Why I chose the TTE700 hybrid turbo for my Audi RS3 (plus a quick install)

  • It's time to answer the most commonly asked question since I announced that I purchased a TTE700 from the The Turbo Engineers. "Adam, why did you chose the TTE700 over all of the other turbos you could have purchased?"
    In this video I spend some time explaining why I decided to go with the TTE700 and then do a quick visual comparison of the OEM turbo and the upgraded turbo.     Really appreciate your insights into this and the choices you made with reasons. Being APR stage 2 the TTE700 is going to be my choice as APR have a fully dialed in stage 3 tune for TTE700 and 93oct. Thanks man

      Vancity Audi You’re right, I believe they’re still BETA. But since I think I’ll go with Unitronic as well those 2 hybrids are the ones that I like better.

    I clicked the bell notifications. I love watching your content. I will most likely pick up a used RS3 in the future. Sure i enjoy my Mustang ecoboost, which is on the road to 600 whp. I need to do a built bottom end before that happens tho. All i want to do is go fast, and sound good lol. I definitely don't sound good in the Ecoboost LMAO, but sure is quick. Anyways keep up the great content :-) I watch every video. If i ever get an RS3, it's from watching your videos, showcasing the pure potential of the RS3.

      Thank you very much for the kind words! Your interpretation of quick will change quickly once you grab an RS3 rather than your Mustang. I'm sure that 600whp feels quick to you, but toss on AWD to that, add the epic sound of an inline 5 and you'll wonder why you stayed with the Stang for so long.

    Oh man. I haven't driven since 2007 due to a stroke. Prior to that, I was big into 5.0 Mustangs - blower, turbo, etc....It's crazy that these can go low 10s on pump gas at 135 stock wheels, AWD traction, wow. Amazing. I hope to start driving soon, definitely need a TT RS

    Thanks for very interesting info man...😊🏁 I just got my TTE550 turbo for my M135 xDrive 2014 Bmw, I dont have as you have portinjection, so I bought an Walbro525 Lpfp and today an Dorch Stage2 Hpfp..., I’m really glad to hear that you have an finished file through Unitronic both on 93 and e85..., I hope Mhd will have that for me also..., but a question; why did’nt you go for the TTE777 instead of the 700?

    Awesome video man. Can’t wait to see what this car puts down on all three files.
    So Does Uni require upgraded injectors for their stage 3 TTE 700 93 octane file? I’m assuming you are running them because if your E85 stage 2.
    Also, what about the upgraded LPFP for stage 3 E85, especially on the built motor file? Does Uni not require this for the TTE700 stage 3 on E85. I think APR mentioned it was required for their stage 3 software. Curious about Uni and what you are doing with the LPFP. would be great if you could cover this in your next video!!

      I'll be discussing this as I bump up my power levels over the next couple months. For now though, yes you need upgraded injectors for the stage 3 - 93 octane file. No, I don't need an upgraded LPFP for the built file but if I install one they have a file for that too

    i am new to ur channel but the information u give are very detailed and helpful 👍i have watch many of ur videos and i see that u are continusly saying about the map of 777 that dont have map for 93.is so difficult to make a custom map for 93 and e85.??here in uk we see it very regularly with a car have 4 different maps including e85 with standard ecu

    Well thanks for the explanation. I was thinking it was a hardware choice. I was hoping it was and you would go through the hardware and state pros/cons. But a Software reason is also important to consider.

      Ya, as I mentioned the hardware offered my multiple companies is great, but without the software portion, you can't use any of the wonderful hardware. Thanks for watching!

    Congrats on the turbo Adam. Just out of interest Did you not go for the tte 777 due to the reason that unitronics don’t have all the files as you described for the 700 ?

      Yes, the TTE777 falls in line with all the other turbos I listed. Looks great, but isn't fully sorted out.

    Hi Adam. Great informative video as always. Can you advise whether the wastegate rattle experienced on the stock turbo with downpipe is resolved on the TTE unit. Thanks

      Ralph Payle wastegate rattle will be there with all hybrids. You can only fox it by going to a Big turbo

      Sean Mclaren I’m not sure that’s exactly true, doesn’t the SRM hybrid replace the wastegate actuator with a different one that doesn’t rattle?

    Is there a separate software map for the tte777 in Unittronic Connected Plus?
    I only saw the software for the tte700,

      A few hours for the install. The oil and coolant lines were a bit of a pain to get off and on but not the end of the world.

    There are tuners out there that can work with the stock ECU and send you a custom file. You don't have to be restricted to "cookie-cutter" tunes. Nick does custom tunes for Iroz. Jeff does custom tunes at United Motorsports. Both of these guys and probably some tuners in the UK and Europe can tune the bigger turbos. You don't have to be a guinea pig. Especially with the Iroz kits. Those have already been installed on plenty of RS3s & TTRS cars. Many of which are daily driven :)

      Nick's custom tunes for Iroz need a Syvecs unit costing $6500USD. The customer service at United Motorsport was crappy at best when I used them for my 2016 Audi S3. Who said I was a guinea pig? There have been multiple people that have already run this turbo on every single power level and fuel type that I'll be using. I have been extremely happy with Unitronic's software and have gone extremely fast with it. Why would I try and fix something if it isn't broken???

    Finally another lad documenting the TTE700! I dyno’d 560whp on E85 stage 2, and ran 565whp on 98 ron (US93) on my tte700. However, the Average power across the two graphs tells a different story... Because the TTE spools around 3600, Im loosing around 600rpm of spool, therefore we redline the car at 8000 to combat this.
    So far my best 1/4 mile full weight in my TTRS is 10.31@136mph (20’ wheels) Im sure once I strip my car and still use 98 ron File, Ill be around a 9.8...
    Ive found it to be just a tiny bit slower than my old E85 file, however for daily use on 98, its exactly what I wanted!

      Very interesting. Will be cool to see the difference in tuning for sure. Mine will only go to 7600rpm on Unitronic software.

      Vancity Audi yeah, its definitely a small risk revving out to 8k on stock engine however it utilises the powerband of the turbo very well!
      In scotland E85 is hard to get, as 0 pumps in the Country have it. We have to buy it online and ship it out!
      Its around £3/L for it, so gets mega expensive really quick!
      I can’t wait to see your results with unitronic, especially since you recently timed your 1/4 mile and everything on E85. Would be nice to compare to my build, only thing different is Im APR tuned, and Gearbox software by TVS! (Shift points are 7800, and 4000 launch control)

      @@SeanMclaren 3000 rpm vs 3600 rpm is one thing, if you are in gear with no boost doing a pull.
      But once you shift, that 600rpm of lag is not the same

      @@VancityAudi Haha, thanks, that's what I assumed, just wanted to be sure there was no other reason. Because I'm trying to make the same decision, but since Unitronic doesn't provide TTE700 or 777 calibrations for my engine, might go with 777 as well.

    I am just curious because our fuel here in BC is notorously bad..aka for octane. When you say 93 are you referring to Chevron 94?

      No, I'm referring to the file/tune I am using. The tune from Unitronic is meant for 93 octane fuel. I run 94 octane fuel from Chevron spiked with 15 - 20% ethanol. Our fuel in BC is so horrible for performance that without adding additional ethanol my car wouldn't perform anywhere near where it should be on these tunes.

    If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost? Did you have to send your turbo to TTE to install the hybrid blades? Also I didn't see Stage 3 being offered on Unitronic website. How did you get it?

      Thanks Adam. I was just recently looking at the same thing to install on my car. I am now set back not by the price but by the severe turbo lag below 3500 rpm (I have seen the dyno curve well below stock) that it is hard to drive daily. But I look forward to see your new videos, good videos.

      @@khvidtube1617 not sure why you assume that. I have been dailying my TTE700 for over a week now on 93 and have no issues whatsoever. Yes, power hits slightly later but by no means does it ruin the daily drivability. Still moves like a mofo when you stomp on it.

      I may have assumed, perhaps correctly. I have viewed the dyno graph produced by APR on its website. I know we are not talking about APR here but I have found all of APR's dyno graphs to be consistent with Unitronic's (even the profile of the curves). Maybe it is different and I could be wrong this time.

      @@khvidtube1617 you keep referring to graphs and dyno's. That isn't the true measure of how a car feels while driving it on the streets as a daily driver. Yes, the car has a few hundred rpm delay from Stage 2 - E85 to Stage 3 - 93 but it still feels very natural, very linear and very easy to daily drive.

      Unitronic is extremely careful about releasing software. Until the software has been announced on their website and promoted on their social media it will be listed as a beta file in UniConnect+

    How much does it cost to build the motor, upgrade to the tte700 turbo, and the cost of tuning and whatever extras you have such as an intake etc...? Include the price of install as well.

      Ya, COVID ruined a lot of people's plans including my own. Unitronic does not have a 710HS tuned completely sorted out at this time.

    Unitronic really need to do something about the price of the rs3 intake ! In Australia dealers are charging us $2750 !! Way too expensive
