The truth is Subaru, Toyota, and others made more expensive models and less of the base models. The cheaper the model, the quicker they get sold. The more expensive the model, the longer it sits on the lot. The manufacturers are sitting on a bunch of expensive cars that few people are interested in.

The "truth" is, you forgot to mention price. A 5%-10% discount on a vehicle that is overpriced by 30% is why people are waiting to purchase new autos. The consumer automotive price index is still at parabolic levels and a sizeable return to the mean is the next move. I'd say, take a look at the discounts around June/July to gauge whether to purchase a new auto. Get more of them bigger discounts going and then you will see the purchases you would like to see. Pro tip for those looking to buy now... Look for autos that have been on the lot for several months. Deals can be made on those that have been sitting around a while.

Also by June or July the 2025s will start coming so dealers will have to discount the 2024s to move them to make room for the new model year...

the problem is the amount of money out there. they lowered the number of cars made. and number of customers is big. so, they r following this 'classic' supply-demand game and they inflated the prices *A LOT*!

I ordered a 2024 Forester Premium (with added options)on October 26th 2023. There were no Forester's on the lot.....2023 or 2024. I received the 2024 December 6th 2023. Of course I had to pay full MSRP......but not over MSRP. I paid cash, plus had a trade-in. The color I wanted was Ice Silver Metallic. The dealership attempted to find a 23 or 24 Forester in that color, but none in the pipeline. I did find it strange....the trade-in value was $2000.00 less for the 2024 Forester vs the 2023. So I'm glad I got the 2024 vs. waiting for the 2025. Overall I really enjoy the 2024 Forester. Great vehicle!!

We likely won't see full customization because of cost. The more combinations you have, the more production lines and higher cost. However, Subaru does allow you to build with quite a few options. You can choose between color, trim, accessories, and features. Features like the moonroof, heated seats, leather/cloth interior, blind spot detection, power lift gate etc come as a package but you can opt-in/opt-out of these by choosing among the multiple trim levels and packages offered. The Outback alone has 12 different combinations to choose from when you look at trim level/optional packages.

My Subaru app says $13,500 but the dealer said 10k. The dealer gave a ton of reasons why the My Subaru est is a perfect world. I am going file a complaint with Subaru corporate, their trade-in value is misleading.

My luck is bad last summer my truck finally died on me after 25 years and i was desperate and wanted to buy outright. Planned on getting a Toyota because of good reputation and longevity. Once i found out it would cost me in the 40's i said lets check out Subaru Foresters. Shocked to see only a handful of the higher priced vehicles on most dealership lots. Bottom line i settled for a premium Subaru Forester for one reason only because it would arrive in 4 days. I paid alittle under the sticker which i never did years ago it would be thousands less but different times i guess. Just disappointed with interest rates higher there are finally cars on dealership lots. I probably could have saved st least a grand if i bought a Forester this month. Oh well thats life. Side note car seems pretty nice after 1,800 miles a big change since i never bought a new car before only new pickups in the past 40 years.

Congrats on your Forester! Many dealers were still selling Foresters at full MSRP just a few months back so it sounds like you got a great deal. Let's assume though that you could have got an even further discount from what you already received. Renting a car or dealing with maintenance on your old truck could have easily been more than the potential discount on the Forester.

The wilderness model you will be lucky to pick and choose anything you are looking for. All at msrp or in transit. It’s still a supply and demand market and Subaru knows how to play it.

Hi Alex, thanks for the awesome Subaru content! I have a 2023 Outback limited I actually love it but we do feel we need the bigger engine at some point and we were thinking of trading my limited for a touring xt. The more I am Researching the more I feel like I should try to do it now. Would I qualify for the guaranteed trade in program to get a new Outback if I bought mine new? Well, if I was a dealer and had a chance to get a "2033 Outback", I would make you a GREAT deal! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 All kidding aside, I would think you'd qualify for the guaranteed trade in. In fact, I would imagine that you're probably receiving occasional offers from your Subaru dealer to buy your current OB. As a FYI.... if I was going to buy another OB (I'm very happy with what I currently have), I wouldn't trade it in before I checked to see what Carmax would give me for my OB. Sold my '10 Chevy Malibu LTZ to Carmax, and received $2900 more than what I would have received on a trade-in at the dealership. Put all that money down on the principal of my new OB's loan. My '22 will be paid off by the end of '24.

I bought a Forester Sport on the last day of November and their financing at that time was 4.9% for 3 years. Also got about $2000 off in discounts and no-charge accessories of my choice. I was kind of ticked off though when their marketing department sent me email about the 1.9% financing for 4 years. It would have made things so much easier and also $500 to $1000 cheaper if I would have stayed committed to paying it off in 3 years. I emailed my sales manager and griped. He responded by saying that things change but I got the best deal I could have gotten in November so just be happy about that.

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  2 месяца назад

Getting a discount at all on a Forester back in the fall was difficult to do so I'd agree that you got a great deal given the market at that time. I know for me personally we only did that on end of the month deals. For example, if we needed to sell just one more car to hit quota, we would discount the car to get it sold before the end of the month. End of the month/end of the year is always the best time to buy for this reason.

anyway, no glass shattered on my Subaru Forrester, no airbags deployed. And I thought for sure when I got home, because I decided to continue driving since I was in a rural area on the highway, that the driver side passenger door would have a big dent. as I drove back towards Raleigh for another hour, the Subaru Forrester drove fine. The highway in front of me was brightly illuminated. All my turn signals worked, although the left turn signal was a little spastic, but after all, that is the side the reindeer hit me. But it drove perfectly fine. When I got into my driveway, I backed in because across the street was a street lamp and my door cracked open and there was a small dent on the driver side passenger door but what I discovered was something much more dramatic. The last driver, side, headlamp, the grill, and that whole panel was taken out, I chuckled and I said, oh I always wondered what was under the hood. The car was totaled and get this! This 2021 Subaru Forrester base trim, held its value! Yes, it was assessed as totaled but I got $25,000 for it, and on top of it, when I went to buy a new Subaru, Forrester, Johnson Subaru of Cary was able to get me one from the state of Virginia, which is about three hours away from Raleigh, and I got it at the exact same price point as what I paid in 2021! I was utterly amazed. I plan to write Subaru of America because I want them to know how terrific Subarus are. I tell you if you’re a parent or anyone who’s looking for a car you cannot go wrong with a Subarus it has been over three decades driving Subarus and they are simply fantastic. And I am not a person who goes in for bells and whistles and heated seats, etc., if that’s your thing, go for it but the base Subaru Forrester is such a fantastic vehicle. They also put a life time powertrain warenty in the 23 like my 14 had. They put 3 cvts 2 axels and 3 wheel bearings in that car under warranty. I did have to replace the exhaust in the 14 at 49k it rusted at the flang welds. Life in a snow state and dirt road living.

@PatriotSteve maybe. But at least it cost nothing in repairs or rental. Then again my nebiores 2020 is in the shop for the cvt inspection and reprogram at 18k. Now they have 25k on it and it's back in for noise over 40mph.

Debating between keeping my old legacy or buying a new forester. Might wait till 2025 models come out

Why no mention of number of Foresters?

Totally missed that one! Not sure why I left those out 🤣 We had around 10 Foresters available when this was recorded.

With Japanese Manufacturers Purposely restricting supply, I will wait and even have to buy a chevy lol. I could possibly be buying 2 new cars within the net 2-3 years but will wait and use mine or buy used until they rust away!
