These new, plastic, overly emissioned, overly computerized and sensored trucks are killing independent operators profit margins. Every little thing and you gotta go to a shop. With a truck like yours, if you're mechanically inclined, you can do 80% of your repairs yourself. The regulators pushing for all this new legislation know this, but don't care. That's why we're seeing so many great trucks being sold in Cali. Excellently maintained/ restored equipment that doesn't meet the new standards. It's a damned shame that people who've never done this for a living get to dictate over the industry.
@@tommy.unfilteredthe point is you'll be spending more time working on the truck and not running down the highway making money. A good, dependable pre-emission truck will be better for you financially in the end.

Mann, as a person was a diesel mechanic before I bought my truck, these new trucks not built NOWHERE NEAR as good as older trucks . They added emission stuff , had to shed weight to compensate for all that so they cheap out on wiring. My first truck was a Columbia day cab, got me home every time and never had motor issues. My current truck is a 05 international with an Isx, never had any major repairs besides leaks and general maintenance. Paid for equipment/ money management has really helped stay in the game. Do all my own work, easier to work on older trucks not a bunch of trash in the way
I have a Freightliner Classic XL with D60S 12.7 500hp. When I got it it had 1MM with the engine rebuilt. I drove it for 1.2MM and during all those miles I only change the lower end bearings at a cost of $400, that was all the work done to the engine during that time. During COVID we took the engine out, got the block and camshaft inspected, rebuilt the engine with original parts, new radiator, air charger cooler, fuel injectors, turbo, clutch, starter and power steering gearbox, all that for 18K in parts, and 3K in labor. I’ve driven it 200k miles since with 0 breakdowns. A friend of mine bought a used 2016 KW Vacuum cleaner, and has gone thru 3 ENGINES, $50K in less than 600k miles. I totally agree with you.
I'm running a 83 k100 cabover every day when I bought it it was what I could afford at the time love this truck its paid for a person dosent need a brand new truck to make a living. Keep up the good work
Just purchased my first truck 2001 Classic XL wit the 12.7 Detroit. I’m beyond happy with my purchase and I almost got a Cascadia a few years ago and it just didn’t feel right so I stayed patient and waited my turn. 💪🏾 old is the way to go.
You’re absolutely right I started off with a 19 89 Peterbilt, 379 and a 1998 great Dane reefer I paid $27,000 for the whole thing my truck had a 60 series Detroit the two units make me thousands of dollars and very little problems with them
I feel you bro.....im the same way.......im running my first truck a 2000 Freightliner century flattop 15k Cash and my 2000 utility flatbed 10k Cash....i believe older equipment is the way to go cheaper more reliable as long as you take care of them.....im very mechanically inclined and do mostly all my own work......i just purchased a 1999 freightliner century with the same pre emission 12.7 series 60...best diesel Engine every made in my opinion......

Make just as much as everyone else without a truck payment. I like the idea of bringing shit back from the dead, where no one else has a vision for what could be. Why waste perfectly good equipment.
And new can last long if you take care of it and stay on top of the maintenance. But the thought of a sensor leaving me on the side of the road don’t sit right with me
So true Ohio truck sales is great at buying worn out trucks and slapping a paint job on them and selling them for a 20k profit lol. If you know how to look at equipment you will see what they are doing.

Having a new truck can lead you into bankruptcy, for sure. Everything is so expensive and downtime. An old century with a Detroit 60 just goes and goes and paper logs. It's no question an old truck is better
Unfortunately, regulators are making it inconvenient to own these older trucks. I do agree with you though, I rather buy pre emotions truck with miss match paint and a good engine all day.

I had my 2000 international 9400 I since 2005. I used the same one truck everyday. one an only truck. I been in business for 18 years. driving for 26 years.
Newer trucks provide higher tax write offs which you need when grossing $200k plus. Also you’ll save at least $1500 per month in diesel OTR in a fuel efficient truck. The old trucks keep you at the pump. Most guys don’t understand the maintenance schedule of the newer trucks. You also should start off with an APU. It saves you from DEF issues.
$1500 a month is chump change compared to what a truck sitting at a dealership for a week or two waiting for parts will cost you in lost revenue. But I don’t really believe a newer motor will do that much better on fuel than a Series 60 driven carefully anyway.

I think the newer trucks can be efficient, just as a old truck. Stay on top of maintenance and don't over idle the def system. But yes personally I miss my 07 century class I had owned back in 2016 . I should have never sold it
Yes but I would have to deal with egr on some engines and 2007 is the cut off cause that it when dpf came about. The only 06-07 engine I would buy is a cat accert MXS and a egr can be fixed
They don’t understand the fuel savings and tax write offs for the payment covers the cost of the newer truck. These guys are thinking brand new but you really buy them for $50-60k with 350k miles. That’s the best way to buy.
I support you all the way. America runs on the business of trucking even though they don’t like to admit it. However, I predict that most corporations will eventually require OO trucks to be emissions certified. No matter how ridiculous it is. However, I predict that most corporations will eventually require OO trucks to be emissions certified. No matter how ridiculous it is. And one day the automated road train from major hub to hub will rule the day. And it’ll be electric, which in reality isn’t cleaner.
