I’ve built a many a gable end on a saw table temporary deck then a fork lift to the spot they went. Walls get heavy. You guys are old school that why I enjoy your videos. Retired carpenter superintendent. In. Sc.
So sorry to hear you had a problem using the wall hoist from the Lumnahs! Funny, 8/16ths! You mean a half! That plane sounds too close to the ground! At 45 degrees the two legs are the same so at 16 inches on center the rise would be 16 inches every way along the wall. I'm glad you were nice enough to demonstrate that to us by calling out the measurements. It's true that the math doesn't lie! Such a nicely constructed gable end wall with a window! "F" channel and not "J" channel? So Dan counts as two people because 3 of them were putting in the window? Nice clean cut of the J channel at the top. You even put on the soffit! Forgot the plate so you didn't use the wall jack! Too bad the ladder was in the way. I'm so glad you didn't lose the wall! Thanks for this video Ken and crew! I remember when the gable end went too far at the Limnah's build. Some pretty tense moments! I hope you all had wonderful July 4ths!
Great crew, the 4 of you... Dan I count as 2!! Always good to have a guy like him around !! Not taking anything away from Chad and yourself. I hope you get another video w the host in action. Havvagoodun!
I thought that you actually TRIED to use the wall jack and failed. Like someone almost got hurt....glad that wasn't the case. The wall looked great after you got it up. Greetings from Texas...John B.
I think it where I saw you guys the first time was when you did the Lumner's built. Since then I have been watching both the videos on a regular basis and just love it.❤
10% remodeling is true. I’ve moved plenty of doors and windows after they were framed to the drawings. In practice they were off a bit. Good vid. Thanks.
please consider a sound EQ for the video to limit the really high pitch sounds (saws and nail guns) to make them more suited for easy listening. It might enhance the viewing experience just to tweak them a little. Thanks for considering. Love the videos been watching for years
Good morning Ken, sweet over eye ,should be here 110 degrees. Looks like you pee your pants working in FL. Lol never been so hot humidit here the aluminum carports are so horrible we need too we're gloves,,hats and tents ⛺️ and commercial fans, but nice looking gable my friend 🌴😎
The wall went up like it should. What do we expect when Ken is the one planning it out? This account is a very good video. Thank you for sharing your day.
Something is weird... I don't recall seeing this garage go up, but now there's a roof going on... hmmm... I have some RUclips digging to do. Good work guys! Maybe you're just that speedy.
I use perforated plumbers banding as a safer hinge method. Cut 12 inch strips, bend a 90 degree in the middle, slide the tape up the bottom face of the base plate under it and on to the inside face of the wall. Nail the strip to the deck with duplex nails. There is no chance of the angle nail method popping out. Seen that happen to many times. Once the wall is up and braced, the straps wrapped around the plate and are left inside the wall. I have never lost a wall and have raised 45 foot by 12 high by my lonesome using my Procto Wall Lifters.
I first saw you on the Lumnah job and watched your early videos. Have not seen any until this and WOW, you sure have come a long way. Very nice work and excellent audio (some other channels should take note). SIde note, I hate the sound of the dewalt nailers. Get yourself one of the red ones!
Lumnah (sp?) build is where I started watching their videos. I watch ALL of Lumnah and Ken’s Carpentry videos ever since! I just wished you built garages in California!
Back in them days {Old School} your hammer was your best friend, I still remember the first roof I learned to shingle, I had sore fingers for a week!! lol One tap to set, second harder tap sent it home, I also remember wheeling cement in 90 degree Missouri summers. I'm retired now, that is why I love watching your videos, all them years of hard work play hell with your body.
I was hoping to see you use the wall jack. I had a pair of Proctor wall jacks that made it possible for me to frame a 4000 Sq ft house with 2"x6"x10' walls by myself. With some improvisation I was also able to set a 8"x12"x20' beam in place 18' off the floor.
😂 right. It was amazing lifting gable walls with 1 ft overhanging soffits fully trimmed with vents. 100% complete. It was scary those little wires holding all that weight
I am building a gambrel garage, and recently did the gable end wall for the second floor. It is 24 feet wide and about 12 feet tall at the peak. It's just me doing it, so i tried different ways, built a crane but could not lift it into position. So, I initially used regular sawhorses with a hydraulic car jack and lifted them up. I also built a couple 6 foot tall and 4 feet long sawhorses on steroids as I lifted it taller. As I jacked it up I propped the wall and pushed the sawhorses forward bit by bit. Until I reached the center of gravity to push it up against some strong backs I have braced to the ground to stabilize it while I put the rest of the trusses up. I am also using the 6 foot sawhorses both inline with an 8 foot by 46 inch right triangle I built of heavy lumber. I put a come-a-long on the top the triangle to winch the trusses up to where I can lift the truss leg into position.
Really nice Ken (I always get nervous just as the gable end goes up I have a phobia that it’s going to tip over! ( I know you wouldn’t let that happen though) stay safe Ken.
Ken your frequent cheerful bantering w your guys help make the job go more smoothly and seemingly effortless.
Ken. I think the lads were happy you saw the saw. Thanks for the video.
Don’t need no stinking lift. Nice one guys. 🎅🏻
Raising a wall without swearing? That’s incredible!
"10% of all construction is remodeling". It's much higher than that for me. Lol.
Slick way to do that job.
A wall that size can always be raised (without the aid of a hoist) when you have the team of Chad & Dan on the job.
Thanks for leaving the ladder section in... (real life is always great to learn from) another great video.
haha think iam missing something is this video out of sequence didn't see concrete pad or wall building right into second floor build have a great day
I single-handed have raised walls and used a rope to prevent them from being able to go past vertical. Adds about a minute to set up the rope...
Awesome reference to the Mr. Rogers show! “Correct as usual King Friday” nice 😊

that random dude on a go-kart at 19:30 lol
Funny at 45 degree angle rise=run, so yes it is the same length! Grade school math, y’all are so humble and fun.
Hi ken, watching your team working is pleasurable, I like watching tradesmen getting the job don. Thanks for sharing

Another FANTASTIC VIDEO and love the humor y'all!!! God Bless you ALL and thank you for your video. Looking Good!!!
Your crew made it look easy, thanks for sharing.
Ken,good thing you’re steps were quick because,Dan’s legs were shaking badly ❤😊
Good old Armstrong comes to the rescue. And having a team of muscle giants helps.
Thank you. 💪💪🖐😀 (N.G, Indiana)

Never thought I'd see the day that Hoss would be wearing shorts. Would Ben Cartwright approve?😅

@18:20 That mountain of a man could probably have lifted that wall himself!

I went looking...couldn't find it

Great job guy's!
Ken, I like to zip tie all the parts together so I can't forget some small piece. Or tie it with a rope or attach it with tape in a bag or something.
Het was weer geweldig om te zien hoe jullie het samen doen 👌👍
Groetjes uit Holland 👋🏼🇳🇱

Why have you stopped, giving information on the projects? Like what type of garage you're working on. Id like to know.
Really nice Ken (I always get nervous just as the gable end goes up I have a phobia that it’s going to tip over! ( I know you wouldn’t let that happen though) stay safe Ken.
poetry in motion
Great work as always,,
What surgery are you going to have in your wrist??
Sky King flew over 😂
I'm thinking you will be able to use that hoist again at Lumnah Acres, if they are adding a second floor on their workshop!! lol
When I was in construction I hated going back fixing mistakes. (10%) I've been in IT now for 15 years, and it's even worse!!
Onehanded until forgetting everything? Lol
As easy as that looked raising the wall by hand, I think trying to use the wall lift would have been more trouble than it was worth.
perhaps if they had the lift handy that wall may have been assembled further?
@@rupe53 ??? It was pretty well complete. Had osb, window, soffit etc.
Nice job
Anyone know where the term “toe nail” came from. As it applies to construction. Thanks guys
What did you do to your shoulder for strength to be gone ... im struggling with frozen shoulder
I must have missed the pocket for the ridge beam. 🤦♂️
there's no ridge beam in this style. He might explain it later, but usually it will be a truss when done with knee walls.
I worked with a father and son construction company many years ago, they could never agree on anything so more like 25% had to be moved!! lol
What manufacture tool belts are you using?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

glad was not a machine failure. just human logic
Did I miss the video where you guys built the bottom floor of this garage?

Lumnahs place still isn't finished.
You took way to long to get braces on wall.
It is over by the saw...
Never heard someone say 74 ⁸/¹⁶ usually they say 74 and a half.
Haha we were joking around
