Watch part 2 and also watch the lastest video on my Facebook page so you can see what it looks like against the whole door. I have to tell all the neigh sayers this....
If anyone is interested in spray painting the greatest success that i've had was by following the Magic Painter Method (i found it on google) definately the best info i've followed.
Looking at all the hate comments here. Are you folks blind in one eye or something? He did a decent job and it restored the interior nicely. Scratches are gone, replaced with a grain type texture. Maybe that's why people are bitching, but more prone to believe it's people looking for something to be unhappy about.
Ya I'm not sure either. Maybe they thought it was suppose to be smooth after? I just wanted to show an alternative to traditional paint, because most factory painted panels turn out like this over time. People seem to be half and half on this one.
The panels in my 350Z have been redone matte black and it looks really good. The dash hasn’t been done and there’s some minor scratching so I think will do that next.. just a bit of work for a few scratches 😂
Just use a scotch brite pad or 400+ grit sandpaper to knock down the texture of the truck bed liner spray and then paint again in color of your choice. Use satin or matte clear coat if you don't want it shiny.
You should do several thin coats of a lighter silver metallic paint (after a primer of a preferable light color ; white or grey) followed by a matte clear coat. Lightly sand with 1000+ grit sand paper ( to your desired finish ) giving the panel a brushed aluminum finish.......in my opinion it would contrast better with the interior.
I put on a carbon fiber replacement panel for the door trims and it just goes over these scratched panels. Better than painting it. It looks way awesome. Got the panels from ebay. Up to now, its been 5 years and the panels never scratch up. Still looks new today. Long term protection for the door panels.
an alternative is to use automotive trim black paint...the final sheen will more closely resemble the original look... it is sold at most all auto parts retailers... Duplicolor brand is best
I just got one of these at auction...fantastic solid engine filthy n beat up cosmetically but I am having fun exploring. I was curious what the previous owner did to scratch up those panels...great content
Thanks for the video, Anthony. As an alternative to sanding the panels bare, how about using paint stripper? It looks like there are plastic-friendly ones, potentially allowing folks to skip heavy sanding...
Although I probably wouldn't have gone with truck bed liner, I don't believe the final result looks as bad as some people in the comments are saying. At least it looks better than it did before! I enjoyed your video! Thank you for the upload.
+Jonathan Keith The way I look at it is, this way is like being with a girl that's an 8 till she's 65. or the other way is a girl that's a 10 but when she's 35 she turns into a 6 with age. Get what I'm saying?
AnthonyJ350 Haha yeah man, I understand! I'm surprised at how easily the stock paint chipped. Went from a 10 to a 4 real quick. I can live with an 8. Especially if she's a good cook. lol
I got an awesome deal on garaged 2006 Z with 18,000 miles for 18 Gs . The lightweight wife who drove it had a small dog that loved her very, very much. Your video ends the problem her dog left for me to solve. THANKS!!!
I wanted to know how others were painting their interior trim because I'm looking to do it myself and thankfully you've uploaded this video on how you went about doing yours. Specifically on how far away one should keep the can away when spraying and it seems the general rule of thumb is to do light coats. It's all artwork, and I love all of it. Everyone has their own personal preference. Thank you for sharing your creation :)
I have a 2007 350 and my pannles and not like that at all. They are made from black plastic and they look perfect. I guess the 2007 and 2008 got aome interior upgrades as well.
Mine look the same as yours in the video. Same buttons in the same location. I cant imagine that part being different between years. It would be a waste of money for Nissan. Maybe just buy a driver side one and try to install it. See if it works.

@@AnthonyJ350 thanks i will try that. I am also using duplicolor vinyl and trim paint not sure its a good one or not. Im so frustrated this is my third time painting after two resands haha. Gotta start somewhere!
Anthony, where did you get that tool to remove the panels/guards, and what is it called. I realize I could use a butter knife but I am a tool junkie and love to get that tool. Your tutorial on replacing the coils really helped. Thanks. Richard
can you show me how to remove the plastic circlen around the airvents on the doors and the small plastic behind the door handle from the inside of the door it has the same scratches
Really nice and clear video mate. I have a question, I used primer (grey) then silver metallic as a basecoat on a plastic then after drying I used clear coat but soon as I sprayed the clear coat the primer (grey) colour appears isn't that weird? What m I doing wrong here ? Appreciate your advice
Sounds like the clear is just making your silver look like the primer. Why not just have the base coat and no clear coat? Or try laying the clear on in thinner coats?
thanks for the reply, the reason m using the clear coat is to make the car interior trims more glossy and plus the base coat is not fully drying waited 2 days and still its bit sticky. m using spray cans
+Bryon Payne thanks boss actually I used baby powder after the base coat and that kinda works for me but I have other pieces to be painted I'll defo use your advice on those thanks bud !
Bed Liner lays down a little thicker perfect for older cars/trucks this help keep the panel from wiggling and feeling loose plus the extra grip graps on to surrounding panels just giving off a better build feel. I love using bed line works great for mirrors and bumpers as well I like to leave to surface more abrasive then when using a normal paint. Bed line likes to peel.
Dang..With all the hate, i was expecting it to be horrible. It looks better than it did and he clearly stated that this was a option he chose as there are many if you dont like the look. People get on youtube and talk crap cause their life sucks.
Steven Pruitt A lot of people don't like an idea if it's not conventional. And yes I wanted to show people something a little different and it's much easier to paint with this stuff.
No, it's simply a bad result because not only did he use the wrong type of paint, he used the wrong technique for both the paint and the clear. Just because you don't understand how something should be done and therefore don't realize what's with all the "hate", doesn't mean that people aren't giving proper criticism and not actually hating.
@Jay Dee I don't think the hate is warranted... BUT... I reckon the biggest mistake he made ignoring the paint choices was he didn't take all the black rubberdised paint off. The black rubber paint has really terrible adhesion because the grey plastic underneith is shiny. He should have scraped the paint off, light sanded the grey plastic then painted with interior paint. That's what I did and it came out perfect.
I found out that plastics are not made from silver color. The silver color is primer. You can peel it off and you will see that plastic is black. So, black blastic, silver primer, and then black paint.
Incredibly knowledgeable. Wow! I wish you were here to fix my bmw door grips (as part of the door panel). The dealer wants $578 for the door panel; this I’ll have to try to paint it.
Jonathan Reed Make sure you clean and prep it well to help it stick. You can see my older videos and they have held up well since I made this video. It's not for everyone but works for me.
I've got some glossy gray bezels just like yours that have paint coming off with the white showing underneath. I was wondering what grit you started with when sanding?, Im considering using rustoleum 2X paint/primer and finishing with their crystal clear enamel. Thanks!
+Chris Casas You have to remove the whole door skin to get at the screws behind. I have a speaker install video where I show you how to remove the skins. I just touch mine up with a sharpie cause the damaged areas are so small lol.
hello nice tutorial,i am interested how would you solve that if the trim has a special surface like an orange or vinyl leather has?If you clean it with wet sands you will eliminate the surface so it will not look like OEM look anymore
Curious how this has held up since first posting. Going through the sanding process presently, but curious what to expect in terms of longevity. I'm going with primer, flat black, and matte clear coat. Thanks a ton for posting this video.
Looks the same. If you look at my Facebook page there is a video of me testing the system and you can see the whole door how it blends in. My hands can be greasy some times from work and it doesn't affect the finish. It's not for everyone (as you can tell by the comments) but it looks the same over time, which is the point.
The first year 350z plastic interior parts were not painted they were actually color coded to each car the later 350zs Nissan started painting the interior parts and caused the paints to chip
That's an interesting idea, it is plastic. You would have to do a lot more prep and make it perfect, as the product shown here "builds up" to help hide imperfections.

Also there are companies that do mobile work for repairing repairs. They would be able to paint the panels for a reasonable price.
could have had a nice finish but you just dusted the clear you need to apply clear heavier than regular paint to get a nice finish then after you can wet sand and buff it to get it perfect =D
Do you want a super perfect finish on something you grab at all the time though? Remember people wear rights and stuff some times. Ever look at painted cars from factory like the PT Cruiser and Beetle for example?
@@AnthonyJ350 Ah, so you literally have to *push* it in there forward? I was just getting it under it and leveraging it up. That'd explain it, lmao. I've only ever worked on Toyota sedans, and never did anything electrical on those, so I'm fucking stupid rn when it comes to Nissan sports cars, sorry.
AnthonyJ350 Here in Europe I never seen this issue. Not on car meetings or any car that I wanted to buy. It's just black plastic underneath. Maybe because its an European model. I also saw the American models have tiny little brakes and not big brembo brakes. Here we had only one model.. It always has ESP cruise control everything full option. Europeans are really demanding for interior.. Some people say my 350z looks like Chinese plastic toys inside ha-ha. Also all models have leather seats with heating.
***** I wish ours were black injected moulded plastic as opposed to being painted. Ya Brembos are optional on these cars, I just recommend good rotors with ceramic pads and stainless braided lines. For the people that don't like the interior I would tell them all the money went into the forged aluminium bits on the suspension and carbon fiber drive shaft. There is so much development in the chassis, so I can see why the interior is not up to BMW standards, but it keeps the car more affordable. Plus if they're so rich they can afford to get it redone right?
+Mike Rousseau No sure, there are some people commenting they don't have the same issue, but they seem to be in different continents. You can just scroll through the comments.
+MrRangerZr1 It's quick, durable and easy to repair. Watch the latest video on my Facebook page and you can see these panels in the interior with the rest of my install.
MrRangerZr1 Well the funny thing is, everyone that doesn't like it, doesn't look at the door and the interior as a whole. I'm not trying to be cocky, but everyone that gives this look flak probably doesn't have a car as nice as this. I put this car together in my spare time in 8 months. Some times you just need to try different things. You saw how bad those panels were, that would have needed a ton of sanding with high build primer, just to get started.
AnthonyJ350 dam I'm about to paint my car wing had to do it twice to because it had some bad texture but it was cause I didn't sand it after I primed so now I have the smooth finish
ok first of all you cant be all nice and professional in the youtube comment section that part of the internet is for people to insult each other now to your video its just a typical teckie thing the guy who thought you how to do what you do ...did he had one of those things i guess no ...you don´t need it ...its not better or faster than a screw driver ( wich was good enough for generations ) i just conclouded that you where kind of trying this on a fly and for the first time oh and i ment by fucking up that you added a nother colour skeem to the allready full of greys and blacks interieur ....and why texture paint gonna be a pain in the ass to work with when you whant to change the damn thing
lordn22 So to sum it up you're mad because I talked back to you with the same language, I'm just educating people about other tools available to do a job which btw I probably take apart more interior parts in a day then you ever would in a year, so I understand the limitations of only using a screw driver. And I notice a few people don't like the end result in the video, but in person people like the simplicity, ease and look of the panel (I guess it looks different on camera). So don't get mad because I just show people tools they've never seen. That's the whole point, expose them to a different way they might find useful.
first of all im not mad i was positively surprised that you just asked me how you fucked up ...instead of calling me names for compromising your car and work . i just said that you cant be like that on youtube because especialy car guys just insult each other here ..... then thats the first video of yours that i watched and i did not know your professions and knowleges and when i saw that tool i theught you where exchanging experiance with expencive unnececary tools and the first thought that came to my mind was that you where about to f*** up . especially since interior is a pritty hafty job since you always look at it + you are going to tuch these pannels all the time ...thats why i wrote it now i have the oppinion that you where just trying to keep it simple but with a little more time invested i still think you could have gotten a nicer result in fact i watched a nother video on this topic bevore i watched yours and what that guy was doing was not all that harder ... he just invested more time ....and as you probably know the worst thing you can do when it comes to spray painting is beeing inpacent (by the way i´m german and my vocabulary is limited as well as my spelling sucks i know that, i hope you can get what i mean )
350Z owner and an old bloke, a serious question, how can so many car companies get away with this arrogant disregard for any level of real quality, this sort of thing is becoming more common, just a question , no answer required.
As long as it looks pretty in the show room and it lasts the "warranty period" and they get the sale. I look at the construction of newer vehicles, and I do not see a lot of them lasting 10 years and having the same operation. Manufacturers are treating vehicles like throw away appliances now. That's why you'll notice the newest car we own is a 2006 in my videos.

This video should help you out. ruclips.net/video/nLA9sSHpi3E/видео.html
And here's how to take it apart. ruclips.net/video/WUtExUNdWIQ/видео.html
There are aftermarket options
Yes there are.
could have had a nice finish but you just dusted the clear you need to apply clear heavier than regular paint to get a nice finish then after you can wet sand and buff it to get it perfect =D
Do you want a super perfect finish on something you grab at all the time though? Remember people wear rights and stuff some times. Ever look at painted cars from factory like the PT Cruiser and Beetle for example?
Keep it clean and your good I like keeping my car clean and a nice glossy glass like finish is just gorgeous!
Looks good 👍
Thanks for watching!
How would you paint a Hyundai sonatas 2004 interior?
Vanessa Rojas well you take the panel off then follow this video and then fit it
I leave plugs connected to switches in this case,
What grit sandpaper did you use
You can use 220 before primer.
I cant get the damn white connectors unplugged. It is really stuck in there.
You have to use a small flathead screw driver to push in the tab. Nissan plugs are brutal.
I used flat black engine enamel, looks like they are factory
Thanks for sharing!
what is that tool you used to remove the panels
Check out 12vtools.com
what's the name of that lil' gadget u used to pop it out
aaron napoles 12vtools panel removal tools. Check out their website
AnthonyJ350
koo thanks,,
I don't have this issue... and you said all 350z have this. But heck my 350z is a European model.
+Herman Willems You're lucky, because when I was shopping for this car all the panels looked like this.
+Herman Willems Here in Europe we have exactly the same issue with this part...
Didi78180x What am i doing wrong then.. my car get more easily scratched outside by little stones(black 350z). Inside still looks mint.
Can you use a hair dryer instead of a heat gun
You could
thanks,the video is very useful
+ibelushi Glad it helped :)
Couldn't you wrap this in Carbon fibre vinyl wrap insted of painting it?
You could
İdk why you did not finish the paint coat..
Just seemed like the right thing to do
is this any different through the years?
+Mike Rousseau No sure, there are some people commenting they don't have the same issue, but they seem to be in different continents. You can just scroll through the comments.
You like that finish?
+MrRangerZr1 It's quick, durable and easy to repair. Watch the latest video on my Facebook page and you can see these panels in the interior with the rest of my install.
+AnthonyJ350 Yeah it blends in. I need a guy like you in florida lol
AnthonyJ350 Yeah I loved the build. Nicely done 350z. Enjoy that VQ engine.
try foliatech from Germany this stuff ist amazing (Interieur spary)
Thanks for sharing!
That's amazing!!!
You had to sand it after prime and then spray the paint then the clear coat .
Steevnb * Can't stand the bad liner, it's textured.
AnthonyJ350 dam I'm about to paint my car wing had to do it twice to because it had some bad texture but it was cause I didn't sand it after I primed so now I have the smooth finish
i did not finish the vieo jet .... but the moment he said he bought a tool to get the pannels out i knew that he is about to fuck up
+lordn22 oh who would have thought this i was right
+lordn22 How did I f*** up taking out the panels? I work on cars for a living so ya I have tools to take apart panels.
ok first of all you cant be all nice and professional in the youtube comment section that part of the internet is for people to insult each other
now to your video its just a typical teckie thing the guy who thought you how to do what you do ...did he had one of those things i guess no ...you don´t need it ...its not better or faster than a screw driver ( wich was good enough for generations ) i just conclouded that you where kind of trying this on a fly and for the first time
oh and i ment by fucking up that you added a nother colour skeem to the allready full of greys and blacks interieur ....and why texture paint gonna be a pain in the ass to work with when you whant to change the damn thing
lordn22 So to sum it up you're mad because I talked back to you with the same language, I'm just educating people about other tools available to do a job which btw I probably take apart more interior parts in a day then you ever would in a year, so I understand the limitations of only using a screw driver. And I notice a few people don't like the end result in the video, but in person people like the simplicity, ease and look of the panel (I guess it looks different on camera).
So don't get mad because I just show people tools they've never seen. That's the whole point, expose them to a different way they might find useful.
first of all im not mad i was positively surprised that you just asked me how you fucked up ...instead of calling me names for compromising your car and work .
i just said that you cant be like that on youtube because especialy car guys just insult each other here ..... then thats the first video of yours that i watched and i did not know your professions and knowleges and when i saw that tool i theught you where exchanging experiance with expencive unnececary tools and the first thought that came to my mind was that you where about to f*** up .
especially since interior is a pritty hafty job since you always look at it + you are going to tuch these pannels all the time ...thats why i wrote it
now i have the oppinion that you where just trying to keep it simple but with a little more time invested i still think you could have gotten a nicer result
in fact i watched a nother video on this topic bevore i watched yours and what that guy was doing was not all that harder ... he just invested more time ....and as you probably know the worst thing you can do when it comes to spray painting is beeing inpacent
(by the way i´m german and my vocabulary is limited as well as my spelling sucks i know that, i hope you can get what i mean )
Thanks
You're welcome
It looks better in person
I know, tell that to the neighsayers lol
This is the only thing that i hate about my z now that i shaved the antenna and rear wiper motor
It's a little annoying.
My 350 has like 100k miles but all interior parts are perfect. Lucky me I guess
+Devin Boosack What year is your 350Z and is it in North America? Someone else stated they had a 2007 and there's was hard plastic and not painted.
04 touring
Devin Boosack Lucky. My buddy and I bought 350Z's this year and they both had this issue. And all the other cars we looked at had this issue as well.
What would be the cons of just using plastidip?
+Marcus_Mravik May peel off easier since that a part on the door you always touch. I would recommend a vinyl wrap if you're going that route.
+AnthonyJ350 why disconnect the switches make life easy undo the clips and not disconnect the windows switches.-_-
+AnthonyJ350 why disconnect the switches make life easy undo the clips and not disconnect the windows switches.-_-
Because you don't want to paint the switches.
+AnthonyJ350 He means why not leave the switches plugged in but disconnect them from the panel.
hi, matte clear coat is a thing!
Good to know!
What sand paper u use .bro
I have it on my 2007 g35
How do you like that car?
Im wrapping mine
Nice
Looks shity 😏
+Affectam Check out the latest video on my Facebook page where I run the system. You can see interior shots and also the whole door.
350 zed?? I didn't know you were Canadian?!
+Jacob Adamson Really? There's maple leafs all over my logos. Did you think I just really like maple syrup?
AnthonyJ350 OMG it all makes sense now!! Haha Idk how I was so blind?!
+Jacob Adamson Maybe I should start saying "eh" more after every sentence and talk about hockey randomly.
Thanks man!
Thanks for watching!
The before looks better than the after if you ask me.
+Forged Shaft Maybe nobody asked you?
sand. 3 coats prime sand smooth spray flat black..done
Brake paint or a nice gloss finish
That works on plastic?
...trzeba było położyć odpowiedniego koloru skórę, jak elementy były zdemontowane.
Well that's just confirmed my theory.....time to buy oem replacements!
Thanks for watching.
I'd just do the whole door panels a different shade or color and the same on what you just did.
Just doesn't look all that great with that grey panel.
Thanks for the comment!
