Back in 2007 I worked as a development engineer in human machine interface for an auto company. We purchased an SUV to fit with products consistent with our future vision. In early meetings I presented my vision where the smartphone carried all personalization and entertainment, and physical buttons and controls related to these functions would be assigned by that device. The group sat dumbfounded. I had just foretold the end of in car infotainment growth, and it made complete sense. The company rejected my direction because it limited growth "share". They instead struggled to produce lame functions that were always obsolete from day one. Your iPad solution in this video is the best approximation I have seen to my concept, but it still lacks access to fixed controls in the vehicle.

I've actually done this on a couple of cars with great success each time. Unfortunately when I started doing this with the newer Mini-LED ipad pros I realized a major flaw with them is that they do NOT work with polarized sunglasses. I live in SoCal so polarized sunglasses are a must. Another thing with any ipad is you will also run into brightness issues in bright-light (like the sun beaming on you), it's not terrible just not ideal compared to a screen that comes with a car. Also - and this is obvious but just to note - this is illegal to do, if a cop pulls you over and sees you have this setup they will obviously ticket you for that, so just make sure you take it off before that lol. With all that said, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do this if you don't already have a good apple carplay screen, it's extremely worth it, especially if you drive long distances. Yeah but this could be illegal in your country, but here in Czech Republic, it's not... The only thing could be an issue. If the device blocks the driver's view...
Why would the Mini-LED iPad not working with polarized sunglasses be a flaw of the iPad? That's ridiculous. And you are telling me the 12 inch Display In many cars is legal, but the iPad is not?
@@enterprisecreations1492 it's not, like, a moral fault of the iPad or whatever. But many LCD screens don't work with polarised lenses, or only at certain angles from them. It's definitely something people should bear in mind if they want to copy this!

I did this too, have my iPad Pro Wi-Fi connected to a Garmin Bluetooth gps to have a better navigation and also handcrafted a support using a magnetical folio case. Best idea that I ever had
@@HaydarAlThwainihey I bought a garmin glo 2 which is a Bluetooth transmitter, I’m very happy with it, the battery isn’t great but you can keep it charged with the usb cable
Great video! Thanks for the tips. One tip from me, if people don’t have a spot to mount it can use quad lock. They have 3M base mounts, and the female mount also is a 3M to put it directly at the back of the iPad. I would suggest buying a skin first for the back of the iPad in case you want to remove the mount in the future. This way you can use the iPad horizontally but also vertically.
Thank you very much. ✨ Nice tip! I actually thought about guadlock, but I did not like the aesthetic part of it, so i choosed for a magnetic case, but i can definitely say it is more safe solution with possibility of portrait as well, right. 🙌 Thank you for sharing. 🤝
Loved the idea and adored your animations. The styling was superb. I think most automakers should just add an iPad as their CarPlay/Android Auto integration, the iPad layout just works, and it's still kind of embarrassing that they pour so much into R/D and the infotainment system is just, every single time, an afterthought. Thank you!
Keep up the good work! My recommendation for your growing channel is that kindly keep the music volume a bit lower than your voice since it was a bit difficult to understand your voice. Other than that, best work. I will surely try this with the iPad😊
Rad idea, definitely insure your voiceover is a bit louder than your background music. Usually in my editor with louder tracks like this, I'll have them hover around the -20db to -26db depending on the track.
@@Snaypsalso if you’re geeky enough you could sidechain your bg audio to your vo so the gain will dynamically adjust based on whether you’re talking or not
Why would there ever be music playing while you’re talking? Have you ever watched a TED talk, is there a band playing during that talk? When you’re having face-to-face conversations with people, do you play music from your phone during that interaction? Why does the majority of u tubers think that music must be played behind every video ? WTH is going on 🤬
I have a 12.9 inch iPad and I literally think that’s all the time and how good of an idea it would be and it’s so nice to see someone finally make that idea of reality and it actually works really well too as you’ve demonstrated with the speed on the side just like a Tesla keep it up :3
I love this idea- my only issue is that it removes back up cam functionality, not 100% necessary, but it’s a nice feature. I’ll keep my magnetic iPad mounts installed for longer drives, much appreciated, also planning on using your focus feature template
The creative, solution driven build, the slick editing, the informative no nonsense voice over. I love everything about this video! One suggestion I’d make, U=shaped usb c adapter. I have a similar solution sat on my desk, I 3D printed a 2mm thin layer the same height and width as the iPad case, it has a channel which fits the usb-c cable snuggly and that’s connected to a usb-c u-snapped adapter. Means I can place my iPad on the magnetic case and then just push the charger into it, really convenient and no visible cables.
@@SnaypsHope you figure that out! I’ve got a water damaged Magic Keyboard that’s been sat in my drawer for about a year now with the intention of trying to work it out. I’ll keep an eye out for your video on it :)
This is amazing!! It even looks like a Tesla screen. I’m sure many people will implement this on their cars. Personally my iPhone 14 Pro with MagSafe stand from bulking is working fine for me.
Really nice! One suggestion to make it even more automated: make an automation where the car focus mode activates when the iPad connects to your car Bluetooth
@@IanSampaio…Using an NFC as a ‘inside car locator’.. yeah, I’m SO using your idea. Odd that I didn’t think of it, given I’ve got NFC tags all over my house (some 80 and counting 😳)… they are SO useful! Time to add a few to my rides! Thanks for the idea!
I had never once thought of getting an iPad with cellular before watching this video. I drive a 2019 Toyota with CarPlay, but screen is too small, fixed in its place, & requires me to look away from front view to see it. To be able to use a 12.9 iPad Pro would be a big improvement. Apple needs to take note of your great concept.
OMG! i’ve been using my ipad in car exactly the same for half a years too! it’s so nice to see someone actually doin the same❤ but your mount is definitely more convenient, i use a spring clamp kinda mount but it works the same
What about controlling back camera, aircon, doors, music presets like loudness.. All that you get with an integrated monitor software? - Or is it just Carplay with a big screen?
Feature Idea to add - Use ipad cameras simultaneously as dashcam for internal and external loop recording - you need to build an app for that but it would be awesome! you can even integrate all these shortcuts into that one app and make it as a product.
I could most definitely see this coming into the production market of vehicles . Being able to just put an iPad into any modern car’s dashboard is really convenient and easy solution instead of developing a screen that supports AirPlay which can be slow and instead use a more easily usable and faster device just like nothing. The only thing I’d want more out of this idea is the ability to charge magnetically when attached in the car and it automatically syncing to the car when placed on the magnetic holder.
It will never go in to a production vehicle because automakers don't like giving up control of the data they could collect from you using their own built in screens.
Great idea, just one minor flow, you might want the connection between iPad and mont to be rigid instead of magnetic. The iPad would fly toward your rear passenger during a rear ended accident, and depending on the angle of the collision, it might fly towards the driver as well.
Tks for this video. It gave me a good idea and to use strong magnet mounts and built a similar setup in my Mini! Also using your shortcuts with just some slight modifications!
I had this idea in mind of using ipad mini but never knew how to execute it.. you nailed it man with iPad pro (even better)... The Efforts to create the magnetic holder and shortcuts is commendable - perfect execution ....💪🏼.... Subscribed
I wouldn't use a mini i would think its good idea but realized you can get 256 gb's of space on those. go with 11 inch ipad pro 2 tb's than you can save movies on it and songs.
Great idea! I would love to have this in my car as well. Only problem I am seeing is the position of the iPad obstructs the view of the driver to the passenger side. Not full obstruction but it limits the view somehow. Lowering it down however may result to restriction of the usage of some dashboard buttons.
Just posted a comment on here if you want to read it its using the scosche magnet and you can easily have full movement of the iPad can lower it or raise it or lay it down where its not in your way hope this helps
Went into Rogers yesterday and bought 2 Iphones for my kids, got a free 9th gen Ipad cellular. couldn't think of a use for it, but this vid just made a new purpose for it. off to order all the parts to get this going. Thanks!
Now this is the kind of creativity i long for on a daily basis! Looking forward to your next project and i have high expectations. New sub here, good job man! 👍👍👍👍
A very well made video about a topic that I love. I had a similar setup a few years ago, just was more simple. I used a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inch that mounted onto a Tablet holder that fit into the cars CD slot. It connected to power and aux directly and I had it mounted vertically. Then I always had a split screen with maps on top and music on the bottom. I love that setup, but had to abandon it, as we switched to a car, which was too small to reasonably mount the tablet somewhere. I’ve been eying the iPad mini for a new attempt, but not having horizontal split screen, would be a downgrade compared to my old solution, but I would have access to the iOS app ecosystem, so it might be worth it.
Good implementation. iPad mini would work better for me, but it’s a personal preference. I’ve seen some people completely change their infotainment systems with off-the-shelf tablets with preloaded apps and custom interfaces, but your solution is quick and more user-friendly. Good job!
@@89five3fiveyea I know it sounds surprising, however, iPad mini is priced higher than the regular iPad (10th generation) regardless of the model type. iPad mini comes with A15 bionic chip as compared to the A14 bionic provided in iPad 10th gen.
Amazing video! Thanks for your work. One suggestion, in the beginning of the video, the music was a bit loud comparing to the voice, apart of that, really nice 👌🏼
Been doing this with a Samsung tablet in DEX mode as it allows you to have multiple windows and re-size them as you see fit. I typically have Waze & Spotify or Google maps and a Music player side by side.
I’ve done this too! My current setup is a switch buddy thin case with 2 magnets attached to the back I bought off Amazon. I attach it to 2 magnetic car mounts side by side. Works like a charm 👍🏽
Nice build. I would maybe try to mount it lower to the dash so it does not disturb you that much during driving. Maybe also add a little angle to the mount so it is a little more directed to the driver as he needs the information. For the video itself i felt like the background music was to loud. It was sometimes hard to understand you or rather i needed to concentrate a little more then usually to understand the voice in the video.
This was excellent. I love starting with the requirements, explaining each of the issues and how you approached them. In addition I loved the modern editing with the modern sound effects and clean video. Overall, excellent solution and presentation.
How have you refined the system after using it a while? How do you get music from the tablet to your cars system? How do you recommend doing so in an older car without Bluetooth? Are you worried about theft? Do you take the iPad off when you leave the car and put it back when you enter the car? Do you have the 3d print files you designed for the mount available? Lastly, what app did you use for the speed monitor you have on the left side of the screen? Also, how do you go about getting all of the connection data to the device, like calls and texts, accessing gps maps and directions, and anything else that requires internet set up? (Does your iPad have cell service features? Do you use a mobile hotspot? Do you go with apps that download maps and don’t need data to give you gps directions? Does your phone send texts to the iPad via Bluetooth?) Thanks for the build report, gives me great ideas and maybe I’ll do this instead of a carpuride system in my 2008 Prado.
1. Automatic focus when connected to bluetooth, sometimes in quickrides I do not use the focus at all + I started to use Center Stage to display 3 apps at the time. 2. Bluetooth 3. I had one, I bought bluetooth radio for 80 USDs. 4. I am, that is why I hiding the iPad everytime I leave car > which with the magnetic mount it makes easier to user experience when doing it 5. Yes, in a description, mind it is only for Skoda Citigo and Volkswagen UP! 6. it is in description. 🙌
Sure you can use a Mini! A lot of people talk about it in the comments, for my use case the 11" is the perfect solution, also you depend on the iPad you want to use in your personal life. 🙌
Cool solution, though I'm a bit turned off by the 5G requirement for navigation performance. Any idea if tethering to your phone would be an adequate alternative, or is native cellular really going to be that much better?

This is a brilliant video! I can't stand the cheap plastic infotainment screens that look like they're from the toy aisle at Walmart. I wonder how someone could tear out the infotainment screen in an existing car, such as a Prius or Mazda, have the dash repaired, and then install an iPad? Another idea is you can go to settings and change the color filter on the iPad to B&W only, which would reduce distractions even more.

Mine is kinda laggy when I share mine, Amy tips for fixing this?
I do not think this is true for either iphone or android tethering. GPS data will not be transferred via tethering.
I did this too, have my iPad Pro Wi-Fi connected to a Garmin Bluetooth gps to have a better navigation and also handcrafted a support using a magnetical folio case. Best idea that I ever had
I have an ipad with wifi connection. what can i buy to make it receving a gps signal ? are you still happy for the solution ?
@@HaydarAlThwainihey I bought a garmin glo 2 which is a Bluetooth transmitter, I’m very happy with it, the battery isn’t great but you can keep it charged with the usb cable
@@Ludwigzz_ thanks so much . Can I just keep it in the car without needing to start it up each time I drive ?
@@HaydarAlThwaini yes just leave it connected to the usb cable
very informative and great content. one suggestion however, please lower the background music as it was a bit distracting.
This guys needs more recognition. Companies should listen to this.
Thank you!
Thank You for this wonderful feedback. Pleaser to create this for you guys. 🙌✨
Pagaras este iPad 3 veces más que uno normal
I’m glad you added some vocals to the background music
Keep up the good work!
My recommendation for your growing channel is that kindly keep the music volume a bit lower than your voice since it was a bit difficult to understand your voice. Other than that, best work. I will surely try this with the iPad😊
Thank you very much, I will do!
Second this, music was too loud
Agreed, the music was distracting
I can’t hardly get anything out of this because the music is unnecessarily and too loud.
Very nice modification. Did you have any issues with the iPad coming off the magnetic mount when driving on rough roads or hitting bumps?
I need an answer to this.
He has answered all of the questions except you maybe iPad actually comes off or hitting buttons isn’t a great idea
@snayps please help answer this, would appreciate it.
Rad idea, definitely insure your voiceover is a bit louder than your background music. Usually in my editor with louder tracks like this, I'll have them hover around the -20db to -26db depending on the track.
Thank you for feedback, will work on that.
@@Snaypsalso if you’re geeky enough you could sidechain your bg audio to your vo so the gain will dynamically adjust based on whether you’re talking or not
@@SnaypsI didn’t notice any issue with the volume personally. Great video

I appreciate you being soft-spoken. It makes me almost not hear you over the loud music.

@@Snaypswhat is the iPad model I want to set up same in my car
Great idea! Thanks!❤
@@dainarts my pleasure. ☺️
I love this idea- my only issue is that it removes back up cam functionality, not 100% necessary, but it’s a nice feature. I’ll keep my magnetic iPad mounts installed for longer drives, much appreciated, also planning on using your focus feature template
Somebody shared an idea for this one, check the comments. And thank you very much! 🙌🏼
I’m not gonna lie. This is actually really inspirational and amazing content! Well done! You definitely earned my like and subscription!
Thank you for this wondeful feedback!! I am actually playing with idea to use smart connector instead for charging. 🤞🏼☺️
@@SnaypsHope you figure that out!
I’ve got a water damaged Magic Keyboard that’s been sat in my drawer for about a year now with the intention of trying to work it out.
I’ll keep an eye out for your video on it :)
@@Snayps Very interested in a smart connector charging option.
The MagFlott VESA Mount for iPad has a U shaped usb c charging cable actually included. I'm going to set one up.

Oh really! Is it better now? Thank you for the compliment.🙌
No you didn’t
This is an insanely high quality video. Your channel is super underated. Keep on creating!!
Thank you so much for this kind of feedback! ✨
if you do the same with a galaxy tab and connect your phone to the tablet you can passtrough calls as well to the tablet via bt
This is amazing!! It even looks like a Tesla screen. I’m sure many people will implement this on their cars. Personally my iPhone 14 Pro with MagSafe stand from bulking is working fine for me.
For sure, but I love the multi app view and even Stage Manager on this one. 🤙🏼
people were doing this with andriod tablets 10 years ago, still impressive to see it done today. repurposing tools is a plus!

Truly such a clean integration! Love your solution and also, the visuals, sounds, and overall execution was stunning. Instant sub!
This is so important feedback for me, thank you so much. 🙌✨
I was going to say the same thing but Kiyoshiblue said it all. Instant like and sub as well. Thanks for sharing this, @snayps!
Really nice! One suggestion to make it even more automated: make an automation where the car focus mode activates when the iPad connects to your car Bluetooth
It will popup the notification every time, but thanks for the suggestion! ✨
You can use a normal NFC or an AirTag (as a NFC) which doubles as location for your car
@@IanSampaiogood idea
I was going suggest that as well. I have an iPad and I get super distracted on that mug so having it while I drive = disaster
I've been using my ipad for years as my head unit. The state police stopped me for another reason, saw the setup and complimented me. Genius
This sounds crazy, nice job man! 🙈
Thank you for a wondeful comment and for sharing, thank you. 🙏🏼 Try it and let me know then! ✨
I have always wanted to do this in my Skoda for as long as i remember, finally someone made a video about it ❤📈
What a luck right, enjoy! 🙌
Hi bro , were you able to integrate in your Skoda ? I have an Skoda rapid and want to integrate it .
OMG! i’ve been using my ipad in car exactly the same for half a years too! it’s so nice to see someone actually doin the same❤ but your mount is definitely more convenient, i use a spring clamp kinda mount but it works the same
Nice one! Thank you for sharing. 🙏 You can share your solution with me on my isntagram DMs if you like, love to see it. ✨ Thank you again. 🤞
What about controlling back camera, aircon, doors, music presets like loudness.. All that you get with an integrated monitor software? - Or is it just Carplay with a big screen?
How about iPad mini ?
Gracias desde México ! Gran trabajo, lo pondré a prueba también tengo un Up Volskwagen
Sooo satisfying to watch. thanks a lot. Best wishes from Germany.
This is even more satisfying to read, thank you, appreciate it. ✨👏
Feature Idea to add - Use ipad cameras simultaneously as dashcam for internal and external loop recording - you need to build an app for that but it would be awesome! you can even integrate all these shortcuts into that one app and make it as a product.
Very cool. You have exposed some features that I did not even know existed. Beautiful!
I am glad I gave you something, thanks. 🙌
@@nickt6581 That will leave it up to us to tear out their infotainment screens and use our iPads, though Apple collects data too.
Great idea, just one minor flow, you might want the connection between iPad and mont to be rigid instead of magnetic. The iPad would fly toward your rear passenger during a rear ended accident, and depending on the angle of the collision, it might fly towards the driver as well.
I totally understand, but why in this case Magsafe holders for iPhone are okay? And thank you for the feedback! 🙌
It is an Excellent idea, we use our 10.5 inch Cellular IPad as a navigation device, which has a bigger screen, etc
Oh right, I tought 13" iPad would be too much. 😁
Tks for this video. It gave me a good idea and to use strong magnet mounts and built a similar setup in my Mini! Also using your shortcuts with just some slight modifications!

It does not actualy, it only seems like because of the camera angle in the video. My view is perfect, really. 🤞🏼✨
Thanks!

Wow, what a feedback. Thank you so very much. ✨
Thank you so very much, glad you like it and thank you also for sharing your own experience, appreciate it. ✨
Good implementation. iPad mini would work better for me, but it’s a personal preference. I’ve seen some people completely change their infotainment systems with off-the-shelf tablets with preloaded apps and custom interfaces, but your solution is quick and more user-friendly. Good job!
Amazing, thank you for the feedback!! 🤞🏼🤩
iPad mini with cellular is expensive 😢
@@Jmg831more expensive than regular iPad cellular???
@@89five3five yes

Nice! I am using Stage Manager a lot now as well, which is similar feature. 🙏
I’ve done this too! My current setup is a switch buddy thin case with 2 magnets attached to the back I bought off Amazon. I attach it to 2 magnetic car mounts side by side. Works like a charm 👍🏽
Which magnet did u use ? Thanks
I have the same set up, i used 2 magnets too, works like a charm.
@@joea2875 Any magnet that has the sticky side to it
Nice idea! Wow.
I know it seems from the camera view, but it does not at all really. ✨🙌🏼 Thank you for feedback!

Does your phone send texts to the iPad via Bluetooth?)
Thanks for the build report, gives me great ideas and maybe I’ll do this instead of a carpuride system in my 2008 Prado.
1. Automatic focus when connected to bluetooth, sometimes in quickrides I do not use the focus at all + I started to use Center Stage to display 3 apps at the time.
2. Bluetooth
3. I had one, I bought bluetooth radio for 80 USDs.
4. I am, that is why I hiding the iPad everytime I leave car > which with the magnetic mount it makes easier to user experience when doing it
5. Yes, in a description, mind it is only for Skoda Citigo and Volkswagen UP!
6. it is in description. 🙌
