For anyone concerned about dual Bluetooth function in either unit, just remember your phone can do that, have CarPlay but play the music directly through the Bluetooth of your car. Same works for phone calls too.

The cheap one would work well in my company truck, since it's leased and (on my day off) shared with others. I also hate having to use a Bluetooth adapter to get music to play, and carplay is overall better. I have an aftermarket hesd unit in my car that I love and wanted something similar for work. This might be a solution.

I get windshield mount makes the device universal, but it's got the most drawbacks. Touchscreen controlled device out of reach, blocks visibility, and could even see overheating being an issue in hot areas. Probably the easiest, while still mostly universal type of mounting would be still windshield suction cup, but at the base of the windsheild and then an extendable arm that comes straight out, resting on the dash with the device mounted in front of the dash instead of above it where it blocks visibility. That would put it within arms reach too.

I just got the carpuride w103 Pro. It has impressed me so far. Quality is bang on. I'll run it in my 4runner most of the time, but in the winter I drive a snowplow (tractor), sometimes keeps me at the wheel for days on end.
Stoked for the sd card so I can bring asking whatever content I'm feeling and not have to use data.
Wireless android auto is a new experience for me, but I can now understand "the hype" around it. I don't think it's hype anymore, just facts!
Previously I've used tablets to do the same thing but it doesn't integrate the way this does and mounting it was always kinda cringe. This is purpose built, so what it does, it does flawlessly. It just have a pretty potent processor because it keeps up just fine no matter what I through at it.
Thanks Cam, for the overview and rundown.

Re. clear vs. black suction cup, I actually am glad I got a clear one with my device, because I attach it to the dash, not the windscreen. The black cups I saw were covered with some sort of really soft silicone goo, which I feared would leave discolorations on plastics. So... no definite winner here for me.

Alternative option: I use an iPad mini as my infotainment system because it’s a cellular mini model that I already had. So if you have any cellular iPad you would be getting a superior experience except for maybe phone calls if you’re used to using the built-in mic on a traditional infotainment system. It might be possible to use Carplay video from the phone to the device, and simultaneously use Bluetooth audio from the phone directly to the car, bypassing Carplay.
The catch is that you either use wired Carplay, or, for wireless Carplay, reconnect the phone's Bluetooth to the car's Bluetooth, after Carplay started.
If the phone does not have a way to automatically reconnect Bluetooth to the car, after having connected Bluetooth to the device and having started Carplay, then there are apps that can automate disconnecting-reconnecting Bluetooth.
Wireless Carplay starts through Bluetooth between the phone and the device, but then all goes through Wifi. After Carplay has started between the phone and device, Bluetooth can be used for other purposes - audio from the phone to the car.
This seems to be valid also for Android Auto.

I don't get why with the advancements of Cell Phones, cars are not just build with phone docks and a screen to drive the Apple/Android car apps. Ditch the headunit all together and just add a brain box to read all the vehicle sensors and cameras and can translate that too the phone to read on screen.

    • @LordVestibule
      @LordVestibule 14 дней назад

Not everyone has a smart phone.
Infotainment is tied to safety features (backup camera, hands free calling, etc) that are required by law. Additionally, the vehicles systems all interface through that same infotainment system (usually hidden behind ‘dealer mode’ or similarly named). So it’s all already there because it has to be.
And perhaps there are other business reasons (contracts with agencies who handle their infotainment? Etc)
As the driving part of being in a vehicle is slowly eliminated (autonomous driving becoming more normalized over the next 10-15 years) the entertainment features and quality will improve. It’ll be one of the ways manufacturers set themselves apart from others, once cars are just driverless taxis.
For now we’re still gonna be stuck in this on-between where the cars system is outdated by the time it’s released and your phone is the better choice anyway.
As for why they don’t install cradles for phones… they do now, where they have wireless charging bays in some cars, but my guess has always been that they don’t have to and auto manufacturers really only do what’s they have to, to keep costs down.

I love that you didn't hate on the cheaper version! I bought a cheap (~$70) 7" 2Din Android multiplayer with lots of goodies, including wifi, phone bluetooth, steering wheel controls and rear camera (to which i added a front camera too) and installed it in my Forester (you can find the video on my channel). I really love how it changed the interior comfort and experience although it's only got 1Gb of ram which is a bit low and slow when running multiple apps at the same time and it doesn't have android auto or apple carplay, only bluetooth or cable (usb or aux) conectivity, but i would say it's awesome for the price. The ones that you showed here are pretty nice when you don't want to modify the car much and of course the expensive one is going to feel much better, but as you said, some of us like having certain comodities but without paying too much. Thanks for the video!

I just got about 3-4 of these now from Amazon being a Vine member... they are neat. Each one has it's pro's and con's. It's strange that they aren't all the same in a way. The cheap on I have that is $100 has features that the one I got that's $300 which is super strange.
But I put one of them in our older mercedes and it's a nice to have AA/ACP in an otherwise vehicle that really had no sort of infotainment system. Some will autodim, have dual bluetooth, can turn off the annoying as hell beep when you push anything on the screen....etc.
These are sort of a game changer if you don't want to put something in the dash. Mind you these don't operate at all or as smooth as my Pioneer headunit in some of our cars but to add features and now have to have a phone in your hand is a super nice. I can imagine that these are only going to get way better and nicer looking as time goes on.... And we might even see some name brand manufactures see a market in making these. IE: If Sony, JVC, Pioneer started making them I'd 100% get one.

I have a 2015 Sonata but audio quality does matter but with the low budget one could I still use bluetooth through my car itself or will it not work right?

I want to put this in my wife’s 2014 Honda accord EXL. Her car already has factory navigation. Her car Bluetooth, so what I’m wondering is when I pair the Carpureride Unit with the car, will I be able to here Siri give turn by turn directions while listening to the radio?

I would love to see the winner compared to using an iPad mini the same way. With a RAM mount, it could be mounted to the windshield as well

I've bought one from Aliexpress for just $50. It has car play, Android Auto, Android mirroring and apply as well. Works just find and very smooth , also connects to your earphone and car at the same time

Do the units not have an auxiliary cord options to run a 3.5mm cord and play audio? That’s what I would prefer.

Thanks for the video I have been looking for a solution for a while now 2012 used car I'm not sure if the Bluetooth option will work although it does with the phone itself I mean as far as play music but the audio cable will work and so would the FM so I'm really interested in getting this. Yes it is a little bit pricey but the only other option cost almost as much something like a $10 difference. Would I really wanted to see was how video would play

Looking at the budget unit I can’t see the benefit to using your phone on a cradle!
PLUS these units scream “BREAK INTO ME!”

How do these units perform with switching between multiple phones?
My wife and I both use her car occasionally and sometimes are both in the car at the same time.
We had a cheap carplay into a while back and it was terrible at this. constantly blacking out if we were both in the car or would forget one of us if someone else used the car. etc.
