And then the ninja kinda shrugs b/c he knew it made absolutely no fkn sense lmao. Great AVGN moment.
I think it actually makes a bit of sense. If you look at the words, it's basically saying "If you set a destination by what's around it, you miss the point of the original destination."
I think it's meant to harken back to something Bruce Lee said. "It is like a finger pointing a way to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss out on all that heavenly glory."
@George Kafiridis, so am I. Amazing how that works, no? I think the ninja's line was referencing the old Bruce Lee line, not the older proverb. You disagree. Neither of us has any evidence to support our opinions. Perhaps if James does an AMA someone can ask him.
@George Kafiridis, if it was as "obvious" as you say it is, than I wouldn't be disagreeing with you. Now, quit trying to save face on an old internet argument, accept that until there's official word from the content creator, my answer is just as valid as yours.
"Are you controlling the game, or is the game controlling you?" As someone who grew up playing NES, I can definitely say that the games control you. They are designed to be frustrating.
I feel your frustration James, it took me nearly twenty years and I was able to beat Ninja Gaiden myself. The game was relentless back then and it is relentless now.
Me and my brothers loved this game so much we made it a passion to make Ryu the perfect hero because we wanted him to succeed through his revenge. We do speed runs, the key is maintaining the Cyclone spin skill which can 1 shot or 2 shot all bosses including the hardest one.
Scrolled through the comments to see if anyone brought this up, or if I wasn't remembering the game correctly. This is definitely how I beat the game when I was a kid. I just remember jumping into the bosses with a spinning blade attack and taking them out pretty easily.
Dark souls is challenging yes, but 80s nes games are brutal. Especially ninja gaiden. And honestly, even today there's games harder than dark souls. Devil may cry 5 is way harder if you're trying to s rank everything
Thats only because Dark souls acully gives you a chance, Ninja gaiden is chalk full of super unfair BS like he already showed you, enemy's spawning faster then u can swing and if u go back half a centimeter they respawn.and thats only two of the issues!
When I was a kid I made it to the final boss once and proceeded to get steam rolled. I don’t think I’ve touched it since. Such an unfair amount of difficulty.
I remember years ago I made it my life goal to beat all three of these games. I have to admit Ninja Gaiden 3 was the hardest. You loose way too much life from being hit by the bad guys in that one. Then you have to beat it with only 5 continues. Amazing games! Then I made it my life goal to beat Battletoads. With that goal I failed in life. I could only get to level 8 In Battlefrogs. That game is insane.
InuYugiHakusho Yeah, it's fairly easy now, but still.. those later levels are not that forgiving. It only gets harder from there. 'Volkmire's Inferno' (Level 7) is like the 2nd turbo tunnel. The Ice Cavern is harder in my opinion in the original version of the game and is slightly easier in the Japanese. If you've played the Japanese version of Battletoads, you will notice just how many improvements there are, like difficulty-wise. The 'Clinger Winger' level (11) is the one that you can't beat if you're emulating the game, which means that even if I want to beat it, I gotta be playing on a real NES and on an old CRT TV. Input lag has to be decreased to it's minimal.
Street Fighter and Ninja Gaiden both have the characters named Ryu and Ken, but they have different meanings in Japanese. In Street Fighter, Ryu means Prosperity or Abundant (隆) and Ken means Fist (拳). In Ninja Gaiden, Ryu means Dragon (龍) and Ken means Sword (剣).
+Ioganstone I've watched every episode and even remember the Bible adventures game. Mainly how Noah was able to pick up fucking oxen and horses. But what does that have to do with dark souls?

But Kevin Finn played the Ninja... and I don´t know for sure but doesn´t James record all the gameplay footage? I mean, sure, Mike kicks 8-bit ass but I don´t know how big his involvement in this episode was...
Ninja Gaiden actually holds up pretty well. Obviously the graphics are 8-bit NES, but the game is actually amazing. Like Contra. Oh, and "a ninja must look beyond the borders of the screen", amazing. That's high quality content there.

Before you fuck.... One must use proper protection?! (Ninja Gaiden AVGN Outtake)
I also watched the video
Street Fighter and Ninja Gaiden both have the characters named Ryu and Ken, but they have different meanings in Japanese.
In Street Fighter, Ryu means Prosperity or Abundant (隆) and Ken means Fist (拳).
In Ninja Gaiden, Ryu means Dragon (龍) and Ken means Sword (剣).
but his name is just ケン?
The 12 year olds in the 90s were hardcore nam vets.
Same goes for now days.
At least you know what you're getting with Dark Souls. But even Biblegames beat the shit out of that.
+Ioganstone ?
Douglas Mitchell The nintendo game Bible Games was made for children. Not a true AVGN fan I guess.
+Ioganstone I've watched every episode and even remember the Bible adventures game. Mainly how Noah was able to pick up fucking oxen and horses. But what does that have to do with dark souls?
2018, and this is still my favorite AVGN episode.
I think it'll keep that way forever maybe...
2019 and I'm still seeing it, AVGN is a legend for me. Come to Mexico sometime James! You have a lot of fans here. I take you to some real tacos and barbacoa if you come 🔝🎮
When playing Ninja Gaiden, one may require a Ninja Gaidence councillor.
Some of the most evocative video game music ever in this game. Super eerie at times.
Kevin Finn is the best
When literally anyone in my class said that he's beaten ANY game, we'd just come to him and listen how the hell did he do it. Those were the days...
I never could beat Battletoads. No matter how many times my friends and I got to the last stage, we could never win.
Mike Matei is the master of these games dude like seriously watching him slice his way through everything in that one scene is fuckin awesome.
But Kevin Finn played the Ninja... and I don´t know for sure but doesn´t James record all the gameplay footage?
I mean, sure, Mike kicks 8-bit ass but I don´t know how big his involvement in this episode was...
Considering Mike pinned this comment... pretty sure it was him.
+Jules Bemporad how many times did you say Shit and Fuck.
Mike is such a narcissistic twat for pinning this comment, considering he wasn't even in this video, it was James and Kevin Finn!
a No Death of the North American Ninja Gaiden III would be the requirement.
14:04 at this point the Nerd has said the most bone chilling onslaught of words I've heard yet. Still love that part 😂
I remember playing it as a kid. This game taught me the true meaning of "rage quitting"!
Now of days dark souls can carry that touch no pun intended 😄
that freekin awesome ninja gaiden soundtrack used at 11:56
Unbreakable Determination
yeah unbreakable determination is pretty much the best old school song in my opinion
inb4 Undertale comments.
αλώβητος κανένας t
*Watching this in 2017. Still haven’t beaten Ninja Gaiden.*
I beat part 2 in late 1990 while skipping school, true story.
Was it that easy to skip school back than?
Ninja Gaiden 3 (well, the Japanese version) is pretty easy. Not too bad.
Haven’t beaten the Mario game either
yes its kinda strange
The slap after "very very slow" still sends me all these years later
Ninja Gaiden actually holds up pretty well. Obviously the graphics are 8-bit NES, but the game is actually amazing. Like Contra.
Oh, and "a ninja must look beyond the borders of the screen", amazing. That's high quality content there.
He never said it was a terrible game just that it was a really hard .one very unique episode
"How do I beat Ninja Gaiden?"
"Get gud"
Git Gud, the saying for people who can't accept that the game they love is shit.
by that logic the entire soulsborne franchise is shit....GIT GUT Son.
Much Respect to Kevin Finn. What a Great Character Performance.
