- It is both an art and science when it comes to writing estimates for water damage. Knowing your cost isn't enough... you have to understand the ART OF DELIVERY!
Yes, sales has made its way into the estimating process.
If you don't understand what I am talking about... then you need to watch this video.
We explore the various gradients or thresholds that customers have and use to make buying decisions.
Guess a number to high and they may say no.
Guess a number too low and you lose money (boo).
There is a sweet spot and you need to find it.
I promise you this... until you master the ART of estimating, you WILL be leaving money on the table.
There are some important variables that need to be nailed down before we can write a solid estimate.
Is this a self pay or insurance job?
Is the job large loss or is it a normal water damage under $15k
Details matter!

Is this video helpful?
What would you like for me to cover regarding invoices and estimates?
Where I can find your info to call you ? Thank you
Great stuff man! Could you do a restoration estimate video?
@@MrStandridge i agree one thing that drives me nuts is insurance claims adjusters want more detailed quotes. You provide them and they ignore most because insurance jargon is not used. Knowing more detail of what they are looking for or resources would be great
This is great! We knew nothing when we did our restoration. We couldn't use insurance and It just blew up our world!
Love your content.
I do some water mitigation jobs but your videos explain a lot that I didn't know.
I will join your program. Great stuff man.

Super helpful information. Thanks, Shane.
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos are very helpful showing how to price gouge the customer due to their ignorance.
Glad you think so!
Great tips
Glad you like them!
Big difference!
Estimates depend on field knowledge and experience!
I have estimates from the bigger companies in the field with 5 line items!
Period
The claim depends on coverage not on amount of damage.
Deductibles come from $0 , 250, 500, 1000 to $2,500 property and casualty in common grounds for clean water source water damage.
The claim depends on the damage. If you have claim of $3000 approximately you better not place a claim and leave the 20% increase for a $500 coverage check.
We go straight to financial!
“All is way out of reality”
But hey some information is better than nothing!
My first job was 43k next jobs were easy.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
@@TheRestorationContractor👍
LOVE IT!!
Do you submit a sketch with your style estimate?
NOPE 🤣
@@TheRestorationContractor nice!😂
@@TheRestorationContractor Wth! I have to set up a call with you.
Do you use the same format for restoration estimates?
Yes and no
I assume you mean reconstruction?
We have used the same scope system with recon as well as mitigation
It is possible that we would use Xactimate for reconstruction.
we would not use Xactimate for mitigation
What if equipment was only running for 4 days and they are charging for 7. Workers were not able to pickup for 3 days after. I was told to unplug all equipment after day 4 and just set equipment aside. Am I responsible for paying all 7 days?
you will have to talk to the company you hired about that.
If the contractor is unable to pick up the equipment due to their own scheduling issues then you shouldn't have to pay for that equipment. At least in my company that's how we operate
how do you send photos of the loss the the insurance company. with xactimate, the photos get attached
So here is what we do... we place a link to the photos in the notes section of the estimate and invoice.
They can access the photos from the link.
We used Google Drive to store photos for years before moving to a photo application software.
Let me know if you need more help

Some mitigation companies won’t provide a quote to send to insurance. They say, “we do the job then bill insurance”… Is this common practice? We had one actually tell us he can’t do anything until a public adjuster comes out and recommended a “PA company”. Because our insurance is saying that the contractor should be providing a quote to work off of.
we never worked with a PA in 10 years.
I'd suggest you talk to other companies
@@TheRestorationContractor thank you so much. Since the comment, we reached out to another mitigation company and they had 0 issues providing us a quote! It seems some of these mitigation companies just want to maximize their payout - or maybe I’m wrong!
I do that math I am not lazy
glad you liked the video!
Cat 1 is essentially rainwater
Cat 2 is gray water
Cat 3 is poop water.
If you have rain water dripping from your roof, it’s cat 1. If you have a sewage back up, it’s Cat 3. That’s why the prices are different.
thanks
The source of loss determines coverage!
Are you kidding me!
You may want to do some research on it!
I rather have a cat 1 or 2 and get the full coverage than negotiating Pennie’s!!!!
Cat 3 or Mold Jobs in some states are not covered unless the source of loss is determine and if the source is cover d you get paid for the secondary damages as well.
