in. In SC Liquor Laws and Taxes are Outrageous.
What kind of water did they add to Everclear?? If it wasn't distilled water then it doesn't count. It's contaminated with whatever is in tap water or even bottled water. It's 95% ethyl alcohol. I doubt the remaining 5% gives it much taste but I could be wrong. Got to try a blind test of this idea against Titos

He didn’t die, or he didn’t love it?

C'mon he is inmune to alcohol
fishflake1209 yes
This should be a regular game on the show. Gin, scotch, rum, brandy, Irish whiskeys,...let’s be honest there are a ton
He already tasted and ranked Irish whiskeys.
Colin A but not in the blind taste test “game style” with punishment. Let’s be honest, we all want to see what messed up stuff they can do to a drink. Jager, grenadine, gin, & plumb wine...🤮

Russian standard Platinum. Goes down pleasantly and has the loveliest vanilla finish. Thats good vodka. Beluga comes in at a close 2nd, but if you want to take out a loan to import a bottle, be my guest. The 3rd best on my list is Kalashnikov, though drinking his vodka while firing this gun is not advisable.

The editing and effects made this episode really pleasing to watch. Great job!
This video proved true exactly what I learned in college.
1. Everclear is the choice for making "Jungle Juice" where you're mixing it with 100 other things.
2. A cheap bottle of charcoal filtered vodka like Laird's is perfect for cocktails.
3. Tito's is the best if you're drinking it straight.
Titos with soda is amazing however
yeah, you do not want to pay much for vodka.
hell, many of the bartenders I've talked to swear by Koskenkorva (38abv finlandia with some added sugar iirc which is also the one step above absolute trash bränvin [or "viina", a term that is generally seen as more lowbrow drink than vodka. there are some legal things between the two though most viina counts as vodka under EU law]) over absolute, let alone any of the """good stuff""" even when they would make more money using the on the wall booze over well
@@fish3977 I've always wondered what vodka I should use for cocktails
I've been using titos for years thou
Man I had titos right when it became popular and it was rough when compared to russian standard and stoli. Dont know if they've gotten better but I havent bought it in a few years now
@@killking72 Well, the best choice is always what you prefer, but, generally, Tito's is the best for most peoples tastes. Don't feel pressured to drink anything you don't care for. Besides, It's expensive as shit outside of Texas. Well, from what I've heard anyways.

Absolut is my favorite, definitely
Why would you not have Smirnoff as one of the 10? cheapest out there and takes everyone by suprise in blind taste tests
Is Smirnoff really that indistinguishable?
because it takes everyone by suprise lol I was disappointed
Kirkland > Smirnoff
@@johnandrewserranogarcia7223 Kirkland is the same vodka as Goose, different bottle.
@@patrickgosciola, Different Price too. LOL
The editing in this is just fantastic! It is so easy to follow.
Tito's: always hits well above it's price weight. Never change Tito's.
Colin Olsen never change, Tito’s? Or never change Tito’s? Or both?
Currently drinking a highball glass full of Tito's on the rocks with a squirt of lemon juice and two dashes of Tabasco (the liquor store ran out of handles of bourbon) . I call it my Quarantine Special and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite drinks. It's possible I've gone mad in isolation but I swear this is really good.
Fucking love Tito's. It tastes like heat, that's how you know it's good. Good vodka should taste hot and nothing else.
Funny enough, Titos is just corn ethanol, they purchase it from an industrial supplier at 95%, then water it down and redistill it so they can say they "made" it, and then they bottle and sell it.
As far as price/performance goes, it's just about the cheapest way to make a neutral spirit, and, because they're buying really good source ethanol (the industrial distilling process is very, very good) the product is just about as good of a 'vodka' as you can make.
I work at the biggest liquor store chain in The Netherlands and the management pulled Tito's off the shelf. Very sad.
"I need these electric-lytes"
I laughed a long time at that.
Ifor Bach 😂😂😂
Ahringe Electriclights

Loved that you shouted out GMM for the idea. They have inspired so many other youtubers to make episodes and series based off of their games, but I haven't seen anyone give them credit like you have. Hope to see you on their show one day!
Subbed for this well done taste test/price point check. Tito wins in my observation pretty frequently, it was good to see that it holds up under a blind test.
Follow up: had a half a second where I was convinced Greg was washing down vodka with more vodka.
You can see the drunken “face sloop” start to happen about half way through the video
This was a fun episode! I'd love to see more games like this one for various types of spirits, maybe even different types of beer some day... And I'd watch the heck out of your GMM episode.
Please always format those episodes discussing various brands as blind sampling! This was so much more informative than watching you speak to the history (which I love) and being led by the same marketing that we all are. However, as an absolute and Titos drinker. I feel like I had a win too so the game aspect is totally fun. I've been watching hit or miss for a bit now, but now I have liked, subscribed, rang the bell, and am heading over to patreon. Well done! Also shout out to whoever does the caption and jokes on screen - grade A kibitzing. And shout out to all the commenters before me, yall are hilarious - the best youtube community I've seen so far.
Week 50 of self-isolation:
Blindness test and rank 10 illicit moonshines.
You won't go blind as long as the federal government didn't poison it before you got to it. Moonshine methanol contamination was just propaganda. Not to say moonshine can't be contaminated by other means, just that said contamination doesn't instantly kill you. Typically it's lead contamination that you have to worry about, from the cheap solder and materials used to build the stills. Not really a problem nowadays, as the folks making moonshine tend to avoid that kinda thing, and it doesn't save much money to use dangerous materials.
It bothers me that they did price per bottle rather than price per ounce. There’s twice as much Tito’s than Gary’s so really per ounce Tito’s was cheaper.
Oooh that's a REALLY good point! You could take a tiny airplane bottle of the best vodka in the world and a barrel of the cheapest shit and create a totally unfair comparison.
750ml of Titos is $20 in Michigan, I think they are doing of a 750ml size.
Yep price per bottle makes zero sense
Would also be nice to see a more premium vodka like beluga or imperia in the test. Surprisingly few Eastern European brands there... Only stoli as far as I see?
Almost didnt catch that I've had alot if water
Nice job on the taste testing! And you know, if you consider that the Everclear was cut almost 50/50 with water, its price should be considered about half of what you listed it as.
This was the first video on your channel that I watched, I've watched almost every single one since. Thought it would be nice to come back and rewatch it
You don't have any other episodes like this... yet! Great new "game" format, enjoyed it just as much as the usual shows. Nice job Greg.
Loved this episode Greg!
Honestly I would love to see an episode like this for other spirits!
Tequila game!
Chase Housley definitely bourbons
Scotch Game!!!
this is awesome! I'm a bartender who works at a tasting room attached to a vodka & gin distillery (there'll be whisky just not yet...). I fancy my chances at this but I definitely sample a lot of new make spirits and know how difficult this would be. very cool!
glad to have stumbled upon this channel during a pretty dull period of isolation and no work. ya just made my day better :) cheers from Canada eh bud!
My favorite video you've made. I'd love to see you do the same with other spirits such as rum and tequila
I would love to see an episode like this with Bourbons $50 or less! No outliers, just mainline offerings that are easy to find.
Spanky D Agree, but I’d allow up to say $60-75, because it’s over $50 that you find a significant change to much better bourbons.
@@TriMarkC For a test like that, you don't want "much better bourbons" you want to tighten the spread and examine what a distillery can do with a severe price limitation. Recall, federal tax and state tax take up most of the price of a well bourbon, so with a slim margin, there's only so much room for quality.
Also, most of that quality difference is going to come down to distilling process, ie how much of a run makes it into a bottle, and, how long it stays on oak. Case in point, Jim Beam white is the same distillery/mashbill as Knob Creek, Bookers, and Bakers, all of which are much nicer and very, very different than Jim beam white.

Vodka strikes again
This was so well made. More of these please!!!
please turn part of this channel into explaining and exploring various alcohols and productions.
you're explanatory stuff is so good.
Reminder that the legal definition of vodka is a “colorless, odorless, flavorless” spirit
Correct
The "American" definition of vodka other countries and even some american companies (buffalo trace) finished their vodka with diff flavors.....
@@erikgonzalez1762 You should read up on the European Union definition of Vodka. It's functionally identical and certainly stresses that Vodka must have no predominant flavour. There is also a separate definition for Flavoured Vodka.
Even if they all tasted the same out of the still, the water they proof the vodka with will itself have a taste.
@@Quintinohthree Well that's not completely true. The EU definition stresses that "Swedish Vodka" should have faint but noticeable character of grain or potatoes that differentiates it from completely neutral alcohol. That's the PGI that's relevant for Absolut.
PGI-SE-01926 if you want to look it up, but it's in Swedish.
"Mister J." is what Harley Quinn calls The Joker. Maybe that's what he was thinking about?
that’s exactly what i thought of when he said it
I used to watch America's Top Model when it was first on. There was a Miss Jay, which was the runway coach. And then there was Mr. Jay, who was the creative director and directed most of the photo shoots, etc.
Can't believe USA has a bottle with a handle, that is more expensive, than the Absolut, which is being sold as a semi-highend vodka in Danish clubs
Great episode. Would love to see more like this but with other drinks!
This needs to be done again but everything put in the right order and see how much you change it

Hello Greg love your show. I have never worked in a bar, but somehow ended up becoming the designated bartender for my friends cause i make some tasty mixed drinks. I love watching your show it gives me inspiration. I was wondering if you could do more DND cocktails.
Is the everclear's price adjusted for having half water? Was it 34 and cut to 17 or 17 and forgotten to be cut to 8.5
I believe they didn't account for it being diluted. Really should have been 8.5. And more points to Greg. Samt thing with the Stoli.
It's about $14.99 for a 5th in Ohio, so not adjusted
The 151 version....the 190 proof version isn't sold here, but 151 proof cut by water 50% would be 75.5 proof, so I assume that's what he was using, since it is close to the standard 80 proof vodka

It's a pretty central thing in the game, referred as "the Old Blood", which you DO get an option to drink at the end of a big quest.
A bit of deep lore refers to it having a metallic taste and giving immortality.

Welp, liquor stores in my state are essential. So I can go down to it anytime in spite of the stay home order.
Back in the first quarantine, this video was an awesome birthday gift. Thank you! :)
You are very talented you mean the world to me and every episode you make makes me happy I don't have a lot but you give me hope.
I wouldn't mind an episode with other spirits and the same concept.
Always a fan!
Would love to see how you'd rank Finlandia on this... I would never claim to be professional when it comes to proper palet tasting but one thing I know is Finlandia has zero odor and slim to no residual aftertaste other than a cool clear smiley feel... Also cheaper than most running around $22 CA.
From doing multiple blind taste tests of bourbon, gin, vodka, etc, I know well that 5 samples is really the limit for most people's tongues. It just gets numbed after 4 or 5 and your senses are skewed, whether you swallow or not. Would also love to see New Amsterdam (a cheapy but GREAT, gin or vodka) added into one of these taste tests.

NotOnLand Wheatley is made at the Buffalo Trace distillery in Kentucky. I got to try it when I was there. I was really there for the bourbon obviously but I liked it. Didn’t have any other vodkas available to taste it against. I’m not a vodka guy by any means but good to know that it holds up.

I've been choosing Tito's for the last few years. It's a fairly inexpensive brand but it's as smooth as can be, and finishes sweet like an after-dinner mint.
You can drink it straight from the shot glass and not make the vodka face. Good stuff.
The line's missing Russian Standard. Nice job as always though.
Russian Standard was the first Vodka I ever bought from a liquor store. It was actually pretty damn smooth.

Was the everclear price divided by 2 because of the dilution?
I made the argument that it should be! I was sadly overruled by the crew here. I maintain I put that exactly where it belonged
Agree. It should be second cheapest. You need to "learn" your colleagues some "maths".
Ya that's bad math! Judging by the prices of the big bottles it looked like you normalized everything for ~750mL. If you double the volume of the everclear, for free, you have to half the price. Your crew should have to drink the concoction as punishment for cheating.
You are at 84 in my book :)
