Dyno testing the Unitronic 4" Intake System VS the Integrated Engineering Intake System - Audi RS3

  • Unitronic finally released their long awaited 4" intake system for the Audi RS3. I got my hands on one as soon as I possibly could. I then went straight to Evolution Auto Performance to have a dyno comparison done to see which system makes more power. I was thrilled with the results and am very happy with yet another Unitronic purchase for my RS3. Here are the links to both the intake and the turbo inlet that I have previously compared and tested:

    So, I want to higlight some facts I observed... The very first IE pull seemed weird, as the torque was way less than on all other runs... and he actually mentioned slipping or something like that in the video... And if we only compare always the 2nd dyno runs, the results are actually as follows:
    IE: 570.2hp / 553.3lb-ft
    U-RF: 567.6 hp / 551.6 lb-ft
    U-SF: 565.7 hp / 549.4 lb-ft
    Suddenly data speaks more for the IE 🧐 ...
    Not saying any is better, just that these are my observations on these runs

    • @VancityAudi
      @VancityAudi  4 года назад +1

      I wish the first run on the IE setup didn't stutter/slip/pause, whatever the heck it did to make the lower numbers. Would have made the results more accurate.

    Another great video Adam! I am a current 2019 SQ5 Prestige owner with a JB4 on it. Hopefully, I may secure a 2019 RS3 soon and will be looking to add some power items without a potential TD1 issue for service. I may go with a 4" Air intake and Turbo Inlet from Unitronic and a JB4 unit for a reasonable bump in power. I don't mind keeping the power increase mild to maintain the warranty for the time being as I can just unplug the JB4 before service. Ultimately, I may go with a Stage 1+ ECU and Stage 2 TCU tune from Unitronic after awhile. Thanks again for the product comparison!

      It isn't the horsepower you need to worry about. It is the torque. I used to believe that it was above 500lb/ft you need to upgrade your internals. Now I'm starting to feel like the motor can handle more as long as the power comes on later in the rev range.

I'm putting in the uni 4" inlet and the uni 4" carbon fiber intake this week and running the Uni Stg. 1 tune which produces the advertised 476HP / 469TQ . By installing these bolt ons, would you know if i'm limited to the tune specs for power output or would I gain some power over the advertised numbers w/ just the tune..

    Outside the the 2 outliers (if the RS3 is anything like most MQB cars the first one usually has the most timing corrections) they all run 570/550 and have the exact same area under curve. If the Uni could have reproduced that 3500-4500 area you might be onto something about it being superior. Logs of the runs would be telling. Good stuff though, keep it up.

      Yes. This dyno is also an AWD dyno. I purposely measure power in FWD to make sure the AWD system doesn't mess with the results. I have tried AWD on 2 dynos and both of them had weird results because of the AWD system interfering and putting power down unevenly

    2 years later are you still running a Unitronic intake?

  • @etsonos
    @etsonos 3 года назад

    The problem with these test is anytime you put a new intake on any car you have to drive the car around for a while before you put it on the dyno. This gives the car a chance to any differences in air flow over MAF sensors. Many times the gains you see on the first pull will be mitigated by the ECU recognizing the changes and adjust down for airflow changes. The last run was low because the ECU was adjusting. If it was heat soak you could easily show your intake temps to prove the point, but you didn't. Running dynos immediately after the install is what intake manufacturers do to falsely claim big gains.

      @@thomasdearing7718 I don't take what you're saying as disrespect. I just completely disagree with you.
      There is no way you'll see similar IAT's with the hood closed on the dyno doing repeated 4th gear pulls at over 200km/h as you would on the street with the hood down. There is WAAAAAY more air that comes through the front of your car in the real world (on the drag strip or on the street) as there is on a dyno. Or at least the dynos I have tested on. I have proof of this via the thousands of datalogs I've done.
      It's very rare that dyno's have adequate airflow, so in order to accurately test hardware I need to ensure that the IAT's are similar and optimal between both products. If I don't do that then the testing is inaccurate. I kept the hood open to make sure the IAT's weren't sky rocketing and negatively impacting the performance of the hardware changes. That way it is a fair comparison.

      @VancityAudi  Год назад

      @Drey Thompson if all you care about is noise, then go with an open CTS Turbo intake. They don't fit really well, but they have a big open air cone that will make your intake sound louder at a lower price.

      @@dreythompson9016 You're going to want an open air intake regardless if you want it to mainly make sound. The semi-enclosed intakes from Uni and IE are awesome for making power but don't make as much noise. Reach out to @redlinemotorworks1 on IG and let them know I sent you. They have some pretty damn epic titanium and aluminum open intake setups available.

      Thanks guys I’ll have to look into it, currently got a 2016 last of the line supercharged Audi S5. Running Revo map, Milltek full exhaust & Revo intake. So should be 450bhp but it’s a heavy car and feels slow, so looking to up grade to a RS3

    These racing filters get more debris/particles in the engine from stuff passing through the filter. Causes damage to the engine over time.
