such a sweet person to help me, i am finding that yarny ppl really do stick together and also help the noobs like me out :) god bless you for taking the time for this
I love the first method , for me it gives more definition to my blankets. On another topic I was when younger told that I was crocheting wrong and that if I wanted my projects to be called "crochet" I had to change the way I crocheted to the "right way". Thanks to you I crochet the way its most comfortable to me, I hold my work and wool in my right hand and also the rest of my work in my left hand for balance. I know it's more like knitting but it works for me and thanks to you stating there is no right or wrong way I can enjoy my hobby again. xxxx
I have always joined my squares together with sewing: lots and lots of sewing. I knew they could be joined with crochet, but I was never sure exactly what I was doing. Of the 3 methods you showed (all of which are lovely) i think i prefer the third one - slip stitching from the back. Thank you for sharing.
Don't get me wrong, sewing definitely has it's place and is awesome when you use the tails of the squares themselves but ughhh I'm just too lazy 😂 If I can avoid it, I absolutely will LOL x
All are just lovey, no matter which you choose to do. Robin I really enjoy watching your work. You go slow enough to understand. And your techniques are easy to follow. When I forget a crochet stitch I come to "Hooked by Robin" because I know I will find, & understand it better.👍 Thanks so much.💗
oh you must have read my mind!!! just yesterday i was trying to think of a maybe new way for how i wanted to join my squares together for a blanket. such perfect timing!! thank you!!
It's as if you can read my mind. I just started stash bashing by making up granny squares & I too hate sewing them together. Thank you for always being such a great resource!
Thank you Robin. I rescued a project from a thrift store that contained 32 completed 4 inch Granny squares and 6 matching 8 inch squares. Now I will know how to finish the project.
I'm with you Blue..I love the last method! Finally I can overcome my fear of joining my Squares! I have at least 3 afghans to finish! Thanks Blue! You're the best!!!!
Robin, thanks so much for this video!!! I hate having to sew blocks together!!! Yaaaay!! No needle!! Love these ways of joining! You rock that crochet hook!!! Take care!! 💕🤗💕
Having just finished a blanket where I sewed each granny square I said never again, but all the lovely comments made it worth while when it was finished - ha! I'll be using your tips in this video for the next blanket though ;)
Hi...I am most grateful to you to show us the three methods of joining. I too prefer the last one, the invisible one and the same color. You have been most patient and your instructions are very clear. I just sat down once and I think I have all three methods understood. I thank you and appreciate your patience and knowledge on this joining of the grammy squares. You are a very clear instructor. I plan to see all your other videos Robin!!!!!!!!!
Hello Robin I watch all your vids on RUclips. I learnt to crochet during first lockdown thanks to you ❤ I've made so many of your blankets and three scarfs 😁 thanks Robin.
I can’t thank you enough! You are the only video with a detailed explanation on joining vertical and horizontal. I loved the 3rd method, I was struggling so much and your video helped me find a method that works me. ❤️
@@HookedbyRobin looks so pretty except for the corners. They look messy. I am doing the third method. Im going straight including the the 2 chains from the corners. Then when going vertical, I try doing the same plus chaining 1, but it looks really messy. Can you help me figure it out. ❤️
I am so glad I found your channel. You have taught me HOW TO CROCHET😊 I have struggled for years. I am making a coccoon granny square cardi. Using your squares video and now the joining together one. Robin you are a fabby teacher🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for theese 3 methods, I'm impressed as always. I see that most of your wievers are preferring the 3rd method, not me, at least not yet having not tested all of them but I love to really see what I've done so the most protruding method will be my cup of tea - I believe.
I like the looks of the last example. Slip stitching on the back looks good and is easier to hold the squares as you work across. Thanks so much for another great tutorial. Much appreciated.
@@HookedbyRobin I have a question, I am working on a pdf pattern I purchased on etsy that calls for 3 different hook sizes, it is an older pattern, the blocks use an I hook, the border an h hook and joining calls for an f hook. I am worried that it will warp my blocks, because it calls for a zig zag slip stitch
@ashortyb411 I'm not Robin, and wonder if you finished in the time between then and now, but I've found that most often when it calls out a smaller hook, they want tougher stitches. You don't have to use the f, I personally would use the h hook and just watch my tension. Oh, and you will need 3X the length of your seam for the yarn.
@@HookedbyRobin I got so many WIPS going at the moment, my head is spinning lol. I do want to make a granny blanket but am going to use a bunch of odd colors that won't match so I thought that the raised join would be cool. Stay warm..brrr!
You won't believe this I was thinking of when someone is going to share this video. As you are my favorite you tuber I always check on your channel first. You make things easy to understand. 💖💖 Hopefully now I can join my squares 😊 loads of love ❤️
Robin on your 1st method with sc the ridge was always on the wrong side that is what i was taught 40 years ago. Love the 3 methods i slways got confused on the corners. Your way is so simple i have 50 some squares that have needed to put together for about 5 years i do think i can do it your way. 🎉 Thanks for sharing with us Robin 😅
This has got to be the best vid ever.I really like the way you teach step by step.I have a huge bag full of granny squares that need joining ,so I will be using the first way to do it.Sewing them is so monotonous.
Thank You for this video, the joining method I liked best. Is the third option, mostly because it's invisible. From the top side and fairly invisible from this back. And easier because of how the squares are held, and the yarn to the out side of the squares.
Very easy explained I would love to small squares for a change and of all the videos I've watched this is the easiest for my brain anyway. Thank you for sharing

Hi Bethzaida, thank you for your kind words - they made my day! 😃 No Christmas tree video this year I am afraid but I do have a festive crochet video coming up at the end of the month, so watch this space.🥰
I tried the third method on a couple quick knitting samples I made, and it seemed to work well. I'm looking forward to trying it on an actual knitting project. I'm terrible at sewing and I'd be thrilled if I could use this technique. (But first I've got some crocheting to finish!)

Hello! First I have to say I love your tutorials!! Your explanations and showing are perfect for me. I feel even on the harder ones I'd be successful as a novice because of how well you explain things. As for your actual question, I do like all three, each one I was like oh I like that, then the second was og, I like that more, and so on. Someone else said that it would depend on the overall look you were going for and I agree wholeheartedly with that comment. But, the third on was my favorite.
Thank you so much Emmy, that is so kind of you. I am so pleased you like my videos.🥰 Yes definitely! Each one lends itself well to different projects.x
My fav join is similar to your 2nd flat slip stitch join. Instead of going thru back loop of both squares and joining with slip stitch - I start on front loop right & slip stitch, then front loop left & slip stich, repeat. It gives a beautiful flat zigzag join, very decorative. Enjoy!
😊Thanks once again Robin for showing 3 methods for joinning the granny squares. My preferred one is the 3rd one although i might try all three methods. I don't mind sewing and actually enjoy mending clothes by hand, but I feel like it's hard to get it to look really nice. For years I’ve done the first way… I didn’t know there was any other way! I figured it out myself in the 70’s when I began when there weren’t video tutorials and my book didn’t say how. 🧶😁
