Had done this without help a few years back but when my wife told me to fix it again I had no idea what I did the first time. A few seconds with your video and I remembered. Thanks for jogging my memory. Your excellent video should help many.
Thank you so much. I reprogrammed both my keypad and my remotes and it was easy after watching your video. I saved over $150.00 on a service call from Sears.
If only I saw your comment 15 seconds ago! The 3 little plastic nubs on one side all broke. Oh well, it stays closed just fine, but now I can open it with my bare hands which is good.
BTW, I had something weird happen to me with those remotes. I tried this simple procedure many times but nothing would work. For two different remotes... Until I saw a video with the battery put in backwards and decided to try it. It obviously didn't work but, once I put the batteries back as they are supposed, it worked!?! I did this for the 2nd remotes also and now both of them are working!!! So, if your remotes look dead, with new batteries and still don't work, you might want to try reversing the batteries and put them back?!? Not sure if their is a "glitchy" chip in there but, as I said, weirdly enough, this worked for two of my remotes...
Ditto! I replaced the battery, cleaned the contacts - no go. Just for the heck of it inserted the battery with the wrong orientation (+ side up) and pressed the button - no go, as expected. Re-inserted the battery correctly (+ side down) now it works!! Must be the COVID 🤣
Hi, you just saved me from having to buy a new remote. I had the replacement battery facing the wrong way. I faced the positive side down like you did and the remote worked great!!! It didn’t work the other way. thanks!
Additional feature when used with the 3-Function hand-held remote To control the opener lights: 1. With the door closed, press and hold a small remote button that you want to control the light. 2. Press and hold the Light button on the control console. 3. While holding the Light button, press and hold the Lock button on the control console. 4. After the opener lights flash, release all buttons. Now you can press the small button to turn on and off the opener lights without opening the garage door.
Just exactly what I needed! I had tried to get the"cover" off, but was afraid I'd break the thing .. then after seeing your video it all became clear. THANK YOU!
Inside the remote there is a little circle next to the battery that says, "+ DOWN." This is unlike any other instruction that I have ever seen, but it IS what works with this device.
Thanks. There is definitely something strange going on with the batteries on these. I decided to replace mine since it seemed like the signal kept getting weaker. When I opened it up, I took note of the battery (CR2032), and that the + side was up. I replaced a new battery facing the same way, and it would not open the garage door anymore. Afraid that I had done something wrong, I went to look for videos, and found yours. When you mentioned the + side down message, I tried that, and now it works. But.. why are the batteries in there backwards? And why did it work like that with the original battery (a "Lixing" brand)?
I was given a Sears garage door opener and after installing it the remote that is the same as shown in the video does not work, even after changing battery(and putting it in correctly). I tried another brand of remote and it did not work either. Any help you can give is appreciated. Thanks.
The remote only opens from one side. There's writing on the back that says which one. Otherwise you might break little plastic holder pieces when you open it.
HELP! For the life of me, any replacement remote I program for my Craftsman garage unit works great, BUT it wont control the units light bulbs. I cannot turn on and off the lights like I could on the original remote. Any tips?
HI, do you have idea why i can close my garage door but not open it.using the remote or keypad. But the main will work both ways. I already check the Lock or vacation switch..its off. I did reset everything still the same problem. Thanks for your input
OK, I had followed the battery directions properly and it didn't work. I read an old comment - about putting the battery in wrong, try to program (still didn't work) THEN change the battery to the correct position again...tried to program it again and this time it worked perfectly. It took two hours to try to do it the correct way (reading the instructions) and once I made the change as indicated above - took 2 minutes to program two remotes for two different doors.
Underneath the factory sticker, there's a small hole with a screw at the end. I turned it, but it doesn't open the backend until I saw your video. What does the screw do? My remote no longer works. Was trying to change the battery.
Thank you. I just had a falling out (well HE fell out going off on people while drunk) with my friend who is a door guy and my remote hadn't been working. When I put the battery in I had to reprogram the remote. Now I don't have to get out of the car to close the door manually from the outside keyboard. It was getting tiresome
I replaced my battery and it still didn't work. I was ready to buy a new remote when I watched your video. Duh, the battery was in backwards. Thank you!
If the doors are nowhere near each other then you can use it without doing anything other than programming it to the new opener. If they are close you will have to make your opener "forget" the remote, then you can program it to a different opener. I have videos on my channel showing you how to do those things.
I have a remote that does light up and the garage door opener works from the wall. I also have new batteries from battery plus. They installed the batteries and there are two in each one. This was done on two remotes for two garage doors, one works the other I cannot get to work together. I am almost to the point where I am going to get a whole new system. Does anyone have any suggestions please.
For some reason this does not work for me. I followed the instructions on the opener which is what he said here in the video. The light does not blink and will not program the remote? Any suggestions?
STEP BY STEP 1 Press and release the "learn" button on the garage opener (Not the remote). A light will glow for 30 seconds, that's the window of time you will have to do the next step... 2. Press and hold the button on the remote 3. Release the button when the Garage Door Opener lights blink. Congratulations you did it! Go celebrate with a Jamba Juice or something. If your light bulbs are burned out or you have a unit without them your opener will make two clicking sounds.
hi. I cant get into my garage either. the remotes stopped working and there is no separate entrance into the garage.. and the garage door is left locked.. any help, please.
Stupid Sears should have made it easier to access the battery. I had to force open my remote and made permanent groove marks into the remote sides. On top of that the little plastic retainer clips on the circuit board portion of the remote have all been snapped off (5 of them) because of my hard effort to try to separate/open the remote. They should have just made it a screw type of fastener or used a battery cover which could just slide off easily with a press of the thumb. Stupid engineers designed this remote!
You would think so, but on this device, the battery goes plus side DOWN. I've never seen this orientation on any other device, but this one is the exception.
This video saved my marriage. Thank you.

Wow i spent 10 min trying. After watching you i had it in 10 seconds. THANKS.

Same thing worked for me, very strange. I wasn't expecting that at all! Go figure....
Ditto! I replaced the battery, cleaned the contacts - no go. Just for the heck of it inserted the battery with the wrong orientation (+ side up) and pressed the button - no go, as expected. Re-inserted the battery correctly (+ side down) now it works!! Must be the COVID 🤣

Thanks- Not mechanical and I was stumped until your video!

Did not work for me. Same button as opener with the flashing light?

Thanks for posting this. Helped me program my remote. 👍👍
Thanks so much worked like a charm, great channel.
WOW.. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH YOU SAVED THE DAY FOR ME....
Thanks for the video but I believe the battery was on correctly. The "+" sign facing up means the battery should have the + facing up as well.
Inside the remote there is a little circle next to the battery that says, "+ DOWN." This is unlike any other instruction that I have ever seen, but it IS what works with this device.

thanks it worked I was able to program my opener
with help of your video

Thanks! I really appreciated this. It was easy to change the battery, after I watched your video.
Fantastic video.... It helped me to change my remote battery in a few minutes. Thank you for explaining it so well.
The remote only opens from one side. There's writing on the back that says which one. Otherwise you might break little plastic holder pieces when you open it.
yup , read the back !
Thanks HBT, I was troubleshooting my sisters garage door opener and the battery was in backwards. All good now. Cheers.
You're right, it could be better but I did what I could at the time. I'll make a better one and upload it.

It worked! Thank you!
Worked great. Thanks
Thank YOUI! I had the battery in upside down!
Thanks for your video. I had my battery in backwards.
How do you reprogram the remote. Mine just blinks, rapidly, but no other response. Have to use wall keypad to operate garage door.
Underneath the factory sticker, there's a small hole with a screw at the end.
I turned it, but it doesn't open the backend until I saw your video.
What does the screw do?
My remote no longer works.
Was trying to change the battery.
Thank you. The labels on my equip faded, so I didn't know what to do.
worked like a charm- thanks!
good on changing battery, programming not so much.
Can you program the other buttons too only turn on the light? If so, how?
Thank you. I just had a falling out (well HE fell out going off on people while drunk) with my friend who is a door guy and my remote hadn't been working. When I put the battery in I had to reprogram the remote. Now I don't have to get out of the car to close the door manually from the outside keyboard. It was getting tiresome
HOW DO YOU PROGRAM IT TO CONTROL THE LIGHT!!!???
Thank you for posting this!
I replaced my battery and it still didn't work. I was ready to buy a new remote when I watched your video. Duh, the battery was in backwards. Thank you!
use the visor clip to open the remote. that's what it's for
Is it possible to reset a spare remote from another door opener of the same model, so it can be used on a second door?
If the doors are nowhere near each other then you can use it without doing anything other than programming it to the new opener. If they are close you will have to make your opener "forget" the remote, then you can program it to a different opener. I have videos on my channel showing you how to do those things.
OK thanks I'll check it out.

I have a remote that does light up and the garage door opener works from the wall. I also have new batteries from battery plus. They installed the batteries and there are two in each one. just one time to press that biggest button on remote,is that what you said?somewhere they said 3 times
Or buy a generic Lithium CR2032 battery at your neighborhood grocery store...
Thanks man....
Thank you so much for this!
For some reason this does not work for me. I followed the instructions on the opener which is what he said here in the video. The light does not blink and will not program the remote? Any suggestions?
Thanks for the post.
Super helpful
Mine wasn't working, so I tried programming it then replacing the battery and programming it again. Still doesn't work, any other tricks?
Thank you!!
Thank you
Thank you so much
It does not show how to program it, just a vague verbal description
it says on the plastic which end to open. You open the wrong end like I did and you'll break the plastic tabs
thank you so much!
the directions on the opener say to push and hold learn button while pushing the transmitter button....no wonder I couldn't get it to work.
STEP BY STEP
1 Press and release the "learn" button on the garage opener (Not the remote).
A light will glow for 30 seconds, that's the window of time you will have to do the next step...
2. Press and hold the button on the remote
3. Release the button when the Garage Door Opener lights blink. Congratulations you did it! Go celebrate with a Jamba Juice or something. If your light bulbs are burned out or you have a unit without them your opener will make two clicking sounds.
Glad to help!
Thanks
Would’ve been a smart idea to include the battery number!!!
Your thumb blocks the view.... and, on the other side, it says which side to open....
thnxamill!!!shazammmm!
Your 'programming' advice could use some work; kinda jumbled the last part about pushing the button again..?
nevermind.
I think I was able to re-adjust it back, and it may be working again.
I cant get in my garage to program the remote
+joel arseneault ..thanks for the reply.. yes it was too old and had to replace it. Tried everything 1st. all good..thanks again.
hi. I cant get into my garage either. the remotes stopped working and there is no separate entrance into the garage.. and the garage door is left locked.. any help, please.
Hi
NOT MY WORK TO PROGRAM MY NEW REMOTES, i CAN PROGRAM THE OLD ONE AFTER CANCELLING THE PROGRAM BUT NOT A HELL THE NEW ONES
Bye

🤪
lol
the battery was right you put it in wrong
You would think so, but on this device, the battery goes plus side DOWN. I've never seen this orientation on any other device, but this one is the exception.
bad video........why wouldn't you show the opener if you have to press a certain button on it.
The positive side + should be up, the original battery was inserted correctly. You inserted the new battery in wrong. Duh.
Actually, your wrong @ 2:04 It Clearly shows on the plastic case + Down. How do I know you may ask? Well I just got mine working. Duh/.
And I had to flip my battery around. and then it worked.
Unclear reply, which way does battery go positive facing at you or down into clam shell?
Clearly says Down...it's on the clam,,,,,look @ it.
Thanks for posting this!
Thank you!
Thanks
