Those two mid Ohio clips were the SAME day. I was there, and it was a weird day. Been going to that track for 10 years and it’s the only time I’ve seen a flip there.
I was flagging at Station 2 Alpha that day. You could see the dust from Simon's flip all the way from the Keyhole! I even got the Hughes crash on video but accidently deleted it. That being said, I did get some great footage from the crash in race 3. ruclips.net/video/On1G-S_4Njk/видео.html
The crazy thing is that a week later, USF Juniors, the lowest USF pro series, had a flip at mid Ohio as well
And then you stop and think about it, and it's almost odd it doesn't happen more often. Turn 4 is well banked, and the runoff into China Beach is downhill. That area's a natural ramp. I wish they'd put up some catch fencing or something there for such a scenario.
@@StarkRaven59 yeah. There have been some pretty bad crashes. The 2 that come to mind are Michael Andretti's flip in 96 and Greg Pickett's blow over crash in 2010

I'm pretty sure the cockpit ended up resting against the marshal side of the degner 1 barriers. Wild incident, kind of thing a kid would ask about and an adult would say "no, of course that isn't possible"
Yeah the monocoque slid all the way down the hill. Scary stuff.
@@ryanrix1456 didn’t look much of a slide, more like lucky the barrier was exactky where it was rather than further back or he’d have missed half a lap!

Both of those super formula clips are insane
I still can’t believe Ukyo was mostly fine after that. He almost ended up on the other part of the track
Honestly the fact both drivers were pretty much ok in that Super Formula crash at Suzuka is insane, that was one of the biggest crashes I've ever seen in 20+ years of watching motor racing. The last angle shows how one of the cars literally went through the fence, over the embankment and ended up on completely the other side of the track. Once upon a time that would have been a double fatality easily. Great compilation although one I expected to see that was missing was the Tina Hausmann one from Italian F4 early in the season at Misano, that was pretty big as well.

I remember watching the SF Suzuka crash live on their streaming service, that crash was absolutely brutal. And the fact that some of the wreckage landed in part of the Degner corners is even more horrifying.
Absolutely amazing that both drivers were okay after that, but my god, that was frightening.

Simon Pagenaud hasn't raced since... 😟
Lots and lots of violent flips in 2023, I saw it happen first with the IndyCar drivers at Indianapolis and Mid-Ohio, but the only one that's violent the most is from Ukyo Sasahara at Suzuka. He took the worst crash of all, after he and another driver got into each other from up the hill, but he was okay.

I also thought both drivers who were crashed at 309kph during 2023 Superformula Race at Suzuka were dead but thank goodness, the safety equipments in Superformula are so much more advanced.
Ukyo’s crash at Suzuka is by far one of the worst recent motorsports crashes I’ve ever seen. Cheers to the safety advancements in the cars
It's just visually impressive but Pagenaud's accident was the real big one. It exposed him to a lot of g forces for many moments. I'm not even sure he'll race again.
The GT500 accident at Suzuka was more serious and impressive as well. That car taking flight before crashing was bloody scary.

I was watching the Indianapolis 500 last year and that in car footage of Kirkwoods crash is still some of the craziest I've seen

There actually was another flip in Italian F4 in Misano, between Imola and Spa, that you didn't include. Yeah, there were 3 flips in the first 3 Italian F4 race weekends. Crazy.
Damn, Pagenaud still hasnt been cleared to race since that mid-ohio wreck...
I don't want to jump to any sudden conclusions but that Mid Ohio could mark the end of Pagenaud's career as a driver in similar circumstances to Dario Franchitti's accident 10 years ago

No the driver was caught by the fence, just some parts jumped over it and landed on the other side down the hill.

That Mid-Ohio wreck happened the day before I was going there for race day. I remember watching it on the live feed and I was like "HOLY SHIT!" thankfully nothing like that happened during the race but I did catch the first lap incident after the Esses on camera

No one was hit, but the tire did hit someone’s car. The woman who owned the car that got hit was given a ride home by the track and then track bought her a new car.
