Not really? All Toad said was that she was in another castle. When Mario asked which one, all Toad needed to say was 'idk, not here', unfortunately Toads as a general rule are servile, not smart. So while Toad hemmed and hawed trying to come up with an answer he didn't have, Mario jumped from platformer hero to believing he was in a jrpg or something else with a deeper plot.
Honestly the most shocking thing about this video is that Mario is actually treating Luigi nicely.

@Anthony Long it's possible that, even if Toad told Mario precisely which castle the Princess is in, he could still not go to that world (world 8) directly unless he clears all the others first (and save all other Toads in the process). This is especially clear in SMB3 when Mario specifically needs a special item (the Warp Whistle) in order to warp himself to world 8 and fight against Bowser without defeating all the Koopalings and rescue the transformed Kings first

After the first few hours, Toad realized that he couldn't convince Mario that he was innocent, my guess is he cracked and accepted the role as the bad guy when Mario wouldn't accept that he was, in fact, one of the good guys

Yeah, in many other Dorkly episodes the animation feels unnatural, due to the way they move sprites. This one truly feels like an 8-bit animation.

To be honest, with Peach saying there was only one Toad and her who were kidnaped and separated, it does seem kinda fishy that this single Toad is always in every castle and ‘just happens’ to mention that Peach is in ‘another castle’. After going through a few worlds and reaching the same conclusion, I don’t blame Mario for becoming suspicious of Toad’s potential involvement here. That is some shady shit.
Plot twist: Luigi knew where peach was all along, he just wanted toad out the way...

All Toad had to do was explain that he was separated and didn't know which castle Peach was in. The bloody fungus was either suicidal or had an extreme, loony grudge against Mario that involved tricking the plumber into doing something like this.
He just wanted all his toadie friends to be rescued before the princess was and didn't wish to admit it.

@Cipher Pol 3 good point cause in those days you drop bowser in fire or lava, no coming back from that, I get robotnik returning for 8 or 9 levels cause sonic only beats up his machines not his body
And this is why torture is a really bad way to get information, the prisoner will either tell you what you want to hear, or realise that they're doomed regardless and will either tell you nothing or give false information out of spite.
There is also the problem that torture can never stop. As the torturer never knows if the tortured person really said everything they knew.

The whole point is that Mario has already made up his mind about Toad before he started torturing him. I am guessing many times during the time skipped over by "some time later" he told Mario just that, but he didn't believe him. Finally Toad had enough and so told Mario the worst version of what he wanted to hear.
Toads dont always just hand out stars. Sometimes you gotta do busywork and hunt like post-ending Odyssey "Find The Princess".

Part of reason torture doesn't work is that you can have situation where the victim tells the truth the torturer doesn't believe them. So they have to lie to the torturer to relieve the pain. What you're going to get is wrong information based on shady practices.
The animation detail about the pixels being always right in place like it was really 8-bit, it gives me an unhealthy satisfaction.
He doesn't know which castle she's in, he just knows it isn't THIS one.
Do the castles even have back doors? Because everyone only ever goes in and out the front.
Yeah, the back door to a castle is called a Sallyport. It's usually hidden away in both a not easily accessible and a defendable area along the back walls. Most of them provide access to a narrow hallway just big enough for a few people to enter single file.

Mario wouldn’t visit all 8 castles if he knew which Peach was in, and players in early video games needed a mini end game to validate there journey through a world. Now a days we shoot almost endless waves of NPC’s with a magic reset and save button to negate progress loss
But the NES wouldn’t save more then 3 files on the same game. So lol. So no quick saves

I really love how fluid the animation while using 8 bit sprites. Pretty awesome.
