You literally just saved me ripping out my dash and installing an in dash stereo which is what I was going to do. I have a 2013 Civic so it doesn’t have a screen but I’ve gotten used to having them now so I wanted one. Rushed to buy this! Didnt even know this was a thing!!

This is why I want to get this! My 2017 car doesn’t have car play or navigation even though it’s a fairly new car. Rather than ripping out the main system I would rather get this even if it’s more expensive.

for those of us that have older cars this is a petty cool and cost effective way of getting either android auto of carplay into you vehicle. Been using this for a couple of weeks now. So far its been great.

You said that your car already has bluetooth and that you'll be using the bluetooth receiver for the audio, instead of the Auxiliary cable, in doing so do you still have use out of the steering wheel controls? Skip song etc...? I tried a different portable carplay product and I was unable to connect my phone to the device without losing steering wheel controls.

I opted for installing a CarPlay adapter in my car instead of the unit you placed mainly because of the wires. I think if I get another older car I’ll go this route but I’ll figure out a way to hide the wires.

I have an 04 Avalanche. I thought about purchasing a $500 double DIN Pioneer like I did for my 2015 Escape and my wife's 2019 Caravan. I just couldn't bring myself to spend that amount on a vehicle that old. I found the 9" on sale through ZDnet for $105. I thought it was probably junk until I saw some RUclips videos of setup and use AND how much most people have spent on them. Mine is on it's way but I also went on Carpuride's website and purchased the CD inserted mount for $10 and free shipping. My CD player hasn't worked for years, so I'm not worried at all about using the CD player to mount this thing. I'm just not sure how strong and stable this style of mount will be. Regardless, the placement of the CD insert in the 04 Avalanche makes a perfect location to mount this where it's not too high or too low. I'm excited to get mine and try it out. I'm also getting the camera, so that should be interesting.

It's a really neat looking device and I like how it combines a number of functions. My only issue is that I just don't see a need for it. I have Sirius/XM in both cars and plug in a GPS when needed. All the other functions are either not needed or already in the car.
As you say, for those with older cars it would likely be a good thing to have.
if you have a screen with those features then this isnt for you. But for those like my wife and I with cars that have a very basic stereo this gives us some great modern features.
iPhones these days is close to 7 inches. All you need is a damn FM adaptor and you’ll be able to connect to your car’s stereo. I literally was thinking about this but then I upgraded my phone and my phone is so big, it’s basically like an one of these caruride.
yes and no. yes the phone does everything. but there is a reason all car manufacturers are putting carplay and android auto in their cars. The reason is that it is designed for use in a car. The buttons are larger and only the apps that work with carplay are available. So you doint have to look through pages of apps while driving to locate the app you are looking for. Its way easier to use and its considerably safer to use while driving.
Interesting contraption. Only downside to this (and similar products) is it invites someone to break into your car.

The best thing for this is portability. I have multiple cars and just use this on all of them.
What happen if you conect the screen to a bluetooth receiver connected to your car and your phone conected to your screen ?
Beautiful unit but it's like putting a big "STEAL ME" sign in your car. You would have to remove it and reinstall every time you stopped anywhere. I used to go thru that in the past with small portable gps units and it's a hassle.
All depends where you live. I haven’t had anything broken into for over 20 years.

If they made a waterproof version it would be an excellent option for older motorcycle stereos as well. In that scenario I would get one to use both on the 2016 Indian and in the 71 bug.
i was thinking the exact same thing. just add a nice motorcycle mount and good to go.
It’s not tough to waterproof the seals yourself only question is if it needs to be breathable to avoid overheating

Hi Greg, can you provide an update regarding Bluetooth? I have a stereo with both AUX and BT. BT would be great if it the device can connect to both the iPhone (Carplay) and the car ;s BT for passthrough.... ? I had alpine 007 car play before first factory car was sold with it. $500. Always better to buy a unit. But if you have some forms of volvo and others they don’t make a dash kit

These devices are handy if your phone no longer has the 3.5m jack, but if you have a 3.5m jack on your phone then you can just use your phone.
there's an audio adapter if your phone doesn't have a 3.5mm audio jack

Great video! Great product for me, potentially. Just received mine through Amazon. However, I haven't been able to get it connect to bluetooth through the car stereo. And the aux audio port for my 2014 Mercedes is proprietary, so the aux cable that came with it is useless. Another video I watched, the dude said it would bluetooth to the phone and to the car. If it does, I haven't figured out how to do it. Living in Phoenix offers no blank FM channels, so that's out. Hope to get past my frustration.
So at the beginning were you connected to your car via bluetooth AND the carplay? I saw someone do a review and said you would be able to connect to your cars bluetooth AND the carplay on the device to be able to play music via your car speakers and still be using the carplay?

as long as its CarPlay compatible it will work. so google maps works just fine.

im pretty sure that you can connect your phone to your car stereo though Bluetooth and still have this connected, as this connects via wifi. not 100% BUT 99%. Ill check today to see if that works with my iphone.

Hi, I have a question in relation to the 3 ways to get Audio.
1. Aux cable
2. Built in 3w speaker
3. FM frequency
In relation to 3. FM frequency, are you saying that I can listen to the music playing on the carpuride Device by setting the FM on the carpuride to the same frequency on my radio, and that lets me use my car speakers to play what's playing on the carpuride? Or is that saying I can just control my car's FM radio with the carpuride device?
I don't have an aux port in my car and I'm trying to work out how I can play sound through the car speakers from the carpuride device.

the carpuride would push out an FM signal so that you can listen to it via your normal car stereo.
I don’t have it either I think the best way is go to Best Buy and getting it installed and they can put it that you can hear it from your speakers but don’t know how much it will cost but I rather have it installed then having that on top of the dashboard because when you drive and with the turning it might fall I don’t really like the way he has it that you need to see where you going and that looks like it blocks your view this one is not for me 😛

agree Fm Trans are a total pain ,Line in in out fous st is quite a distance away and trying to use the inbuilt speaker is a waste of time,we also found that the Virbration on the units is something that will do you head in when your driving ,also steering wheel control dont work and based on the road traffic laws you are stuffed as the Voice is very poor ,do you waste £300 or pay £600 for sync 3

I'd like to know that too, it seems pointless to me if you can't due to the fact you would lose use of steering wheel volume buttons/controls. You'd almost be better off using your phone in a windscreen cradle with your maps open
You can't. The Roadtop 8.8 has dual Bluetooth which allows steering wheel function. I think there are only 2 units on the market currently that offer dual bluetooth. Kind of disappointing.

My phone does all that already. Why pay for something else
lets see, bigger screen and buttons that are actually designed to be used while driving. This way you don't take your eyes off of the road to figure out how to move around your phone screen. Why do you think all new cars are coming with them included.
Not worth it. Maybe if it was only like a hundred bucks. I understand what your saying about the cost of CarPlay headunits, but with how long they have been out the prices have dropped. You could get a CarPlay headunit from any of the leading brands for about the same price as this screen.
depending on your car model and what you’re planning to do with it it is worth it, people with classic cars in mint condition would benefit greatly from this device

no. this would require this to be wired into your car.

really all depends where you live. you could say that about dash cams or anything that is left in your car.
@@gregtoope dash cams are far less obvious than this thing, a thief would break a window in a second and grab this unit. Your car won't always be parked outside your house. A better bet would be to get a vehicle specific Android unit that looks like stock
@@curtisj2165 sure i bought one of those for my last car. cost $1500. No thank you. Plus if you do live somewhere that is high theft. Just take it with you or hide it. Its just a suction cup mount. How hard is that?
@@gregtoope $1,500? You can get them for a fraction of that. The vehicle specific head unit for my car is less than $200. No need to remove EVERY time i leave my car. This is not the 1980's with face off radios
@@curtisj2165 my 2011 Camaro had a deck that was $1500. And in Canada you’re not getting a CarPlay deck for $200. Plus you arent gonna find a Carplay deck that fits a single dinn style for anywhere less than $300-400. Then you're gonna need a face plate kit, plus a harness. Those will cost around $200. Then if you want to have it professionally installed that's another $300-$500 depending on your car. And for those of us that have more than one car, you have to do that on both cars. I can just move this. Plus I can move it when I sell the car and buy something different. Or I can just sell it online. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that there arent a lot of people out there that think its a great idea. Including me. Seems like over 50K people have watched this video as they were looking for an easy to add Carplay adapter. And this just works.
These portable units are underwhelming in comparison to most in-dash HU. Need more features
