- We drove our turbo cars from Florida to Alaska. We took our STI drivetrain swapped Subaru Forester and Mitsubishi Evo 9 MR on a journey of over 10,000 miles. This isn't click bait, we actually did it! Or rather, you'll have to watch to find out if we actually made it all the way!

I'm sorry that this video is still in 360p. I have been talking with youtube for the last few days trying to get this resolved. I HAVE RE-UPLOADED TWICE, but they're still not processing past 360p. Something is wrong with RUclips's servers, but I wont stop trying to get this video to the 4k quality that you expect from us.

so he swapped out the engine a week before leaving for the trip and didn't put fresh plugs in before putting the STI engine in?

Especially since that's the easies time to do it. I love boxer motors and have owned many subarus but despise working on them.
He didn’t swap the motor, only the tranny and the rest of the drivetrain excluding the motor. Subframe, etc
No, the forester XT has the ej255 essentially shortblock sti, you inly have to slap in a turbo, tune it and you have yourself an sti engine

I have one, its great! be sure to get an XT model. I upgraded to a bigger turbo and it's really a beast now.

I own a forester and I love it. It handles like my impreza did and it fits a ton of stuff, awesome car and yes it's not very reliable but oh well, it's worth it
I love my XT, I sold my 2.5rs for it and never looked back :)

I know I’m not the only one that feels like I’m also on this trip. The video editing is out of this world, the dialogue throughout the video is amazing. Can’t wait for next Saturday for the 3rd episode!!
I'm really enjoying it too. When they crossed the golden gate bridge it brought some feels back. It's something I did when I visited San Francisco in June, I hired an S2000 just to drive across the bridge.
I really love and admire the Evo IX, hope to own one someda. Its heartening to see Evos still around. :)
Just watching this now and I am staggered at just how good this has been so far. The camera work and production in particular has been incredible given the circumstances, I'm going to end up binge watching this!

North Coast 500 in Scotland. Give it a look, it's 500 miles of some of the most spectacular road in the world. Plenty of great roads around the rest of Europe too, but I'm biased haha.

I cant explain how happy these videos made me and how much i envy you guys. One day for sure I need to do a trip like this with all my friends.
This brings back so many recent and long memories. That coastal road? You passed where we just were in Florence, OR. That spot that oversaw the Seattle skyline? We visited that place on a music tour. That port of entry? We used to live outside of Vancouver and would go through there every weekend (to shop-dad made a lot in Canada and shopped cheap in the U.S. as a citizen). Brought back some good times. Really good stuff guys.

i came to youtube to look up parts for my 96 mitsubishi eclipse gts and saw this video on my recommendation and i watched the first episode and now i’m subscribed. this channels pretty cool and something i enjoy watching
As an oregonian i can tell you you missed one of the best mountain pass drives ever! Its called mckenzie highway and even from google maps you can see just how crazy it is, at one point it turns into switchbacks for like 3 miles straight. Definitely worth going back for someday
And you failed to recommend driving from Fremont bridge to the Interstate bridge at 5pm on a Friday and see the truth of what Oregon is...btw that is my drive hone daily ugh

Last summer I took a drive (in a rental, unfortunately) from San Diego all the way up to Seattle. Definitely a top 10 drive in the world

That was the idea of the video. I took my 2005 ACURA RSX with 200,00+ miles on it from Massachusettes to South Florda (like 7 hours south of the state line), and it was fun.

I'm a little suspicious that the spark plugs weren't changed during the engine swap
04/05 Forester XT has a EJ255. It's literally the STI longblock. No need to swap the engine, just swap the stuff attached to it. If 04, swap the STI ECU on, for 05, tune it. BOOM! Essentially an STI engine.
I think they might have only done a 6 speed swap, not an actual STI engine swap.
@@khanikun2587 they have ej255 short blocks in the 05 forester, i believe the 04 would be the same, the sti ej255 is the long block, but they basically the same thing with a different torque spec because of throttle differences i believe. to get sti power you basically just need to get a sti tmic and turbo and a proper tune.

The shop that did my Envoy's swap (Not for performance but previous owner let it go bad) didn't do the plugs just to save money and time. Needless to say I'm paying for it now haha

I used to meet up and hangout with my friends at the Alki boat launch all the time when I lived out there. Best view of Seattle, hands down. Glad you guys went there.

nick J pinch welds aren't made for jacks tbh. They when a jack raises it goes up and pulls out. So they bend pinch welds alot.

did not use proper jack, the floor jack requires flat surface. vehicles which utilize the pinch weld area for structural jacking point require special jack or usually provided with scissor jack with head that has slot for pinch weld to sit in but the lips will contact on inner side and outer side of pinch weld prevent the flattening of the pinch weld

Because removing a wheel is massive and very hard job isn't it?
I bet you can do the oil change without removing the wheel but he just did that to make it easier.
Now I found a sense of purpose for keeping my car... at first I wanted to drag, 2nd was thinking maybe circuit racing but now I just want to keep it simple yet reliable to take trips like these and meet ppl along the way and create new friendships🤘🤙✌ Thank you for sharing..

These cars are old and turbo'd not new turbo like new hondas. Hondas have tranny problems by the way.
Now it is just a matter of time of refreshing the video till 4K is available.

My friend and I know a decent amount of cars and we’ve been talking about cars since we were in elementary, now we both got our permits in the same week and plan on getting cars and our licenses at the same time. Hopefully we can get a first trip during upcoming spring break.
I have watched this many many times and every time I get more motivated to do a road trip like this..
I still don’t get why they didn’t fully service both cars before the long journey especially with such unreliable cars.

Great roadtrip! Subaru is good roadtrip choice - we do similar roadtrips with our Impreza, but from Czech Republic to Ukraine, Romania and so on... :-).

Lit Like Larry it takes me 10mins easily in a Impreza and forester. Even with not much mechanical experience it will take someone maximum 30mins to do
Takes maybe a hour. Don’t know why it took him 3 hours. Lack of skill maybe.
