I repainted an engine bay and turned out looking good but I'm guessing I didn't put enough hardener because when I blacked out the grill the tape marked the paint and I wanted to repair those sections but I noticed on some test pieces that it wrinkles if I try to paint over, but it seems hard and sands out ok, do you think maybe it will cure enough after some time to repair or is not enough hardener the same deal as no hardener?
Can a mix of distilled water and dawn dish detergent be used to clean off a sanded, pre-painted panel before primer instead of what you used in the video?
Hi Toni, I'm a woodworker, and occasionally spray poly, waterbased, mostly, and very seldom, I'll pull some dents and fix them, or I'll repair a fender that's been dinged. What spray gun would you recommend? I'd like to keep it simple.

Hey Tony can I spray epoxy or 2k over high build primer and do I need to clean my gun between epoxy and 2k..thanks loads!! You're basically walking me threw painting my 66 bug👍👍
nosaj selrauq you do need to clean your gun, some epoxys react with 2k products and speed the drying process. I learnt the hardway and mid job found the primer in my gun had turned to jelly after having epoxy in it. Hope that helps
Yeah you will be fine aslong as its all clear inside but once your finished clean the whole gun properly by stripping it down mate. 2k primers are hard to clean if it sets in your gun but epoxy would be a nightmare.
Hey which clear you perfer house of color or kustom shop im doing. My 75 delta 88. But im not sure on clear i want some that last long an look like glass
Technically the high volume low pressure is used for basecoat painting. The low volume low pressure is great for clearcoat or single stage enamel. But I have used both guns to paint all systems and they spray really nice.
A professional LVLP paint guns run at 14 CFM, I have an entry level LVLP spray gun that consumes 6 CFM, can I use spray settings between 26-29 psi at trigger for clear coats & base coat? I use 29 gallon compressor 2HP delivers 6 to 7.2 CFM
Danielle , its like a pre wash and final clean before any type of paint is applied. Its purpose is to remove dirt, glue residues, grease and silicones from the panel that would cause adhesion issues for the paint thats been applied too it. Its just one of the crucial steps required to getting the best possible results
Topic Sonic Endless you are using a gun like the Atom Mini X16 and are just painting like say a bumper or a fender you could barely squeak by with a 4.5 gallon dewalt compressor. Now if you are trying to paint a bumper with a full sized gun that uses 8+cfm you're going to have a problem with you're little 4.5 gal compressor keeping up so you would definitely not be able to paint a full car or even more than 1 panel and 1 coat at a time basically til you're compressor could fill back up and you could do a second coat on that same panel. It would be a pain in the ass trying to paint anything bigger so if you are start saving to invest in atleast a Harbor Freight 29Gal at minimum I used to have one and it was nice for the money or if you can swing $570.00-$600.00 depending if on sale get the Northern Tool North Star 60 gallon 3hp compressor. That's what I have now and it's a very nice unit for the price. Much better quality and warranty then you're $500.00 Kobalt one at Lowe's or Husky at HD.
Always check the cfm ratings. Your air tools will be rated at a maximum cfm usage. Say your gun is 10 cfm then you will need a compressor above this for it to supply enough volume of air. If you dont then the compressor wont keep up with the amount of air used and this will affect your paint finishes due to the drop in required air. Some professional guns have a high cfm usage so always check, some guns i use have a rating of 15cfm with others running around the 10 mark. Its not just about the size of the tank. All the best
Shop Atom Spray guns here: zoolaa.com they are bad ass.
