These mario lore videos are all pretty cool. I stumbled upon your channel while searching up something for mario kart. It suprises me that you don't have more viewers for how well put together these videos are. On another note, do you think you will ever make a similar style video on king boo? Just curious
@@brad5204 Not ruling anyone out at this point unless I have zero interest in a particular franchise. :) So when I get back to Mario, I'm open to covering King Boo.
I swear if they don’t have Rosalina tell this story for when she appears in the Mario Movie sequel, because it wouldn’t work if she’s in the first film, then I’ll be very upset. On a more serious note, I think it would be amazing if we not only got to see Rosalina, but witness the pure emotion from when she tells her story. Just imagine how amazing it would be with authentic voice actor and expressive animations.
@@StevenJones851 Yeah, exactly. Maybe they’ll combine the two Mario Galaxy games, we can still have that storyline with Rosalina and also have giant bowser as the main antagonist.
@@insectostrich4407 that would be fantastic because i love Rosalina so much and would want her too have a lot of good screen time also combining the 2 games sounds pretty good too do idk if Bowser being the Villan for the Squeal is good I'd have it be Someone else
I'm not sure it was so much WRITTEN at the last minute. It was probably in the works for inclusion but struggling to get approval, I get the impression Koizumi probably wrote that weird backstory for Zelda 2, unless that was before his time. I would argue Miamoto's point is more that this kind of stuff doesn't belong in CERTAIN games because it's for OTHER games. It's pretty interesting how there was this tendency for NoA to just add stuff to the manual, but its even mre interesting when some of that stuff is originating actually in Japan. How much of it is using the manual as an extension of the limited game tech, and how much just an extra where they make stuff up, kinda like Cat Mario Show or Twitter Takeovers.
I like to think that aside from travelling past Earth every 100 years, Rosalina also reads that storybook periodically to remind herself of her roots, where she came from, her original family, etc. She probably doesn’t want to forget her past life as she experiences many more ‘resets’. The character design description about her hair and how her ‘long bangs represent her outward strength, inner sorrow and loneliness’ could indicate that she is still clinging to her past somehow.
That's attention to great detail. My theory is that she's basically a Goddess or Demi-Goddess and with that ascension she obtained immortality. We usually hear old Greek or ancient pagan stories of mortals ascending into godhood and becoming a huge jerks because they forgot how it is to be mortal. Rosalina understands how important it is to have a heart and the meaning of family. That book is her story reminding her of human emotions. Thus, she makes sure that Lumas, the Mario gang, and the universe understands the nurturing of a mother and love.
Rosalina is my personal favourite of the Mario girls because she's the most powerful and the only one who's never been a damsel in distress. Yes I know she got possessed in Sparks Of Hope but that was only because she was protecting her baby Lumas and once you free her she immediately helps the heroes. Also why were we robbed of Guitarist Rosalina?
She is not the most powerful, and she has been in distress in Mario Galaxy 2, where she was trapped in her own observatory by Bowser, and waited for Mario’s help like Peach does. Plus, she looks identical to Peach, AKA unoriginal.
I think it’s so cool how similar Rosalina’s story is to The Little Prince. Maybe that’s why she has rose in her name, based on the sole flower that bloomed on a tiny planet, drifting through the cosmos.
I like to assume she's like Peach's great great many greats aunt or something. Would make sense if her brother continued the royal family until Peach was born.
@@mollyjenkins1039 that can be true. Honestly, anything is still possible, now that Peach's canon origins from the movie was entering the Mushroom Kingdom via the multiverse pipes.
@irregulargamer1352 If I recall correctly, that was pretty explicitly a part of MatPat's theory. Obviously she isn't the daughter of this incarnation of Peach. She's the daughter of a Peach from a previous universe. I don't necessarily agree with the theory. In my headcanon, she is Peach's great-great-...-great-aunt, but it annoys me how people seem to ignore a big part of his theory and then say it doesn't make sense because they ignore the part that would make it make sense.
I love Rosalina's story. To be honest it's really sad knowing that the Lumas in the end saceifice themselves but it's really a happy ending because they created a new universe for Mario and his friends to live in.
it makes me so emotional. it's literally more effective than any emotional movie or series, i don't even think Your Lie in April can make me cry that much
I absolutely love Rosalina so much. She is literally my favorite character. I hope one day Nintendo makes a game with Rosalina as the main character. ♥️
I really had a huge crush on Princess Rosalina 💙. Many years have passed, she's till. Prefer her over Peach. She seems like Saint Mary, Mother of Jesus
the thing about rosalina is with how many universe resets she implies she has seen odds are her blood line dont even exist by the current unvierse so any relations she has are long forgoten to time
@@lizzie9977 probably because Peach already was the poster damsel in distress, so that forced them to prioritize more personality development with Daisy
Regarding the theories about Rosalina, I heard of this other somewhat popular theory in which Adult Rosa is performing a "Young-to-Adult" infinite loop. Basically, she leaves behind a white luma on a rusted shroom ship so a new child version of her can find him and then become the next mother of the lumas, and thus this cycle repeats forever. The following evidence from the game could suggest the existence of this time loop: 1. In Chapter 1, Luma tells Young Rosa his mother is supposed to be flying through a comet. The observatory, when flying, looks like a comet. 2. In Chapter 5, The star bits, tools, bricks, and the pieces of furniture buried under the icy comet seem very suspicious, as if whoever left them behind knew Young Rosa and the white luma would come. 3. In Chapter 6, the white luma stares at Young Rosa for a brief moment before calling her, "My mama", as if he realized he has seen her before. 4. In the secret cutscene, as Adult Rosa leaves Gateway Galaxy, a rusty shroom ship appears with a white luma inside it, which is similar to Chapter 1. Not only does this theory hold fairly, solid evidence, but it also suggests to me that if Adult Rosa left a white luma in Gateway, then a new child version of herself is supposed to be born during that current era to cross paths with this luma, which.... could mean that..... Peach and Mario marry and have that kid. Rosa's backstory clearly illustrates to the reader that she has Toadstool Royal Family origins, and she used to own a red or pink cap while her brother owned a green cap. Most Mario theorists usually ignore these details in Chapter 7, though they are the only highlighted clothes in the chapter and are obviously referencing the Super Mario Brothers, though to what extent? Is Mr. Koizumi vaguely revealing to the reader that the children belong to a past incarnation of Peach and Mario/Luigi? Now of course, one could make a case that Rosa's mother is not Peach because the mother wears a blue dress rather than a pink one, and then of course, the mother is dead, however, if Adult Rosa stated that life does not repeat itself 100% after the reset and Peach and Bowser live even though they seemed to have died in the super blackhole, therefore a character could probably reborn and like red in one cycle and then reborn and like blue in another cycle. In fact, let's not forget those bizarre storylines from Super Mario Land 1 and 2 where Mario rescues Daisy and fights Tatanga instead of rescuing Peach and fighting Bowser as well as adventuring to regain his castle and land back from Wario rather than living in a normal house in Toad Town. SML 1 additionally hints at a romantic relationship between Mario and Daisy even though Mario was already falling in love with Peach according to the all-stars version of the first Super Mario Brothers game. I could also mention how Super Mario 64 DS has its plot a little different from the original game, which is quite similar to the plot difference situation between Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. By the way, have you ever questioned why the Mushroom Kingdom always has its landscape completely changed in every game? Now to be fair, the reset in Super Mario Galaxy does not change the landscape of the Mushroom Kingdom (probably because the developers did not have time to do that), yet if Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a retelling, then I must say that the sequel's Mushroom Kingdom has the design and structure of the town is a little different and the trees are triangle-like compared to the round ones in the predecessor. Yes I know, numerous readers by this point in the paragraph will view me as an idiot for believing in Matpat's silly theory, but I thought it would be worthwhile to point out these possibilities that relate to the "Young-to-Adult" infinite loop theory. Oof... that sure was a long paragraph. In the end, I must recognize that both the "Young-to-Adult" infinite loop and the "Parents Peach and Mario/Luigi" theory are not 100% concrete. They contain flaws such as the unknown reason why Adult Rosa cannot take care of her white luma and needs to perform an infinite loop, the white luma happily waving goodbye to the player rather than looking concerned because there is no mama to be found during the secret cutscene, and the possibility that the red and green caps are only illustrating the reader that Young Rosa and her brother had a similar relationship to Mario and Luigi's. But hey, this is just a theory, A GAME THEORY! Thank you so much for reading this ridiculously long comment. Feel free to comment on any other problems with my two explained theories, or comment about a personal theory that I never thought of or heard of. It would be fun to read other Mario theorists' thoughts.
Honestly I've never played the game, BUT the infinite young-to-adult loop you mentioned does make a lot of sense to me and jeez, the amount of information is quite impressive and detailed and those tiny details that would be overlooked.
@@loneprinceryan7206 Well I feel honored to hear such positive feedback from you. Thank you! And by the way, I hugely recommend you to play both Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. Galaxy 1 is one of the most unique Mario games in terms of atmosphere, vibes, story-telling, and gameplay while Galaxy 2 is one of the most refined, replayable, and fun Mario games ever, and then of course, both games carry near-perfect soundtracks that will always be stuck in the player's head. In conclusion, please play them! You won't regret it.
It amazes me how far Rosalina has come from being another Mario Princess (Although if you ask me, she's more of a Queen than anything) The backstory in her storybook is so touching and emotional, and it makes me wish we had more moments like it in Mainline Mario adventures.
Honestly I ended up crying when I was younger when Rosalina cried over her mother, I didn't know why I was crying at the time. I feared reading the story again after that. Now that I'm a adult, I understand it better now and it is a just a game after all.
I was just a few years old when the Super Mario Galaxy game came out, but I still remember clearly the story about Rosalinda when I played it with my mom. She has always been me and my moms favourite. And a cried so much at the end with the lumas. I really hope she is going to be in the new Mario movie, she deserves it.😌
it's so weird bc Rosalina has always been my favorite (especially as a girl since theres fewer character options for things like mario kart or mario party) and people always say to me that she's cliche, overhyped, like a "not like other girls" option, basic, or idk general hate or invalidating of prefering her over peach or Daisy but I respect that the writer of her storybook promoted stories in game because that's something I appreciate in games and it makes it deeper and more meaninful. also I like her story about preservation and transformation, idk why people hate on her, knowing her origins and game lore made me like her even more.
I agree with you. After making this video, I respect the character even more than before. She was something fresh and little more nuanced than the other characters within the series and seeing the director felt the same way made her story impactful in a different way. Thanks for watching!
Yeah I don’t get that. Also I don’t get how people calls her “Peach 2.0” simply because she’s more expressive now. She was without human friends for so long and even though she had her Luma’s, was probably still somewhat lonely. If anything her happier attitude is character development because she gets to hang out with friends outside of the Comet Observatory now and is living life
I'm few people never refered Rosalina as princess, not even Nintendo use her as title princess to her unlike Peach and Daisy. Rosalina is too old (literally wayyyyyy older than space itself) to be princess. Be just "Rosalina" enough for her. Probably she is "Guardian" for protect all galaxy and whole universe or She closed be Queen.
@@wompwompcryabttit those aren't actually canon... Or credible those have stated baisy and peach where cousins, the koopa kids and koopalins where Bowser's kids etc they all got debunked by Nintendo. They aren't even written by the games dev teams
Rosalina is not an official princess. She only hangs out with Lumias. But, she has princess type attire and is a princess-type character. Following the tropes. She even has the crown. Just not a legal princess of course
You dont have to consider her princess. But be reasonable and atleast understand why people would do. She has the outfit of and portrayal of a disney/Nintendo type princess and follows the tropes
Rosalina swiftly became my favorite character to choose in games like Mario Kart and Smash, and my overall favorite Mario series character period. Knowing there's a RosaRabid in Sparks of Hope has me gunning to get my hands on that game now. She easily topped my list of favorite Mario-series characters ever since I played Galaxy, and I was crushed that she (and to an extent, her observatory) were practically absent in Galaxy 2.
Rosalinas story is an extra kind of sad for me and even as an adult I can hardly bear it (actually especially as an adult)!!! It just doesn't sit right with me that a little child will never get to see their parents again because they are lost in SPACE!!! At least if you're on the same planet there is hope, maybe even in the same solar system, but another solar system especially in another galaxy just ain't right. Not in that stage of evolution.
I remember years ago, one countdown maker I forgot the name of, was one to have very controversial opinions on video games. When it came to his countdown on his most hated video game characters, he put Rosalina at No. 7 for the fact that she "enslaved" the Lumas to do her bidding. I mean, wow. Heck, at least back in 2012, WiiDude83 commented jokingly on Mario using the stars for fuel for the Observatory as being messed up, when comparing it to Robotnik's mind control beam in Sonic Colors. Early 2010s RUclips was a weird place.
Peak Mario character design in my opinion. Good writing, good looks, heartwarming backstory, and an overall great plot too. I feel like debuting in one of the few mainline games that actually focused on story and the overall Mario universe lore really benefitted Rosalina as a character. Same goes for the Toad Brigade, but that's another discussion for another day. Still hoping we see Galaxy 3 some day (if Sparks of Hope doesn't already fulfil that purpose, that is)
I subscribe to the theory that when Rosalina remade the universe, she remade it almost entirely exactly as it can be. however instances of Time-Travel can "wriggle" it to an extent. so when Mario/Bowser travelled back in time in the Yoshi's Island sequels, that's actually the pre-reboot universe. though the Baby Rosalina in Kart is a entirely separate one just because her hair was already platinum-blonde (rather than ginger in the book), maybe a Rosalina that had a life of her own. maybe Rosalina survived the loop of the universe and became the Luma's (original) mother, retconning the events of Galaxy from the remake universe? force of the explosion probably let her create an entire universe's history and simply thrown Captain Toad, Peach, Mario/Luigi and Bowser on earth. I could probably see the original mother possibly dying off, while the Rosalina became immortal and became the new universe's luma's mother. heck, maybe she establishes the star festival even earlier than how the original universe celebrated it? i'd guess that'd certainly explain baby rosalina's hair. out of universe they've probably created baby rosalina to pad the cast and to ride on popularity, while in-universe it could be a nod to a Post-Galaxy world.
mario galaxy 2 was actually supposed to be dlc for mario galaxy but at the time Nintendo was against dlc on top of not knowing how to implement dlc so they just made it a new game
So glad you referenced the amazing super luigi galaxy meme. I've always loved how as the galaxy resets and the screen turns black, that just pops up and kills the vibe.
Having been in Rosalina's shoes quite literally, having lost my mom as a child... The line "I will watch over you from beyond the stars" absolute broke me when I finished this game back in middle school. Felt like my mom was talking directly to me thru a singular endgame line of dialogue from Rosalina herself. Probably sat there and cried for a good 10 minutes, as I couldn't bear to force myself to advance the ending scene. God, her backstory is so damn heartbreaking
From the storybook, it sounds like Rosalina is an ancestor of Peach-- like the sister of one of Peach's great, great, great, great grandfather or something. Definitely in the same royal family line, but from hundreds of years ago.
Am glad they made this backstory at the last second had it not been included Rosalina would've ended being not as interesting as she is now she still would've had an amazing design but probably just would've been any other princess just with a space theme so am really glad that thanks to Mr yoshi san's contributions that wasn't the case
Hey Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is amazing, and I enjoyed the story behind Rosalina's capture. It's a story you would see in a Mario RPG, and it's quite amazing, and I hope they do more with Rosalina in the future. Besides Sparks are just wholesome, maybe they can create Rabbid Planets.
Yeah what with Rosalina's supposed age it makes way more sense for her to be an ancestor of Peach rather than a descendant... Like GreatX10 Grand-Aunt or smth.
I remember the time some very lonely, sad dude hated Rosalina so much, he bought up HUNDREDS of her amiibo when she released so that nobody else could have her. Wild times lol
I remember hearing about that way back when amiibos were getting popular! Maybe I'm misremembering, but wasn't there a truck full of those amiibos that got hijacked too around that time?
To answer the question you asked at the end: yes, there are fans that dislike Rosalina. I'm not one of them; she and Bowser Jr. are in contention for my favorite Mario character, but I have personally interacted with people that have a strong and viseral animosity towards Rosalina, as if she ruined the franchise. They never even gave me a substantial reason why; I mostly got a lot of "I don't need to justify anything to you" or "If you don't get it you're part of the problem". I even remember hearing a story from the Smash 4 days, never confirmed if it was true or not, that says there was a fan that hated Rosalina so much that he wanted to do everything in his power to keep her fans from being happy, so he pre-ordered 50 Rosalina amiibo and just kept them. Never sold them out, probably ended up throwing them out or something, but the point was to make it extra difficult to get a hold of a Rosalina amiibo, and if you remember the amiibo craze, depending on the character in question it was already difficult to get a hold of an amiibo, and Rosalina was definitely in that camp even without this guy's help. I also know that Odyssey Central despises her. Don't know why, I never watched enough of his content to figure it out, but I remember that whenever he was forced to address her, such as when he was doing an Ultimate video where every character had to be brought up, he would often substitue her name for "cringe", and doesn't give her a fair shake in rankings such as the best Taunts just because she's Rosalina. I have a feeling he over exaggerates a little as a gimmick or to facilitate a reaction, it's good for the algorithm and all that, but that has to start somewhere. I understand that no character is exempt from hatred and that especially the more popular characters are the ones subject to more hate than the ones that don't get talked about as much, but at times it feels like there's no middle ground with Rosalina; if your opinion of her is less than "like", then it becomes the most unhealthy sort of hatred, and Rosalina doesn't feel like the sort of character that deserves that.
Rosalina deserves her own game. Nintendo always pins her a secret character, a side character, etc. More attention could be paid if she was in a third person game with Lumas at her control.
Galaxy is one of those beautiful somber games, with gravitas, tragedy and atmosphere. I would better describe it as a beautiful lullaby crossed with a dream
Love all your videos dude, this one especially is an immediate favorite. Such a fun and sincere vid on a wonderful and poignant installment to the Mario series. Played it as a kid when it came out, and I’m 25 now & still replaying it 😂❤ RIP to Luma - literally tears.
I can’t get over Rosalina, she’s basically a god and as you could see by the crown she was some sort of royalty or holder of power before she met the lumas, she can literally fly, create forcefield a, control lumas, I don’t even know what she can do with her wand but like she is hella powerful.
Also, the fact that she just dropped everything to help a random luma. Because of that I think that she is some sort of immortal because well she’s thousands of years old and it seems that she doesn’t require nutrients. Also she is basically the Princess/Queen of the universe
Rosalina, while not being the best Mario character, is definitely the quintessence of Mario design. Correct style, beauty, and a bit of mystery that sparks new possibilities for games (like 3D World and Sparks of Hope). I’d like to mention that in 3D World, it was mentioned Bowser defeated her (again), implying that she was maybe some sort of first line of defense for the Sprixies, meaning she is not only unbounded by time, but also has cross-dimensional travel, which Bowser is only able to achieve through Kamek’s magic (Kamek was the magikoopa at the start of Galaxy btw). Due to her defeat in Sparks of Hope (which acts as an AT of the mainline universe), it means Cursa is so far the only character stronger than Bowser, which I think is just neat. As for the theory, while it was denied to have it stated in the game that she’s related to Peach, that doesn’t take it off the table. Rosalina, Nabbit, E. Gadd, and Toadette are like the Mario characters Nintendo seemingly wants theories about. And secret relationships being hidden in-game aren’t anything unusual (Daisy, Waluigi (even though he’s not mainline yet), and Toadette).
Rosalina is the Italian name for Rosaline. “Rosaline” is the woman Romeo falls for first in Romeo in “Romeo & Juliet” . It’s his love for her that sets Romeo out to a party of the Capulet family where he first sees Juliet. In certain retellings of the story, Rosaline swears herself to be a virgin forever. And she almost has mystic qualities. Strong parallel to Rosalina. Also Rosaline rhymes with Pauline, another love interest in the Mario lore. And Rosalina (Italian) matches with Mario and Luigi which are also Italian names . While also, like you said, pays homage to a flower name like Peach and Daisy. Estela is a Spanish name (even though Estrella means star), Stella would the Italian equivalent, though they chose Rosalinda for the Italian version. It would have made more sense to switch them for Italian and Spanish.
I think Rosalina's actually a really good & interesting character, but she's still being under-utilized. How many franchises can introduce a new character on a whim 20+ years after it began? Next to none, & yet Mario can create someone like Rosalina & the Lumas & make them a part of the main cast of characters everyone knows within about a decade! The character herself is just interesting because she doesn't follow to 'damsel in distress' or 'quirky' nature that Princess Peach & Daisy follow (Yes Daisy is more outgoing, but her one mainline appearance has her as a damsel). Rosalina is just a serious character, who can truly be a hero of her own without saving. She's a good parental figure to the Lumas, & she has technologically advanced faster than the world, by herself floating in space. She's partially supernatural with the whole 'breathing in space' thing, & the fact she can float & change size on command, but she's not your typical Mario character which makes her stand out. Also the immense amount of lore that they gave her makes her stand out more, because she probably is one of the most known characters in the whole franchise, knowing her early life, how she made it into space, how she became the unofficial mother of the Lumas, & what she's been doing up to Super Mario Galaxy's debut. Not many characters beyond Rosalina get that much lore to boost them, so it make's her case even more interesting. Also Yoshiaki Koizumi's determination to put a real plot in a Mario game, going as far as doing secret work behind THE videogame king Shigeru Miyamoto is insanity & awesome. They did have a bit of a dispute which left the two to hold a little bit of a grudge between each other for a while, & caused the plot to be reduced exponentially, but the fact any sort of substance of plot exists at all is a win in my books. Thank you for your determination!
Great story rundown man! I knew very little about this character and it was nice to learn about her, probably one of the saddest Mario character stories too
I played Super Mario Galaxy for the very first time on the Switch. I never got to play it as a kid on the Wii. When I read Roselina’s story for the first time in the library after getting 105 stars and I cried. I beat it twice, both as Mario & Luigi and read the story again, while crying again. She’s my favorite princess, I love her so much, I love her backstory. Thank you for talking about her. She’s my favorite Mario princess. 💫 🌟 ⭐️
I missed the part where it said that Rosalina had a brother o: that’d be cool if they revealed Luigi’s other child / Rosalina’s brother too in an upcoming game
rosalina has alawys been one of my favorite characters in the series, the way shes so relaxed but determined she has this strong presence which I feel like her backstory explains why shes so confident in a way, she lost her mother when she was a child and desperately tried to find her while the lumas were caring for her, the line that states her mother sleeping was a lot more powerful then outright stating she was dead especially since this is essentially a childs way of coping with loss and even as an adult I cry at those words, but she realized that she had a new family with her and she would do anything to care for her lumas and protect them, which is why when we see her in the present she is a stronger more confident person (even if bowser did steal the comet observatorys stars but to be absolutely fair bowser is a very powerful being) I love the way that this game tackled the idea of death its such a subtle simple story but it works so efficiently regardless if your a child or adult, its the kind of storytelling that I wish nintendo would do more because its honestly 10/10 writing, the one time mario does an actual semblance of a proper backstory its one of the best and as you say its completely optional which is why I feel like nintendo should do more stories like this that are more optional then mandatory, because they can make you come to appreciate some characters more, like you dont have to give backstories to peach, daisy, luigi, mario, wario or bowser etc but diffrent characters that feature in their own games even still were very lucky we got this
The storybook from this game meant more to me than any tragic story in a video game ever would, my mother passed when I was a baby and growing up as a child I had to venture through life with the confusion of why I had no mother but the children around me did, for a couple years into my childhood I couldn't understand or really process the grief of not having her around until my dad got me the first super mario galaxy, with my dad working in the day my grandmother had to watch over me but there were times she couldn't and I was alone so at the time with no other children to play with in my neighborhood I spent a lot of time on the game, I couldn't explain why at the time but I loved the music and the theme of it being in space, it wasn't until I made it to the storybook portion that I realized why, the almost dreamy and lullaby tones of the storybook segments were beautiful to me and I remember quickly making through each galaxy as fast as I could so that I could unlock the next chapter, When I finally got to the heartbreaking chapter of rosalina revealing that her mother had been dead all along and insinuating that part of the reason why she went on the journey in space with luma was to try and find her I remember bawling my eyes out as a kid, Something about reading that finally made something click in my mind and allowed me to finally start processing my grief because as a child I related to her so much. I too looked to the stars for my own mother, I too dreamt of looking for her. I looked so much like her that I would even look for her in the mirror. I understood the need of finding her and missing her but it was only when her child/storybook self expressed it out in the open that I finally understood that no matter how hard I looked for her I wouldn't find her anywhere else but within me. Realizing this also made me understand why I loved the melancholic and lonely feeling that the game gives you as you play. Its a reflection of how I felt as a child, I was alone at school as I couldn't make a friend stick, I was alone at home because my father had to work and sometimes I wouldn't even have my grandma and I was alone within myself and my thoughts, The music and the theme of adventuring through the vast expanse of space on a search for someone was exactly how I felt going through the adventure of life. It made me feel understood. Till this day super mario galaxy is my favorite nintendo game that has ever been produced I cannot thank the creators enough for making it.
She's still my fave ❤️ it hurts me that they don't do more with her, but I guess Mario has never really been a "flesh out your characters" kind of franchise
in french, rosalina is named "harmonie" (harmony in english), which refers mainly to her beauty and somewhat implies that she is some kind of cosmos' balance
After playing Mario Galaxy 1, Rosalina became my favorite character. A lot of that had to do with Koizumi's storytelling. I love Miyamoto, but he just loves to stay in the same lane and rarely does something new and fresh with the narrative. How I understood Rosalina is that since she basically can control space, time and matter. She's obviously the most powerful Mario character. I'd figured she's the daughter of Mario and Peach from either the future, a different time-line or parallel universe. She can take out Bowser and every baddie with a flick of the wrist but that's not her role. Her job is restore and maintain the balance of the cosmos and as well as being the mother of the cosmos. Why? She needs to help continue the cycle of life for the universe to grow. In a way she's almost a Deity. I also think she's there to guide the Mario and gang to help them gain their fullest potential and power. Thus, they can learn how to fight for themselves against greater threats. Similar to how a mother wants to guide their child to grow as a person. A good mother will not solve every issue their kids have, but help them solve their issues on their own. On a side note, I really loved the Super Smash Bros. Rosalina trailer because she lets Luma play with Kirby. To me that was the most heartwarming scene because Her and Kirby are some of the most powerful Nintendo Characters but they're so pure at heart. I would love a Mario/Rosalina and Kirby Crossover where they team up against a universe ending threat. Kirby has a very similar role to her and Rosalina and both would make a great team. Hopefully Nintendo will allow Rosalina to have a bigger role in the future or make an important appearance in a future Mario film. Great video!
I've never really stopped to appreciate the fact that in a sea of mario games with "good job, you saved the princess" as a veneer of a narrative ending, Super Mario Galaxy actually made me cry. I was only 10-ish, but still. This game means a lot to me.
This girl went from being Orphaned, marooned on a space comment as child, then rebuilding a space ship, then building her own CASTLE- Adopting generations of baby Lumas, then sacrificing herself to protect her children single handedly with friends… Not even the Disney Princess’s have this much backstory from a game DANG
@@christophermichaelclarence6003 Maybe but have you looked at Pauline? She's smoking hot and she's bustier that Rosalina, again that being said, I like them both equally and I can't put one above the other
I mean, Pauline is cool, but... What exactly does she have over Rosalina? Rosalina has pretty much everything I could ask for from a Mario princess. Busty? Who cares about that when you can _repair an alien spaceship before hitting 20‽_
These conspiracies are VERY deep and dark. I watched SpongeBob SquarePants when I was little and I never thought too much about stuff like this. We adults definitely think and remember things differently than we did as children.
9:31 Rosalinda is a real italian name Like my grandma, her name is Rosalinda. Also that’s a combination of two names Rosa (that means Rose) and Linda(that means “perfectly clear” or “Exemplarus clarity”. I gotta say that this is a literal translation, so Linda could just mean “pure”)
I do think that the daughter of peach thing is actually pretty interesting in terms of a setup for a story, though it is obviously not what I think Nintendo intends until I guess they say they do. But maybe her brother survived and he is the subcon commander from Bandai Satellaview Super Mario USA
2 Months late but this is the first video i've seen from your channel, definitely deserves an subscribe! Rosalina is my favorite Mario character, I first found out about her in Super Mario Party on the Nintendo Switch, and I loved her design (still do!) and I plan to buy an amiibo of her soon. I've always loved space, so its quite coincidental my favorite Mario princess is the princess of space.
Yeah, f the people that say she's overrated because of her story, while they dck-praise Daisy and Waluigi who have little to no backstory and introduced on the random.
I am so glad you pointed out there's no evidence about Rosalina being Peach/Luigi's daughter, I *hate* the idea and my brothers constantly bring it up as fact 🙄
I wouldn’t mind Yoshiaki Koizumi to become the director and producer for every future Mario games once Shigeru Miyamoto isn’t able to make more games anymore, he would be a great successor to Miyamoto in my opinion..
he would be awesome if he were to direct the next Nintendo movies. that was originally his dream. he should be the president for the Nintendo movie department. then Miyamoto can focus on games.
9:57 They never say they scrapped it, they just say "Oh we contemplated that idea....". I mean it's still very much implied Peach and Rosalina are related in the games, Rosa has the same exact face model as Peach and Rosa's also mom looks exactly like Peach, it's just never said "Oh yea they're related by blood". I also believe in the theory Rosa's brother is Peach's great-great-great.... grandfather and she's her great-great-great.... aunt.
Ok so my information might be a bit off, since I haven’t played Super Mario Bros on the WiiU in years. I’m pretty sure, though, that my cousin won a state competition on the WiiU and got a large eSports scholarship to a local college for it. His main? Rosalina. Last I saw him play, which as I said before was years ago, he could slaughter. If he got a remote, he was winning. It’s super cool and also goes to show that Rosalina and the Lumas really do kick butt.
Honestly I love they added the backstory for Rosalina at the last second cause if they didn’t: I don’t think I would of liked Rosalina as much if she didn’t have a backstory. (Keep in mind she’s not my personal favorite princess in the Mario series as of now cause that crown goes to Daisy but Rosalina is definitely a close second) Plus, I feel like the backstory for her is both sad and wholesome at the same time. (Plus fits her so well)
Rosalina is unique. Her size, personality, and skill set make her stand out in a good way. I would love to see her in a basketball game. She would a cheat code with her size, floating ability, and shooting.
"I was so disappointed when the next cutscene happened." I get what you mean. Adventures are fun and all but sometimes I'm itching for a game where Mario just goes to enjoy an epic festival with food and fun, etc.
A rosalina mod for resident evil... well that would definitely obliterate the horror mod, put her on some tanuki ears since you are going that direction.
Growing up, I was always told that Rosalina was the oldest sister of Peach and Daisy. Thus making Peach the middle child and Daisy the youngest. I never actually knew they were unrelated until watching this video.
I know there’s more details in Mario + Rabbids that I didn’t get into but I haven’t finished playing it yet :P Thanks for watching!

Rose is also the name of the character from Doctor Who which uses the tardis to travel in time and space.
It would definitely be Amazing of they have her in the Sequel telling her story too Mario and the rest and too help defeat the next main Villan

Amazing backstory that was added last minute. The Storybook was a tragic and amazing addition to Galaxy
Definitely a great last minute addition.

Rosalina instantly became a favorite after my first playthrough of SMG.
Me too
I had huge crush on Rosalina when I was preteen when I first saw her in Galaxy. Many years has passed, she's still my Blue star 💙
@@christophermichaelclarence6003 me too I love her no matter what
I honestly can’t blame you. She has an amazing backstory even by Mario’s standards.
@@DrRoo91 Demi- Goddess? Wow.
I’m still wondering what guitarist Rosalina would have been like. Maybe playing on one of the rooftops in New Donk
She is not the most powerful, and she has been in distress in Mario Galaxy 2, where she was trapped in her own observatory by Bowser, and waited for Mario’s help like Peach does.
Plus, she looks identical to Peach, AKA unoriginal.

@@QT_Jeanne did I deny that they look similar, no what I said was Rosalina is a much more instrresting character then Peach
I think it’s so cool how similar Rosalina’s story is to The Little Prince. Maybe that’s why she has rose in her name, based on the sole flower that bloomed on a tiny planet, drifting through the cosmos.
I like the idea going around that Rosaliana is an Ancestor of Peach. Just makes more sense then her being a descended.
I like to assume she's like Peach's great great many greats aunt or something. Would make sense if her brother continued the royal family until Peach was born.
It also would't make sense for peach to be her mother if in the story she reads to the lumas it's revealed her mother died a long times ago
@@mollyjenkins1039 that can be true. Honestly, anything is still possible, now that Peach's canon origins from the movie was entering the Mushroom Kingdom via the multiverse pipes.
@@mollyjenkins1039 my assumption was that she had already experienced a universe recreation so peach was her mom but not the peach from this universe
Would be neat if she appeared at the end of the mario movie, like a post credit scene of sorts.

@TheMentok a yoshi end credit scene would also be a neat Easter egg for mario 64 since he appears at the end of that too.

The following evidence from the game could suggest the existence of this time loop:

It's touching how Rosalina became a regular

Wonder how the countdown maker in question feels after seeing Sparks of Hope
Pretty interesting theory
It's weird to think. But Rosalina is literally the goddess of the entire Mario reality SOMEHOW she's outside of space and time so it's not a paradox.

Probably sat there and cried for a good 10 minutes, as I couldn't bear to force myself to advance the ending scene.

From the storybook, it sounds like Rosalina is an ancestor of Peach-- like the sister of one of Peach's great, great, great, great grandfather or something. Definitely in the same royal family line, but from hundreds of years ago.

By the way, Will you consider doing videos like this for other video game franchises? (Like Kirby)
Definitely. Next video will 90% be a different franchise. Not Kirby but I plan to get there :)
Played it as a kid when it came out, and I’m 25 now & still replaying it 😂❤
RIP to Luma - literally tears.
I speak for everyone when I say she needs to stand up for herself for once as a pro-claimed "Protector of the cosmos".
This is a high-quality video!
Even then, Nintendo's true nature was VERY VERY present.
I used to flip through her storybook and just cry all day lol
Great story rundown man! I knew very little about this character and it was nice to learn about her, probably one of the saddest Mario character stories too
I played Super Mario Galaxy for the very first time on the Switch. I never got to play it as a kid on the Wii. When I read Roselina’s story for the first time in the library after getting 105 stars and I cried. I beat it twice, both as Mario & Luigi and read the story again, while crying again. She’s my favorite princess, I love her so much, I love her backstory. Thank you for talking about her. She’s my favorite Mario princess. 💫 🌟 ⭐️
I missed the part where it said that Rosalina had a brother o: that’d be cool if they revealed Luigi’s other child / Rosalina’s brother too in an upcoming game
rosalina has alawys been one of my favorite characters in the series, the way shes so relaxed but determined she has this strong presence which I feel like her backstory explains why shes so confident in a way, she lost her mother when she was a child and desperately tried to find her while the lumas were caring for her, the line that states her mother sleeping was a lot more powerful then outright stating she was dead especially since this is essentially a childs way of coping with loss and even as an adult I cry at those words, but she realized that she had a new family with her and she would do anything to care for her lumas and protect them, which is why when we see her in the present she is a stronger more confident person (even if bowser did steal the comet observatorys stars but to be absolutely fair bowser is a very powerful being)
I love the way that this game tackled the idea of death its such a subtle simple story but it works so efficiently regardless if your a child or adult, its the kind of storytelling that I wish nintendo would do more because its honestly 10/10 writing, the one time mario does an actual semblance of a proper backstory its one of the best and as you say its completely optional which is why I feel like nintendo should do more stories like this that are more optional then mandatory, because they can make you come to appreciate some characters more, like you dont have to give backstories to peach, daisy, luigi, mario, wario or bowser etc but diffrent characters that feature in their own games
even still were very lucky we got this
The storybook from this game meant more to me than any tragic story in a video game ever would, my mother passed when I was a baby and growing up as a child I had to venture through life with the confusion of why I had no mother but the children around me did, for a couple years into my childhood I couldn't understand or really process the grief of not having her around until my dad got me the first super mario galaxy, with my dad working in the day my grandmother had to watch over me but there were times she couldn't and I was alone so at the time with no other children to play with in my neighborhood I spent a lot of time on the game, I couldn't explain why at the time but I loved the music and the theme of it being in space, it wasn't until I made it to the storybook portion that I realized why, the almost dreamy and lullaby tones of the storybook segments were beautiful to me and I remember quickly making through each galaxy as fast as I could so that I could unlock the next chapter, When I finally got to the heartbreaking chapter of rosalina revealing that her mother had been dead all along and insinuating that part of the reason why she went on the journey in space with luma was to try and find her I remember bawling my eyes out as a kid, Something about reading that finally made something click in my mind and allowed me to finally start processing my grief because as a child I related to her so much.
Her overall concept and design also seems inspired by Starsha from Space Battleship Yamato
in french, rosalina is named "harmonie" (harmony in english), which refers mainly to her beauty and somewhat implies that she is some kind of cosmos' balance
I love the idea of Rosalina being Peach's ancestor!
As if she not peggy backing off of peach.
To me Rosalina is tied with Pauline as the most gorgeous of the Mario characters 💖💖💖
Rosalina is much more gorgeous and prettier. She seems more reserved compare the other princesses. Especially mysterious
@@christophermichaelclarence6003 Maybe but have you looked at Pauline? She's smoking hot and she's bustier that Rosalina, again that being said, I like them both equally and I can't put one above the other
@@bladewingmcowl5842 Pauline may be thick and bustier but she looks like she's about to cheat on you after a long relationship 😆
@@christophermichaelclarence6003 😂
I mean, Pauline is cool, but... What exactly does she have over Rosalina? Rosalina has pretty much everything I could ask for from a Mario princess.
Busty? Who cares about that when you can _repair an alien spaceship before hitting 20‽_
Loving this awesome format, and the radical editing.
These conspiracies are VERY deep and dark. I watched SpongeBob SquarePants when I was little and I never thought too much about stuff like this. We adults definitely think and remember things differently than we did as children.
A really nice video - good job TheMentok. Now it'd be nice to get a similar origin-story video for Pauline as well maybe - if possible. :D

Rosalinda is a real italian name
Like my grandma, her name is Rosalinda. Also that’s a combination of two names Rosa (that means Rose) and Linda(that means “perfectly clear” or “Exemplarus clarity”. I gotta say that this is a literal translation, so Linda could just mean “pure”)
Thanks for this! I figure they took it from the Spanish words but this sheds some light
she’s always been my favourite character and always will be
I wish there were more storys like this in mario games.
Hi TheMentok I love this and I hope you have a good day and you are awesome
I do think that the daughter of peach thing is actually pretty interesting in terms of a setup for a story, though it is obviously not what I think Nintendo intends until I guess they say they do. But maybe her brother survived and he is the subcon commander from Bandai Satellaview Super Mario USA
Nah she's not.
@@christophermichaelclarence6003 I know that's what I said. Maybe you could try reading what I wrote
I 100% mario galaxy and I had literally no clue there was a rosalina origin story in there... wild stuff!
Great video man! I've discovered you recently and I think that you channel is great!
Cheers from Spain!
Is it true that in Spain, Rosalina is known as Estela???
@@jellymcmichaels4240 Yes, it is. And Luma is called Destello (That in english would be Flash)
It's because of her story, that Rosalina is my favourite Mario character.
Yeah, f the people that say she's overrated because of her story, while they dck-praise Daisy and Waluigi who have little to no backstory and introduced on the random.
I don’t. Not only is she hot, she has more backstory than Peach and Daisy combined. How much do we know about Peach and Daisy’s backstory?
Anyone who played pass mario games know peach and daisy backstory.
Your voice is really soothing, and on top of that, your editing is hilarious.
You really deserve more subscribers!!
Saving this video for an off day, now to enjoy the backstory of one of my favorite characters 🙏🏽!

They never say they scrapped it, they just say "Oh we contemplated that idea....".
I mean it's still very much implied Peach and Rosalina are related in the games, Rosa has the same exact face model as Peach and Rosa's also mom looks exactly like Peach, it's just never said "Oh yea they're related by blood".
I also believe in the theory Rosa's brother is Peach's great-great-great.... grandfather and she's her great-great-great.... aunt.
She a copy and paste peach cause they were too lazy to give her a unique design.
This was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for the content my friend!
Honestly I love they added the backstory for Rosalina at the last second cause if they didn’t:
I don’t think I would of liked Rosalina as much if she didn’t have a backstory.
"I was so disappointed when the next cutscene happened."
I get what you mean. Adventures are fun and all but sometimes I'm itching for a game where Mario just goes to enjoy an epic festival with food and fun, etc.
A rosalina mod for resident evil... well that would definitely obliterate the horror mod, put her on some tanuki ears since you are going that direction.
rosalina has always been my fav, glad u made the video (:
Growing up, I was always told that Rosalina was the oldest sister of Peach and Daisy. Thus making Peach the middle child and Daisy the youngest. I never actually knew they were unrelated until watching this video.
"Is there anyone that actually dislikes Rosalina?"
* *Miyamoto wearing a fake mustache starts booing from the crowd* *
"Keep story out of Mario! Boo!"
"Hello, my name is Mr. Otomayim! And i'm from... Someplace far away!"
He would legit do this too
"No lore! All we need to know is she wears light teal and is pretty."
"hot elderly princess" CHILL 💀
