Only had to type “how to open” in google and this was the first post it listed. Told me all I needed to know about how hard Craftsmen made this remote to open. Mine (circa 2000) needs the jaws of life to open, regardless of which side, or end, I try. Regardless of how easy this video shows.
I followed your instructions regarding battery replacement but for some reason the remote had two 2016 batteries (3V each) stacked. I tried using the CR2032 as stated in this video (and in a few other videos) but the remote would not work. I put in two new 2016 batteries and the remote worked. The system was one of the first Sears put out so it's possible the first few versions used 6 volts instead of 3 volts. Just thought I'd pass this on...
This is wrong. You will likely damage the 3 flimsy plastic clips if you use open the case as shown in the video and the case won't stay close again. You want to pop the case open from the side opposite of the big button first.
If you look with a magnifying glass and a bright light, it shows on the case which end to open, not the side shown in the video. Probably doesn't make a lot of difference but some commented on destroying their cases. his could be why.
Question for Mark: I have the Craftsman remote opener unit with the cadet blue (darker buttons) shown in this video. I opened it with your assistance and was surprised to find 2 CR2012 batteries. Both were marked 3 Volts. Are two CR2012 batteries equivalent to one CR2032 battery? Thanks in advance. ~N
I had the same problem - 2 of 3 small fingers broke off opening it from the side. On the remotes in the picture it says to open it at the end. I wished I had done that rather than open from the side. My remote still closes so I guess I'm okay

Yes doing it this way, I popped of the top 3 clips inside the unit. They're broken. Don't open it the way he does
The end it suggested wouldn’t open for me. Mine looks like the dog chewed on it once I finally got it open. A removable screw would have been better.

If you follow these instructions it will damage your plastic case. Case will not stay closed afterwards.

Bad review open from the side and destroyed the plastic clips. Should be opened on the bottom end.

My Craftsman door opener button now requires 3 pushes to open the garage door, but only one push to close it...does that mean I need a new battery?
No carbon monoxide leak detected when 3 pushes.
