Honestly, from a complete stranger, congratulations. No matter whether it fails or succeeds you made the leap to live your dream. As much as I’ve thought about it over the years, I haven’t got up the nerve to pull the trigger yet, but I hope someday soon good luck and be safe driver.
You sir give me the motivation to do the same! I start trucking school summer of 2024. Awesome awesome awesome my friend! Congratulations, you can definitely see how hard of a worker you are! Please know that I'm not trying to be a know it all, just tryin to help ya out - seems like when you are goin thru the gears, seems like you are lugging the engine a little bit, if so - that will kill that engine, detroits ain't made to lug down low, and it seems like it smokes quite a bit - is there a Pittsburgh Power box on that truck? If so - be careful, those engines just aren't designed for more than 500 hp. Just tryin to help ya out my friend, I was a truck owner for 28 years, and been around trucks all my life. New sub bro . I been an owner operator for 4 years now and times are tough now but you seem like you have good head on your shoulders.these times will pass, just keep grinding and stacking your bread and do the lil things yourself.
I’m struggling… I’m at a $50k/yr company job and I just can’t see myself here after my second year. I’m one year in, and I just don’t think I have a third year in it for me. After rent and food, I was able to pay off my student debt in my first year, and now I have about $22k saved up, increasing by $2.3k-$3k/month depending on personal expenses, food, and utilities. I’m not as new to driving as most people think I am… as for trucks, I’m not as familiar as I’d like to be, yet researching more almost daily. From what I’ve gathered, I’d rather puke out for a pre-emissions 379, and have enough in case something goes wrong to jump back in and go. It’s too tempting to go all out for a 389, although the 379 has higher ground clearance. It’s also tempting to just start out cheap and go for a 579 or even an alternative like a Cascadia or T680. In my current company, I’m seeing the pricing add up quickly for our 2007 truck O_O We’re at the point where we need to start replacing fittings and air lines, and the new 2023 389 has only blown a fuse and needed some adjustments and minor no-big-deal repairs. Where I’m getting at… is that I just can’t see myself struggling year after year at saving $35k or so a year until I can finally afford a truck plus maintenance afterwards, and I’m growing increasingly weary about relying on credit. I have all endorsements; would it be wise to jump ship next January and hop onto a higher paying company job like fuel hauling or cryo to get my truck faster? The job I’m at now is 80% labor, 20% driving, or some plus or minus combination depending on the customer. Driving is for me… labor? It’s great exercise but I want to stay behind the wheel.
