Just got mine. It came with a zip tie. I couldn't get it tight enough so I ended up using elastics to hold it to boot. Other then that I love it. Feels like in my hand
Thanks to the basics of this video, pulling the boot and knob, how it’s constructed, this was a 20 min install. Once you get the assembly off there are four big tabs that hold the boot to the factory knob, if up pry those away with a large screwdriver the boot slides right away from the factory knob. There is no need to assemble the BFI assembly with the knob in place, install it with the lower threaded portion, I took note of the position of the Allen lock bolts for ease of access to tighten in relation to the installed position of the boot. Finally screw the knob in place then loosen the Allen bolt top center to align the thread seem on the knob. I personally aligned the seem toward the rear center, I don’t want to feel the seem as I shift, don’t really see any reason to align it center forward. Man this knob feels great, shortened the shifter considerably. After spending the cost of a three year old Civic on my MK7 in mods this simple cheap upgrade is very satisfying.
Hey man a little off topic but do you know how to replace the park brake boot on the mk7? Looking to make both boots suede but no info on how to do the e-brake, thanks in advance!
Hey Grizz where did u buy the adapter for the shift knob or did it come with it already, I have a mk4 golf and I wanna install the Dbz ball shift knob but the stick isn't threaded and I can't find a threaded adapter for it, help please?
Yes, this shift knob is considerably heavier. The stock plastic one has no weight to it and is a bit flimsy in my opinion. The BFI fits in the palm of the hand and makes for crisp, sharp, and faster shifts. Most definitely worth it if not only for the aesthetics but the drive-ability as well.
But it looks like the original GTI five speed knob from the 70's! and the plaid seats too! So retro. But I dig what you've done to your MKVII thus far! Loving mine, keeping her stock for a few years!
+Oscar Matthew Cantos With lots of patience I'm sure you can salvage it but i didn't care about the stock knob so I wasn't exactly worried about breaking it.
+Cole Gebhardt (ASCENSION STREETWEAR) Great to hear I could help a fellow VW owner and thanks for watching brother. If you want more DIY's and build updates be sure to like and subscribe! -Brandon
You can do it I have faith in you! If you can't take the stock boot off the stock knob then I would recommend buying the aftermarket boot from BFI and just using it with the knob. Easier install and you can revert to stock whenever.
Has anyone ever learned how to properly installed a BFI shift knob with the metal wire that comes in the kit? I too end up using a zip tied, but I was wondering how do you even use that shit? lol
Ok, so obviously I'm one of those noobs that doesn't know wtf he's doing. I've just spent 45 minutes in my car trying to remove the boot. It won't budge an inch. My thumbs are actually sore from trying so hard and I don't want to break anything. HELP!!!
Thats interesting I think it looks much classier. But its mainly for function. It really is much better for speed shifting especially when paired with a short shift kit.
I believe it, the factory ones really really light which is a little annoying. If someone made a heavy factory repro with some quality I'd buy it. I kinda think the same thing when it comes to the tail lights, every one's raving about the LED Euro lights.....they look like crap IMO, makes the stock ones LED and they'd be the best by far.
+MechRider89 I agree the stock ones are nice IMO, LED would make them perfect. Not really willing to shell out the $1k+ for taillights anyhow when I can get an IS38 turbo for around the same price.
What an overprice piece of &%$# , we spent 3 hours putting this thing on my sons VW CC. Came with no paperwork of any kind or instructions on how to install , if it were not for the fact I don't think we can get the factory one back on I'd sent this thing back to them with my love.
Just been trying to find a video about what rims you have on your gti. I’m loving the look of them.

Where can you get that swayed boot with the threaded top, because I really need one of those for a custom shift knob.
Link in the description! :)
Hi I didnt find the right link for those boot with the threaded top can you help ?
Has anyone had any issues with the set screws backing out; causing the shifter to become loose?
Loctite buddy
Very good video, and very helpful, I’ll be installing my knob and boot from karbon kings later tonight, I’ll be back with an update when I finish lol
is this pretty much the same for a mk6?
Basically

Do these knobs sit lower than the stock knob

I don't but I will be buying one soon too!

The BFI knob comes with it's own adapter, however any universal thread adapter should work for universal aftermarket shift knobs. I would try eBay.
GrizzlyTV Which adapter would you consider best?
Super helpful, most of the vids I see for the bfi installs are for the automatic transmission
I got you.
how does it feel? When I drove a mk6 the stock shift knob had no weight and it was horrible. Is this shift knob heavy?

+MajesticMalice Definitely going for the stock-ish approach! Thanks!
will this fit a 350z manual 04 ?
Unfortunately not.
Dude how did you take off the knob from the boot??? I gots to know
It will be the longest and most epic battle of your life. But a heat gun and a flat-head screwdriver help.
So would I destroy the thing that is connected to the boot?
+Oscar Matthew Cantos With lots of patience I'm sure you can salvage it but i didn't care about the stock knob so I wasn't exactly worried about breaking it.
I sent a pm on Facebook I'm also member of the mk7 international group. I'll send you pictures of the thing that I was asking
Are these knobs for specific cars? My homie had one on his Sn95 Mustang !
With a bit of ingenuity I'm sure this could be made to fit on most cars.
@@TheGrizzlyGarage True he installed it over a month ago and tht thing looks nice in the the car with all black interior!
Helped a lot, almost identical to mk6. Thanks brotha.

Are those seats stock
No those are the Corbeau RRS seats
GrizzlyTV yeah I saw it after 👍
Hey Grizz! Where did you order the aluminum light up cigarette lighter doo dad ?
eBay! Type in wolfsburg cig lighter.
Also used a zip tie for the boot, much better than that clamp!
Yeah clamp was a pain, ended up using a rubber band but a zip tie will definitely last longer.
I donno how many of u guys noticed , At 1:24 cigg lighter and shirt color changes , again at the end of video 😉😛
Good eye lol
Fuck it I cant do it.. it's too hard to get the boot off

wait.. what's that thing in the 12V outlet ?
a 12v outlet cover .....

Lmfao the world may never know.
You use pliers to tighten the steel tie. Just like a plastic tie but with tools :-)
Didn't know you could get an mk7 without push button start
+JC61990 Yup lol
Ok, so obviously I'm one of those noobs that doesn't know wtf he's doing. I've just spent 45 minutes in my car trying to remove the boot. It won't budge an inch. My thumbs are actually sore from trying so hard and I don't want to break anything. HELP!!!
Remove it from the OEM knob?
You already done everything off cam
If you wanna see me on cam it's gonna cost you. And no kinky shit.
Installing a $160 knob but is too poor for loctite wtf
How tf am I supposed to afford parts if I spend all my money on loctite bro?
Hahahahhahahahhhahahahhahhaahh loctite
I like the factory knob way better, the black forest knobs just so plain looking.
Thats interesting I think it looks much classier. But its mainly for function. It really is much better for speed shifting especially when paired with a short shift kit.

you and me.....we think alike! as ricky bobby would say...."I wanna go fast!"
Hahaha! Yeah I'm definitely a Function > Form kinda guy.
"Back with the zip-tie now" Puts down metal zip tie, to grab plastic zip tie, cause he cant figure out how a metal zip tie works, lol
Be real, metal zipties are confusing af.
This is not a mk7 gti
It has a handbreak
The european golf gti only have a button 😭
+pommertotoHD Welcome to America.
