This was hilarious - especially with the Patreon supplement - but I agree with others that it could be time to go back to serious episodes. Revisiting some classic cocktails from very old episodes and more histories would both be cool. I'd also be interested in some serious recipe development episodes - it's always interesting to hear you talk through the process of coming up with a drink.
That TGI Fridays goo, when ever you pulled it out, just read as a similar "creamsicle" style drink mix that I've seen and had, which never instructed to just serve over ice; Rather, it was intended to be blended with ice to make a very thick slush of sorts, and I suspect the considerable dilution that would come from that, as well as the aeration would do at least SOMETHING to tame that.
I'd be interested in seeing Real Cocktail versions of the various oddities from the Cooler of Doom. So like an actual creamsicle cocktail, actual versions of the twisted shooters (save the cups from them even?), and like the chocolate Buzz Ball. That is, if you ever wanted to do anything with these things again. I like the formula of "here's weird thing, now I make good thing" in general.
I’m sure someone has mentioned this already, but orange wine isn’t an orange spirit, it’s a white wine made in the style of a red (fermented on the skins). They can be quite good, but often rather sweet/fruit forward.
Orange wine in this case is OTSO, other than standard orange wine. It's a neutral spirit made from orange peels that's been processed and filtered. That and citrus neutral spirits are used in the cream base. The creamy ones are made from one cream base that's shipped from NY and mixed with flavor by BuzzBallz.
I have a close friend who really appreciates well crafted cocktails. One night, we were out at Midnight Cowboy in Austin, TX pre-pandemic and I had shared that he should really watch your channel because you're awesome. He recently remembered that we had that conversation, but forgot the specifics and reached out to me and asked "hey what was that drinking RUclips channel you mentioned again?" and I replied: "It's called How To Drink and the guy's name is Greg and he looks like a Lego lumberjack figure brought to life."
Meredith I am so glad you're so much more a part of this show cuz man this is awesome to watch so I encourage you to do it more please when he runs out of ideas you're in charge
Quick note on the orange wine: the orange wine that Meredith is describing is a specially made grape wine. That being said, you can buy a wine made from oranges in parts of Spain, mostly Valencia. Hard to get otherwise. I had it once and greatly regret not taking a picture of the bottle.
Think this is one of my favorite episodes. Great job Greg and Meredith! Also if you're running out of ideas for episodes, may I pitch one for you? Have people, maybe in the comments, on Twitch chat, or in a Patreon post, make up a name for a cocktail. Then you have to make a drink that fits the name. I think it'd be a lot of fun.
I googled Orange Dream and saw that yes, it's "Just add ice" but I think Greg missed "and blend." The serving is "Just add ice and blend" which would help the "syrup" quality...a little bit.
Big fan of Greg and the show. Miss the great tasting and classic cocktails. Also love when you do the histories of beverages and/or ingredients. Small hint of it in this with the use of the strainer.
The Buzzballz Chillers are made with "orange wine" which “is neutral in taste and smells similar to vodka.” according to the company. Regular buzzballz are made with vodka. although it seems like the tequila'rita has real tequila and triple sec in it
I'd love a video on various 3 bottle or 4 bottle bar starter sets! almost like a choose your own adventure. Select one and show off all that you can make from it, then in another episode do another. Love the show man! You're absolutely my favourite channel.
If you’re looking for ideas… maybe all the different drinks from lord of the rings (orc healing potion, elven wine, hobbit drinks). Greg could probably have fun with that. Other drinks include portal fluid from ric and Morty, blue glow from Fortnite STW, literally any of the drinks from lower decks, drinks from the Thor movies. I know you’re into dnd so it might be fun to make some the drinks from dimension 20. Namely, the expensive elaborate drink from misfits and magic episode 4 but there are others, might even be worth getting another cameo from Brennan or maybe have the bartender from dirty laundry). It’s fun to watch you try these bad things but it’s also fun to watch you take these fantastical things and make them real. All the best!
Joining in the requests for the return of the "actually good" drinks videos :) I miss the days when I could go to HTD for new cool recipes once in a while. Even if it's all original creations, even better! Also how have you never heard of orange wine before!? It's been pretty much the no.1 trendy think to drink around me for the last couple of years.
"Smirlent Green" made me laugh hard out loud, which my co-workers were quite amused by. Something tells me Greg will have some fresh ideas to avoid doing this again.
Hey Greg! One of my favorite series you did was the Game of Thrones series for Season 8 (ugh), and it would be fun to do drinks for new series that are out, like House of the Dragon, Andor, Rings of Power, etc. It was really fun to see you create combinations and recipes based on the themes and hear your thoughts and opinions about the shows. Or, you could revisit Sex on the Beach. Ben Bentley would love that.
Good job! Cocktail making challenges are always neat, learning something about flavors and such. Maybe do one with normal ingredients, like a fruit challenge?
Well as a distraction from this absolute lovely episode and watching Greg slowly get more drunk as the episode goes on, I found a simple gin and tonic that ended up super good. You gotta get empress gin, some elderflower tonic water, and make whatever kind of simple syrup you think will go good with it (probably floral) and it turned out super good! Not to mention with the whole color change, can be a fun party trick drink!
Idk if these longer episodes are for everybody but honestly I absolutely love being able to sit down for a while and watch something like this. Even if I can't watch it all at once I like being able to come back to it later too
So orange wine was new to me too - it is not made with oranges - it's white wine made in a huge vat with the skins and seeds still in contact with the juice (and if I had to bet, probably some stems, too), so basically lazy industrial wine - or to put a positive spin on it, wine that uses all of the grape 👍
It’s not necessarily ‘lazy industrial’ wine, it’s actually very rural and indeed becoming more well known these days. So specifically it’s white wine made from WHITE grapes with the skins still in, otherwise one would get red wine.I doubt however that’s what’s in Greg’s drink, that is probably actual orange ‘wine’, like a mead but with oranges rather than honey. Cheers! :)
Yeah, I'd never thought of doing that, but while decent pickling cucumbers are still around, I may well knock up a jar or two and see what they're like.
Hey, you kind of touched on it with the Orange Wine in the buzz balls, but there is a whole world of “fermented spirits” that could be interesting to try out. The brand that I’ve seen is Premium Blend. They’re liquor substitutes that allow restaurants to serve cocktails without a liquor license because they are considered wine. Would be interesting to see what you could do with them.
SO nice to hear "I can't stand a dirty martini." They taste like truly foul dishwater to me, where a "clean" martini is vibrant, bright, and refreshing. I haven't had one in years, but i remember the Smirnoff black raspberry - before they called them "Ice?" - being pretty good on a hot day.
I would love a series of videos based on drinks you can make with that random bottle you bought. For instance if you bough a bottle of Luxardo maraschino... what are all the cool drinks you can make with it? DeKuyper peach tree? Who knows... Its a party.
I hate to even make the request because I don't want to punish you but.... more cooler of doom episodes please!!! I have seen so many of these items at the liquor store and been curious but scared and absolutely loved this. I think this would make an awesome recurring segment/series!!!
Ehh. If you're literally out of ideas; I'd personally still want a taste-test of making common drinks from good quality ingredients vs cheap quality vs "light" ingredients vs "just make it from scratch and add as much sugar as you want to". I've found some very nice low-sugar (&no sweetners) drinks... but I also have some friends who claim that cheap alcohol + cheap mixer tastes exactly same as expensive alcohol + expensive mixer... Rum&coke, Gin&tonic, Mojito, etc.
You may like the mixing spoons with the flattened end for layering drinks. Fast pour down the spiral of the spoon, it hits the flattened end and you get a perfect layer.
Hey Greg! Love the channel. The thing about the last string of videos though is that they seem to be a guide for “how NOT to drink” rather than how to drink. While it’s funny to have an occasional, “these are really bad drinks” video, I also think that there are only so many versions of that concept you can pull before it becomes very samey-samey. Just my own thought there.
This. Love the channel, but it's the kind of concept that after a while becomes repetitive, especially if one isn't interested to the canned/bottled stuff topic. I'd rather see an episode trying particularly interesting soft drinks, but I'm afraid that being EU based that would feel pointless too
Yay a Meredith heavy episode. Love the fact that she put together the cooler of doom just to mess Greg up is chef's kiss perfect entertainment!😂❤😂 I love it every time Greg cursed.
A new "strange flavor" that I just heard of is 1 part fireball, and 3 parts pineapple juice... It is supposed to taste like Pumpkin Pie? Haven't tried it, but might be interesting for the Autumn season.
Oh shit now after the pickle thing I've got a new dream: you and Meredith switch spots to do an episode of savory cocktails. Dirty martinis and pickles cocktails and any other salty cocktails you can come up with.
The pickle shine reminds me of something from Brink, a game no one remembers from the 360 days but anyway they have something called Saltshine because it’s a floating slum in the ocean, they make alcohol from seawater and blighted crops. Wrecks you obviously.
@@swirlingtoilets Right? I can’t think of another multiplayer shooter with simply a parkour system as opposed to augmented movement. Oh I guess splinter cell blacklist with the crazy spies in 3rd person, merc in 1st. That was creative

Why don’t you do episodes where you let’s us viewers and fans send in recipes for original cocktails and you can select ones you like or think are interesting and try making them it making your own take on the idea for an episode?

I personally love lavender flavour, but certain artifical lavenders can be soapy af. If I put normal lavender buds into some lemonade, I'd be cool.
“It’s hard to argue with that. I never want it, but it is what it is” has to be the best tasting note ever…
Making Meredith an actual part of the show was absolutely the right move. Love her.
The pickle moonshine actually works amazingly well as the vodka in a bloody mary
Made the same comment
That sounds really good for a savory cocktail
I do hope this series makes a comeback. If not as a “cooler of doom” series, maybe as a “weird stuff we found” thing
Ahhhh that would make sense I think
At the end when it's ingredient name is liquid trump!
31:30 “1 oz. Liquid Trump” has gotta be the most underrated joke of this episode.
Now that's a video I'd watch.
I’m sure someone has mentioned this already, but orange wine isn’t an orange spirit, it’s a white wine made in the style of a red (fermented on the skins). They can be quite good, but often rather sweet/fruit forward.
Yup. Came here just to say this.
Next episode: Greg learns about and tastes orange wines.
Orange wines are white wines made with the skins. So just a slightly orange colored wine. Sadly no oranges involved.
"Liquid Trump". Thanks Greg, I spit my bitters&tonic all over my monitor lol.
This was already a great episode and then Greg and Meriden started singing Sabre dance while Greg loses his mind and it became a masterpiece lol
I lost it at that bit. He started and she just automatically began riffing off him. Two people who have worked too closely for too long
a chaotic cavalcade of chemistry and cheery charm...you both just produce such quality content, love it! ❤️
“You could serve that to somebody. They’d like it” might be the funniest thing Greg has said. 😂😂😂
I can just imagine Meredith behind the camera with a ":)" expression while Greg suffers for our amusement.
If you're trapped in the Cooler of Doom the entire episode...
Does that make this a Bottle Episode?
_sigh_ take my like
I think all of these are bottle episodes. Maybe the occasional can episode.
Nah man it’s only a bottle episode if the characters are trapped in a bottle
Meredith I am so glad you're so much more a part of this show cuz man this is awesome to watch so I encourage you to do it more please when he runs out of ideas you're in charge
Now I wanna see Greg try all the Ol' Smokys, or even just all the cream ones. People seem to love those things.
WELL WELL WELL, look who finally gets the idea of a pickle back “if there’s alcohol in here these are dangerous”
i worry about greg's long term sanity sometimes
Idk about seasonality of this but I would LOVE a cocktail or two with Horchata. I live in Arizona and I love it this time of year as fall gets started
Quick note on the orange wine: the orange wine that Meredith is describing is a specially made grape wine. That being said, you can buy a wine made from oranges in parts of Spain, mostly Valencia. Hard to get otherwise. I had it once and greatly regret not taking a picture of the bottle.
It's made from white wine grapes but instead of removing the skins when pressed they're left in for fermentation, giving the wine an orange colour.
31:30 LMAO! Greg. You're freakin' hilarious. Lmao!
I googled Orange Dream and saw that yes, it's "Just add ice" but I think Greg missed "and blend."
The serving is "Just add ice and blend" which would help the "syrup" quality...a little bit.
Big fan of Greg and the show. Miss the great tasting and classic cocktails. Also love when you do the histories of beverages and/or ingredients. Small hint of it in this with the use of the strainer.
Damn that voice! 29:55 "there it is, that's a hurricane" oh boy haha goosebumps 😂
The Buzzballz Chillers are made with "orange wine" which “is neutral in taste and smells similar to vodka.” according to the company. Regular buzzballz are made with vodka. although it seems like the tequila'rita has real tequila and triple sec in it
calling the friday's orange slurry "liquid trump" somehow was the funniest thing i've read in weeks
More drink matrix's. I really liked those - as an amateur drinker and noob drink mixer, they give me ideas on what actually works together.
I got a chuckle from Liquid Trump.
We need a Halloween cocktail video. Looking to throw a party this year and haven't found the perfect drink yet.
“Liquid Trump” made me laugh out loud, nice one!
Maybe you guys should film an episode where you make homemade cocktail freeze pops.
Cheers! :)
Please do some cyberpunk edge-runner cocktails, and elevated/legendary David, and maybe one for each of the crew (Maine, Dorio, Lucy, Rebecca, ect).
i absolutely love those shine pickles, its perfect to pass around at the family BBQ lol
I love these cursed and doomed cocktails. And honestly the daffy's delight looked awesome
I always thought the Smirnoff Ice with the Red/White/Blue tasted like melted bomb pops. I love the green apple flavor though.
Me and my mom agree with you about the bomb pop thing
The orange light inside the cooler is such a perfect touch. *chef's kiss*
Anyone telling you that shit rum and good rum won't taste different, can't taste.
Ever heard of Rhett and Link?
This is absolutely the funniest episode yet. Greg replying fuck you when Meridith said the pickle juice wasn't that bad is what I'm here for.
Hey, you had a bergamot liqueur on the show a while back. I'd love to see an episode of drinks utilizing that.
Got so excited when I saw the Buzz balls I hate them more than anything. They are very reminiscent of Bakelite off gassing
Oh shit now after the pickle thing I've got a new dream: you and Meredith switch spots to do an episode of savory cocktails. Dirty martinis and pickles cocktails and any other salty cocktails you can come up with.
31:30 "Liquid Trump" I'm having cardiac arrest
The pickle shine reminds me of something from Brink, a game no one remembers from the 360 days but anyway they have something called Saltshine because it’s a floating slum in the ocean, they make alcohol from seawater and blighted crops. Wrecks you obviously.
I remember being SO EXCITED for that game and then it was just... Mediocre lol
Oh yeah that game
@@swirlingtoilets Right? I can’t think of another multiplayer shooter with simply a parkour system as opposed to augmented movement. Oh I guess splinter cell blacklist with the crazy spies in 3rd person, merc in 1st. That was creative
@@swirlingtoilets omg same
4:24 “these pickles are 20% alcohol by volume!” Is a sentence i have not heard before this moment
I thought you might be able to make some more cyberpunk cocktails to celebrate the success of Edgerunners.
This is the last episode of a batch I shot 10 weeks ago, Cyberpunk is in the next batch.
@@howtodrink Hell yeah! I’m looking forward to it!
If you like Pickleback... *random music* "Look at this pickle jar, every one I eat makes me fart" in Chad Kroger voice.
Week 11
I would love to see a Cuba Libre matrix
Different cokes like bottled, canned, glass, or fountain and different rums
Please sir. I'm asking nicely
Maybe it would make more sense using different kind of cokes (like lesser known brands and flavours, possibly from all around the world)
@@mattia_carciola I may change my request.....
Green apple smirnoff ice is like green jolly ranchers melted down. Love that stuff
Even though it's just a bit, I'd love to see your opinions on some of the "stranger" alcohols out there, Ice Wine, Airag, Tepache, Arrak, Mamajuana, Soju, as well as your thoughts on using them in mixology.
Soju or maekgolli he can probably get ahold of but im not sure about airag lol
Greg: Delicious
Notes: I think you're lying.
Why don’t you do episodes where you let’s us viewers and fans send in recipes for original cocktails and you can select ones you like or think are interesting and try making them it making your own take on the idea for an episode?
I really hope you bring the cooler back, I loved that, it was so cool !
If you need an idea for an episode have you considered blind mass-market beer tasting?
I made the best discovery today. I realized that after YEARS of watching HTD, I WASN'T ACTUALLY SUBSCRIBED! So, I promptly fixed that, obviously. Even though I've been here since "Drinking Four Scotch Highballs like Winston Churchill," and enjoying every minute of it (even when Greg tried to kill himself with Manhattans), I got to finally add to the subscriber count.
Also, can we have a "My Favorite (insert keywords here) Drinks" episode soon, I think Greg has earned it.
