  • Have you ever wondered what tea represents in the world of Avatar The Last Airbender? Well in this video we are going to talk about the importance and representation that tea has in the story and characters (mainly Uncle Iroh) of this franchise. Tea plays a big role in Avatar and we will break this down in detail for this video. Enjoy!🍵
Avatar: The Last Airbender is a show set in a world where human civilization consists of four nations, named after the four classical elements: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. The series is centered around the journey of twelve-year-old Aang, the current Avatar and last survivor of his nation, the Air Nomads, along with his friends Katara, Sokka, and later Toph, as they strive to end the Fire Nation's war against the other nations of the world.

Its like what food represents in most shows- bonding and deepening of relationships

I'd like to think that the tea represents wisdom. Iroh has his wisdom perfected and tried to share that wisdom to Zuko, Toph, and the mugger.

Tea probably never became a Water Tribe staple since they didn't have tea leaves. I can see drinking broth being sufficient, although not the same.

My game handle is called 'dragon of the west' rn. I can't remember who did it but I saw a video on why iroh is such a good role model for positive masculinity. He's not afraid of being emotional and usually can talk his way out of fighting but if he needs to he's rock hard as fk. UK term calling someone hard means someone you wouldn't want to fk with.

That's an interesting way to look at Iroh and the more I think about it you might be right. I think Iroh would be a great role model for dudes.

@@uncleirohsteashop *master samwise* "The pinnacle of masculinity". *sages rain* has touched on this concept too. *Cinema therapy* also spoke about him being as close to a good professional therapist they've ever seen in any media. This from an actual therapist. It makes sense that zuko and the team actively seek him out for advice when aang disappears. It also wouldn't surprise me that other than gyatso, he's also a major role model to aang's adult years as an avatar. They never really speak much about it in kora but I can imagine much of how aang managed conflict resolution is from his interactions with iroh. Also the fact that zuko names his grandson after iroh just melts my heart.

@@uncleirohsteashop I majored in psychology at uni but my degree was in applied social studies. I love cinema therapy and watching them gush over atla brings me great joy. I was also taught how to fight from an early age, so watching the styles of martial arts they used in atla is also fascinating to me. Any great show has good character development but I'm not just talking about zuko. There's so many good ethical points in practically every episode. But a show that makes you actually love all the main characters flaws and all is a testament to why it's still loved to this day.

The water tribe would not drink tea (at least in ATLA) due to them not really having any plantlife that could be made into tea. But that could be something that can happen during the LOK era and byond through things like trade and such (tea leaves perhaps get exported from either the earth kingdom, rupublic city, or even fire nation.)
