Ooh! More Mom call-ins, please. Love her! I would love to hear her opinions and experience on all kinds of things. She's another great voice to add to the mix...so friendly, and I can totally hear the family resemblance. Thanks for the book list. I don't pay attention as well when I'm listening to audio books: passive vs. active.

I just completed reading the Yada Yada Prayer Group series that was recommended by your mom. I am more your mom’s age so I decided to start with her recommendation. I would highly recommend this series to anyone. The prayer group of women are definitely a diverse group ranging from educated to not educated, poor to having nice places to live, ages from 20 to 50 plus, ladies with good backgrounds and ladies from prison, ladies from hometown America to Mexico and Africa, married, single and all between. Each lady is so different but they come together with the issues and fears all women face, no matter all those other differences. I love how this book has woven in what it is to listen to God. In those times where you are about to fly into trying to handle a situation all by yourself (and do a poor job, I might add) just listen for the voice of God and see what God would have you to say, what God would have you to do. You will find that life is a lot smoother if we listen before we act. After completing this series, I find myself thinking like Jodi and remembering to just stop, pray, listen, and praise and ask What is God telling me to do? It has impacted my life and helps me be less anxious and Reminded me that God is in control.

Audio books I have found very calming!!! I have driven over the years to multiple different states to take care of my parents and see family.
During 2019/2020 my father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Between that and the pandemic it was a very stressful time. I had to drive from Colorado to Illinois every two weeks to care for him, so I read/listened for ours. It was such a wonderful experience!! They were so calming and helped me to keep from falling into a deep depression as my father passed on.

The Mitford Series on audio. That’s where it’s at, especially if you have a hard time getting into it. Speed it up a little and you’ll be hooked! - I like fiction on audio because I can track what’s going on much easier than non-fiction while I’m doing other things. I love all formats, though.

I use my Kindle whenever possible. Initially wasn't a fan, but it's been 6 years or so and love it. I love the smell of real books, but at 51 my eyes don't focus as well up close with my contacts in, then I love to be able to read without a light, change the font size and background color to brown and cream. That's not all! LOL The fact as Dawn mentioned less clutter and if I'm borrowing from the library easy "pick up" and "return".

I’m in my mid-fifties and always got my books 📚 from the library. I read 2 books/ month. Had to get an e-reader at the start of the pandemic when the pandemic started because can’t sleep 🛌 if I don’t read first. Now i just borrow ebooks from the library. Real book or e reader, i can still get engaged in either one.

Im a paper book girl. However, being a minimalist I wouldn’t keep the book unless I knew I’d want to read again. But I also love to share. So I could find myself sharing the book with my grandmother, or friends, or giving it away to someone I know will enjoy it. Sharing is so fun!❤️

This is so wonderful to hear this morning. Thank you, Dawn and Diana for taking the time to compile this list. In the past few years, I switched back to fiction. Being in my late 40s with our two children finally grown, I had not read fiction since before getting married even! I think I felt that I needed to learn and be the best parent ever so I kept reading self-help and how to books on parenting and child development. It wasn't until our youngest turned 18 that she said, "Mom we're going to the library and you are getting a book with me!!" Imagine that?! what a blessing our daughter gave to me that day. I stumbled upon the Tearoom Mystery series written by authors through Guidepost publication. Imagine my delight when I realized that it was a series that kept going up to 27 books! After finishing the 27th book and not knowing of another good fiction book that was Christian, I just began the series over and now I'm on book 7 LOL I agree with everything that you said Diana, regarding empathy and just lowering stress level. I have found that going through this Series has helped me in the ways that you've mentioned even being more open-minded excetera I am just so so thankful for both of you in more ways than one but today I feel thankful that you brought about this new list of fiction Christian books. Because truthfully, I might not need to go through this series for a third time even though it would be tempting haha I'm excited to look at the list now and I'm especially happy that the books are "series" because I get that nostalgic feeling if it's just one book. I love to schedule my Bible time and my fiction reading at different times during the day because they bless me in different ways! I do enjoy auditory books as I'm walking or driving but mostly, I prefer the library and having that book to hold in my hand. I think it is a great compromise between being minimal and not having the Clutter of books but it feels like you're owning something for a short time but don't have to keep it and that's fun. Plus, I just love the peace and calm of a library visit. I'm adding you girls to my prayer log...Diana, for a healthy pregnancy and rest on the way and Dawn, for keeping balance in your days among all of your fun activities. I super appreciate you both! ❤ It's like having two best friends along with me on my morning walk since I'm listening to this auditory as I go.
Diana, you look so beautiful during your pregnancy and I love that blouse. Dawn, your hair is especially pretty how you have styled it lately!!
    Happy Tuesday 🍥🍨

Absolutely LOVE the Mitford series! Just got rid of pretty much all of my fiction books, but I did keep that entire series ☺️ And, I'm not sure if you realize it, but if you do have the Kindle versions like Dawn mentioned, and you have an echo Dot, you can have Alexa read it to you while you're cooking or doing dishes or something. And one last comment I'll make is, yes absolutely listening to fictional audiobooks do have the same effect as reading them. I just listened to The War Room, and it was just like the movie, and I totally got caught up in it. The other side of it I think, is that it improves your listening skills ☺️

Has to be paperback📚❤️. This coming from a total book worm📚🐛😂
. The smell of a brand new book. The feel of the pages, and the weight of a story one is about to embark on. The satisfaction (or heartache, depending on if you are enjoying the story or not😅😂) of looking at the top of the book and seeing the progress you are making in a story based on the placement of the bookmark. Health wise, keeping off of my phone close to bed time( If you have not heard of Shawn Stevenson and his book Sleep Smarter, or his podcast The Model Health Show; one topic he talks about is how blue light coming from our phones and screens are suppressing melatonin ( ( a hormone needed to help us sleep at night.)), making falling asleep harder, and taking longer to get into deep rem sleep. I highly recommend listening to his health journey story, and reading his book Sleep Smarter.).
    I love this channel ❤️
Thank you for making a channel that is fun, entertaining, and a joy to watch.
Keep up the great work, and God bless you🙏❤️☺️

We purchased the first book of the Wingfeather Saga (by Andrew Peterson) at a homeschool convention right after it was published, we were hooked immediately- the entire family loved them and we waited with great anticipation as they each came out. Initially we purchased it for our youngest who has dyslexia, he had worked so hard to overcome his reading issues and this book sounded like the perfect “bribe” to get him to want to read….. and it was! They all were ! But we really did not expect that we’d all love them and read them together as a family in the evenings. I predict that this series is going to stand the test of time and be as popular as The Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings!!!!! We have have all reread them many times and our set is very worn, I’m going to order them again for my youngest (who is grown now) so he can have a fresh set of his own.

You ladies do a great job of explaining the benefits of reading fiction. You might be amazed at how many times I've heard people (usually men) scoff at the suggestion of reading fiction, saying they only read non-fiction because they want to learn something. May 2nd duty station in the USAF was to Japan, and although I was never much of a reader, and especially never chunkers, I picked up "Shogun" by James Clavell for something to read during the 21 hour flight to Japan. I learned so much about Japan through the protagonists experiences described in the book. From bits of basic language to understanding the history, customs and logic of a foreign country.
I like to read physical books. Now that I've finally gotten new reading glasses after several years of blurry vision, I've been reading more books. If a book is especially difficult, I would read with my pencil and make notes in the margins to help me stay focused, but lately I've been able to put down my pencil and just trust the reading process.
I've read a couple of Kindle books, but they feel too much like computer work, although the ability to look up words, and highlight passages and make notes on Kindle is attractive, I prefer the paper pages. While I was having nearsighted issues and doing a lot of driving, I replied mostly on audio books. I find I can only listen to an audiobook while I drive long distances, such as out of town across states and the country. Once I get into cities where I have to concentrate on navigation, I'll pause the book. I can't concentrate on an audio book at home, and I can't just sit in a chair listening to an audiobook because I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. I haven't tried listening to audiobooks while walking, I prefer to listen to the birds and nature around me while I walk.

Thank you both for compiling this list. I am a 62 year old empty nest audio books reader. As a young family we started listening to Focus on the Family Adventures in Odyssey and other books as we drove back and forth to town and on trips. We also used to read aloud to our son. I love Irene Hannon and have been looking for more Christian fiction. You both have been a blessing in my life. I need a lot of quiet in my surroudings to be able to actually hold a book and read. Many life changes have occurred since those days and during this phase in my life my home is filled with TV and machine noise and little quiet except early morning.

So glad you are promoting "the joy of reading", especially in the summer. Even reading a book, in the shade, under a tree, is a great way to reconnect with nature.
I "rescue" discarded books from our local book swap and bring them to "the little library" in the park. (People really enjoy the library and appreciate me filling it up if it is running low.) I also bring my own book to read on my walk. This, along with "my hobby", motivates me to go outdoors during the warmer weather.
I haven't gotten into audiobooks or reading them electronically. I like taking the books that are not in the best condition with me to the beach because it is easy to get water on them after a swim.
Love your outfits and Dawn's earrings. Hello summer!!!

Thanks for starting this book club. I try to read when I come home from work. It is tempting to run and check my email, but it is so much better for me if I make a cup of tea and read. I can confirm that reading reduces stress. I have listened to audiobooks in the past; I had a long commute and would listen on the way to and from work. I found audiobooks to be expensive and would borrow them from the library. I enjoyed that way of reading also, and sometimes, I would be introduced to a great novelist via an audiobook and would then go to the library and take out more of that author's books. Happy summer reading!

Now that I am retired I cherish the time I have to listen and the soothing motion of the handwork have worked to bring me such pleasure and I thank God daily for this season of my life….

Thanks for the suggestions! I have just recently discovered the Mitford series and am in love with it! Such a cute story line and light reading. I personally read on both kindle and paperbacks, it just depends on what I have in front of me and where I can get my books. :). Audio books are great for road trips or if I just want something to breeze through while I clean or do yard work.

I love to listen audio books when I am taking care of the dishes or cleaning. Less distracting than videos. I'm a busy Mom who doesn't have as much time as I would like for reading. Audio books allow me to still keep up with my church book club. I found it relaxing to listen to the book while lying on the recliner with my eyes closed. Thanks for sharing some new books to read.

I love this video! I have been having a hard time emotionally this yr & have been asking the Lord what I need to do to get my mind in a happy place consistently. Im also a stressed busy homeschool mom btw. The Lord has been leading me to read fiction. I didnt know why, Ive wrestled with 'did I mishear Him?,' but I have tried to keep reading and trusting the Lord knows me more phychologically than I know myself. So when I saw this video today I was like 'YES!!!!' Believe it or not, the Lord really knew what He was talking about 😁😁😁(duh). Also, this gives me a list now to choose from, which I very much need. Thank you ladies!

I recently went through a time of severe anxiety and panic attacks. Along with counselling and medication I would say that reading positive fiction books at night was one of the biggest factors in helping me lift out of those episodes. It is a habit I now use every night and I no longer dread night but sometimes can’t wait to get to my bed so I can start reading. I also highly recommend the yada series and Mitford series! I couldn’t get enough of them once I got into the characters.

I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. I always checked out the maximum number of books at the library as a child. Life got busy and I didn’t have the time to sit still and read as I had in the past. I discovered audiobooks and fell in love with reading all over again. I mainly listen when i am walking my dog twice a day and on my lunch break. If the book is really good then i will listen while cooking, driving and doing chores.

Definitely paper books for me! I love everything about them- the smell, the spine cracking, being able to hide behind them, the feel of the paper, and the friendly way of carrying them around wrapped in your arm like giving a friend a hug. And there’s nothing like a trip to the library going though the stacks seeing them all lined up, the possibility of a new adventure. I do believe they are gentler on your eyes. No blue light. The Mitford series is one of my all time favorites.

This year we listen to all of the books in the wingfeather saga on audiobook in the car. It took us a long time since usually my husband is riding to church with us on Sundays and not much more than that LOL. We have a seven, 10 and 13-year-old. We all love it and they gave us so much inside jokes etc. I believe the first book was the hardest to get through just because there’s so much to learning all the different names etc. I couldn’t believe the connections my seven-year-old made to the Bible and this book as well it’s amazing

I love all the historical fiction by Deeanne Gist! She really captures the era and place and transports you there with her. For me, it needs to be a real book that I can hold in my hands to be relaxing & enjoyable. There's just something special about real books that takes me back to getting my first library card as a little girl, the smell of the old city library, the sound made by the card punch machine when you were being checked out by the librarian... wonderful memories of a lifetime of reading! ❤

I didn't see Denise Hunter on the list and she has some great modern day Christian Romance but my all-time favorite is anything by Jody Hedlund. Historical Christian Romance with a wonderful message and always a happy ending. Many of her series are based on real events and are well researched so you even get a little history lesson in with a load of empathy and Christian life lessons. I cannot say enough good things about her books. I knew her from a missions trip years ago, and she is just as wonderful in person as you would imagine her to be from reading her books.

I use my i pad or listen to audio books. I really love falling asleep listening to books. I have a headband with flat headphones and I set either a timer or listen to the end of a chapter. If I fall asleep it’s easy to back up and it stops my brain from goin from going into overdrive at night.
