NINE high Cs, one after the other, effortlessly, in La Fille du Regiment at the Met in 1972. He took 17 curtain calls. The house went wild. We bought seats but only used the edge. RIP Maestro Supremo. Unequalled, probably never to be equalled. Certainly not in our lifetime.

what a brilliant statement we bought seats but only used the edge, how lucky to have seen him, I could have seen him , I was around but had no interest in opera, it would have taken a lot of money and work, but to have heard that voice in person. the huge gigantic regret of my life.

It's really incredible how his voice is able to effectively cover so many fachs. This is easily leggero Territory but he sang lyric, spinto, and even some dramatic rep too

Of course, many other tenors can also sing this "hammer aria" - but Pavarotti masters it (as it seems, without having to make any special effort) with a vocal ease and bravura that is unmatched.

    Absolutely astonishing!

....Big P at his best! A perfectly balanced lyrical voice over all registers. As the voice darkened later in his career, he went into more dramatic characters on stage. Not always to his advantage. The little word „No“ is probably the most important word for a long and sustainable career. LP was loved by his audience for decades, inside and outside the theaters. People on the market places loved him as well as the owners of the most expensive tickets.
    RIP
