Dude....awesome intro, I'm a vet and a guy like you is a blessing to us all.. so I'm currently in the process of sanding down my car I have a 05 Chrysler 300 lowered on coilovers 18" American Racing Torque Thrusters looks badass.. the original paint job was blue when I bought the car it was black. it had a salvage title on it so I'm guessing they just did a I quit spray job to sell it..no body damage looks like they bolted up an srt front end...No problem I got half the car sanded right now and will have the rest sanded tomorrow then I'm going to shoot it on Saturday I bought a earlex 3 stage siphon fed tomorrow I'm getting single stage and it's go time.. I'm actually thinking about getting a second career as a painter and I just want to say that you're definitely an inspiration for that I'm 53 years old man I've been a construction worker pipefitter ironworker Carpenter and now I want to work for myself you are making that dream a reality bro thank you so much
What's the best single stage option that you can think of that will be affordable and give me the longest lasting best shine for that type of car I want to do a new Black Metallic would be badass but I want to hear your suggestion please or anybody's

    Tony Pete here again.
Dude you’re really a solid Dude. I have always dabbled in painting but past year and half now have decided to Get it dialed in as I’m doing my 65 Econoline for my detail business. I have been a mechanic at Ford in the past then Service manager and I like to hear about you catching the Dude at Paint store and helping him out. Thats how I at The end of dealing with dealership service, I was never the type to rope in customers who don’t know any better and even had my personal cell in my cards to help anytime.
Anyways man, I appreciate you and people like us who just shoot straight and treat people like we should all treat one another. I use to hold back in front of Part reps and what not but finally had enough of the BS and would call them out. Of course we all have preferences to what we use but there is so much stuff being sold when one is exactly the same.
Anyways, Cheers man and God Bless

  • @HowToPaintYourCar

It doesn't need clear coat, but you can lay it if you want extra protection. Yes you can lay primer if you did body work or had metal areas showing... WHat do you mean what do I recommend?

I am frustrated with the clear coat. It always comes up sticky.
Be it 2 part clear to 1 part hardener as according to the instruction.
or 3 to 1, 4 to 1. Was there anything I missed out or done wrongly? Can the left over clear mixed with hardener be kept for next using?

To answer your other question plainly in general no that's not even in the range of Ideal painting temperatures can it be achieved with chemical reactions and can it be done yes, is it ideal absolutely not. But if that's what you have to work with than then you can work with it your best bet and a secret that I don't think the original poster of this video mention and I haven't mentioned it either that's a great secret to know about is whenever you buy paint at a automotive place always ask for the data sheets which a lot of times you won't get unless you ask for them and they're free and they're a great resource for things like ideal temperatures or how to adjust for certain temperatures also things like pot life which is basically just once you mix a catalyst with a paint how long it will last before it's just not usable which is usually once mixed not very long for automotive paints. I like to always before I leave just say thank you do you have any data sheets you think that might be helpful as well as any sticks and strainers available please.

Hey boss i've got a situation. Not trying to blast a brand but the situation is what it is. I was going to color match a part for a car. The Situation is: I decided to roll with Shop-line JB1 base in Sonic Blue and end result was a great looking piece. Problem is it wasn't even close(not even the same area code) to the factory color. In your experience should i have stepped up to JBP or would it matter being1 was so far off. If there is that much difference between the 2 how do we know to switch

Hey Tony, am thinking about painting my car. It's a light bluish/grey and thinking about painting it gunmetal grey. I have a couple scratches and dings am thinking about sanding them and maybe filling. idk what type grit though. Also for the rest of the car where the paint is ok do i sand it and prime it or paint over it? and what grit if so? I heard you mention you can apply clear coat after primer, and then after your base.. is that correct?

Nice video bro! Only had one question though, I own a 06 STS-V & GM decide you only get 3 color choices for it so mine is silver I want it white so do you think painting over the silver with the white or with a primer first then white work or would it be best If i eliminate the factory paint all together down to the metal!? Thanks in adavance!

that all depends on the climate, air pressure and prep work... we all have been down that road before.. I painted a truck once that was as flat as glass... wetsanding would have been insane to do on that job, but I have had jobs with some bad orange peel.. that wetsanding fixed.. I dont have a professional paint booth though so that is where my variable comes from.. unless you have a really good booth, climate control and exhaust.. it is hard to get a factory flat spray job sometimes

Ok tony, im listening and my heads spinning. I have an old jeep ,it dosent need to be perfect because its just towed behind our rv. I'm in the process of painting the old metal top I have just put 2 coats of primer using the rustoleum rust primer , the top had some very light surface rust and I sanded over it but did not remove it. Now am I ok to paint it, I just bought a paint gun at lowes . I'm not sure what to do next.??

You could probably put a single stage paint on that no problem. But make sure you send it flat and you have no orange peel. You should download my free auto body guide at learnautobodyandpaint.com

I want to make my black truck look glossy. It doesnt have to be perfect but can I just sand it to the point where the crear coat is off and then just apply crear coat again? It might not look black black but I just want it to be shiny.... Or do I have to add primer first and then clear coat it.
