I just received mine in the mail today, watching this vid before hand made this install stupid quick. Looks great and works great. They weren’t kidding about the heavy duty housing either it’s a paper weight. They keep making products ima go broke, 100% better than my original vw setup.
These knobs look amazing, next in my list.
Edit: My GLI’s interior looks way cleaner with the knob rather than the plastic dsg knob
how much better does it feel?
I thought the tutorial was a little lacking at first, but it really tells you all there is to know for most models i assume as there isn't much to this. Just put one on my B8 S5, took about 30 minutes to complete. I didn't experience any binding when engaging the shifter as there are just 2 set screws for this one that tighten a coupler at the bottom of the mechanism. There is a little play if you twist it, but not much and the only time you should need to twist it is when you put the knob on. I will say for anyone going to add this to your audi, there is a trim ring/bezel that goes around the outside of the shifter you have to pop off to get the boot out. Its very thin and flimsy plastic and i unfortunately cracked mine at the top taking it off. Other than that, totally worth it to me because it looks damn cool after its in!!!! Thanks Black Forest!!!
We really appreciate the feedback and glad you're enjoying the new knob.
The place that did our gti ziptied the outside of it. Installed correctly, just did that. If it's this simple I'll just change and fix the ziptie myself 😂
what’s that adaptor called by bfi
can i use medium strength threadlocker?
Does the BFI shift knob sits higher than the OEM shifter?
Can you buy the DSG adapter separately? I can't find it on your website. Only the manual adapter. I bought a BFI used shift knob for my 2016 MK6 Jetta GLI, but no adapter to mount it to my automatic DSG shifter.
No others have emailed and they always reply with no. You can’t get the adapter separate. 😥
so you have to buy the adapter with the knob?
Is a little wobble normal? It rattles slightly when I manually shift. I can't tighten set screws too much since it won't move if I do so
Yeah, turn the knob .back and forth ever so slightly. I was wondering the same thing.
would you guys happen to have a video for the B8 /8.5 S4 , i need to replace my shift know w my BFI sitting in box. does not seem as simple removing the whole panel on S4
Does it matter if the shift button is side facing or forward facing?
No, it does not matter either way. Works with both styles
Can you make a video of a mark 7 manual with the adapter?
Love the music 😂
Is this the same process as the manual shift knobs? If not, how is it different?
Great video
Mine installed great. But I still have a little twist movement in the knob. Everything works great and the knob is screwed tight. But it kinda has a very small movement if I twist the knob. Normal or no
That is completely normal for a DSG knob, there needs to be some play for the lever to move
Yes a SMALL amount of twist is inherent to the factory shift selector rod. We cannot engineer this out without causing binding issues which is less ideal. The small amount of twist is just a compromise for having such a cool knob and completely changing the mechanism in a cost effective manor.
@@blackforestind Can you explain what you mean by shift binding? Looking to pick one of these up for my 18 S3.
I accidentally purchased the automatic version for my manual VW 😢
It would be OK to do I guess if there were different "coins" for the top the BFI logo just doesn't do anything for me a blank coin would be better. Just My opinion.
i want to put a katana shift knob on my dsg golf how can i do that 🙏🏻
1:13 is hilarious. The tabs on mine stick out way further than that. Prying on it will definitely crack the outer ring. VW must have changed this later.
Different vehicles will have slightly different retaining rings - same general principal though. Some are alot harder to remove than others..
Does anyone know which model that is suitable for VW Transporter T6?
Is this the same way it's applied to the mk6 gti/gli dsg.
Yes, it's very similar for the MK6- there are slight differences but overall the same procedure
Any for a mx5 2016 auto?
Is that the Magma or Rosso Centaurus color?
Will this work on an A4 b7 automatic?
The knob will work, but the B7 A4 does not have a shift boot - and we don't yet have a cover for the mechanism of the shift knob.
I wish the video went into more detail about how to tighten the set screws - this is the cause of a lot of frustration for me to be honest. It should also be clear just how much wobble there is at the top of the shifter.
Anybody else order from them and still haven’t gotten their stuff months later?
Took over a month to get mine. Didn't say it was not in stock on the website. Didn't get a backorder email or anything. Had to reach out to them a few times before it came.
Hey guys, It's the same process for an automatic knob ?? (No DSG)
Yes! The Auto and DSG use the same shifter assembly
Knob
Hello - I'm unsure if my knob ordered is for DSG or not. The black "adaptor" is not as long as the one in this video and I don't understand how I'll be able to use the selector. Might I have received one that's only for manual?
Kevin Baird i have the same issue
@@bencrider8736 I had to return and get a new one. I will say the fitment / install wasn't great. I ended breaking a piece needed on the Gear Assembly and had to "Jimmy it". It's ok but wasn't so straight fwd of an install.
Is there an easy way to make sure that the boot will be properly aligned when you are installing it on the knob?
With the shift boot flipped inside out you can still see the seams, you just need to align them the same as factory before tightening the zip tie. This is very straightforward if you have the parts in front of you
What color shift knob is this? And what shift knob color matches the red in the enterior the best? Magma or Rosso?
This is a Magma knob. The Magma is less saturated / more muted than the Rosso. Both look like a match because there is not really in large solid red fabric in the interior. It's really your preference if you want a brighter or darker red
Would this work in a 2014 Touareg with tiptronic?
Yes it will!
Is there anything else I can use other than that locktite. I didn't get any of that wirh my kit. Plus when I tighten all three screws. It want lift up for me to put it in gear
We highly recommend the loctite. You can also purchase that locally at the hardware stores. It is necessary to prevent the screws from backing out
Permatex. It's basically the same as loctite, just a different brand. Having some around is a good plan.
2015 gli how do i remove the shift boot or base?
Just the same as shown in the video
Hi!
Will the knob fit on Polo 6R?
Should work with that, yes
Any joy?
do you post to UK?
Yes, we also have a dealer there www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk
Will these work for b7 PASSAT
Yes they will
Could this work for a dsg mk5 gti 07
it does
fit for mk6 TSI DSG?
Yes, will work with that
2 hours later lol, brittle plastic and horrible leather disintegrating in my hands lol beautiful! More shit to buy eh!
Seems like it is not properly installed. The beep at the end of the video means the shifter trigger was 'partially' engaged while the door is open. The shifter will not be able shift out of park, but it will make a beep with a warning on the dash saying 'Door cannot be locked, please shift to P'
It does take a few tries to get it to shift properly. Open door alarm, shifter in park...frustrating at first till you get it right.
Mine shifted properly from the start. Sounds like install error.
Only got 1 set screw in the kit...
Apologies for that. If you could email us we can get you sorted out! Thanks!
@@blackforestind do you have a proper email address? I received the parts from ECS
@@TheHike84 It would be the address on our website - www.blackforestindustries.com - sales@blackforestindustries.com - However if you purchased from a 3rd party, we would suggest contacting them first. Thank you.
Halfords do a good en only £15
what?
Link?
For a company that you spend almost 200 bucks for a shift knob, the instructions are awful, send you 1 screw of each with no spare and it’s obvious you’ll lose them.
A big thumbs down on this video. How about taking the time to make a step by step video with words. I mean it is a $185 shift knob I purchased. 🤔 It would be smart to mention don't tighten the set screws too much or it won't move.
Honestly, its not explained with details thay are required.
Your shift boots are atrocious products. Terribly made. Just got mine and it's crooked as all hell. It's too thick and it snapped my shift boot frame when trying to set it in place due to the thickness of the leather and the stitching on the ends. You should sell them with an integrated shift boot. Buy a 3D printer and get on that. Just charge an extra 10-15 bucks. Did a qucik google and found this is a problem for many trying to install your shiftboots. Hopefully Urotuning refunds me and I'll buy the integrated boot/frame that's sold on ebay. Very disappointing, I run you motor mounts and a shift knob.
$200 for a shift knob...
This knob has only the nice look , you will never be able to have a nice and firm feeling when handle it! The problem is the design, loose the ball, it will be easy up and down! If you tighten the ball too much it will make the 4 screws rub with the stick! I spent the whole afternoon to install it on my GTI, it's so imperfection! Massive regrets
Bob, you might want to make sure that you have event tightened your screws following these instructions -blackforestindustries.com/instructions/DSG_Shift_Knob_Instructions.pdf Do not tighten in a circular pattern as this will cause the knob / adapter to bind. If installed properly this will have a smooth action and the knob will return without binding. If you are still having issues installing this, please email sales@blackforestindustries.com. Thanks!
I was honestly worried after reading this review but I had mine in and running within 35 mins.
@@zcarracr18 any jiggle/shake movements? any issues? just ordered for my s3 today...
Yes, it jiggles and shakes like crazy but if you tighten the screws too much it’ll bind and not pull up. I hope you have better luck with shipping than I did too. Waited almost 3 months for mine. 100% worth it looks wise but functionality is incredibly poor.
@@zcarracr18 shiiiiiii should I go with another brand?
How about a video without the music?
Worst installation video , how about one for Actual audi vehicles as well
Does this work for toyota vios 2003 in automatic gear?
No , sorry this is for VW / Audi only
