When I was in Japan, the Final Fantasy XIV Eorzea cafe had a "Dark Knight" drink. My reaction was pretty much what yours was to that Malibu Pineapple abomination, although yours sounds more vile for sure.
I almost forgot about the balsamic soda! 😆 I DO make balsamic sodas like that as a diet-friendly soda, but (a) use ANYTHING other than La Crotch, and (b) don't use anywhere near that much vinegar. With just a dash of some of the fruit-flavored finishing vinegars, it's actually quite nice!
I regularly make flavored water out of apple cider vinegar and / or green onions, but skip the carbonation. Carbonated water to me always tastes disgusting regardless of the brand. Likewise, hard seltzer.
My takeaway from this is to avoid spirit-forward cocktails made with inferior spirits, anything with large amounts of Tabasco sauce, and anything with ingredients picked to fit an acronym (especially if the acronym is longer than 5 letters.)
Yeah, if I were to make a Midori margarita, I'd interpret it the same way where you're swapping Midori in for the triple sec... However, if you swapped the Midori in for the tequila and kept the triple sec, it's basically a Japanese Slipper which is a perfectly serviceable (not great, but serviceable) cocktail...
I came up with a pretty rough recipe a few weeks ago that might be a competitor here: 2 oz Erguotou, 6 oz Mountain Dew Spark, 2 dashes lavender bitters.
Not counting oyster shots, the worst drink I've seen someone make is an *Un*comfortably Numb: One bar spoon of simple syrup. 3 oz of Southern Comfort. 1 oz of tequila. 1 oz of Jagermeister. 1 tablespoon of Nyquil. A splash of bitters. Sprinkle in a packet of aspirin powder. Garnish with a sprig of rubbed mint and a maraschino cherry sharing a toothpick. No ice. Stir with the mint and cherry facing downward. Bonus points for using it to wash down a Benadryl. Now you're ready to give up on this crappy day! Go to bed. (Gotta love my fam. I suspect my aunt invented this one. She certainly ended a few nights with them.)
It's strangely comforting to know that I'm not the only one with unorthodox grandparents and family in general! Thanks for sharing, mate! Have a great week!
Hey Greg, my friends and I are from Mississippi and we love your show. There is a local distillery called Cathead that makes a honeysuckle vodka that you might like. They're a pretty big company here but it's hard to find their stuff online. My friend who ate a lot of acid back in the hippie days invented a new cocktail, inspired by your show - a watermelon vodka martini made with pickle juice. They call it Mississippi Piss, and I've tried one. It is unique among flavors.
The Healthy Coke recipe is interesting, because as you also mention, it is almost posca, which might be the first soda-like drink invented and consumed. It is true that that tastes of balsamic vinegar, but made with a good quality vinegar and honey, it can be very refreshing on a hot summer day. Basically, it's lemonade before lemonade itself was able to have been invented (due to necessity of lemons).
I don't know how you would approach this, but I would love to see your interpretation of drinks based on Lord of the Rings. Either drinks actually featured or new drinks based off the characters :)
: I think this is a great idea, specially with the monstrous catalogue of HTD and the fact that most people - I assume - aren't familiar with the several iterations of the show. Throwback Tuesday is already a thing, so the scheduling is also apropos.
The thing about the healthy coke idea..... I know that I've seen a few more fruity vinegars, especially here in Korea, like a plum vinegar, that you can mix up with seltzer or carbonated water or even just regular flat water, and just drink if you want a sweet tooth. So there is some truth to using vinegar like that, but if you're going to use balsamic vinegar, you really need to use the Good Stuff, because the cheap market balsamic is all tart and no sweetness to me.
23:43 is Greg's impression of R2D2 being hit with the Jawa blaster in Star Wars: A New Hope. Congratulations, Greg. I thought you had to be a droid to make those sounds.
I love that 2 of these are actually honest attempts at a drink (I guess the mojito is sort of a 3rd but unclear if Bacardi intended that to be used regular cocktails). Honest tries/actual orders gone horribly wrong are so much more fun than intentional cursed cocktails.
OMG i was laughing so hard on your reaction to that tapeworm thing i started choking! i had to pause the vid to get back under control enough to see the rest.
Greg has an uncanny (and dare I say, supernatural) way of knowing what drinks taste like without having ever tasted the thing he's comparing the drink to.
Had someone order a cosmopolitan with creme de menthe, and I genuinely gagged while mixing it. Though... that pineapple old fashioned does look vile. What makes these worse is that they're genuine drinks with just replacements of liquor. They're not something like horse j*zz (milk & beer) or a smoker's cough (Jagermeister & mayonnaise) which are designed to be hateful.
Cursed cocktail and Customer Always Wrong are the best episodes. Perhaps do the “dude, give you a dollar” challenge to other drinks YT channels like an episode of Hot Ones

Re: the Yoga-Coka - A while ago I was introduced to balsamic *reduction* with soda/sparkling water, and while that still isn’t Coke, it’s much better than just vinegar. The reduction’s had time to get sweeter and more concentrated, so it acts much more like a regular soda syrup.

I came up with a pretty rough recipe a few weeks ago that might be a competitor here: 2 oz Erguotou, 6 oz Mountain Dew Spark, 2 dashes lavender bitters.
I love it when the flavor profile text argues with Greg, "Language! Read it again." Good stuff as always!
They shoulda called it Pississippi!
Greg is yelling about mint surprise and the end video add pops up for Mint Mobile! Lol perfect add placement RUclips, good job.
The color out of space comment made me laugh good. "It's just a taste, but it buuuuuuurns." HAHA :D
i think you should try making "The Bloody Awful" from Top Gear. I'd like to see someone attempt to give tasting notes for something like that.
He's like dumbledore drinking that cursed water in half blood prince
I don't know how you would approach this, but I would love to see your interpretation of drinks based on Lord of the Rings. Either drinks actually featured or new drinks based off the characters :)
He did make Ent Draught
: I think this is a great idea, specially with the monstrous catalogue of HTD and the fact that most people - I assume - aren't familiar with the several iterations of the show. Throwback Tuesday is already a thing, so the scheduling is also apropos.
So very curious to know if your stomach has ever rejected whatever garbage you've sadly had to drink and just immediately barfed.
He almost made himself sick when he made Smoker's Cough.
42:13 of How NOT to drink... And yet I was still entertained... So I won't ask for my money back...
"and I'm the drunker or it" is such a great summary for all these lol
I am never going to get tired of seeing the Malibu Pineapple Old Fashioned, A.K.A. the Flavor Out of Space.
3:06 ah, my favourite drink, “media offline”
I love that 2 of these are actually honest attempts at a drink (I guess the mojito is sort of a 3rd but unclear if Bacardi intended that to be used regular cocktails). Honest tries/actual orders gone horribly wrong are so much more fun than intentional cursed cocktails.
Kind of want to see someone make a montage of just the reaction parts of this
took me until the leisure suit showed up to realize this is a GODDAM CLIP SHOW GREG
Just started the episode. There better be some doc venture concoctions in here lol.
:( Sadly those original files are lost to time
@@howtodrink You just gotta make another episode, then!
@@howtodrink o no!!!! That's too bad. I loved those, mostly because I just loved The Venture Brothers. Cheers!!
Btw.. always love the music you overlay for the show... classy and classic
I'm extremely conflicted between hating clip episodes and loving seeing greg drinking horrible stuff
You know its a horrific drink when Greg tosses and smashes his glasswear 1:46 after drinking it. xD
Pineapple Malort old fashioned anyone? And by that I mean infusing pineapple into Malort.
Went into a whole ancient curse monologue about that pineapple old fashioned 😂
Had someone order a cosmopolitan with creme de menthe, and I genuinely gagged while mixing it. Though... that pineapple old fashioned does look vile. What makes these worse is that they're genuine drinks with just replacements of liquor. They're not something like horse j*zz (milk & beer) or a smoker's cough (Jagermeister & mayonnaise) which are designed to be hateful.
Cursed cocktail and Customer Always Wrong are the best episodes. Perhaps do the “dude, give you a dollar” challenge to other drinks YT channels like an episode of Hot Ones
If you start to run out of ideas, or have the time to put it together...it would be pretty cool to see a bloopers reel lol, just a bunch of cut footage over the years edited together into an episode
Not out of ideas, just gonna start running "B-Side" type secondary episodes on thursdays alongside A-Side content on Tuesdays
@@howtodrink I'm sorry Greg, I didn't mean it suggesting you were out of ideas. I enjoy them all, I guess I was suggesting that if you find yourself brainstorming I think this could be pretty entertaining
The Midori Margarita episode is so great because he went in expecting it to be good (while as all the other drinks he fully expected them to be not good).
I'm sorry for your suffering, thank you for the delicious pain
When the Eldermancy wasn't even halfway through, you know you've seen some shit.
So this is just a supercut of the shitiest drinks?
5:58
"There it is. The icy embrace of the v o i d. _perfect."_
You should do more episodes of customer orders. I love the windows into the souls of madmen that it gives us.
My favourite part is when he first sips the Eldermancy (18:14) and you can see him go through all 5 stages of grief in the span of 15 seconds.
When I saw this video uploaded all I could think about what you slapping that glass off the bar after the Infected Whitehead and I'm so happy that was the first one hahaha
0:55 Is that two shot drink on the left a cement mixer? Also, why didn’t you address a cement mixer?
"Equal parts tabasco" was the most horrified I have ever been in my life
"It is, I would say small comfort, it is no comfort at all to know that some portion of my brain cells were destroyed in the process of drinking that, and in maybe some way will contribute to my not remembering the experience."
- A strong contender for new Southern Comfort tagline
Crawling madness 🤣🤣🤣
Also can you please bring back the bad cocktail orders from the Pineapple Malibu Old Fashioned part?
would love to see a video of you trying unusual alcohol from diffrent countries, honestly i just want to see you try Buckfast from the uk.
I'm only the title drop and already uncomfortable with the things going in those drinks. Well done!
I love how one of the chapters is called "anything from the drink machines" which officially makes bashing those poorly made robots a trilogy
This is a much needed comic relief. Thanks
I suggest a compilation of all Midori-inclusive drinks.
