I am 52 yrs old and I started Surg Tech school in Aug 2021, and I love it! Shane I love watching and learning from your videos! Thank you so much for all that you share! I can't wait to start clincials this august.
This video is 4 years old, but the things you said our valid today as well.
Hey, so On Monday is my 3rd week already in my first job and I can't tell you how much I'm loving it. Again you helped me out soooooo much to get caught up again. This is my first job as a tech and Iv bin out of school for 7-8 years now.. you have noooo idea how much you helped me out. I was wondering if you can do a vid on draping, and how you set up your cords and suction.
Great suggestion.
Wow robert me too👋. I graduated maybe 10 years ago and i'll be starting my first tech job Monday. I am so nervous having been away for so long but im trying to do a crash course of these videos as a reminder and also to rebuild my confidence.
Monique B they helped alotttt, good luck :)
Thanks for another good one Shane! 👊🏽
Thank you for all the information videos on Surgical Tech. You have literally saved me from being a disaster in the OR. Im about to start my OR internship and my anxiety is through the roof. I have been watching all of your videos 10X over!! Can you do a video about taking off your gown and gloves after a surgical case? Thanks
Thank you for posting the videos! I am looking to start a program this summer and they are so helpful! Hopefully you can do another live Q&A this summer
Microbiology is EXTREMELY fun!!!
when I first saw this video I was thinking you were crazy for saying you enjoyed microbiology due to all the bad things I heard about that course; but I ended with a 98 & also LOVED micro. my favorite class so far in my program. surprised myself lol
I agree that you are a great teacher.. when I went to NYU for my program, I had a teacher that only came in on Fridays to teach the "tech" aspect of the job. And he worked in the or the rest of the time. Just sumthin to think about
Good thought.
Hi teacher👌
What's up Dave from Detroit
My teacher says that as a surgical tech a good way to increase pay is to switch hospitals every two years so do hospitals not usually give raises or how does that usually go?
Wow, cool...a surgical tech channel on YT!
I also found your patreon, I'm going to donate to you as soon as I can, it's bin 3 weeks since I got payed so I'm really low on money lol
More !
I would really like a video explainging how to drape and set ut the light, camera, bowi and placement of diatherybags in laparoscpic surgery. I find often that somethings "crashes" and are in the way of the surgeon or the fiels.
Do/can on call staff stay in the hospital to decrease wait time for emergency surgery cases?
When I had to get emergency surgery from a post op complication, they had a room ready in 10 minutes.
I got the notification, but when I came in there was no sound. So I get to do a rewatch.
I messed up the audio in the first stream, ended it, and restarted another....My fault there. It should be flawless for the next live stream.
Dang I missed it ! By an hour, when do you announce when you are having a live feed ?
Yea I would love to know that too. I hit the bell and stuff but didn't get a noti from it
I posted it up on RUclips, as well as the facebook page 3 days in advance. Unfortunately I don't have control over the posts...so I don't know who gets notified.
Surgical Tech Tips also I’ve been wanting to ask this for the longest time ever, but keep forgetting. Do you need to be a U.S citizen to be able to work as a surgical tech ? I’m currently a DACA student and want to pursue this career but I’ve heard RN’s need to be U.S. citizens and was wondering if it’s the same for techs ? I’ve done some research but can’t seem to find a proper answer, or is there anyone in particular I can ask ?
Hey, I'm a nurse living in sierra Leone, working under the ministry of health and sanitation, I have been a scrub nurse for over 10years with and Italian NGO Doctor with Africa (cuamm).I really appreciate your teaching. Do you have any online cause for people who are interested.
Can you PLEASE help me understand the difference between surgical assistant and CFA. I’m finishing up my Surg tech Associates degree right now and would like to start thinking of my options for my next step. Google search really doesn’t break it down for me.
I was attempting to be a patron, but the page would not open. Is there a setback with the patron sign up page. If not I'll try later. FYI No response needed.
I’m in school for surgical tech and this area I’m struggling and feeling really really discouraged, can anyone give me some study tips or anything that could help me ?
Would it be a great idea to start out as an Instrument Room Tech?
Do you mean Sterile Processing Tech? I would say yes bc that's the very bottom and you'll know your instruments very well by the time you become a Surgical Tech/ Surgical First Assistant. Like my self, you would even be able to demand a higher hourly rate than your other new grads in the same surgical tech program since you'll have medical field background nd know your instruments.
Hey guys! I really want to go into Surgical Tech training, but I am struggling to find a way to make the hours work with my retail work schedule. How did you work and get your schooling completed? Any tips? Thank you!
Montana Evans, I kept a job at Dunkin’ Donuts with the 4pm-10pm schedule. That allowed me to have my clinicals 7am-3pm. That is how I did it.
could you do another livestream and inform us before you do? cause i'm upset i didn't get any noti that you were live
I posted it up on RUclips, as well as the facebook page 3 days in advance. Unfortunately I don't have control over the posts...so I don't know who gets notified.
How do you keep from burning out
Also Surg tech on my 3-4th year and still consider myself a noob
Hello i was wondering if a 15 month program was good to take as a surgical tech i really wanna join the field but am worried maybe the 15 month program from a for profit college will get easily overlooked! i just dont wanna spend so much money to do this just to struggle to find work..
Hi my opinion is that the school may not get overlooked but the lack of experience may, which is something we all face in this field as a new graduate unless you are lucky enough to get hired by the site you externed with. Best of luck.
You don’t have to stay up to be on call. Go to sleep. They’ll call if they need you.
Lol I know I'm commenting a lot, sorry... have you never had to tell a preseptor or a teacher that they where doing something wrong? This week I noticed a tech that's bin there a while doing her open glove backwards. She was taking the outside of the cuff first touching the sterile part first with her hand... and I asked her about it and she thought she was right. So now I'm second guessing my self... so when I got home I looked back at your gloving vid and also went back to my text book to make double sure.. I was right she was doing it wrong... now I had to tell her she was doing it wrong again, It sucked... I didn't want her to get mad at me or have her think I'm "that guy" who always tells ppl they are wrong.. I'm not lol .. I just didn't want her contaminating something and potentially hurting the patient bc of it. It went good when I told her again. And she's doing it right now. But it wasn't an easy thing to do. I geuss that's where ur surgical conscious comes into play.
It sounds like you approached her in a respectful manner. The patient must come first.
You did the right thing, and like coop said, it seems like it was in a very respectable manner.
I'm new there, and for the most part a new tech.. that thing you said about not saying "I know" they taught me that in school too, almost word for word what you said. I just don't want them to think I'm going to correct everything and be that know it all guy.. thanks for the reply's made me feel alittle better about the situation
Question: whyyy are people allowed to wear jewelry in the OR? 🤔
