Retired in 2016, but I been working PRN two days a week since. I have been enjoying my job as a Senior Certified Orthopedic Technologist in the Operating Room. The I love for the past 49 years. But, yesterday the hospital I worked at told all PRN Staff they have to let us go for now. They cancelling all electives Surgeries for now. I don't have to work, but I missed what I do. But, if things get worse I will return without pay. That is how was trained in the Air Force, to served above all other.

Jessica Rodman , I’m in Montana. Used to work in the Cath Lab as the secretary for 18 years at the Billings Clinic. I was just reading on our local news station, KTVQ, that people and schools with plastic printers are stepping up and making surgical masks!! Proud of my community!! Take care. I'm a RN in Washington state. My hospitalist friend is using her painters N95 from home. Same issues here w all masks. I was kind of shocked at the extreme firing on the spot at your hospital. These are desperate times, so I see both sides. Not many kits around here for testing. One ER Dr on a vent in Seattle from Covid, a UW professor died from it yesterday. Just read this evening 2 nursing home pts tested positive in another facility in central Washington. thank you for the update in Nevada.

My sister works at the hospital in my town (she’s a circulating nurse in the OR) once people started stealing gloves and masks the hospital stopped visitors (with the exception of dying patients), they are closing the OR (with the exception of a couple that will stay open for emergencies) on Monday (all elective surgeries will be cancelled that day) and the rooms that are closed will be used as ICU overflow.
My sister is terrified as she has underlying severe lung problems. She was exposed the first time almost two weeks ago and for as long as she’s exposed to it or even possibly exposed she’s isolating herself away from us.
It is definitely getting scary, but we need to remember even if we’re isolated, we’re not alone, we have the power of the internet, stay connected, use Skype or FaceTime instead of having face to face gatherings. Stay healthy everyone, we’re all in this together ❤️

It's also important to mention that an estimated survival rate of covid 19 is more than 90%. It's mainly elderly people and those with preexisting medical conditions that are most vulnerable. Hopefully, after more young and healthy people will contract coronavirus and fight it effectively, we will get a decent herd immunity and everybody will be safer.

It’s interesting to see that what you’re describing is so similar to where I am even we’re in different geographical locations. N-95s in the safe. Other masks secured and you have to ask for them. Nurses get one mask per day. Techs get one per case. No breaks to minimize usage. No elective cases. Amazing how things we took for granted in order to do our jobs are now a serious consideration. Praises to my coworkers and to all our colleagues around the country. Also special thanks to our environmental services personnel! Some forget about them, yet they’re on the frontlines with us. Everyone stay as safe as possible and help each other b

So is there any word of where outside doctors and nurses could/will be brought in from to help highly concentrated geographic areas? For example it was organized to fly docs and nurses from other Chinese provinces via military aircraft to Wuhan to help tackle the shortage and exhaustion. What are your thoughts? Yes it is truly a shame realizing our country is unprepared. On such a massive scale of infection it had been realized that "formalism and bureaucracy" hinder fast enough intervention. I think a lot of approaches will sadly have to be jerryrigged. Thank you for all you do. I wonder if part of the screening of patients could be to pump out as many lung CTs as possible prior to taking action or before making decisions for their care. CTs are very expensive however :-/. Having to step out of your normal profession and help with whatever is needed must be a stark reality. Keep your chin up.

To be honest, the situation you are experiencing is just like what happened a month ago in China. as a meds student, I understand how desperate it was to see all your colleague and tutors were send to the front line (Wuhan) when there were not enough food and sanitizing equipments! And in some places, med staff were forced to do so, or your hospital will suspend your license to perform medicine. And there were many chaoses in the front line at the beginning! Just believe things will get better. At the very beginning, like 2 months ago, our government recommended wear mask in any circumstance you might encounter a person outside your home, and just like the toilet paper in your country, all kinds of masks has been out of stock, in hospital only the emergency department can got N95 mask and goggles, and every staff can only get one mask per day on their work day, which has not been changed till this moment. ALL the public places has been shot down and we student were asked to have online courses. BUT as you can see, China has got through this, so maybe just try to be less nervous, ignore all the news if it make you more nervous, and enjoy some pure family time

Babie- Marie after going through half of first semester, I don’t know if I can see myself doing it and wanting to be a Nurse. I want to be in an OR and I am not smart enough for a doctor and I don’t really feel like going through another year of training for an OR nurse when I can do everything I want as a CST

It doesn't take a democrat to see how this was downplayed by the Trump administration. I'd like for this not to have been a political issue but the way the US healthcare system was stripped in the last few years and the way the public were encouraged by the president not to wear masks... it's caused a lot of harm. I'm not being anti different perspectives when I say this. I don't care about how someone feels about how much income tax someone should pay. This is more serious than that. Looking after healthcare workers and protecting the nation from deadly pandemics shouldn't be getting ignored by the Trump administration and as recently as a few days ago Trump is still refusing to wear a mask. He has never and still doesn't take it seriously. He is lucky that people within the government continued to raise awareness even whilst his admin was ignoring it. Remember how he said it would disappear by April.
