This is probably the penultimate sound of horror for me. From the first tone you hear after you exit the graveyard, you know the journey is gonna be more oppressive and horrible than anything. This soundtrack is so subtle with its violence, but it is raw and pulsating like an open wound. I love this. This is music and games as art at its best.
3:30 - 3:42 Jeez, that last couple minutes still kinda unsettles me! The fact that it's these strange noises that rhythmically repeat , but then suddenly, silence. And then it continues. and stops.
I always imagined the sounds at 2:46 coming from some huge, unknown creature living in Toluca Lake, rising up out of the murky water to let out a loud, chilling hiss.
When I was walking through the fog towards the town, I always thought the sounds at 2:45 were from some distant sawmill someone had revved up again, for reasons I didn't want to contemplate.
While the industrial scrape is nerve wracking to anticipate while exploring the town, it's still the disembodied voices that linger on my mind the most. Their unending laughter resounding through the skeleton town almost sounds human but is just distant enough to lose any of its human familiarity and warmth. In a word, haunting. Truly.
The reason why Silent Hill 2 it became a classic is because eventually people began to see how unique, eerie, melancholic and authentic the game's atmosphere it really is, and took the time to enjoy its deeply thoughtful narrative and symbolism. To this day it’s by far one of, if not the most mature examination of grief, sexual trauma, suicide, and morality all combined. It’s an intelligent game that does not hold anyone’s hand and comes at the player with utmost confidence in itself. It’s fantastic stuff. The rest of the original 4 are great in their own right and have their own well written stories, but they don’t hold the same emotional weight to them. I think SH2’s maturity by comparison is something that a lot of people are drawn to. ☯️

Fourth Silent Hill target to scare you when you traped in your own house. But subsequent games series is very low games.

If only the remake didn't remove anything and every sound and every piece of music was exactly like in the original and no scenes were removed or watered down or censored but just with these current graphics and even if the combat is this current combat, and everything was left just as disturbing and creepy. Still the game of the year but definitely not better than the original.
For some reason I think it sounds very similar to the section in the remake after you get out of the hospital. I don't know at what exact point it played in the OG as it has been 20 years since I watched someone in my family play the game back then. I know a lot of the original OST was reused or remastered for the remake. However this track misses the additional big boom sound you can't locate after the tension builds up in the remake. It sounds extremely similar though and I'm still searching for that absolutely dreadful ambiance.
