    You did it the right way making sure the foundation structure was level and square as possible. A good total plan including working around the farm and cash flow. The best part is all the labor cost saved and the fact that you both can sit back and be proud of your cabin.

    Great video! Great advice on the grain of the wood! I lost a big load of plywood on my hill! Lost 20 sheets and they slid about 20 foot.

    As a young teenager I worked for a framing crew in East Central Indiana where I still live . My boss got a call from his boss at Indianapolis that the lumber arrived on site . The site was close to the Indiana - Ohio state line and we could get started Monday mourning . Early Monday morning we drove the thirty - five miles East eager to make some money . You know by now where I'm going with this , when we got there was not a stick of lumber anywhere to be found . Someone got enough lumber to frame their new home compliments of Davis Homes of Indianapolis . The year was 1964 .

    just subscribed, loving your videos! I'm going to look at property in upstate New York. Backs up to state land and New York City watershed property.
    Not well suited for traditional home building. If it works out I'm going to build this little cabin just like you did! This video is as good as having an uncle for a carpenter to guide you. Thanks a bunch! God bless

    That was fun. I would love to build a log cabin, I watch Noah Bradley on RUclips it’s fantastic. Amanda could build a cabin like yours fairly inexpensively, I’ll bet she could find scrap blocks and 2x6 boards on Market Place and Cregs List. Have you ever worked up what, just the materials would cost to build your cabin?

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  5 лет назад

      I watch Noah also. We have an idea what it will cost. But to be honest we do make changes as we go. So the price changes.

    You and Wanda, Danny, are such a delight to watch and learn from, I save all your videos and will follow your genius when we build our home here in the Philippines next year. I am an ex-pat Aussie drywaller living in PI and needed a good instructor, glad I found one in you, old mate. I haven't watched how you made your termite shields yet, but I see they turned out superbly and just wonder did you use them as a template for your sill plate bolts? Kudos to you both, Legends in my humble opinion, and love how the cabin turned out. Wayne :))

    Excellent work! Why not use skid beams? Is there any advantages to using only sill plates over skid beams?

  • @jeremysmothers5143

    I love all your tips..only thing I didn’t like or am confused by is your span between the piers..bc the wood is laid flat won’t it sag over time? Especially bc it seems your span is pretty long unsupported?
