Edit: I'm shocked this video did so well while my voice sounded like Theodore from Alvin and the Chipmunks lmao. Thank you so much! There is a rumor that Peach and Daisy are cousins - this was an error made in Prima Games guides for a couple of the Mario Kart games so I didn’t bother mention this. I made a video about 🍑 though: ruclips.net/video/IIzZugixkT0/видео.html
I also think that there’s a rumour (or at least possibility) that despite just being called Luigi’s girlfriend, they might be married at Sarasaland with a son that looks like Baby Luigi (Luigi Jr.) with Rosalina, Peach and Toadette as the bridesmaids, Mario, Yoshi and maybe even Wario & Bowser as the many groomsmen
@@kieranstark7213 Incorrect, Baby luigi is just Luigi as a baby. In Partners in Time mario & luigi go back in time and team up with their past selves (which are referred to and look like baby mario and luigi)
Daisy needs her own game where she travels the world dragging a reluctant Luigi behind her. The villain is Waluigi, who is so distracted by his happiness at being a main villain that he forgets to be a villain sometimes. It could be Nintendo's take on Uncharted-style action platforming.
Would be cute to have them together in luigi's mansion. Pretty similar to wat u described, where daisy is there to protect luigi and for Luigi to have a chance to show daisy he can protect her too.
i wish we saw that as i remember the rumor that she was searching for the moons in sarasaland and would've instead of just a minigame would've loved luigi helping her/both help mario take on tatanga as a boss. :3
They sadly did that on purpose, Nintendo changed alot, they think "Fun" is a Negative thing now... Daisy will make the Mainline Games better, but they're too Corporate to realize that😑
@@ProfessorZoom600 Or the other way around: he goes to save her, but ends up in trouble himself, so she busts out to rescue his ass. I feel like that's more in character for them tbh
Bro, they had thousands of opportunities and they did not take a single one of them; Luigi's Mansion Series, Super Mario 3D World, Bowser's Fury, Super Mario Odyssey, and they almost missed her in Strikers Battle League.
@@diegobeltran3213 god can we stop bringing this stupid game that everyone forget in like 2 days. It's not even the first time that major characters miss out a roster. At least she is playable, Waluigi was not in mk7, DK was not in mario party top100, and how many game where Toad is just missing. The even forget about Luigi in the beggining of mario kart tour.
I'd love to see Luigi & Daisy have a game where they're the main focus. It's nice to see them together, especially since she actually likes him and is his personality opposite.
Exactly, hoped this would be the case with super luigi deluxe from super mario bros U deluxe, but instead it was the same story line but mario wasn't there.
We need a game where noseless Daisy travels the world with her pet bunny Tuffy Bunnytown (who wants to nuke the sun) stealing bottled corn from defenseless children.
Daisy is one of those characters where the fanbase is responsible for most of their popularity. Nintendo underutilized her several times, only putting her in spin off titles. Sarasaland is her kingdom (Empire, technically), yet we know very little about it. Perhaps, in time, Nintendo or some brave yet based soul will make a Sarasaland game. Also, Daisy is in Wonder LETS GOOOO-
Honestly, it's about time Daisy got her own game. She is one of the most charismatic characters in the Mario universe in my opinion. She deserves more attention.
I've been preaching for a Peach game for a while, but honestly, maybe they should just do both at once. Imagine a buddy cop sort of story, with Peach and Daisy.
@Lokear There already was a Peach game, Super Princess Peach for the Nintendo DS. They should do a sequel with Peach as player 1 and Daisy as the player 2 character. Heck, even add Pauline, Rosalina and maybe even Toadette as unlockable characters.
I'm surprised you didn't mention this when describing Sarasaland. It's a literal empire. It's made of four separate kingdoms. Daisy is next in line to become an empress.
I've always wanted to see Daisy in Luigi's Mansion tbh. Before 3 was announced I had this idea about making her a second playable character for co-op, to travel with Luigi and capture ghosts together. it would be cool! Also when the New Super Luigi U was first announced I was really hoping they'd replace Peach with Daisy for him, but it never happened :(( I wish she got more screen time
@@saloz9483 It's really not surprising tbh... your probably not aware the Fact that they don't want Daisy to be more Popular than Peach, I guess in their Logic it's okay for them to team up in Spin-Offs, bc Daisy won't steal Peach's Spotlight in the Main Stories, Pathetic😔
@@Officialchristophermorris oh so they don't want Daisy to be more popular than Peach, but Rosalina stealing her spotlight is perfectly fine? Weak, Nintendo, very weak

I'm surprised Daisy was _originally_ described as an *_"energetic tomboy."_* I thought that was a personality that the fan community gave her overtime.
My friends were teasing me once for liking Daisy over Peach and I used the tomboy argument. They were all like "she is???" So we looked it up and the word "tomboy" was in the first sentence or so of her Wiki page. I thought that was funny.
We definitely need more Daisy representation. She’s a core part of the group and her relationship with Luigi is really sweet and we saw she’s capable of a lot of stuff, especially considering she’s rarely if ever kidnapped by anyone anymore and she has proven well enough a lot of times that she’s capable of fighting back. I’d like to see her in more games as a mainstay, even if her role is minor :D
I think Sarasaland would make a great setting for a Luigi's Mansion game. Imagine the ancient spirit of a former but corrupt emperor awakening to reclaim Sarasaland, curses it in darkness and fog, and holds Daisy hostage, and now Luigi must vacuum up his ghastly croonies before finally facing him.
I'd honestly prefer her to be a team-up character with her personality rather than a hostage. Not that I mind saving the damsel, it just doesn't fit who she is as this point.
I think that Nintendo really misses out on opportunities to be creative with their properties. They’re phenomenal at coming up with new ideas, they crank em out left and right, but they usually don’t elaborate on what they make. They flesh them out for the purposes of a game or two, but so many elements of Nintendo games, in their vast array of series, show up once and are never seen again. When they DO repeat concepts, though, a lot of times they miss the point. They made like six NSMB games and didn’t really do anything terribly different in any of them except add new powerups. The amount of fanart that has been made depicting their characters and the worlds they inhabit going through new and creatively exciting things is limitless, but they never seem to want to capitalize on the ability they have to do it themselves. So yeah, I do think they should bring back Daisy. Make Sarasaland a location in SMO2, or make it the setting of a whole new game.
@@strawberrywaffles9633 Super Mario Odyssey isn't exactly a breath of air for the franchise considering the omission of Daisy and others. At its best, the game is merely an evolution of the sandbox formula established in 64 and Sunshine.
as for the popularity pole, the Japanese tend to prefer females that are more reserved and feminine so that could have influenced that outcome, but we all know that Daisy is best girl
There is a big disparity between Eastern and Western appeal that Nintendo largely disregards. They make games for the Japanese, and then sell them to the other regions.
@@jasonkeith2832 I'm not sure how Nintendo is involved here, they make the characters sure but that is to the end of their involvement in the poll and still Daisy is best girl
My head canon is that Sarasaland is a confederation of the 4 kingdoms in super Mario land with Daisy as its ruler, and that after being rescued from Tatanga, Daisy and the four kings worked together to strengthen Sarasaland's defenses so that no invasions like that would ever happen again
I just wished to see those 4 kings again and see any interaction Daisy have with them. My dream game is Super Mario Land remake but in 3D and a have a open-world (essentially the next 3D Mario game)
I…kinda suspect Mario just actually literally murdered them. Most of the enemies are even undead. So…Daisy hangs out in the Mushroom Kingdom because there’s nothing to go back to. Whoever wasn’t initially killed by Tatanga was murdered by Mario while still brainwashed
I always thought the same way, even by the standards of a guy like me who prefers hand-drawn animation over CGI (although I like early CGI and cartoonish CGI animation by Pixar and DreamWorks and their recent films (and this is coming from someone who loves (most of) Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar and DreamWorks), mostly for nostalgic entertainment purposes, but I digress.).
In Smash bros Ultimate is where she looks the best, especially in her red and black dress. But I also can see that they usually potrait her in games with little esthetic.
Yeah, Daisy is the apex of forgotten and underrated characters within an important series that is Mario. I think that the only thing we can do is pray so that one day Nintendo remembers she exists.
@@KamyAnai03 i dont think anyone hates that couple, its just that theres no evidence of relationship of them together in canon, so it kinda feels like forced fanon stuff that can be annoying, i personally think luigi is the type of guy who doesnt want a relationship, and that luigi is happy without one, which is cool too
While I can believe that Japanese preferences can be a factor in the poll results, I think that it's more likely that Daisy not being as liked as other characters might be due to the fact that she just isn't in front of people that often. Put her in other games than just sports and party titles. Make her a more prevalent character who is as essential as anyone else for 5-10 years and let's do the poll again. It's like asking someone if they like strawberries or blueberries more, but they have never eaten strawberries so they have to say "I don't really know, but I know I like blueberries."
Honestly a Mario animated series could really flesh out Daisy’s character. Like she’s part of the main cast alongside Mario,Luigi,Peach, and Toad. Honestly I just want a new Mario animated series period.
I assumed that Daisy was chosen over Peach for the 93 movie was because at that time- in the US she was only known as princess Toadstool- not Peach. So they thought it’d be easier to adapt Daisy instead of her
Yes! That was the real reason. Idk if it’s the Mandela effect or what, but people in the US forget that Princess Toadstool and King Koopa didn’t become Peach/Daisy, or Bowser until several years after Super Mario Bros. And “Toad” wasn’t originally his name either-he was just a nameless “toad”, subject of the Toadstool Kingdom.
@@deshaunx776 Bowser's English-language name in the games (or the instructions in SMB1's case) has always been Bowser. The cartoons (which also gave entirely different names to the Koopalings) called him King Koopa.
@@NovaSaber Right, I suspect what happened was that the people in charge of American licensing only read the references to a "Koopa King" in the manual's opening story and not the name "Bowser" in the cast of characters... which largely reversed what the game's localizers did, who likely mistook a term like "Koopa's army" for "the Koopa army."
I also suspect that they wanted a Mario that actually looked like Mario (So what you will Bob Hoskins was inspired casting), but also wanted a younger, more typical romantic couple. So they took a little more liberties with Luigi, and paired him with the Princess, but as to not ruffle too many fan feathers, used the "other" Princess.
According to an article I read on ShackNews, apparently Miyamoto rejected the idea of a Wa- counterpart for Peach because he thought she would be too much like Doronjo from Yatterman (A Tatsunoko anime series. You may recognize her amongst other characters from Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.), despite Takahashi asserting that the concept that had for WaluPeachie was nothing like Doronjo. Ultimately, they decided against trying to convince Miyamoto any further, and went with Daisy. But here's the interesting thing: In a way, Peach already has a Wa- counterpart in Captain Syrup of the Wario Land series. Sure, she is not at all Wario's girlfriend, she's his archnemesis...but she's already more of an evil counterpart to Peach as Wario is to Mario. Plus, much like Daisy, Syrup was another character from the Super Mario Land series, but unlike Daisy, she had a more prominent role in the series as the main antagonist of Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land and Wario Land 2. You'd think she would be a good fit, but I guess Camelot didn't think of her before they went with Daisy. Oh well.
Omg yes!! And Syrup already had a connection to Peach, since the plot of the first Wario Land is about Wario going after a giant gold statue of Peach that Syrup stole from the Mushroom Kingdom. I still hope someday they officially make Syrup Peach's own rival/Wario.
I would think that Pauline would actually be "WalluDaisy" since Mario left a trail of discarded women. Waluigi has no skin in the game and just wants to participate in the contests. Pauline became a Mayor. Both are outgoing. I see them being a weird ship, but somewhat appropriate.
@@SmokeTheHorsehog Foreman Spike is returning in the movie after 22 years of absence, and he was created by the same people who made Daisy, Wario and Syrup-- so never say never!
Coming after her reveal in a MAINLINE GAME😭😭😭😭 we won Daisy fans! Iconic princess but I do wonder why she would get involve. New lore for Daisy? Or will they retcon her?
I may be biased as I'm a huge Daisy fan, but I think she should be in more mainline games. Or at least pop her in as an important character in a mainline Mario game again. Her sass and whatnot could really add some humour to it methinks. I also need much more manga Daisy now.
She's basically the "redheaded stepchild" of the Nintendo ladies. (maybe literally if you consider orange/auburn as red hair.) Miyamoto has had some involvement in the concept and creation of Peach, Rosalina, and Pauline. But not Daisy, which could be why she isn't valued as much by Nintendo. Not to mention up until Smash Ultimate, most people only see her as an annoying "ghetto discount Peach." Nintendo's underuse and mistreatment of her is almost laughable if it wasn't so perplexing. Like for example: in the first Mario Strikers intro, she only appears to be instantly tripped by Peach. In Strikers Charged intro, we only see her back as she's then Banana Slamma'd by DK and blown away. And in Battle League's intro, she........oh wait. You see what I mean? If she never gets a mainline appearance, or star in her own game instead of remaining as a spin-off jobber, I won't lose sleep over it, as I think she serves her role with what little she's given. But still... you can't help but wonder if there's any chance her ignored potential will ever be fully utilized. Only time will tell.
the only one major thing she did get recently though which makes everything so confusing is they included her in super nintendo world acting like she's in the main group but then barely use her
Yeah, the topic around Daisy has always been a vicious circle in which she is pretty much unpopular because of the lack of her presence, and is this little popularity that leds Nintendo not want to include her in anything besides sports games. And that situation is unlikely to change unless Nintendo take a risk making something important with her.
I think daisy is underrated. It seems like a missed opportunity to give her a game in which we get to see her in action more. I think her personality seems perfect for a gal that likes to take matters into her own hand when stuff goes south in the kingdom.
While I would of course to love to see Daisy more, I think it's kind of fine to have her show up as rarely as she does. Mostly cause it re-enforces my headcanon that Daisy is a way better ruler than Peach, on account that we barely hear a peep of issues crop up from her side of the world. It kind of makes sense that she'd only show up to recreational events for sport and royal get-togethers if she's too busy being a girl boss in her regular life. Plus she also apparently rules roughly the equivalent of southern Asia, which I think would keep anyone busy.
Daisy is an unfortunate example of how some major Mario-verse characters are "More Equal" than others. In Daisy's case, one of the reasons why she is treated with "Less Equality" is because she is simply not needed in the mainline.
Even since Daisy first broke through in Mario Tennis, her potential has since gained the upper hand. As future releases keep piling on, her persona will never pelter out.
I love Daisy so much! She is my favorite princess ever. She has amazing personality that Deanna Mustard brought to life and I love her attitude in general. A Tomboy who isnt annoying to me and a Princess who pisses on being a damsel in distress after Super Mario Land.
Daisy and Waluigi definitely need to be seen more. It’s pretty crazy how under utilized those 2 and Wario are in mainline games. It would be nice to have a shakeup from time to time. At LEAST in the Mario & Luigi games
8:45 Funfact about the "Warupeachi" thing: The developer who championed the idea most (for some reason we don't know who it was exactly) later on worked on the second Paper Mario. And what entity is the game's final boss? It took him years, but he got his "evil Peach" eventually. Granted, the demonic Queen of Darkness Peach isn't ugly and Warupeachi likely would have been. 9:48 Wait, Daisy's Voice Actress is called Deanna Mustard? A person called _Mustard_ lends her voice to a character known for wearing predominantly _yellow_ clothes? Some "Nomen est Omen" is afoot here. 12:53 Why Peach disguises as the robot is explained. She wanted to send the robot along with Mario to ensure both his safety and that there won't be any "romantic involvements" between Mario and Daisy. The robot wasn't ready for such an advanced mission yet though so she disguised herself as a robot. I honestly think that's solely for Mario to have someone to talk to. There is something very similar in the The Legend of Zelda Manga in which Link got a talking bird companion. 13:09 I don't know where you can find traditionally translated versions of the Mangas, but gtv Japan has whole english retellings of several old Japan-only game-related Manga and Mario Land and sequel are among them. Daisy surprisingly even appears as a hostage of Wario in the SML2 Manga. Likely yet again as a Dialogue Option.
This is helpful because I was running into walls trying to pull some of the context from the manga. I know I’ll be checking it out again for my future Wario vid so this helps!
I wouldn't mind taking another trip to her dessert kingdom. Maybe with Luigi as the main playable character. It'd be nice to see him bein a hero outside of ghost busting.
Right. I can't get into Luigi's Mansion like I used to. I'm accustomed to Mario going to exotic places and platforming. Not cleaning a house of ghost and essentially playing a janitor with Luigi.
Daisy has always been my favourite, although mainly because of Mario Kart. I've barely played the mainline Mario games, but the second I saw her in Mario Kart Wii, I fell in love. She was just much cooler and I really liked how she seemed a bit more tomboy-ish than Peach. It was usually that I played as Daisy and my sister as Peach. I'm honestly a little sad they don't use her in mainline games that much, she's awesome
Regarding Daisy's presence in the '90s Super Mario Bros. movie, I get the impression a lot of younger (well, younger than me, at any rate) don't really understand that Peach simply wasn't known as Peach in English-speaking territories until well after the movie was released. She may have been namedropped in an obscure later SNES game (Yoshi's Safari, I think...?), but the first widely played Mario game to actually use the name "Peach" was Super Mario 64 (which I've always assumed was the reason the intro letter in that game is conspicuously signed "Princess Toadstool... Peach," as a way to ease American gamers into her Japanese name). Before that, she was universally referred to as either "Princess Toadstool" or simply "Princess" in all the games and spin-off media. Even if you were deeply invested in Mario lore, such as it was at the time, you didn't know who the heck "Peach" was unless you were reading Japanese and importing games from Asia. Which, of course, meant that the only princess character from the Mario franchise who actually had a proper name at the time the movie came out was Daisy. I very much doubt the screenwriters for the Mario movie were making a conscious decision to select Daisy instead of Peach (I mean, neither of them were anything more than interchangeable damsels in distress at that point based on the games and the unavailable-in-the-west manga): they just wanted the character to have a name and not just a title, and "Daisy" was the only choice that American gamers might have plausibly recognized. As a side note, I find it interesting that around the same time Nintendo of America standardized Princess Toadstool's name to the Japanese "Peach," they also pretty decisively switched from using "King Koopa" to "Bowser." It's a bit of a different situation, since "Bowser" had already been used in the Western localization (it had been invented there, even, in the manual for the original Super Mario Bros.), but it was far more common to hear "King Koopa" in things like the cartoons and the movie before that. And "Koopa" is closer to the name he's always had in Japanese. So they made it so that Peach had the same name in Japan and the US, while at the same time they made Bowser/Koopa have different names in the two regions. Go figure.
I remember when I first watched the movie as a kid, at that point my familiarity with the Mario series only extended to Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Mario Paint, etc... So when I saw the princess character being called "Daisy", I just thought "Oh, so her last name is Toadstool and her first name is Daisy." So I was, uh, a LITTLE bit confused later on, when "Princess Toadstool" became "Princess Peach" and there was ANOTHER, ENTIRELY DIFFERENT character named Daisy.
Same here in Germany. I never heard of Peach before the N64. Besides the games, I was influenced by the cartoon and the movie (and the Club Nintendo magazine), I also considered Daisy just to be another name for Princess Toadstool. Due to my break from Nintendo related stuff around 2000, it was rather late, when I got suprised about the existence of Daisy on her own, when I watched videos about the later Mario Kart games ^^
@@thurianwandererI have never believed that Daisy was another name for Princess Toadstool. Because Daisy looked almost identical to Peach in her first appearance, the journalists and localizers didn't know that Daisy was a different character. Daisy was censored for major appearances during the 1990s by Nintendo because many people weren't sure if she was a different character or was simply just another Princess Peach. In other words, for the 1990s, Daisy suffered an identity crisis because many people got deceived by Daisy looking too similar to Peach in her earlier video game appearances. People back in the day must have been colorblind to think that Daisy was a nickname of Princess Peach instead of a new character.
@@GardevoirBoy Considering, that I played Super Mario Land on the old Gameboy, yes, of course, there were no colors XD The ever repeating formula suggested, one Mario, one Princess. I simply didn't care for other dresses, there were just too few possibilities to compare, let alone rare Japanese exclusive sources. I was hoping, I made it clear enough, that my referrence points were few. I simply followed the common sense, and during the years 1991-1996, besides the silly Toadstool, the only name that was present for many of the average Nintendo players, was Daisy, it was natural, to take this as the actual name for Toadstool. Well, until 1997 (in my case), when I got the N64, Toadstool disappeared, instead we got Peach, yet, another weird nickname for a woman, whose personal name remains unknown. :-D
A few things: 1) We ABSOLUTELY need Daisy in main line games. 2) Luigi pissing himself is quality 😂 3) Tan/light brown Daisy just does something to me. 4) That manga is probably concluded in a doujinshi. Excellent work on your content btw bro, I'm very proud of what you've done 🙂
Daisy is legit my fav Mario character and has always been since I first saw her. She doesn’t get the credit she deserves and I need her to be in a main game.
Daisy is an empress with a relationship to a multimillionaire gigachad ghostbuster who lives in a mega mansion. She’s too busy to be dealing with Mario’s shit.
Daisy should play a larger role in the series and should be up there on par with Peach and Rosalina. Though I do think her character model could use a little bit of an update to help her differentiate herself from Peach and Rosalina more.
It's sad that we don't see her more often, I always loved her more than Peach as a kid, although Super Mario Galaxy made me fall for Rosalina 😭 I really hope the Mario movie gets a sequel so Daisy is introduced as a character!
I have a ranking of Mario characters based on how cool/charming I think they are and I have Daisy and Rosalina in the exact same spot on the top of the list. I could not deside from one or another.
I love Daisy so much she’s not just another basic blonde boring damsel in distress but she’s fun and energetic and in my opinion has the best personality in the whole Mario series that’s why she’s my fave and I hope we get to see her in more main line games
Daisy is my absolute favorite Mario character of all time. And now that she’s playable in Mario Bros Wonder, I’m SO excited about what other exciting things they have in store for her
I’ve always loved Daisy. A soon as she was a playable character in the spin-off games, like Mario Party or Mario Kart, she became my main. She such an underutilized character with so much potential! Nintendo either needs to take us back to Sarasaland or they need to let Daisy play a role in a mainline game. She could get captured after trying to free Peach on her own and is the one to send for help by calling Luigi!
6:59 Aw man is that some Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom I see? Now that's a blast from the past. I loved those so much I learned how to save flash files from Internet Explorer's cache so I could put them on my jump drive to watch them whenever. I don't have them anymore but I wonder if internet archive has them. Worth a watch if anyone reading this hasn't seen them
Totally agree, but the sad part is that they're too scared to make her shine, on to the point that she'll shine over Peach😔But she does need to Shine whether they like or not
The only Mario games I've really played are "party" titles; Mario Kart, Mario Party, etc. I always forget that Daisy isn't featured much in the main games. She's been my favourite since day one so that's super weird to me. I love her voice and I think she deserves so much more screen time.
@12:11 A very tedious solution I've found is converting individual pages to *.bmp or *.png or *.jpg formats, cutting out the Japanese texts and saving those extracted "texts" as individual *.jpg files (or other picture formats). Then using Google translate and feeding those extracted pics containing text and translating it from Japanese to English. The translated text in English can be saved (it will be a picture file), and put back into the main extracted pages, combining the pages back into *.pdf or *.cbr/cbz formats depending on what kind of programs you have at your disposal. You'd be surprised at how accurate Google translate has become even for texts in picture formats, even sometimes translating freeform handwriting to some extent. And even if the translations come back with grammatical errors, at least you know what's being written/said, and in the absence of an official translation, this is one possible way to make your own translation......
very well described... I too actually used the same method to translate some comics that were in French (which I do not understand) into English. And though it's tedious process as you have mentioned, in the absence of an official translation of a comic, this is one possible method. I think AI translation is there as well but I don't know how well it would work for comics with pictures and texts that are sometimes written horizontally or in handwriting, etc...
This video was surely rather prophetic. Because guess what happened when Super Mario Wonder was announced? Daisy was confirmed to appear as a playable character.
I think it's also worth noting that Daisy, since she was from a desert, was depicted with darker skin but was slowly whitewashed as the games went on but now she's slowly tanning up again. I think that's both funny and interesting. EDIT: It's true, she was depicted to be just as pale as peach in her first artwork. But I do think it is interesting that they made her skin tan in the N64 era of games and are tanning her back up again. This might just be a part of Daisy character where she's tan some of the times lol.
Not really. In her original key art and in that earlier mario golf, she was as pale as Peach. In some following games I'm pretty sure she was only ever as tan as Mario and Luigi (tan relative to Peach, but not actually dark). In recent years they've been pretty inconsistent with her colouring but I'm pretty sure she's still never been darker than the mario bros.
@@cheddershredder yeah, in early artwork she was very similar to peach, but once the N64 era started she was pretty tan. Then the Wii era came about then she was pale again. Now she's tanning up again and that's cool to see.
She wasn't whitewashed lmao, she was always depicted with light-ish skin but at times she looked like she spent some extra days in the sun. She was never more than "slightly tanned".
@@TheeDeeM You're ignoring the part where I mention how she was never darker and Mario and Luigi, who nobody has ever considered tan. Either way, she's always the best princess tho
I’ve loved Daisy since the first time i discovered her and the fact that she’s so popular despite being so under-utilised speaks VOLUMES on the power she possesses. I would love to see her and Luigi team up especially since they’re both flowing with personality and complete opposites but i can see why that would be threatening to Mario and Peach's legacy (which is ridiculous since they’re basically household names)
I think she should be in more content, and I am actually surprised she isn't considering the hyper active girl is a major trope in Japanese media. And while I know this is mainly an American trend, but it has been catching on in Japan, the more independent girl type has been exploding in popularity and Mario has one but doesn't use her that often. In fact that's probably why she has be surging in the spin off games. But I know why to, and its the same reason why Waluigi isn't. The guy who created Mario who heads up all the games has stated in the past that he doesn't want any characters which he didn't create in any of his games. As far as he is concerned she is a non-cannon character. That's probably also why elements from her game were scrapped for Odyssey. As far as whatever his name is (I know you say it, I am just lazy) its all non-cannon, which is odd how he has so much power and is so defensive. Even Akira Toriyama has incorporated elements of non-cannon DBZ stories into his cannon and he has far more creative control over than series than Mr. Mario (my new name for him) has over Mario. Nintendo can always overrule him at any point. They just don't. But my guess is, should he retire, or pass away, expect Daisy in a future installment.
From anesthetic view, I'm really surprised that going based on the sprite work of Daisy in Super Mario Land, why they didn't give her a circlet style tiara instead of a crown. We don't see her wearing the crown and Super Mario Land but we know she's royalty, so it just would have made more sense and it would have further differentiated her model from Princess Peach, because sometimes they just look too damn similar with a simple palette swap for the hair and clothes
@@TheMentok You should have taken it a step further each time so we would've been hearing things like "Super Mario Browsers," "Super Mario Bratwurst," and "Super Mario Bronzors" (the Pokemon).
If Nintendo wants to implement an anti-Peach they could utilize Captain Syrup. Peach is a kindhearted ruler while Captain Syrup is a ruthless pirate who uses her feminine wiles to rob men blind or her wit to outsmart Wario who is equally as greedy as her. I can definitely see Captain Syrup taking over Muda as its ruler dometime after the events of Wario Land Shake It!
When you get to the original Super Mario Bros. movie, I hope you'll watch the extended fan cut! It is so much fun and adds in a whole alot more to the original release in the best ways possible.
I say Daisy should get her own game either with Luigi as a main character or side character. Include some of her people from Sarasaland. But have little to do with the main line games. Maybe make it more of a political game with Daisy going to different places to personally handle business. Just an idea, as long as it's a cool game I'm here for it.
My guess as to why the movie process is Daisy, is because back in the early days of Mario, Peach was just called Princess Toadstool. She wasn't called Peach until Mario 64. Maybe the directors thought that Toadstool was too weird a name.
Daisy definitely needs more screen time and her own game or a game with just her and Luigi …I honestly prefer her over Peach anyway she literally gets kidnapped too much for my taste but yes Daisy gives me the energy I need out of a character
Can't really add to this, but man. Banger video, but it did help me realize my favorite Mario characters are in that position because they're actually developed to some extent, and in Daisy's case she's just relatable. A minor thing to note is how her skin tone seemed to vary earlier on (And I prefer her with dark skin, as many do) But yeah, she's been snubbed big time. Super Princess Peach was cool, but a game like that with Daisy would be a nice contrast. Also, the LINE thing didn't surprise at all. Japan is all about "not rocking the boat" after all, there's tomboy lovers sure, but it doesn't line up with expectations of women. And most importantly, cuteness almost always wins against everything else over there
I know I didn't end up mentioning her different skin tones, but a slightly tanned Egyptian based Princess Daisy being featured in a mainline Odyssey-like Mario title would be clutch. I'd be even cool if she got the Pauline treatment
This was the only Mario game I was aware of for years. My dad had only this game on this GameBoy, and we didn't get another console until the GameCube around 2004. It took me a long while to grudgingly accept that Mario's main love interest was not Daisy.
I'm surprised they never used her in one of the Luigi's Mansion games. I would've loved to see her pop up in one of those especially since they always seem to be a team in the spin off stuff.
I would love for Daisy to return in an third dimension adventure for Mario and the friends. As it is stated that Mario run is officially canon to the main time line so maybe Odyssey two maybe? Hopefully?
Oh I remembered the Mario land game (but this was when I was really young !) Daisy's my favorite character ! Thanks for this video it was really nice to learn more about her !
I knew that sarasa was a type of fabric, but after a little google I just realized it was specifically more often the Indian paisley patterns, which explains Daisy's flower motifs. All in all, this was a good vid. Succinct. I'd say you have a new subscriber.
8:27 How the hell did Nintendo and Camelot forget Captain Syrup! The main antagonist of Wario Land! She wouldve been perfect as Wario’s Partner far better than Waluigi
11:05 I find it funny how you casually triggered everyone’s PTSD of Mimi’s transformation and refused to elaborate further by continuing on with the video as if nothing happened.
The idea that she's not as popular in Japan as she is internationally explains a lot for me. Im probably just throwing shit at the wall here but I do also think that Daisy is just so incredibly different from Peach, Rosalina, and Pauline. They're elegant, Peach is pretty well known to be able to bake, Rosalina is the proud effective mom of all the lumas, Pauline was allowed to rock a suit in Odyssey but still has a classy air. What I'm saying is maybe, don't bite my head off please, there's an element of sexism in there. Tomboys are generally expected to "grow out of it" and while I doubt a lot of the current Japanese people my age agree with that, a lot of older dudes at Nintendo are generally the ones putting limits on what the teams doing the hard dev work can do. I do definitely agree with the preference for Miyamoto's characters being a HUGE factor, but Daisy being so different from the other three and not even breaking top ten popular in a Japanese poll speaks something to me that I can't quite shake.
Tbf, I think this top has to be taken with a grain of salt. The video itself said that it was probably restricted to a few member of their magazin, this wasn't a large spead popularity pool. Especially when their are a lot of inconsistency, like why she would be the one feature in super nintendo world in Japan instead of Rosalina or anyone else and even smash since the pick from ultimate was taken from the smash ballot. Even in Japan, Daisy has a lot more merch here, and she is know to be more popular here than the USA. Even Toadette who is popular in Japan is not this top. Well, while it's interesting, I wouldn't take it as a pure reason.
@@-K_J-also Daisy was in the top 20 nintendo characters in nintendo dream magazine in 2018. Not just mario characters, Nintendo characters in general. So those japanese top are also inconsistant.
In a cordance to the video game lore of the early 90's and the movie, there is an easy explanation for that. As mentioned in a previous video, it was pointed out that Peach's name in earlier NES games in the U. S. was Princess Toadstool. The Game Boy was basically monochromatic with a dot matrix overlap, thus no color. With the name of Daisy, it was simple to assume that with the name of Toadstool, and reining over the Mushroom Kingdom, that her name could really be Princess Daisy Toadstool. They even play this off with the Mario Bros. gimmick. Their names are explained off as Mario Mario, and Luigi Mario.
15:05, I would love to see a Princess Peach outfit like that one in a mainline Nintendo game, as well as similar outfits for Daisy, Rosalina, and Pauline.
Wow interesting. I quite like Daisy actually, she adds a nice dynamic to the Mario world. Also don't forget she was also in Mario Sports Mix! (Love that game)
Edit: I'm shocked this video did so well while my voice sounded like Theodore from Alvin and the Chipmunks lmao. Thank you so much!

I've been preaching for a Peach game for a while, but honestly, maybe they should just do both at once. Imagine a buddy cop sort of story, with Peach and Daisy.

Nintendo: "It's settled! Everyone,.... let's get working on Luigi's Mansion 4!!!!!
It would!
Which is exactly why Nintendo won't do it.
Now that would be a fantastic Luigi's Mansion game
I'd honestly prefer her to be a team-up character with her personality rather than a hostage. Not that I mind saving the damsel, it just doesn't fit who she is as this point.
That's not a mansion setting tho that would just be a whole new adventure starring Luigi, which is perfectly fine.
They are already creative tho

I just wished to see those 4 kings again and see any interaction Daisy have with them. My dream game is Super Mario Land remake but in 3D and a have a open-world (essentially the next 3D Mario game)

Actually peach gets with Luigi not Daisy
And now Daisy makes her grand return in Super Mario Bros. Wonder!
While I can believe that Japanese preferences can be a factor in the poll results, I think that it's more likely that Daisy not being as liked as other characters might be due to the fact that she just isn't in front of people that often.
Yep. I still call Peach "Princess Toadstool", lol.

Not to mention up until Smash Ultimate, most people only see her as an annoying "ghetto discount Peach."
Nintendo's underuse and mistreatment of her is almost laughable if it wasn't so perplexing.

She wanted to send the robot along with Mario to ensure both his safety and that there won't be any "romantic involvements" between Mario and Daisy.
Go figure.
I figured it was mostly because "Daisy" is a common given name, Peach/Toadstool is not
I remember when I first watched the movie as a kid, at that point my familiarity with the Mario series only extended to Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Mario Paint, etc... So when I saw the princess character being called "Daisy", I just thought "Oh, so her last name is Toadstool and her first name is Daisy."
So I was, uh, a LITTLE bit confused later on, when "Princess Toadstool" became "Princess Peach" and there was ANOTHER, ENTIRELY DIFFERENT character named Daisy.
@@GardevoirBoy Considering, that I played Super Mario Land on the old Gameboy, yes, of course, there were no colors XD
The ever repeating formula suggested, one Mario, one Princess. :-D
A few things:
1) We ABSOLUTELY need Daisy in main line games.
2) Luigi pissing himself is quality 😂
3) Tan/light brown Daisy just does something to me.
4) That manga is probably concluded in a doujinshi.
Excellent work on your content btw bro, I'm very proud of what you've done 🙂
Daisy is legit my fav Mario character and has always been since I first saw her. She doesn’t get the credit she deserves and I need her to be in a main game.
I "wonder" if she'll ever be put in a mainline Mario game.
I saw what you did there. Very clever.
Yes, I too WONDER that
Daisy is an empress with a relationship to a multimillionaire gigachad ghostbuster who lives in a mega mansion. She’s too busy to be dealing with Mario’s shit.
Daisy should play a larger role in the series and should be up there on par with Peach and Rosalina. Though I do think her character model could use a little bit of an update to help her differentiate herself from Peach and Rosalina more.
If they stop hating her we would
if they did update her look i feel she wouldn’t wear the dress
Daisy is underrated and athletic. She is hilarious and badass because of her tomboyish and somewhat edgy personality.
daisy is edgy? give me a break
Since Daisy is the ruler of Sarasa Land, and Sarasa Land is FOUR Kingdoms, does that mean Daisy is actually an Empress?
But she's not in charge, her dad is
@@mbii7667 yeah she did mention a dad but nintendo can just ignore her dad ever existed cause this series is very out there
@@DJFoxy-TheKitsune why should they ignore him?
@@mbii7667 i'm not saying they should, i say that nintendo if they want can jus ignore the guy, cause the mario series is very out there.
It's sad that we don't see her more often, I always loved her more than Peach as a kid, although Super Mario Galaxy made me fall for Rosalina 😭
I really hope the Mario movie gets a sequel so Daisy is introduced as a character!
Hell yeah!
That's also just peach
There's nothing wrong with being a "basic blonde damsel in distress." Don't be a feminist.
@@mbii7667 did you just tell me to not be a feminist bc of an opinion on a Mario character 😭
@@bellarose2986 yup and I hope you listen
Now that Daisy is one of the six playable power-up band at Universal's Super Nintendo World, she is primed for a major boost.
AND IM HERE FOR IT
Daisy is my absolute favorite Mario character of all time.
Worth a watch if anyone reading this hasn't seen them
I’d really love to see the kingdoms of Sarasaland with modern day (Nintendo) graphics to get a full 3D look as well as Daisy getting a chance to shine
Totally agree, but the sad part is that they're too scared to make her shine, on to the point that she'll shine over Peach😔But she does need to Shine whether they like or not
@@Officialchristophermorris
Agreed.
The only Mario games I've really played are "party" titles; Mario Kart, Mario Party, etc. I always forget that Daisy isn't featured much in the main games. She's been my favourite since day one so that's super weird to me. I love her voice and I think she deserves so much more screen time.
Rejoice, my friend. She’s going to be playable in the recently announced Super Mario Bros Wonders.
@@nintendolife25 that's so exciting!!!
@12:11
A very tedious solution I've found is converting individual pages to *.bmp or *.png or *.jpg formats, cutting out the Japanese texts and saving those extracted "texts" as individual *.jpg files (or other picture formats).
Wasn't that from her being in the sun like a tan or am i tripping
@@TheeDeeM You're ignoring the part where I mention how she was never darker and Mario and Luigi, who nobody has ever considered tan. Either way, she's always the best princess tho
I respect the commitment to the Super Mario Bros. Pronunciation throughout the video 😂🫡
It was petty but necessary 😂
Supah marrio brazaas
10:05 the most personality Nintendo has ever given daisy
From anesthetic view, I'm really surprised that going based on the sprite work of Daisy in Super Mario Land, why they didn't give her a circlet style tiara instead of a crown. We don't see her wearing the crown and Super Mario Land but we know she's royalty, so it just would have made more sense and it would have further differentiated her model from Princess Peach, because sometimes they just look too damn similar with a simple palette swap for the hair and clothes
Gotta say, you committed to the "proper pronunciation" bit, and I respect you for it.
Twas funny, left a like just for that
I took a risk. Honestly thought that would end up pissing people off 😂
@@TheMentok Absolutely did not piss me off. The first time was so savage and after that, it just felt like a funny inside joke! 😂
@@TheMentok You should have taken it a step further each time so we would've been hearing things like "Super Mario Browsers," "Super Mario Bratwurst," and "Super Mario Bronzors" (the Pokemon).
I always wanted to see Daisy over Roselina.
Exactly what I was thinking! Syrup would be a welcome main antagonist for the Upcoming Princess Peach game coming soon.
Daisy is by far one of my favorite characters hope to see more of her in the future
That should've happen along time ago tho
2:37 I’m not sure if this was intentional or not, but the block breaking timed EXACTLY with the music is wonderful
I wonder if they're afraid of Daisy overshadowing Peach since Mario and Peach have been the main spokesmans for Nintendo/Mario universe.
You're actually right Sadly, if they don't want her to outshine Peach, than make Peach actually Interesting... Peach is Boring😩
crazy how 8 months later she's going to be in mario wonder
My guess as to why the movie process is Daisy, is because back in the early days of Mario, Peach was just called Princess Toadstool. She wasn't called Peach until Mario 64. Maybe the directors thought that Toadstool was too weird a name.
I like everyone has agreed that daisy and Luigi having feelings for each is just canon at this point.
I like to imagine Daisy Circuit is actually set in Sarassaland
Daisy definitely needs more screen time and her own game or a game with just her and Luigi …I honestly prefer her over Peach anyway she literally gets kidnapped too much for my taste but yes Daisy gives me the energy I need out of a character
Can't really add to this, but man. Banger video, but it did help me realize my favorite Mario characters
are in that position because they're actually developed to some extent, and in Daisy's case she's just relatable.
A minor thing to note is how her skin tone seemed to vary earlier on (And I prefer her with dark skin, as many do)
But yeah, she's been snubbed big time. Super Princess Peach was cool, but a game like that
with Daisy would be a nice contrast. Also, the LINE thing didn't surprise at all. Japan is all about
"not rocking the boat" after all, there's tomboy lovers sure, but it doesn't line up with expectations of women.
@@TheMentok Oh my God yes!
And hey, it's fine. Gotta pick and choose, or go all out

7:30 So what you're telling me is... Luigi has more Rizz than Mario? Now that's a twist of the century!
“Who is Princess Daisy-“
Oh easy! My beloved 😍
This was the only Mario game I was aware of for years. My dad had only this game on this GameBoy, and we didn't get another console until the GameCube around 2004. It took me a long while to grudgingly accept that Mario's main love interest was not Daisy.
Also, that music you played near the beginning...
I'm surprised they never used her in one of the Luigi's Mansion games. I would've loved to see her pop up in one of those especially since they always seem to be a team in the spin off stuff.
I don't think she should be a MAIN main character, but her having a bit more attention in the mainline series would be cool.
As long she's not a Damsel in Distress either
I would love for Daisy to return in an third dimension adventure for Mario and the friends. As it is stated that Mario run is officially canon to the main time line so maybe Odyssey two maybe? Hopefully?
Oh I remembered the Mario land game (but this was when I was really young !) Daisy's my favorite character ! Thanks for this video it was really nice to learn more about her !
0:05 when a video gets you vibing after the first 5 seconds you know its gonna be good.
I knew that sarasa was a type of fabric, but after a little google I just realized it was specifically more often the Indian paisley patterns, which explains Daisy's flower motifs.
All in all, this was a good vid. Succinct. I'd say you have a new subscriber.
11:47 Dat Rosalina artwork tho
8:27 How the hell did Nintendo and Camelot forget Captain Syrup! The main antagonist of Wario Land! She wouldve been perfect as Wario’s Partner far better than Waluigi
11:05 I find it funny how you casually triggered everyone’s PTSD of Mimi’s transformation and refused to elaborate further by continuing on with the video as if nothing happened.

Came back to this video because we won Daisy fans.
14:26 Of all the things I expected from early Mario content, I did not expect near-nudes of Daisy. Also, why is she like 10 feet tall?
It’s sad that Daisy doesn’t gets more attention from Nintendo because of Peach.
Don't blame Peach it's Nintendos fault.
@@murderman7265 LOL if they desperately don't any Girl to outshine Peach, at least make Peach interesting😂🤦♂️
Good theory
@@mirai4738 I see! I didn't know she got more merch there. Hell, I didn't know she got any at all.
@@-K_J-also Daisy was in the top 20 nintendo characters in nintendo dream magazine in 2018. Not just mario characters, Nintendo characters in general.
So those japanese top are also inconsistant.
I feel like any discrimination against Daisy for her personality would have also been true for Samus though, and that doesn't seem to be the case
I figured it was as simple as grabbing the most "real" name to make the movie more "grounded" in that respect.
