Lots of owners put lots of hard track miles on high revving, 500 NA horsepower GT cars that don't break a sweat and only spend money on consumables like tires, brakes, bearings/bushings, etc. It's kind of incredible.

Well, that's in a Toyota Corolla, one of the most vanilla cars ever made. I wouldn't brag about doing a road trip in my Mazda3 awd hatch, which is very good and fun car, but it holds nothing compared to doing a road trip in modified high HP cars.
Loving this trip…..and the cars. One question many may be curious about: How do built engines need to be maintained that is different than standard, OEM, engines - rebuilding, wear, etc. Just curious on will they go for a long time like a stock engine is supposed to or do you need to plan on new say things every 50k miles. Have heard lots of stories on the latter end of things…. Thank you.
The only maintenance change is using a different weight of oil. The stock Subaru Ej motor would use 5w-30. But with a built motor, lots of guys used a heavier weight of oil. Using the engine builder will let you know what oil to use depending of the tolerances of the engine build.
Imagine having enough gas money for this trip 😭😭😭 But seriously tho, both cars get around 20 mpg, assuming they have to drive ~3000 miles(Idk accurately) that's like 300 gallons of gas, or $1500 in gas money alone.
@@edmunek maybe if the cars dumped like these cars are I would understand it being marginal. But with higher cars roof rack and the weight you put on will definitely make a difference. mine made about 1.2 mpg on my 3 inch lift 4runner. And the noise and whistling is definitely noticeable. But nothing beats the mud terrain tires I put on. After that I stopped counting mpgs. =P

I always enjoy hearing about the lack of excitement towards the Midwest - as someone who lives in it and knows that there are some amazing secrets in the upper states. We do have corn fields, flatness, and snow - but we also have some pretty sweet roads if you know where to go.
Spill the beans my dude 😂
Fellow Midwesterner, here. I second that: SPILL THE BEANS.
In grad school 4 years ago i drove from Panama City to visit my friend doing research in prudhoe bay Alaska. We're both biologists and we were doing our summer research in those respective places. Took me a week!
i misread this and thought you did biological research at 4 yrs old
@@contrnsmagnificndjoobngtaint Hahaha! No, at that age I was researching ants on the window sill and taking apart my brothers Legos!
Cant get enough of these roadtrips. We need part 2 ASAP.
Bro im moving from Maryland to orlando florida with my lowered not TOO lowered but low 06 honda civic si coupe with 127367 miles and this channel and videos gives me soo much faith and hope on my car to make it there. THANK YOU GUYS SHOWING HOPE IS ALWAYS THERE ESPECIALLY TRAVELING OR MOVING TO ANOTHER STATE YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING MY DUDES!
Never seen any of your videos but just watched the whole trip in one sitting. Great content guys !
its so great seeing ben healthy and on the road. keep that engine going you hoon.
I love these road trip series! If you guys feel comfortable telling us it would be cool to know how much money you guys spent on gas throughout the entire trip. Especially in these crazy gas times lol
If they were averaging 17mpg at $4.60/gal that's like $2600 per car each way. Lines up with Ben saying they'd use about 1000gal of fuel lol about $5k in gas between them
and now gas is even more lol
they used up 6k in gas and 6k in hotels all together
Your first trip has inspired me to buy a forrester and start planning a trip from the uk to mongolia. With loads of octane booster. Keep up the amazing inspiring trips.
...to mongolia?
Not gonna lie, like the last 10 guys said the editing in these videos are amazing. I feel like this should be on motor trend lol! Great job fellas
I love watching this guys on the road , that gives me hope that one day I’ll go on a road trip like that and enjoy every second of it .
so good to see another road trip, a massive break away from the Track stuff!!! this gives so much relief and resonates with every automobile enthusiasts....
I guess short Ben is taking it to the extreme in terms of test driving his new engine 😂
Ben, thank you for reminding me never to get tempted to touch my XT. I *definitely* am not built to drive on eggshells like that 😅.
Just watching the STI here’s giving me so much stress I couldn’t handle tuning any Subaru I use 👀. I already get 17.9 mpg of which I’m so happy because I’ve been getting 12 mpg, *fully stock* & that’s all the drama I need 😂.
OEM all day. Let me live vicariously through your IAG Ben 😅.
a stock Subaru is driving on eggshells. I thought I was fine, until my stock motor blew up with 69k miles. I feel much better now with the IAG block!
@@GearsandGasoline Nice.
This. My XT needs a new motor. 1 year after the first rebuild.
@@leopoldwhylie5076 why did you rebuild in the first place/what did you replace. I have an 07 obxt and am pretty sure the ringlands are gone but it still runs fine
@@GearsandGasoline This thought keeps popping in my mind - didn’t the motor blow so early mainly because of poor maintenance by previous owner? Or just bad driving habits - boosting while it is cold and so on.
i have had 2 subarus. 2017 legacy and a 2021 forester. the legacy had 100,000 in 3 years and had zero issues. only did regular maintenance. the forester has over 15k in 4 months and been to several states. still no issues. subaru for life.
@gears and gasoline, this the reason why I bought my first car. we already made 4 road trips.
Shoutout from the Philippines:)
Damn I should've recorded myself two months ago when I drove from Massachusetts down here to South Carolina with my 98 Honda Accord didn't fail me once love it to death.
gotta love how his amenities are "Air conditioning and Tint"
out of a brand new car
short ben.... you need an EJ207 GC instead
I personally don't like slamming cars. Especially if it's meant to have some ground clearance. It's a "Rally" car, so it's supposed to have more clearance. I thought it looked better higher up.
Hello from Fargo. I bet you guys had so much fun in ND lol. The northern accent is the most interesting part about it.
I’ve always wanted to do this, driving from Florida to Alaska. You guys talk about replacing motors like it’s another day tying your shoe lol awesome video
The old body style WRX looks sooo much better than the new one. Love seeing everything he's done to this one.
Yep. The 2020 Impreza WRX looked like BMW M3.
I traveled 6k+ miles during a road trip in a Toyota Corolla. Never had to stop for anything other than food, restrooms, and gas.
Well, that's in a Toyota Corolla, one of the most vanilla cars ever made. I wouldn't brag about doing a road trip in my Mazda3 awd hatch, which is very good and fun car, but it holds nothing compared to doing a road trip in modified high HP cars.
You guys should take some 800-1000hp drag cars on a road trip
probably illegal lmao
man, these two cars are just BEAUTIFUL......
I love you guys, please never stop making art.
I love this series man. Would love to see you guys take a 4th gen. Mustang and a 4th gen. Camaro across the country ;)
Even w/ a stock motor you have to carry out major service around every 60k like apart from the timing kit.
Thank you for this guys!!! The first one was so good. I will enjoy watching and rewatching
Wow i love your road trip videos. These are the only road trip videos i watch. I search on utube but nothing gets me like u guys do. Love the evo btw.
Imagine having enough gas money for this trip 😭😭😭
But seriously tho, both cars get around 20 mpg, assuming they have to drive ~3000 miles(Idk accurately) that's like 300 gallons of gas, or $1500 in gas money alone.
They *did* have a sponsor, so it makes sense
Are they planning to stay in Alaska? What about getting back?
@@nighthawk0077 They did say 10k miles. So…
@@01hafkee I know, I was replying to Carl
Road-trips are the best content , would love to do it
My mapped 2015 STI got 26mpg city driving and it never skipped a beat 😄 regret selling it so much 😫
City must mean highway
@@stevenyia2778 nope just my daily commute to my place of work around my city. I live in Scotland so we don't really have Highways 😆
I loved the first trip so much. What an awesome opportunity to revisit. Can’t wait to watch this through.
WoW! Keep up the amazing work! Love your content!!
Love your road trips! Great content.
thats why the sti was getting lower gas mileage, the tire light was on for low air
Maybe he didn't have pressure sensors in those aftermarket wheels?
@@IvanRiveraStagea very well could be!
I drove from Toronto to Arizona in my 500hp Evo X only thing was I popped my rear driver tire. But man Road Trips in Evo’s hit differently!
Last episode awesome. We were early waiting for the second part.. U guys do great videos.. Feel like we are in there. 🙂🙂👍
Oh this is gonna be fun! 👀
Love the roadtrips; from the sights to the cars; the troubles and success!
Also; 21:38 that was a clean little yellow CRX!~
Aero makes lot of difference in gas mileage. Roof rack definitely making a difference.
roof rack? man. done thousand of miles with and without roof rack and roof box.
the difference can be marginal
@@edmunek maybe if the cars dumped like these cars are I would understand it being marginal. But with higher cars roof rack and the weight you put on will definitely make a difference. mine made about 1.2 mpg on my 3 inch lift 4runner. And the noise and whistling is definitely noticeable.
But nothing beats the mud terrain tires I put on. After that I stopped counting mpgs. =P
4,70 dollars for a gallon of gasoline? How cheap! 7,19 dollars for a gallon over in Germany...
I have been planning to do similar road trips. How do you all drive back? Do you take the same routes coming back? Is it 10,00 miles both to and from?
typically i dont, but most of the time you have to but you could drive the same route back using old highways or back roads depending on the state
I had watched the previous video and RUclips suggested me to watch this thankfully
This video came up today on my page- I drove from Panama City, FL to Fairbanks, AK in 1990. 8 days 5084 miles. Great trip!
I’m out here with a stock new car scared to drive to McDonald’s without breaking and these dudes out here doing this
It's actually very good luck that it failed early, rather than in the middle of nowhere.
Can we all just appreciate how perfectly straight adjacent to the line Ben parked @20:34
Drove from Dallas to Atlanta in a 2016 Accord. 746 miles and 1 fuel stop, I had no problem finding 87 octane. Can’t wait until Saturday.
I always enjoy these series' and they always make me appreciate my reliable shitbox with 40 mpg on highway.
always do not think about bad things because you might attract them.
be positive say hey we are going in advanture we will get there safe .
