    Danny, when I built my house, I drove every nail by hand as you are! No air nailing here. Your doing a bang up job! Good luck.

    • @crosisofborg5524
      @crosisofborg5524 6 месяцев назад

      I’m not sure why that’s a bragging point. I use an air nailer and can nail up a laid out wall in 5 minutes. Time is money. Why not just use technology?

    The last two houses that I've built have been 90% screwed which is slower but it makes removing the fasteners much easier and makes the frame stiffer.

    • @chrisis9030
      @chrisis9030 5 лет назад

      But nails are much stronger than screws, I gather from experienced builders.

    • @FrontYardGardener
      @FrontYardGardener 5 лет назад

      Chris Is While nails are less brittle and have great shear strength, screws have greater tensile strength and hold wood tighter. Wall frames are basically I-beams, the need for shear strength is negated when sheathing locks the framing corners. I’ve built with both, I’ll use nails when production is needed but screws when I build for myself.

    • @crosisofborg5524
      @crosisofborg5524 6 месяцев назад

      Nails aren’t code.

    • @FrontYardGardener
      @FrontYardGardener 6 месяцев назад

      @@crosisofborg5524 ha, there’s little or no “code” in rural Mississippi. I’ve built several houses 30 miles from them and have never been inspected, in fact when I was plumbing professionally we avoided doing work in cities with plumbing codes.

    You don't see too many people hand nailing anymore. Its how my dad built houses when I worked with him as a teenager. Nail guns are so much faster.

    • @DeepSouthHomestead
      @DeepSouthHomestead  5 лет назад +2

      No termite sheeting under walls. Not sure why anyone would require 14 inch centers it won't match any material used today.

    • @Jay-tk7ib
      @Jay-tk7ib 5 лет назад +1

      I'm pretty sure that no state requires 14 inches on center in framing. Well, maybe liberal states. lol
