@@nickmore1154 Used to watch my mother play this when I was about 7 years old, starting digging deeper as I got older.. Love the symbolism and psychological horror that this game brings.
This moment is a rather powerful one. After witnessing the two Pyramid Heads kill Maria, James finally comes to terms with what he did to Mary and in doing so realized what Pyramid Head's purpose was, to punish him for the sinful act of killing his wife. James then confronts the two Pyramid Heads and after a certain amount of time passes or if James shoots at them enough, the two Pyramid Heads commit suicide by impaling themselves with their spears and they do this since James has confronted his demons and no longer has the desire to be punished, fullfiling their roles.
This track has a meaning.... as you can noticed, Pyramid Head is the guilt feeling made a monster, this battle is the chance James has to defeat definitively his guilt, he is in the middle of no returning back, thats why this track is a mix of hope and guilt...
It was more him fighting off his anger; frustration and other feelings that led him to murder his wife. Pyramid Head was those feelings incarnated into a monster. Attrition (definition): the action or process of gradually reducing the strength or effectiveness of someone or something through sustained attack or pressure.
This upload is already years old but I wanted to express my deepest gratitude for so meticulously labelling and uploading each OST. Great work. Thank you!
Damn I adore this mix of positive & something light vs. the same industrialized darkness as in other songs . It fits the 2 Pyramid Heads battle ideally - the most horrible fight for a cause most noble
(Spoiler here!) This may be one of my favorite boss fights in any video game. Not how it plays though, (heck no) but the story going on here. You're pretty much fighting your hardest with all you've got to stay alive against the two pyramid heads to which the longer you, the more likely it seems you've accept what you've done and are facing your said demons head on. If you manage to actually try your hardest and fight them off, they finally realize they are no longer needed as James finally has no desire for punishment any longer, and therefore rid of themselves.
That makes sense. Originally I thought it didn't make sense to fight pyramid head if he had come to terms with his demons, however the fact that he has to prove it by fighting them makes so much sense thank you for that comment brings whole new light and power to the fight.
I played Silent Hill 2 for the first time a couple weeks ago and ever since I’ve been in love with it. The music, the atmosphere, the story, it’s all so.. Perfect. I’ve never played a game that managed to capture such complexities and emotions in such a unique way.
I don't know if it was the nine save points outside the hall where you have this battle, the theme playing in the background or the fact that you were up against two Pyramid Heads, but never has the message "You're fucked" been so well delivered in a boss fight.
I'd say from all of Yamaoka's songs this is the one that has the most hopeful tone of them all. You can hear someone who's set on fighting against everything that's thrown at them to persevere in the end.
0:31 I imagine a man in a pool of deep dark water which is illuminated by a lone diagonal shaft of light. The man struggles to swim with all his might, never losing hope as he pushes up to a surface he cannot see yet knows is there.
@@TaintedTownMusic A man burdened by dishonesty and irresponsibility will lose himself in that chilly aquatic abyss. However, a man who embraces the truth and commits himself to rectifying his mistakes as best he can will eventually break free.
That was the most badass thing James has ever said in his life and that's where everything became epic because everyone else is dead Eddie Angela well except for Laura but James is the only one who survived the madness of silent hill and the time has come for him to fight his own guilt to the very end
Do you guys remember in the hotel where you had to stick your hand in that hole in the wall with the green slime? The room was making a weird noise. I hear that noise in the background of this song??? 0:44
The first time I did this battle; don't ask me why, but I pulled out Pyramid Head's blade and went to town on them. Amazingly I won; but only because I had saved enough healing products. For me it was the only way to do it... No more running; we settle this now!
Its kinda sad music.I remained by Pyramid head in the entire game but in final battle with the Two I kinda felt sad for two while they were commiting suicide
They had accomplished the task they were created for, forcing James throughout the game to come to terms with his guilt and to stop running, it was never about killing James as messed up as it sounds it’s like tough love
@@psychovenom9282 Yeah, like maybe he did not commit suicide? I am kind of partial to the rebirth ending. Where he tries to bring Mary back from the dead by invoking the powers of the ancient gods of the town. Maybe he brings her back and out of spite she kills him? Or he just goes insane and lives as a hermit. Forever imprisoned in the misty realm.

I really hate the two pyramid heads, It takes a way the singularity of the pyramid head, like it removes some of the horror, what scares you more a demonic executioner that is constantly after you. Or a fucking army of them, making him feel like a joke.
I think an army would be dumb but the concept of two is creative because there are two Bogdan that turn Alex into a bogeyman. There was only one butcher and text in silent hill origins talks about pyramid head as well
@@gavindillon1486 Two of them because James committed two crimes (Mary and Eddie). It really doesn't take anything away from PH and it makes sense in terms of the plot.

This song has just a tinge of- dare I say it- hope. Something that's intensely scarce in the world of Silent Hill.
There's always hope when you are facing your own demons
I wonder
The hope sounds like it comes from atonement
